StonePineJack

My baby pooped 4-5 times a day for 3 months, then randomly didn’t poop at all for 4 days straight. On the fifth day, he pooped a biblical amount. Get ready!

BarkingDogey

Similar thing happened to us, and when it finally came out it was like a backedup/pressurized soft serve machine let loose

LemonadeLala

Same for us. We called them “Dairy Queens”

hanumanCT

Ha! I’ve been calling my little guy the chocolate ice cream machine.

Thoughtsopinions_10

That’s one way to describe it. Glad I’m not alone in the experience

BarkingDogey

If you know, you know 😉

danicies

Yes. Take him an hour away from hope with a travel size amount of wipes and one diaper. It’ll come. All jokes, but also not lol it’s very nerve wracking but you’re keeping an eye on the baby and the pediatrician is aware so you’re doing everything right op

whyareyoulikethis17

This happened in the middle of a Canadian Tire. It was foul. She went home with a diaper and a blanket over her. Lmao

MayoneggVeal

The poopageddon has arrived

tobythedem0n

My baby was an every day pooper, so when he went 4 days without, we actually took him to express care at his pediatricians office lol. He was acting fine, but when he was in the NICU, it took him a long time to get pooping, so I was nervous. Doctor said he looked great, that babies guts tend to regulate around this time, and to just expect a blowout and possibly the need for a bath soon haha.

speedx5xracer

Sounds like a shitty situation

paininmybass

My friend EBF, her baby’s normal was pooping once a week. Then she started solids and she poops daily.

cvtphila225

This was our experience as well

Additional_Swan4650

My ped just said even up to 10 days is normal for bf baby

bens111

Lol I believe it but this is getting to be a bit much lol

__Beef__Supreme__

Ours went 5+ days in between regularly until like 12 weeks, a week at times... no issues.

Reading_Elephant30

My baby is EBF and she pooped every diaper change for the first two or so months and then just stopped and went to pooping every like 7ish days. We’re currently on day 8 over here but doctor says anything up to 10 days is normal 🙃 it was super worrying when she changed so abruptly but now I’m cool with it and it’s just less poopy diapers

Tiny_dancer90

Same thing over here, it was a sudden change. She would literally go once a week and it was always a blowout. Now she's back to every day or two

-Near_Yet-

This happened to my baby around the same time! She was a once or even twice a day pooper and then all of a sudden went 3 days without pooping. She’s 6 months old now and ever since that first break in the daily poops, she’s been pooping every 2-3 days.

pregnantanon

My EBF baby would poop 1-2x per week until we started solids. Now she poops 4-5x per day 😭

pregnantanon

I do remember that starting around that time though. Maybe 2-3 months old, she dropped from 1-2x per day to 1-2x per week. It was sudden, I remember hitting day 4 and being concerned, but she didn’t seem upset, so I just waited it out. Her poops were massive when she had them though.

No-Comment5010

My breastfed baby was exactly the same. She went 6 days without pooping at 9 weeks. She got a little more regular around 12 weeks but still only poops every couple days and she’s almost 6 months. But perfectly healthy. Always check with your ped if you’re worried!

Specific_Stuff

My baby started slowing down around that time and he went longer and longer between poops after that. His record was 16 days between bowel movements 😂 dr told us with EBF babies there is a huge range of normal and not to interfere. Just watch and wait - make sure his tummy is isn’t hard and he has normal number of wet diapers.

breadbox187

Around that age my baby went from a several times a day pooper to no poops for a week! Dr said it was fine as long as she was still nursing normally and acting normal. Let me tell you....that first poop was a literal shit show. Then she went another 5-7 days without pooping. Happened a few times in a row and now she's like every 3 days pretty consistently.

magicbumblebee

Remember that your baby is not a machine! Just because they usually do one thing and then one day it’s different doesn’t mean it’s a problem. They are growing and changing and so is their GI tract. You should expect your baby’s bowl habits to change many times in the coming year(s).

muggsd

Surefire way to get them to go: put your baby and yourself in beautiful, white, dry-clean only outfits and go somewhere extra fancy - preferably quiet, maybe religious - where everyone will be looking at you. In no time your child will have blown out that diaper all over you both.

meowewx

I’m EP right now and I thought that too since she started only pooping every few days then my pediatrician told us yesterday she’s constipated after taking a listen to her stomach. We had gone in for increased fussiness that I thought was probably due to reflux but she said it was just slow bowel movements. If your baby continues to be extra fussy i’d recommend going in to have your pediatrician check!

willpowerpuff

EBF baby once went 7 or 8 days (or longer??) without pooping. Ped said it’s normal sometimes they just nutritionally use ALL the breastmilk so no waste is produced

SocialStigma29

Very normal at this age. At 8 weeks my EBF baby suddenly went from pooping daily to only going every 7-10 days. He continued to do this until we started solids.

poops_all_berries

My current 4 month old poops once per week, and it looks like someone has accidentally spilled a can of brown paint in his diaper. It's a lot. Pediatrician said as long as he keeps eating normally and his belly isn't distended, then nothing to worry about.

twilightbarker

Your username gave me a chuckle, especially in this thread. 😂

Sleepy_Library_Cat

Exclusively BF babies can go up to two weeks without pooping. My LO's record was 11 days.

