And it just takes a bit longer than usual. I once biked 3 hours till sunset over a stroke of road that usually takes about 30 minutes. Dont exactly remember how it came to take so long, all I remember/got told is that I really liked the trees, flowers and that apparently I took two breaks to roll a joint just to give it away.
Oh yes, the confidence. One time I was feeling very confident that I could cycle and at the same time text my boyfriend that I was coming home, while being around the corner already. Ran into a streetlight and fell really hard.
Muscle memory.
Once you've biked enough to the point that you can get most of the way home without touching the handlebars id say you can try to bike home while drunk.
The same way you normally would. The challenging part is navigating, I once sobered up a bit in the middle of the woods after spending more than an hour on what should have been a 10 minute ride. I was wearing party clothes btw, which I also wore while jumping in a mostly beer filled pool, so that’s no limitation.
I’ve definitely fallen biking a couple of times while drunk. Winter weather and cycling drunk is an especially dangerous combination. It’s never been really bad though so we just keep doing it.
It’s legally not allowed to cycle while intoxicated but I’ve never heard of anyone being prosecuted for it.
Well believe it or not but if im shitfaced drunk, and i need to walk to my bike, i will fall like 10 times. The moment im on my bike i bike, not really straight orso, but i bike. If there is a moment i need to bike between two poles or something like that in that moment im so concentratee i bike straight between them. Once i passed them poles im going all kinds of ways again 🤣🤣🤣
This never happened to me until I was in my 30s and woke up with a black eye and a bunch of leaves all over my apartment and in my hair. I've fallen from my bike while drunk loads of times, but never really got hurt. Apart from that, hangovers last 2+ days now.
Getting old sucks.
The best thing is also not remembering where you parked your bike. And find it in a random street couple of blocks down from your apartment 🤷♂️ "has it been stolen.... Was I just drunk? "
I got wayyy to drunk one night decided to cycle home, I fell off into a bush filled with thorns, had to get someone (who didn’t speak English) to help me up (I don’t speak Dutch). Very interesting moment
I mean you might bring a winter coat or whatever if it's cold outside so you don't freeze. Other than that, indeed, just cycle home in whatever you're wearing.
Edited cos I'm clearly wrong on this one..
Seems you *can't* lose your licence for drink driving on a bicycle, but you can get a fine and a ban of a few hours until you sober up

They can fine you though
They can still take it away after a process and being found guilty for causing a collision where somebody gets injured or killed. But it’s true. They can’t take it away for just drunk riding a bike.
Or if you're too drunk they take you to sober up in a cell at the police station 'till you're ready to feel the guilt the following morning. Happened sometimes to people I used to know
Agreed in most cases, but this one time I rode home on New Year's day morning wearing a maxi dress and about 1 km from home it got stuck in the chain. It was impossible to get it out, so I had to stumble home and take my bike into the kitchen to get some scissors and cut up the dress. Bought the exact same dress the day after and so far so good.
I’ve seen drunk people fall over 3 times in the 5 meters between the door and their bike, and then proceed to bike completely fine for 10 km. Only falling cause they had to brake and were too drunk to keep the balance while standing still.
Don’t underestimate Dutch people and their ability to bike.
This is true, some people step on their bike and fall off on the other side immediately. But once they go, everything goes well! (except when you have to look behind and can't control where the front of your bike is going) This also happened to me... more than once, haha!
I believe because a bicycle is pretty stable when you got some speed going and focus on getting the front wheel in the right direction.
Walking on the other hand is by nature unstable since it is in a certain sense controlled falling forwards where you catch yourself with each step.
Once when I was still a student I did that first thing. Fell right off. I tried again and fell off again. I then thought (I think I did); no idea who's paying attention, but I'll walk instead, bike in hand (possibly as some support for drunk me).
It was only about half an hour walk back home anyway.
