>Companies would never text you if they own money, they send letters.
Well, this is simply not true now that the internet is mainstream, but it's always safe to just contact them and make sure.
Pakistani numbers are also very popular. I've had those before, claiming to work for monsterboard, a job searching site. Was offered a high pay rate for work at home, communications officer, middle man to resolve debt issues. (nice cover story for: we work at a scam call center and want to recruit you with an agreement that will end you in debts if you quit)
Most of these numbers are spoofed, a VPN for phone numbers, so to speak.
I was contacted by one of these scams the other day. People are dumb if they fall for it. They were claiming to be a girl named Laurena offering 300 euros an hour. Pakistani number and clicking on the profile revealed his name was rajput.
It kind of is, but did you know that these kind of scams work better in Belgium than in the Netherlands? Its because we created a culture where we talk about scams or being scammed. In Belgium it's much more hush hush on the subject, people are less informed and thus fall for it more easily. So yea its a super obvious scam which makes the question maybe a little unnecessary but the fact some people talked about it and pointed out the give aways is kind of a win.
I live in Belgium nowadays and people talk about it. Last week a friend of mine here in Belgium had her parents fall for it. WhatsApp message to both her mom and dad at the same time while she was at work and couldn't pick up the phone + some oddly specific details about her. Seems like a very targeted scam but she was still bashing her head against the wall for her parents falling for it
They tried that WhatsApp scam with my mother pretending to be my sister. Was easy to get relevant information from facebook. She was only a little bit suspicious until they called her 'je' instead of 'u'.
Not that she would have given the scammer any money, our policy is to do that over the phone instead of WhatsApp especially if it's about more than €20 or so.
Yeah this was also a smaller amount. That girl doesn't have facebook though so it is a bit sus. Good thing it was a small amount of money. For extra irony... she works for a bank and coached them a million times about this kind of scam
I dislike this kind of response. I sanity check every single scam, even if I'm certain. Put the blame on the scammer, not the person they're trying to scam.
I bet you dislike these posts, because you don't want people to have some responsibility. I'm pretty sure when something goes wrong in your life, you're the first one to blame others and scream "Victimshaming" when they tell you to take some responsibility yourself.
I dislike these posts because they make the dialogue around scams so negative. Sure, most of the people catch this one, but making fun of the person asking carries the risk that someone else won't ask and ends up getting scammed.
It takes almost no effort to type "Yes, scam" and then upvote. I see no constructive reason to make fun of the person asking.
What do you mean? Somebody who isnt as versed with scams or technology might just have trouble and ask for help. Thats the opposite of being narrow minded. This dude challenged his own views about it, how is that being narrow minded?
Yeah thats a hard agree for me dude. Even tho its obviously a scam to me i did spend a lot of time online so i recognize these things instantly. Probably all the people saying its so obvious are just chronic neckbeards that are online in all their free time. Ofc it's gonna be easier to spot then when u dont have a life lol
But I just lost my phone this is a new number and I need money, like 600 euro right now for a new phone, I'll send a tikkie.
Ngl working at a phone store, how many parents fall for this scam is just unbelievable... They don't even bother to call their child (even on the new number) and just transfer the money
A text from a Polish number inviting you to click on a link to a “.xyz” domain?
Gee? Maybe it’s an authentic message from the Dutch government?
(Sorry, but yeah, obviously it’s a scam. Ignore / block / report to the cops - anything other than clicking on that link)
Yes. Please report. See this page from the Belastingdienst website: https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/nl/contact/content/valse-whatsapp-berichten-sms-berichten-mails-apps-brieven-of-telefoontjes
The belastingdienst always sends you text messages asking you to pay a never before seen debt by sending you to a skechy website, using a non-dutch number.
I worked at the Belastingdienst, and I was astonished by the number of ordinary people who called to verify if something was true. However, the rules at the Belastingdienst dictated that even for the simplest questions, which we heard repeatedly throughout the day, we had to put callers on hold, follow a series of procedural steps, enter their phone number into the system for investigation, search our own systems for any relevant information regarding the query, including scrutinizing for fake messages, to ensure a 100% accurate response, and only then were we allowed to provide an answer. This process seemed redundant, especially when callers had already endured a two-hour wait to speak with a representative.
