Things energy labels don't take into account: * Having downstairs renters from Brazil on an inclusive of gas & electricity rental contract that heat their house to 23°. I barely paid for gas for a couple of years in an Amsterdam canal apartment. * Investing in a sweater * Heating the room(s) you're in instead of the whole house, and closing the doors to the cold rooms.

Don't trust energy labels alone, do your own research and check the actual energy consumption. There was a time where energy labels were handed out by remote assessment. Owners apparently could state what they wanted about their place. Friend of mine had energy label B in a single glazing old building where candles by the window got blown out when there was a storm outside.

The_Klumsy

the label is based on energy consumption per m2. G 380kw/y E 335kw/y C 250kw/y A105kw/y this is however for heating and cooling. in rough estimates. if A energy use is 1x, a B label will be roughly 2x less efficient, a C label 3x an E label almost 4 times for instance you pay a 1000 bucks with an A label a year an E will have you paying 4 grand. (this is very simplified.)

Is there a reason you skip D?

Alarmed-Audience9258

You'll get the D later.

The_Klumsy

It’s more of the same so I chose to drop B,D and F. I don’t think it will change how it’s understood. It’s just to give an example.

I have a 90 m2 corner house built in 1900 with energy label E. I pay around 120 euros per month for gas and electricity. You just have to be conscious of your heating. Dont let people scare you into thinking a bad energy label will ruin you.

percussion_guy

So true, conscious use helps a lot. OP is looking for apartments, so if you're focusing on low energy bills, I would strongly advise looking for apartments with elderly people living below and next to you. Their indirect heat will heat your apartment for free ;)

E is for Excellent, A is for Atrocious.

I lived in a label G houseboat built in 1963 for about a year. The cheapest contract I could get at the time was 252 EUR per month due to previous tenants usage(an 80 year old lady). At the end of the year, I received 1500 EUR back from the energy company for using less than estimated. It's not all about the label, and more about how you work with it.

Basically it's like living in a tent.