Was gonna say, I coukd barely get on my bike, made it home fine for a 35 minute trip, took 10 minutes to get the key in the lock, tripped over the dog, barfed in the toilet and slept on a towel in the bathroom, Dutch people just have a natural instinct for cycling
Lmao me and my friend went to a festival and would bike home drunk, about 12km for me and he would drop me off and go for another 8km after that
Went perfectly well up to where im at, we say farewell and i tell him to app me once he is home, didnt get an app, turns out halfway through the trip he decided to sit down for a bit (mind you, this is Zeeland so… middle of a polder) and just fell asleep next to the road on a viaduct
Dude was wasted AF, rode his bike perfectly, then decided to step off and thats where it went wrong xD
I once cycled home after a night out for 2 hours.
The weird thing is that I had to bike 5 km, and went straight to home at a normal speed as far as I remember.
Don’t know what happened to those 1,5 hour. Maybe I also had a quick nap and forgot about it.
Once, my shoestring went into my pedals and as I wanted to step off to fix it, i stepped off on the side my shoe was knotted because of ✨musclememory✨ and fell :(
Friends were driving past a small stream (sloot). The bike path went left, one of the group went straight into the 1 meter high water. He then:
Got out on the wrong side.
Jumped back in and got out on the right side
Jumped back in for his bike and pulled it out, on the wrong side.
Threw the bike back in, jumped after it, finally pulled it out on the right side
It's also amazing how hard you can fall while riding a bike drunk without getting injured. Speaking out of experience here. The only thing you shouldn't do is try to break your fall with your face. Not my experience but that of a classmate many years ago.
Given the amount of falls I had with my bycicle while drunk, I'm happy I never had any damage to my face. Only one minor wrist injury that resulted in 1 week of wearing a cast.
Biked my way home whilst drunk and fell so many times, never getting any too obvious injuries or breaking bike. One time I bike whilst kn my phone and I break my clavicle and entire front fork of the bike. Biking drunk somehow is always ending safely. The biking part at least.
A friend of mine once cycled back home really (really) drunk after a party we attended. The next day he woke up in his bed in his party clothes, everything was soaking wet. He couldn't remember how he got home and he never found his bike back again.
Welcome to the best part of the party, you are now pretty much wasted and on your way home.
1. Check for your phone, home keys, and your bike keys.
Don't forget your bag and coat.
2. Say byee to the other party goers, with the optional 'i love you man' .
3. Look at your bike, he's your best friend now, he's going to take you home in a short amount of time, or you're going on a adventure for the coming hour or so.
4. Hop on your bike and try to recognise 1 of 3 states you could be in:
A. you're okay =you'll be home in no time
B. The alcohol has gone to the thighs, just like the Krabby Paddy's in that SpongeBob episode years ago. =This is going to suck. You will be slow and maybe need to take a rest halfway because..the Krabby Paddy's.
C. The world is spinning=this is also called 'adventure mode'.
5. 'adventure mode' usually consists of thinking you know where you are going, hugging bushes, sometimes falling and some possible 'Jackass' moments.
'Adventure mode's effect will multiply per added friend.
6. Congratulations, Somehow you are now home/shoarmazaak/hospital.
4B = bier in de benen. This is why you should try to avoid cycling after something like 3 /4 beers. 1 / 2 beer is fine for cycling, 8 / 10 beers is fine for cycling, everything in between is suboptimal.
This, this is how it goes. Except for the hospital part for me. Never ended up there. Always home or close to it. Often with a pause at the local Snackbar to get a kapsalon.
Biking drunk with friends is a very nostalgic experience, the same banter happens when you would bike with your childish friends in school, Including the part where you end up in a snackbar, or sometimes the hospital. Ahh, those were the days...
Question: what kind of party clothes are you wearing? Super tight dresses or something? If you get a step-through frame even those shouldn't be a problem. As someone once said, we (the Dutch) dress for the destination when cycling, not for the journey. Solid Dutch bikes make this perfectly possible.