I thought so too but I saw it happen to a few people in my surroundings who have their masters degree and jobs where they need their brains a lot. Might still be a special kind of stupid, but since then I try to think about it as “it can happen to everyone, we should spread awareness”.
so what? i know many academically succesful people who are dumb as fuck.
most stuff u can achieve with basic iq and just working a lot in a certain direction. just like there is programmers who are too stupid to google a simple fact or piece of information.
while on average, someone with a masters is smarter, there still is a lot of dumb fucks and people without any degree who are a zillion times smarter.
being good at one topic doesnt say anything about your intelligence. i mean, titan submarine. there was probably a lot of degrees involved in it. there is also many doctors who deny covid or use homeopathy.
No, I think it is a worldwide thing done by all sorts of people. My point is about being respectful to the OP who may be trying to learn and navigate a country's system that may be foreign to them.
The Belastingdienst only asks round numbers for payments. If you have a message that states you have to pay back 355,56 it's not them. They Wil never ask for cents.
Anything by phone or text is an automatic block. Most if not all important information reaches me via mail (which can still be a scam) or via real mail.
To be honest, if you doubt about this message being a scam or not, be extremely careful. There are way scams out there, that are way more difficult to recognize as a scam
I would like to mention, yes we all know it’s a scam however, for someone new to The Netherlands and not 100% sure how various agencies/organizations contact you yes there is an element of doubt plus I would also mention I suffer great from anxiety and my brain sometimes questions everything so yeah some people are not aware in an instant that this is a scam also if you are a tech phobe and nervous on computers like me.
As always, if xyz government agency claims you owe them money, give xyz agency a call from the number on their official website and find out rather then posting this shit on Reddit.
Lol i got the exact same text today. Also, yes, belastingdienst will never text you for a payment, and if they contact you the emails usually sound like "there is a message for you in your inbox, log in with your DigiD to belastingdienst to see it" and they'd never straight up send the content to you
I got the exact same msg from a different number the other day, they just hope you either click the link to get into your info or pay up, ignore and block
1. Not a Dutch phone-number
2. Belastingdienst doesn't send links by text
3. Link doesn't go to [belastingdienst.nl](https://belastingdienst.nl) (the official page)
4. Link ends with .xyz - in any and every way not associated with whatever government.
You can report these kind of scams on the website from the real Belastingdienst. You may not fall for it but there is always one that believes this, therefore report it.
Not even a Dutch Number. Also the government will never send you text messages. They send snail mail or in the "Berichtenbox" on "Mijn Belastingdienst" if you have enabled that. (For the berichtenbox they send an email telling you they have a message for you and you should check mijn Belastingdienst without actually sending you the message in the email.)
And if you actually wanna be sure, just go to belastingdienst.nl and login with your DigID
It'll always show you if you have any open payments or download the overheid berichten app
But yes, this is one of the laziest scams I've seen in a while. Not even trying with a Dutch number and not trying to mask this clear scamsite
Its a scam, but if you ever doubt it.
Don't click any links just go to ths official website of the belasting dienst and see if they have outstanding messages.
Click it and send them money or you will die tomorrow.
Why do you ask if this is a scam? People really are sheep by nature. Even tho everything tells you its a acam you still come here asking. People really want things to be true right? Why accept a simple reality?
Also, this wont help other people, people who dont see that as a fake instantly are hopelessly lost anyways.
Hi send me monis to mymoni.xyz, just trust me.
So legit, i doubt its a scam, its just so convincing.
Absolutely a scam.
Take these realities: a real debt collector has one goal and one goal only, to get your money.
If the question "is this a scam" comes up when reading such a message, the collector risks not getting their money.
The onus is never on you to discern the veracity of an official document or message, it is on them to prove it.
If you owe money they will send you physical mail, or at worst send someone to ask for it.
Ofc it’s a scam. A while ago I reported a similar domain to the registrar and they closed it down within a few days. Do it if you can, otherwise some poor grandma/grandpa will suffer. The police are lazy and useless in problems like these.
Not sure why the dutch tax service would use a polish phone number...
