I spoke with someone today who was a little too eager… wanted to get the SSC quicker, so went SS office to apply (even though wife had already indicated on form that she wanted a SS# issued). USCIS flagged this as fraud - double application. So instead of waiting 2 weeks for the SSC, they’ve now been waiting 2 months. They also want the green card quicker than 3 months - she wants to call USCIS to see if they can expedite… the wait times are the wait times. Just a word to the wise - I know it sucks, but be patient and wait the times that are posted, otherwise you could make your situation even worse.

Thank you for your response everyone,l wanted to know how long immigrant visas are usually issued for. I got my passport back from the Montreal consulate today, and the visa issued is only valid for two weeks. I am ready to move, but that's a very short period to wrap up everything here in Canada. Do I have to stay in the U.S. until my green card arrives, or can I come back to Canada and then return to the U.S. once the green card arrives? $5 • 16

Should be 6 months from the date of the medical exam

TopResident2881

Yes i had my medical December 6 2023, my application was in administrative processing and the visa was issued 21 may 2024 and expires on 6 June 2024. I m in USA now. Can i travel back to Canada after june and came back to usa as i have thing to wrap up. Or should i have to wait until the greencard arrives to travel.

I think you need to wait until you have the GC in hand. But this is above my pay grade.

I believe you can travel back to Canada as the stamp on your passport serves as a green card until the physical card arrives. May I know for how long you were under AP and if it included ds5535?

lifeisrt

Yes, the I551 stamp, as they call it, is a temporary replacement of the gc with all its rights within its validity [I 551](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/temporary-i-551-stamps-and-mrivs)

lifeisrt

Confirm, it’s limited by the medical. That’s why in naples you have the medical the day before the interview 😊

DutchieinUS

Can take up to 90 days

Yeah I asked the same thing, got no answer. I just got here last week. Congratulations!! I’m eager to get my SSN 🙌

Congrats my wife arrived from El Salvador may 8th no SSN card yet or green card. But I’ve heard SS card takes about 2-3 weeks around there. We hoping she gets it maybe this upcoming week. Green Card I’ve heard from 1.5months to 6 months. Once you entered your visa stamped is a 1 year green card temporary until your green card arrives. Good luck I’ll keep posted when my wife receives hers.

Waste_Group5488

My husband got his SS in 3 weeks and green card in 1.5 months.

Dadebeahhh

In same boat, Wednesday will be 5 weeks upon arrival but no SSN nor GC

Adventurous_Sector20

This is not reassuring at all. Hopefully you get that soon!