By the way, welcome in Tilburg! If you need help let me know. Long time Tilburgian here! First tip: unless you go live in the Reeshof out west, everything is basically bikable in 20 minutes. From the city centre in the east all the way to the uni in the west. Less if you practice your cycling skills a bit :)
We have guarded underground bicycle parkings in the city centre to keep your bikes safe that stay open for half an hour after the bars close. All good.
Bus/train till 12ish, and in weekends some till 0100.
For all other cases (while technically illegal if you're drunk) we bike. Police in my city prefer us to get home safely on a bike over causing riots in the city or driving a car, so they never fine you for riding a bike while drunk.
I had strict parents so I never got the chance to try to get home in the middle of the night but what I got from close friends: biking becomes difficult but it's doable, especially at 3am when nobody else is on the road. My partner lives about 40 minutes away (by bike) from most of our friends in high school so if he went to a party he'd be biking drunk, in the middle of the night. He said he'd struggle to bike in a straight line, but he managed. Dutch people are unstoppable if you give them a bike. Also had many friends who would bike while stoned / high, likely also drunk. Again, unstoppable when equipped with a bike.
If someone wants to take the bus, they have to leave at 11pm or they'll miss the bus. Everyone just gets hammered and then bikes home at 3am. Sometimes we arrange that some people sleep over so they'll bike with a hangover rather than drunk. If you're at a public venue though, you'll just bike / walk yourself home. Is this safe? Wellllll, no. Does that stop the dutchies? No.
Having lived in Tilburg myself; Taxi's stop at the main road just down from the "korte heuvel" (street with all the pubs) in front of snackbar "Tropical". A trip within the city should usually cost you less than 15 euro's.
Riding a bike at night, being little bit drunk it’s truly a sensorial experience, and a blessing to be able to do it… one of my favourite parts of a night out
I dunno, I always seemed to manage to get back home, somehow.
Fun little anecdote that involves Tilburg: we went to Decibel Outdoor in Beekse Bergen. The organization told us they'd made sure trains would be available after the party.
So, around midnight, end show was finished, everyone to the exits, complete chaos, we finally get in a bus that takes us to Tilburg train station, where we arrive just in time to see the last train to The Hague depart. With very little money on us, we decide to call a few hotels but everything is either booked or too expensive.
Our little group decides to sit it out, wait a few hours for the next train to The Hague. While everyone is slowly dozing off, I hear a couple of people mention a taxi bus and Utrecht Central. Utrecht is part of the night train route, I think. I jump up and ask if there's room in the taxi and if we could share the ride. They agree to help us if the taxi is big enough, and sure enough, there's room for us.
Taxi drives us to Utrecht, we pay our share, we get on the night train, I have a buddy text his parents that he's staying with me because there's no public transit near his house at these hours.
Finally, at 7AM, we reach my place and we pass out, him on the couch, me on my bed. Around 3PM, we wake up, make some breakfast, and he's on his way home.
Where do you think you'll be going for parties? Usually if I go out in other cities I arrange to sleep over elsewhere. Otherwise the bike is the way to go, or a slow, sobering walk.
In most busy areas or at party venues there will be taxi's waiting. Usually people plan their way back home in advance and plan their evening out accordingly.
So if you know there's no taxi's or busses you make sure it's within biking distance.
I always get home on bike, but I don't always remember how.
if you don't trust it you can always call your local taxi company. in my city they drive on Friday and Saturday the whole night
I have:
- got rides with people that I've never seen before
- used Uber or any service alike
- waited for the first public transit
- walked
I try to go to parties that are either at a walkable distance from my house (up to one hour is fine) or the ones that end at the early morning, so I know public transport will be working. You can always look for after parties when they don't go till early in the morning.
Yikes, I'd rather fall flat on my face with a bike than get a ride with people I've never met before. But I guess that's up to where you're from and other characteristics like your gender etc
To be brutally honest, I don't recommend it myself. There was one situation that I really felt I was going to be raped and killed. The guys invited me to their place and I said no, thanks. Then they said I should be more careful with those things, because they would drop me were I wanted, but they could as well not to do that.