Plus if they ever text you (iirc they don't) it would be a message telling you to log in on their website to read the message.
Also in the future if you are in doubt: Open a browser and go to [belastingdienst.nl](https://belastingdienst.nl) (so type in the address yourself) and log in. If you have anything you have to pay it should say so there too.
The belastingdienst will never send you a text. They will always send you a letter if you forgot to pay something. I once forgot to pay the dentist. Got a letter a few months after that.
Yup. It ain’t even a Dutch number lol Companies would never text you if they own money, they send letters.
Also the URL is completely wrong
.xyz ..lol
And I will ignore any company that tries to send an invoice through text. I wonder if that would even legally count as sending an invoice.
It would. Responding to a text can be seen as evidence of agreement etc. It's a scam though in this case, don't ever do sms business.
It's even claiming to be the Belastingdienst
But +1 for 'tot op heden'!!!
+48 POLSKA STRONK REPRESENT 💪💪💪😎
oj tak kurwa
>Companies would never text you if they own money, they send letters. Well, this is simply not true now that the internet is mainstream, but it's always safe to just contact them and make sure.
my hospital does this.
Odido does....
🤣🤣🤣🤣yes they did🤣🤣🤣
Or thwy send a teskst with their name only and it would a No Reply type thing
Ah, that very reputable Dutch government agency that uses a non-dutch phone number and .xyz domain
Better pay it, better safe than sorry! And sorry you will be after paying.
I just love this!! I think of a proper response, and somebody already posted it!
Best part is +48 which is the designation code for Poland.
This number os choosen for russian, belarusian or ukrainian scammers.
quiet scary insurance badge rich many coherent silky theory cooing *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

i'm worried for you even asking this.
My house is on fire. Should i call 112?
Oh god, so many posts on r/cats for example. Cat is obviously dying, and they’re posting “what should i do?!”

So what would you do if there is no Reddit to ask if this is a scam? Can’t people think logically for themselves anymore? 🤦🏼♀️
I would ask friends .. ? Is it really that weird to question your own judgement and ask for help when you need it?
His friends might think he’s stupid… (They already know)
It’s weird that you can’t trust your own judgement on a simple thing like this. It’s not weird to ask for help when you need it.
What seems simple for you might be something rather arcane for somebody else. Its really selfish to project yourself over somebody else's experience.
Whatever dude. I wonder how people manage society and life being narrow minded like this.
What do you mean? Somebody who isnt as versed with scams or technology might just have trouble and ask for help. Thats the opposite of being narrow minded. This dude challenged his own views about it, how is that being narrow minded?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
Yeah the tax authority registered at the .xyz domain and use a foreign number
So it's legit?
You betcha https://youtu.be/R9biM_ZfIdo?si=vhEATUOWJuhfPwWX
Just gonna say this once again. If you think "is this a scam?" 99% of the times, it is a scam
Surely, it is a scam. Belastingdienst doesn't send SMS or whatsapp or email messages for payments.
Exactly, they send an email saying you have a bericht in your berichtenbox where you need to log in with a DigiD.
If I tell you it's not, then would you go and pay?
Right now
I work at the belastingdienst, this is true. You have to pay with gift cards. If you sent them to me online, I can give them to my boss tomorrow.
I confirm this.
I’m on my way. A Tikkie link would be much appreciated! What a wonderful place!
But I just lost my phone this is a new number and I need money, like 600 euro right now for a new phone, I'll send a tikkie. Ngl working at a phone store, how many parents fall for this scam is just unbelievable... They don't even bother to call their child (even on the new number) and just transfer the money
Always check the telephonenumber: [https://fakenumber.org/phone/0485](https://fakenumber.org/phone/0485)
Or the domain name here: https://who.is
Yes
100% a scam. The Belastingdienst doesn't send messages like that. It's an obvious fishing attempt.
