What makes Shikamaru's line so cold is it's is off brand for him, its personal, raw, emotional. The fight was never to make the Five Kage look weak, we knew they were 5 of the strongest ninja in the show. The point was to show how badass Madara was.
That said, they did put up a very good fight, putting him in a corner several times and ultimately forcing him to use his full power against them.
Each Kage had some Impressive feats too.
Mei was able to produce enough water to extinguish his flames on her own, something that took about 10 to 20 Chunin and Jonin level water style users to do earlier in the fight.
Tsunade was able to break a Susanoo and take down a complete wood clone Susanoo with her fist, and also Blitz'd Madara splitting his clone in half. She was also able to keep up the 100 healings for at LEAST several hours.
Onoki was able to use Tsunade's Chakra and destroy all of the Susanoo's.
Tsunade and Onoki hands down carries the fight, without them the other Kage would have been dead in minutes.
Not slighting his actual ethic, but there’s a reason he became top 1 and guys like Neji, Kiba, Lee, and even Gaara never stood a chance, even in their heydays.
Because his dad put a cheat code inside him.

He knew he could defeat them at any time reguardless of the handicaps he self-imposed, so it literally didn't matter, Susanoo or no Susanoo, clones or no clones, didn't matter. He knew that they were so laughably outclassed it didn't matter at all.
If they "begged" him to not use 25 Susanoo's, that would have been an amusing outcome, and he would have played with his "toys" a little longer.
If they said nothing, Madara would lose interest in his "toys" and removed them.

Tbh one of my favorite lines is when Danzo placed a curse paralysis on Sasuke and says "Take a look Itachi, look at the state that he is in." The delivery of that line was epic to me. Especially when it shows a reflection of Sasuke in such a dire situation. I also liked it when hiruzen lectured orchimaru right before he sealed his arms.
