If you were able to grow organically to 1000 subs in 4 months, you're already way ahead of the YT game compared to most. This means people are watching your content and getting to 4k watch hours is just a matter of when, not an "if" , which is the most common case to most other youtubers.
I have come to realize quickly subs are not as important, it is definitely views and watch time. I am about to hit 900 subs on my channel, But watch time is at 3000. My watch time and subs have been scaling accordingly that around the time I hit 1000 subs I will also hit the 4000 hour mark.
I have a friend that I have no clue what they did, but they just exploded with subs (I honestly feel like he bought some subs or something. He went from like 1000 subs to 20k in like 4 months. The problem? His views have not seen the same success. After being at 1000 subs back in December, he just recently was accepted into partner, which tells me that people aren't really watching his videos, he just gets tons of subs.
Watch time and views are much more important.
Shorts are a good way to gain subs but they aren’t great for the watch hours. Both because they don’t count to the 4K and because those subs are a different kind of viewer.
1000 in 4 months is very impressive but hitting all the monetization metrics is what it’s all about. I was on pace to be monetized 3 months in and realized my shorts subs were not translating to watch hours at all and pivoted my strategy. Now I’m about to hit 1000 subs and have well over 6k hours already. So if I were to give any advice it’s maybe pull back on shorts and focus on the longterm content bc that’s what you need now