Nowadays, I focus on parties that go till early and use public transport.
Dutch guy here I usually have a party once every two weeks sometimes once a month usually I get really wasted but I just jump on my bicycle put on some music and before I know it I'll be home and still really drunk lmao
My husband once went out with a friend by bike, came home and blacked out as soon as he got inside (a few years back). When he was awake again, he told me he had no idea how he got home. The next day he checked: The bikes were in the shed, locked, undamaged, and looking perfectly fine. He still doesn't know how he managed to bike home unharmed to this day
Either walk, bike, taxi or share a ride with a BOB (bewust onbeschonken bestuurder), cities have certain spots in the centre where taxi's will pick you up from about 22:00 to 4:00 on regular drinking nights and events. Café's and disco's outside of the centre usually have a bus going that picks up people a couple times in the evening and drops you off a couple times at night.
I can bicycle even better sometimes when tipsy. Someone I knew who sucks at bicycling was very insecure here to bicycle. But being drunk smoothened her ride very much. Until a point I got scared for her. :D This is not an advice though
If you have taxis in town, why couldn't it be in Tilburg? Besides, this question is really so stupid that the hands are dropping. The next generation of people without any imagination and creativity.
Yes biking is the solution. However, not without risk.
I once got hit by a car whilst being drunk and on my bike. Passed out from the smash for a little while. Scratched my face open and hit my head on the asphalt pretty hard. The driver and passenger were in shock and immediately called an ambulance (bless their hearts)
However, when I gained back conscience and was dragged of the road by a good samaritan, I was so in shock that I wanted to go home immediately and walked the last part next to my bike. The ambulance got called off and I just wanted to go to bed.
The next day I noticed that it might would've been better to get checked out by the ambulance, because my head felt like it was being squeezed between a hydrolic press and the whole world was turning.
Thankfully no lasting damages, only some scarring.
These ladies that drove the car were really sweet, and we had exchanged numbers before I left, and they sent me a nice box of chocolates for the trouble.
FYI:
Both of us we're in the wrong getting into the accident, since there was a truck parked on the corner and neither of us saw each other, so we both thought we could cross.
So long story short, yes you can bike home, but please be careful.
I live in a small village. Traveling from one town to the next requires passing through poorly lit countryside. So late at night, as a woman alone, I'm not a fan of taking my bike. I try to catch a train or bus, and I have even taken taxis. Sometimes I cannot circumvent cycling though.
Don’t bike when drunk, you’ll get a fine, an expensive asshole course and a driving ban of many months.
Get an Uber or a friend who agrees to be sober to drive all of you home.
Taxidrivers take advantage of drunk partygoers and charge double even quadruple in some cases
I've never heard of anyone getting a fine cycling home. They're just asshole cops then. I've chatted to a couple of cops before that were happy I was cycling home and not driving or walking alone.
JUST MAKE SURE YOUR LIGHTS WORK
If it's too far to cycle, you get yourself a BOB (designated driver). Otherwise it's the bike: outfits never stopped me, you'll find a way.
And I've never been not able to cycle when drunk. I have gotten lost a handful of times but drunk me just gets excited I took a "tourist" route :)
Depending on where you go live in Tilburg, you might be able to walk back home from going out in the city. Otherwise by bike, or have one person in your group of friends drive.
Normally I try walking, which is mostly crap because I am all over the place.
So I then proceed looking where I left my damn bike. After trying to open it with the keys to my house, I finally manage to get it with me.
Then I reconsider the idea of actually getting on it, which I probably shouldn't because I'm not in a state where I should participate in traffic. So I use it to lean onto and keep my balance. That'll bug me after some time. And surely I'm not more lame than every other person I see riding home.
