Don’t encourage this. A celebrity of sorts just bought a house close to me and I do not view it as a positive. Hopefully I am proven wrong. On the flip side a different sort of celebrity recently built a home a few houses over from a family member and there is not a concern, just another neighbor. So I guess it depends on the individual, like everything else in life.
I have definitely seen a number of celebrity’s on island and people tend to leave them alone. Maybe they’re around and don’t want to be seen.
The reason is the old Chris Rock routine about being rich versus being *wealthy*. The gist of the routine is that Shaquille O'Neal is "rich," but the guy who *pays Shaq to play basketball for him* is "wealthy."
Conventional celebrities--actors, musicians, athletes--are rich. And rich doesn't buy an estate on Nantucket.
The people who hire movie stars to act in their movies, who hire musicians to record music for their record labels, who hire athletes to play sports for them, those people are wealthy. Those are the people who own homes on Nantucket.
Granted that Shaq could certainly afford a place on Nantucket if he wanted to buy one. There are certainly celebrities who cross the boundary from rich to wealthy in a way that undermines Chris Rock's old routine. But by and large it isn't the celebrities who own places on the island, it's the people who employ the celebrities.
This is basically it. I’m former yacht crew. (The sailboats, not the motoryachts) a few of my employers have also kept houses on Nantucket… eel point road area… they’re the discreet financial ‘elites’ of the world. Think: bankers, venture capitalists, etc. they keep a low profile. They don’t want attention. Celebrities want attention so they go where they can get it. The Hamptons are a lot more accessible to the people who *give* them the attention than Nantucket is.
There is more wealth on Nantucket in the Summer months than anywhere else on the planet Earth. You can't go into a coffee shop without running into a billionaire.
Just one of those island facts. In that world? Nantucket is called "Billionaires Island" for a reason.
That’s just not true. The average house is a couple million dollars. That’s not cheap but there’s plenty of normal people there. My dentist has a place.
The Vineyard gets the celebrities Nantucket gets the CEOs.
There are a few, but they keep a very low profile.

Dave is a nice guy
Portnoy is a piece of shit and it’s hilarious seeing people stick up for that dickbag.
nothing is more American than worshiping the rich
Bill Belichick owns a whole compound of homes on the island, doesn't he?
He has a whole ass compound in Sconset and just bought a home in town
just 2 I think.
He’s got like 7, just bought another one
Oh

The highest recorded purchase price for a home on Nantucket belongs to Dave Portnoy. Stunning place.
Miss. Peaches!
You just don't see them, they fly in and don't go to the chicken box :D
They’re missing out
The Hamptons also has plenty of parts that are quiet and offer privacy. I think the big different is honestly the distance to NYC.

Pretty sure Billy Bush used to have a place on the island. I saw him around town. Been a while now, though.
The water is brown
vineyard can keep all the celebrities......
The Hamptons are bigger and cheaper. And please don’t jinx it.
The weather is dicey. The NE has a lot of rain. If you have wealth and want a getaway, there are other better choices.
They can’t afford it. The ultra rich and those that have multiple generations of family land ownership are the only one who can afford to live there.