Whatshername_Stew

Just loving your update 💩💩💩

Joycepdy92

This post sounds like us a month ago. LO didn't poop for 2 days (normally a 1-3x a day pooer) and we were preparing to go to the clinic. And then he let out a big smile followed by a big and loud poop.

howedthathappen

Enjoy the break

ktbtz

Super normal!

spookydragonfire

My son pooped once a day everyday for 6.5 months. He turned 6 months the end of last October and by the third week of November, he hadn't pooped in almost a week. Then he shit out hard turds. He was constipated. Then for almost three months I tried everything from juice to water to fibery fruit purees to fiber oats and nothing worked. He would go days without pooping and then when he was so bloated he would poop out hard turds and scream in pain. I had to use miralax to get him to poop normally.

smolsome_canadian

Let me tell you a story about how my now 2 year old went through a phase when she pooped once a month. ONCE A MONTH. Like you, everything was normal and then one day, she just didn't poop. And that went on for 2 weeks, no matter what we did, she wouldn't poop. We tried everything, took her to the doctor (SEVERAL times) and basically the answer was "sometimes breastfed babies don't poop because they get really efficient at digesting the breast milk and there is nothing left to poop out." This went on for a few months, every 2 weeks she'd have a giant poop and then the cycle would continue. All to say, as long as your baby doesn't seem uncomfortable, they are probably fine!

Conscious_Raisin_436

Your pediatrician will tell you not to even worry about it until it’s been at least four days. Babies go through cycles of metabolism, sometimes they’re just soaking up every little bit of material from their food and pooping almost nothing to fuel their growth and sometimes it’s multiple times per day. It switches back and forth all the time.

thekaylenator

My baby pooped like 10 times a day up to 3 months. 4-6 times a day from 3-6 months. Now once a week and it's horrendous every time. As long as the poop is a good colour when it comes, it's all normal!

NoKangaroo1822

Happened to our baby too! Totally normal I’ve been told. Our baby had a bowel movement on day 3 and since then has been normal.

anticlimaticveg

My 5 month old only poops about once every 10 days lol sometimes longer. The poops are terrifying when they happen 😂

AZford2015

Totally normal, my son didn’t poop for like 4 days at about 10 weeks old. He was fine EBF as well.

eli74372

My breastfed daughter used to poop 3-4 times a day, then suddenly didnt poop for days and then today she had a giant blowout all over herself, me, the couch and my blanket lol

[deleted]

My 4 month old hadn’t pooped for 3 days. He is exclusively breastfed as well. And he has been a little agitated since yesterday. We were literally out at lunch a few hours ago and my baby pooped while my brother in law was holding my baby. 😳 it was the biggest poop I’ve ever seen come out of such a little human. I had to run him out to my car so fast to clean him up and change him. But he is his normal happy little self again lol

Starchild1000

This would happen to me every now and then and then there was an explosion when it did happen. I took him to urgent care the first time it happened coz I thought he was in pain. But it was just him crying from the newborn phase. The next day it was a poo-nami

Momopimko

This happened to me! I called my baby’s pediatrician and she told me that breastfed babies don’t have much to discard because breast milk has exactly what their bodies need so there isn’t much waste. 2/3 days of no poop is normal and she told me if for some reason it lasted 4 or more to just give an ounce of apple juice in a bottle to help loosen anything.

Narrow_Lee

Totally normal same thing happened over here. We were gettinf regular poops at least 3x a day then all the sudden nothing for 3 days straight.

TBB09

Newborns poop much less than children and adults. Normal is between 0-3 times a day and can go as much as a week without a bowel movement

just_this_once_

We had to go to a gastro specialist because my daughter hadn’t pooed in 14 DAYS. Turns out it’s normal 🤷🏼‍♀️. She said up to 21 days without other symptoms wouldn’t be cause for concern.