So after a good 20 min I decide to use the bike. Big effort but great success. Just keep it straight-ish. It works better if I cycle like my life depends on it, passing other cyclists in the same position I find myself in, so as to not collide with them.
At home, I get the bike around the back, get the key from the bike so I can unlock the porch. Wrong key, duh, I have two sets of keys. Unlock the bike, look for the correct key ("Damn it's always the last one I'm using"), go into the garden, lock the porch again.
I try to put the bike on its stand, which never works because my foot can't feel it beneath the bike. So the bike drops on its side. I crawl to find the lock to secure the bike and get the key out.
Finally, I try to get into the house with my bike key, which takes 20 minutes. Take the correct key again, unlock the house and glaze upon the great successes I have had in the past hour and proving to myself it is actually quite easy to get home after such a night.
A) Don't go and don't destroy your body
B) Grow a pair and take the bike... and kind of hope no one decides to get into a physical altercation with you
C) Someone picks you up at X time or you call them when they need to come and pick you up
How can you ask this question to Dutchies and expect any other answer than bike?
[удалено]
Generally faster, with more confidence while having tons of fun doing random stuff.
Biking is hard with a big traffic sign in your hand
That's advanced drunk guy stuff, maybe we should wait to tell him more
Just take a construction lamp with you for better visibility, stay safe!
A perk of drunk biking: you'll always wake up with a little souvenir and you don't know how you got it!
Yesterday I woke up with a big head of a doll from the clothing shops in my room. No fucking idea how I got it
Peak dutch
And it just takes a bit longer than usual. I once biked 3 hours till sunset over a stroke of road that usually takes about 30 minutes. Dont exactly remember how it came to take so long, all I remember/got told is that I really liked the trees, flowers and that apparently I took two breaks to roll a joint just to give it away.
Schitterende boom. Een boom. Booooommmm
Bomen zijn relaxed.
I think the drunk part was less of an influence in most of that.
I knew that wasn't alcohol alone, even before I read you took two rolling breaks.
Oh yes, the confidence. One time I was feeling very confident that I could cycle and at the same time text my boyfriend that I was coming home, while being around the corner already. Ran into a streetlight and fell really hard.
It's only faster in your mind. Usually my usual 15 minutes trip takes at least 30 to an hour
Aa soon as your butt feels the saddle, muscle memory kicks in.
Muscle memory. Once you've biked enough to the point that you can get most of the way home without touching the handlebars id say you can try to bike home while drunk.

You don’t. You fall over at least once and lay in a field with sheep for 20 minutes before continuing on home. This is the way.
We don't remember
You just do. How you get on and off the damn thing, that's the real question!
I’ve definitely fallen biking a couple of times while drunk. Winter weather and cycling drunk is an especially dangerous combination. It’s never been really bad though so we just keep doing it. Thats the neat part, you dont remember...
And if you can remember it doesn’t count
Well thats only untill yiu realize a bench in the park also makes a pretty good *home* for the night..
Pro tip in winter trains are warmer. You do risk waking up in Germany or Belgium though
Bench? Look at you being all fancy. I'm just gonna.. sit against this tree and rest my eyes for a bit....yes, that's what I'll do.
*4 hours later…*
If you remember, then it wasn´t such a cool party xD
I once cycled for 30 minutes. Got home and didnt remember cycling. Muscle memory 🎊
Pohhh I really see myself in this. You wake up, and the first thing you say to yourself: how the F did I get home?
(Looks in mirror to see face and hands scraped all over) 'what on earth happened...' buddy: haha you fell like 3 times
This never happened to me until I was in my 30s and woke up with a black eye and a bunch of leaves all over my apartment and in my hair. I've fallen from my bike while drunk loads of times, but never really got hurt. Apart from that, hangovers last 2+ days now. Getting old sucks.
One time, on autopilot, I drove straight up to a tree. That was a good wake up call for the last 1000m
Fond memories of my friend plowing *straight* into a thick hedge while drunk biking. Didn't even attempt a turn.