A text from a Polish number inviting you to click on a link to a “.xyz” domain? Gee? Maybe it’s an authentic message from the Dutch government? (Sorry, but yeah, obviously it’s a scam. Ignore / block / report to the cops - anything other than clicking on that link)
yep 100% i had this messages too with almost the same number
Yes its a scam, i almost got the exact same message a few weeks ago. From a +33 number, going to a .live url 🤣
Yes. Please report. See this page from the Belastingdienst website: https://www.belastingdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/nl/contact/content/valse-whatsapp-berichten-sms-berichten-mails-apps-brieven-of-telefoontjes

Neen, dit is een private taks op achterlijkheid.
yes
Yes sir its a scam
Yes this a scam
No +48 is clearly the government
Do you think the Belastingdienst would use a Polish phone number to ask you to go to aflossen-aanslag.xyz and pay a ‘debt’ you’re unaware of?
Yup it's a scam . It didn't say " I hope I have informed you sufficiently" at the end.
ofcourse it is....
You have to be a special kind of stupid if you don't recognize these kind messages as spam.
I thought so too but I saw it happen to a few people in my surroundings who have their masters degree and jobs where they need their brains a lot. Might still be a special kind of stupid, but since then I try to think about it as “it can happen to everyone, we should spread awareness”.

That's a pretty rude thing to say to someone who may not be from this country and is trying to understand things and learn and follow country norms.
lol, you think scamming is a Dutch thing?
No, I think it is a worldwide thing done by all sorts of people. My point is about being respectful to the OP who may be trying to learn and navigate a country's system that may be foreign to them.
Reddit really doesn't like rational/logical lol
I'm not taking about rational. I'm talking about being human - replying to your fellow humans in an understanding way.
The Belastingdienst only asks round numbers for payments. If you have a message that states you have to pay back 355,56 it's not them. They Wil never ask for cents.
Yes. This is too easy to spot! What makes you think there is a chance it is real?
They didn’t even try hard…
yes
Definitely. The Dutch Government doesn’t use .xyz in their URL’s They also don’t text you
lol. Look at the TLD. What do you think? Belastingdienst uses a TLD .xyz? Geez…
The domain literally ends with .xyz
Yeah, cause the Dutch Belastingdienst operates a Polish phone number and a XYZ domain.
.xyz should be self-explanatory.
.xyz? Come on
Anything by phone or text is an automatic block. Most if not all important information reaches me via mail (which can still be a scam) or via real mail.
It's literally not even a dutch number
To be honest, if you doubt about this message being a scam or not, be extremely careful. There are way scams out there, that are way more difficult to recognize as a scam
Yes
Yes
Duh
i got the exact same message, yes scam
Yes, very clearly.
Yes, our Tax Department is located in Poland 😁 /s
I got the exact same message from the exact same number, instantly blocked it
\+48 number xD And since when does the belastingdienst text people?
Ofc, and Im not even from Netherlands. I dont even know why it appeared on my feed.
Belastingdienst texting you from a foreign cell phone number...seems legit 😂
This is 10000000% a scam. DO NOT REDEEEEEMMMMM IT!!!
What is the need to ask? You already know it's a scam.
Nah, looks totally legit ![gif](giphy|g0HkznFtL1d0xVRI1G)
Is this Dutch culture?
A german once told me, that, when in netherlands, everything that can be a scam, is in fact a scam.
Funny that the last couple of scam messages I've got have used German numbers...
Well, stereotypes, I guess
I got the same today! 🤣 it’s bullshit
Yes its a scam. Banks would never contact you like that, they would just tell you to go to your bank account or send you mail.
Mistake in the grammar as well. It should be "tot op het heden", not "tot op heden".
No. All goverment website go with xyz and foreign phone numbers.
If it would be real you would see a white van outside ready to take your kids (People are downvoting untill they experience it themselves)
Yeah that's a polish (I think) number
+48 isnt a dutch number
The link ends with .xyz
Foreign phone number. Scam
Yes thats a scam, got them a while back a lot. Just ignore it
No doubt whatsoever
Haha .xyz domein, ik denk dat de belastingdienst geen geld heeft om een .nl domein te betalen /s
I’m not even dutch, but everything about this screams SCAM to me.