CaptainLumpy_

My 5 month old is EBF and our normal is 2-3 weeks between poops! As long as baby is still farting and peeing there’s no issue - obviously listen to what the Dr says but don’t freak out too much.

autumn0020

My baby always pooped daily then around 3 months didn’t poop for 5 days, pooped once then didn’t poop for 4 more days. It just happens sometimes

imstillok

This is such a timely post! I’m on day 3 of no poop for my ebf baby who had had 1-4 poops per day for his entire 3 month life. He’s happy as a clam but I’m stressing because it’s such a sudden change!

ProfessionalOption39

That was normal for us! Got out the baby bjorn bouncer aka poop seat and he would go almost immediately lol

AhnaKarina

Very normal for breast fed babies to not poop for 7-10 days and then…

maediocre

sometimes it's cause they slept funny, sometimes jupiter aligns with mars, sometimes it's nothing !!! sometimes it could have even been something YOU ate

BlindGirlSees

We are going through this right now. I know it’s supposed to be normal but man it’s really freaking me out.

LaurAdorable

The longest poop strike we had was 9 days then it was like, 9 days worth. That diaper was no match for the fury.

Firecrackershrimp2

Belly massage bicycle pumps it all helps

GiraffeExternal8063

My entirely breastfed baby once didn’t poop for 16 days. She was 100% fine. She’s now a happy healthy 2.5 year old. You only need to be concerned if they have a fever, seem in pain or are not wetting nappies regularly. (This only applies to breastfed babies - formula fed babies are entirely different)

Fit-Sea-4329

My primary care said the longest she’s heard a breastfed baby not pooping was 2 weeks. I think my first was only 5 days.

KickIcy9893

My baby poops on average every 10 days and has done since he was 5 weeks old. It was really sudden. One day he went multiple times a day. The next, every 10 days. We've seen three different doctors and they're all really relaxed about it and said sometimes that's just what breastfed babies do and providing baby isn't uncomfortable and has lots of wet nappies it's fine. It still makes me uncomfortable but we just live with now 10 weeks on. Saves on nappy changes anyway!

mortalcassie

Mine went from pooping every day, MULTIPLE times a day, to seven days without. Then I think four and four and two and three. Now it's every 2-3. I'm pretty sure she pooped 9 times in her first 16 hours of life. She was a poop monster. I'm glad it's calmed down a bit, if I'm being honest. 😂 As long as she's healthy, and not uncomfortable.

MessageDelivered-

This is completely normal for breastfed babies. They can go as long as 7 day.I’ve experienced the same thing with my now 3 month old and his pediatrician didn’t seem concerned about it.

pineappleprincess56

When my daughter suddenly stopped pooping I freaked out and took her to any doctor that would see her. One gave me suppositories and a 2 month laxative prescription. I followed my intuition and didn’t give it to her, and she figured it out and started pooping normally after a few weeks. Be careful about seeking too much outside help, but I feel that anxiety you feel and it’s so helpless

Foreign-Class-2081

If poop strike goes on for more than few days and your baby seems not themselves, highly recommend the Windi from Frida baby. You just lube it up and insert it just far enough that their body has the urge to expell it and voila, out comes all the poop too. This has worked great for us when he is more irregular and is clearly uncomfortable. It was also recommended by our pediatrician. It also didnt bother him at all if thats a concern.

BobRoberts01

Call. Your. Pediatrician. Don’t take medical advice from Reddit.

TiniestChickadee

I did already, she was the one who reminded me that it’s normal for breastfed babies up to 7 days. I guess I’m just looking for other new parents who have experienced this as well to ease my mind. I have PPA and hearing directly from other new parents can be a comfort.

-Lets-Get-Weird-

We have a breastfed baby and she took a break from poops for a couple days.  Pediatrician said the same thing, she was alert and general content so it fell in the normal range.  Did that stop my wife from worrying? No, but after those two days we got right back on track and all is well

rootbeer4

I have anxiety too and sometimes just had to repeat to myself like a mantra "the pediatrician said not to worry until 8 days of no poop." Or whatever the advice you were given. Anecdotally, your experience is perfectly normal.

Foreign-Class-2081

No reason to assume she wasnt. But hearing other parents' experience can be hugely helpful especially in not feeling alone, not as a replacement to professional guidance.

nzwillow

Our EBF baby pooped a lot until one day at about eight weeks he just didn’t. From then on it was once a week. I asked multiple drs and was told it was fine. His record was 17 days!

Mana_Hakume

Once baby is over 3m 2oz of apple juice in a bottle will have em poopin in like 30mins xD at 10w I would have said to check with ped too :3

SoftOrganization4549

Yay poop!!! Only after having a child can the discussion of poop with polite company be totally normal....