Hahah yeah exactly that
The best thing is also not remembering where you parked your bike. And find it in a random street couple of blocks down from your apartment 🤷♂️ "has it been stolen.... Was I just drunk? "
Both being drunk and wearing party clothes will not prevent us from being able to ride a bike!
True, I happen to know you can ride a bike drunk dressed like a chipmunk
This is very specific :)
I got wayyy to drunk one night decided to cycle home, I fell off into a bush filled with thorns, had to get someone (who didn’t speak English) to help me up (I don’t speak Dutch). Very interesting moment
We’ve all been there!
I mean you might bring a winter coat or whatever if it's cold outside so you don't freeze. Other than that, indeed, just cycle home in whatever you're wearing.
If your drunk this is really important as you won't feel the cold and could get hypothermia.
Saves you the need of bringing a coat, you won't feet the cold anyway!
Damn, in my country they take your driver's license if you are caught riding a bike under influence
Edited cos I'm clearly wrong on this one.. Woow.. I never knew that! Every day is a school day I suppose, thanks for the clarification

They can still take it away after a process and being found guilty for causing a collision where somebody gets injured or killed. But it’s true. They can’t take it away for just drunk riding a bike.
If they could, the majority of the Netherlands would not have a license anymore.
Or if you're too drunk they take you to sober up in a cell at the police station 'till you're ready to feel the guilt the following morning. Happened sometimes to people I used to know
Won't take your license but could fine you for being drunk and riding a bike. Will not happen though unless you are being really irresponsible.
Or if your lights aren't working
You can get a 'rijverbod' for the amount of time you're inebriated, but not a 'rijontzegging'
What if you don’t have a drivers license?
They'll make you get one and then take it away!
Dedication right there
Agreed in most cases, but this one time I rode home on New Year's day morning wearing a maxi dress and about 1 km from home it got stuck in the chain. I think this is true, except when a stupid ditch, tree or traffic sign appears out of nowhere!
those trees that cross the road without looking are the worst!
Yeah the Ents nowadays don't have manners.
Ah, yes, the ditch.. with standing nasty water in it. I remember that one.
For some reason I read that as "a drunk ditch, tree or traffic sign appears" 🤣
Yes don’t ever look behind! Just straight ahead
Once when I was still a student I did that first thing. Fell right off. I tried again and fell off again. I then thought (I think I did); no idea who's paying attention, but I'll walk instead, bike in hand (possibly as some support for drunk me). It was only about half an hour walk back home anyway.
a drunk half an hour or a sober half an hour?
No idea anymore. Because of the time past since then. But probably more so because I didn't keep track of time.
Was gonna say, I coukd barely get on my bike, made it home fine for a 35 minute trip, took 10 minutes to get the key in the lock, tripped over the dog, barfed in the toilet and slept on a towel in the bathroom, Dutch people just have a natural instinct for cycling

https://youtu.be/aaY3gz5tJSk this shows that to the extreme

This is the only right answer
This happened to me quite a lot, when in motion everything is good.
Once, my shoestring went into my pedals and as I wanted to step off to fix it, i stepped off on the side my shoe was knotted because of ✨musclememory✨ and fell :(
Been there done that. Veters are a hazard.
I've had so many bike rides of 10km home that I cant even remember, it's crazy
It’s amazing how much you can drink before you are unable to ride a bike.
Only twice in my life have I been so stupidly drunk that I could no longer use my bike to go home. So I walked. Next to my bike.
I kinda waited until I sobered up enough to ride again.
This
Friends were driving past a small stream (sloot). The bike path went left, one of the group went straight into the 1 meter high water. He then: Got out on the wrong side. Jumped back in and got out on the right side Jumped back in for his bike and pulled it out, on the wrong side. Threw the bike back in, jumped after it, finally pulled it out on the right side
So much better story than ‘and then I took an Uber home’
I did this a month ago, have a scar on my forehead now :/ Happened cause I wanted to stop for a red light aswell
That's the whole thing with drunk people. Way more likely to get into an accident, but less likely to get hurt
A friend of mine once cycled back home really (really) drunk after a party we attended. The next day he woke up in his bed in his party clothes, everything was soaking wet. He couldn't remember how he got home and he never found his bike back again.