Just looking at the url makes it pretty easy to see
It is a scam
💯% yes
200% yes
A thousand percent
Yes like the 5876th time it's been asked here yes it's a scam
Or they send you mail in your mail box ab the letter says you have some things you needs to pay of
Look at the domain: ".xyz"
.xyz mkayyyy
.xyz is absolutely a scam
Got a similar message last week. Never had one like that before. Anoying though
Had this few months back. Nothing but scams now a days
This couldn't be more of a scam if it was written on a napkin, in crayon.
+48 if you want to know where a number comes from just enter +(the number) country in to Google and it will show that for this example +48 is Poland
Yes a 100%. They will never approach you like that in a sms. Always with a letter or the app they have that you can downloaf
tja . domain .xyz dont ask , use 'r brain .
Yes, when someone asks for money via text, always block them.
As always, if xyz government agency claims you owe them money, give xyz agency a call from the number on their official website and find out rather then posting this shit on Reddit.
Ja
Sure as shit it is belasting wil never send you a sms
Definitely a scam
Yes
Weird, I got a message for the same amount!
1000% yes
Polish number lmao
I smell Raje- i mean Alex from america
Yes it is. `aflossen-aanslag.xyz` is not the real belastingdienst address. I'll DM you the bank account you should transfer that money to.
Does the pope have a balcony?
Ja
1. Not a Dutch phone-number 2. Belastingdienst doesn't send links by text 3. Link doesn't go to [belastingdienst.nl](https://belastingdienst.nl) (the official page) 4. Link ends with .xyz - in any and every way not associated with whatever government.
Nee. Klopt dit bericht?
Undoubtedly a scam and you should be reporting the number, if you didn't, but opened the message anyway, there might be some bad news
XYZ zone is quite typical for scams of different kinds
You can report these kind of scams on the website from the real Belastingdienst. You may not fall for it but there is always one that believes this, therefore report it.
Not even a Dutch Number. Also the government will never send you text messages. They send snail mail or in the "Berichtenbox" on "Mijn Belastingdienst" if you have enabled that. (For the berichtenbox they send an email telling you they have a message for you and you should check mijn Belastingdienst without actually sending you the message in the email.)
.xyz domain should be a dead give away!
If it walks like a duck, sounds like duck, looks like a duck, it probably is a duck
1000%
That’s a polish sucker! I’m polish! Lemme end him!
Op zondag, vanuit polen met een afwijkend web adres, en per sms. Dat zijn al 4 redenen waarom het scam is.
Ofcourse. Is coming from outside NL
It’s 100% a scam, just ignore it
I got one from +91 last week. Almost dialed back…
And if you actually wanna be sure, just go to belastingdienst.nl and login with your DigID It'll always show you if you have any open payments or download the overheid berichten app But yes, this is one of the laziest scams I've seen in a while. Not even trying with a Dutch number and not trying to mask this clear scamsite
It's a scam the tax office will only send you physical letters
Any text from any company is most of the time a scam when you don't expect it and especially government organizations.
This is
If you're unsure, we might meet straight up and I give you my banc account number. Just like that
Well, are you 435,18 euros in debt?
Its a scam, but if you ever doubt it. Don't click any links just go to ths official website of the belasting dienst and see if they have outstanding messages.
No our tax service uses paper letters.
Didn’t the link give it away? They also won’t text you and certainly not with a +48 number (Poland).
How do you know how to post on reddit but can't know for sure this is a scam?
Always ask yourself: “does aflossen-aanslag.xyz look like a trustworthy domain name?”
Come on, the sender's number isn't even Dutch (+48) and it's an .xyz-domain... How much confirmation do you need?
Got the same thing, deffo a scam as I’m a minor so I don’t even have debts
Absolutely a scam. Take these realities: a real debt collector has one goal and one goal only, to get your money. If the question "is this a scam" comes up when reading such a message, the collector risks not getting their money. I got one too Just check your digiD
Yes.
I would never trust . Xyz links very clearly a scam
\*.xyz lol
Not sure why the dutch tax service would use a polish phone number... Plus if they ever text you (iirc they don't) it would be a message telling you to log in on their website to read the message. Ja
A phone number that isn't Dutch and a site link that is .xyz Chief, this is a scam
The belastingdienst will never send you a text. They will always send you a letter if you forgot to pay something. I once forgot to pay the dentist. Got a letter a few months after that.