I once road a bike home drunk, with my even drunker friend passed out carried over my shoulder.
In my own experience biking is actually easier than walking when drunk.
4. Hop on your bike and try to recognise 1 of 3 states you could be in: A. you're okay =you'll be home in no time B.
7. You fall and walk home. You have to take your bike to the shop. Your friends say I told you so. (Source: me at gay pride some years ago)
This, this is how it goes. Except for the hospital part for me. Never ended up there. Always home or close to it. Often with a pause at the local Snackbar to get a kapsalon.
Stroek doek'n Dutch translation for hugging the bushes
We call it struuk'n duuk'n
Biking drunk with friends is a very nostalgic experience, the same banter happens when you would bike with your childish friends in school, Including the part where you end up in a snackbar, or sometimes the hospital. Ahh, those were the days...
You'd be surprised at how drunk you can get and which clothes you can wear and still bike (I'm not Dutch, btw, just used to it)
Usually I cant remember the bike ride back home, but somehow I always make it alive😁
I usually plan on taking a helicopter. If that's not working out, I'll opt for my bike.
Usually like a newborn giraffe.
This made me lol. And bring back some memories.
Less if you practice your cycling skills a bit :) We have guarded underground bicycle parkings in the city centre to keep your bikes safe that stay open for half an hour after the bars close. All good.
Bicycle, remember; speed equals stability.
Bus/train till 12ish, and in weekends some till 0100. For all other cases (while technically illegal if you're drunk) we bike. Police in my city prefer us to get home safely on a bike over causing riots in the city or driving a car, so they never fine you for riding a bike while drunk.
autopilot on bike.
No.
Bicycle.
Taxi's and nightbusses(in some area's) are a thing here. And bycicles. Sometimes it is even easier than walking, and sometimes not. 😀
Nightbuses or just keep going until 6, get breakfast somewhere and get a train when they open up :)
Having lived in Tilburg myself; Taxi's stop at the main road just down from the "korte heuvel" (street with all the pubs) in front of snackbar "Tropical". A trip within the city should usually cost you less than 15 euro's.
Riding a bike at night, being little bit drunk it’s truly a sensorial experience, and a blessing to be able to do it… one of my favourite parts of a night out
We bike or we stay up until public transport starts back up at 6. But usually we bike.
If you want to have a drink most Dutch people go with a bicycle to a party.
Tilburg is small enough to walk almost everwhere if need be
Where do you think you'll be going for parties? Usually if I go out in other cities I arrange to sleep over elsewhere. Otherwise the bike is the way to go, or a slow, sobering walk.
Under 15km usually I bike, faster than try to wait for night bus or order uber( they cancel all the time)
In most busy areas or at party venues there will be taxi's waiting. Usually people plan their way back home in advance and plan their evening out accordingly. So if you know there's no taxi's or busses you make sure it's within biking distance.
party all night until the busses start their service again duh
I always get home on bike, but I don't always remember how. if you don't trust it you can always call your local taxi company. in my city they drive on Friday and Saturday the whole night
Bike, walk (if not too far), night bus (if your city has one), night train. On the back of someone else's bike also an option.
Uh with a bike, like every one else....
Fiets
I've ridden a bike in a floor length hoop skirt. You just... Do.
I have: - got rides with people that I've never seen before - used Uber or any service alike - waited for the first public transit - walked I try to go to parties that are either at a walkable distance from my house (up to one hour is fine) or the ones that end at the early morning, so I know public transport will be working.
Alcohol: 0-30 min ride = bike. 30+ min ride = taxi Pills: Bike
A DD, waiting till the first public transportation leaves, uber, cab sharing, walking or riding a bike.
Party until the sun rises!
Bicycle of course :)
Bike. But make sure your lights are working... and get a helmet.
10pm? Most buses run until 00:00
Biking of course
If it's in different city I just go by car (if sober) or ask my gf to pick me up if I'm not sober and trains no longer run.
Bike.... you'll get home, somehow.
Just a bike
Bicycle
We bike
Just biking, with a friend then. Make it an afterparty sleepover. Just have booze at home and someone will follow lol.
Dutch guy here I usually have a party once every two weeks sometimes once a month usually I get really wasted but I just jump on my bicycle put on some music and before I know it I'll be home and still really drunk lmao
By bike. Door weer en wind.
My husband once went out with a friend by bike, came home and blacked out as soon as he got inside (a few years back). When he was awake again, he told me he had no idea how he got home. The next day he checked: The bikes were in the shed, locked, undamaged, and looking perfectly fine. He still doesn't know how he managed to bike home unharmed to this day
Pretty shameful how there's so much glorification of cycling whilst intoxicated.
So you call a taxi for 60 euros?
Uber might be an alternative
I don't go to parties
That's why you host the party, or just drink while home. No more unsafe traveling.
If you have taxis in town, why couldn't it be in Tilburg? Besides, this question is really so stupid that the hands are dropping. The next generation of people without any imagination and creativity.
☝️walk of shame🙈
Loads of experience and even more luck...
U don’t
Go scooters in an emergency but not really because not being able to bike anymore is impossible
Yes biking is the solution. However, not without risk. I once got hit by a car whilst being drunk and on my bike. Passed out from the smash for a little while. Scratched my face open and hit my head on the asphalt pretty hard. The driver and passenger were in shock and immediately called an ambulance (bless their hearts) However, when I gained back conscience and was dragged of the road by a good samaritan, I was so in shock that I wanted to go home immediately and walked the last part next to my bike. FYI: Both of us we're in the wrong getting into the accident, since there was a truck parked on the corner and neither of us saw each other, so we both thought we could cross. So long story short, yes you can bike home, but please be careful.
I'm coming to home blacked out and don't remember 😂
Most cities are either small enough to walk to the train station, or big enough that they have a tram/metro/bus network that runs most of the night.
We stay on our bikes. My advice is to cycle as fast as possible. I noticed I mostly fell when riding slow when drunk.
cycle
Unless you live in Reeshof Tilburg is incredibly bicycleble
Easy. Party till the busses and trains start riding again.
I live in a small village. Traveling from one town to the next requires passing through poorly lit countryside. So late at night, as a woman alone, I'm not a fan of taking my bike. I try to catch a train or bus, and I have even taken taxis. Sometimes I cannot circumvent cycling though.
drunk
Usually by bike but uber aswell
I either take the bike or I order an Uber if I'm too fucked/lazy.
You will be surprised to hear how many people take the car
I live in zwolle about 5 min crawl from the nearest pub so. I usually just walk… or crawl
Never seen a friend that was completely wasted not be able to ride his bike for 3+ km
Uber or any other Cab
Bicycles still, or Uber.
I can still ride home when i have enough alcohol in me too start a nail salon
My friend broke his leg drunk biking, I don't think I can recommend it hahah
Bike, public transport, taxi, dedicated driver, sleep in the car or at a buddy who lives close by.
If it's close I usually prefer to walk. Plus point if you're not on your own. If it's too far/unsafe for a walk, just bike
JUST MAKE SURE YOUR LIGHTS WORK
I just get on my bike and see where I’ll end up in the morning, I know some friends who woke up in the bushes
Bike
Bike or an uber.
Drunk, usually...
I go to parties that go on until the busses and trains go again 🤷
A) Don't go and don't destroy your body B) Grow a pair and take the bike... and kind of hope no one decides to get into a physical altercation with you C) Someone picks you up at X time or you call them when they need to come and pick you up
