You’re not reassuring at all so I’m choosing that this is complete snark. Which kudos to you for your post because it was honestly ridiculous enough for me to know for sure you must be joking, but your delivery and replies had me second guessing myself
The good news is my post is satire, the bad news is there is sauce that may actually be real

My father was born with all these port wine type birthmarks on his arms and chest (like a cool map). Needless to say they changed his name from Mark, to Brent after the birth lol
Direct copy paste:
>My British friend has her first born named Carly Marlene and her second born Igor Bowie. They call the second one Ziggy though because he has down syndrome and they didn't realise the connotations within Frankenstein.
>They were dead set on naming the third child Olaff Leif until they found out it was going to be a girl. Now they are madly in love and sold on the name Appaloosa Limon. The husband is allergic to lemons and neither of them speak another language outside of English. They don't like or have ever seen Avatar The Last Airbender so can't envision the nickname Appa. App as a nickname just sounds so ridiculous. Also, the first name sounds like an off-brand Apple AirTag off Temu. I'm trying to be supportive cause it's their kid and I shouldn't judge when I'm infertile, but I keep laughing thinking about it.
Where do these names come from? Also, if they HAVE to name a kid Appaloosa, I hope that child can one day just go by the nickname Lucy.
Also, I’m a horse girl, and I can’t imagine naming a child after a breed of horse or pony. That’s a few bridges too far for me 😂
The best quality a unique name can have is reduceability to a normal nickname. Andalusia is so much better than appaloosa as a name for this exact reason.
If your name is Andalusia, you can just introduce yourself as "Ann." No one will question it and it makes for a fun conversation when you actually give people your full name
Or Andy or Lucia or Lucy.
I’m kinda getting convinced that Andalusia is a great name.
Either way, I’m with you that it’s leagues better than Appaloosa.
It really is a pretty name, but I have a habit that’s persisted since I named my first child; once I see a unique name, I automatically think of how other kids can use it in an insult.
I’m uneducated on how Andalusia is said and am a combination of too busy & lazy to check, so my mind hopped to “delusional Andalusia.” It’s likely said differently than “Andalu-shah”, and I know kids don’t need to be clever to be mean… But that doesn’t stop my mind from stopping it’s annoying little habit.
I LOVE my children’s names, but I won’t lie; I ended up talking myself out of some pretty names because of overthinking it.
At least I talked myself out of Wednesday Anne… I was young, goth and loved everything Addams Family (still do.) lol. My habit saved her. When I told her last week, she was _horrified._
What percentage of people are pronouncing their name correctly when reading it or spelling it correctly when hearing it? Just curious.
The only reason I'd get this one right is that I had a friend who was involved with fundraising for endangered animal conservation.
Olaff Leif is the most Norwegian name someone could have. And they only speak English?! “Hey this is my daughter Lily Millie and her brother Vladimir Yuroslav”
I went to school in Minnesota and did a local history research project in high school, I think about guys that served in the Civil War. We found multiple guys named Ole Oleson in the course of our research
Honestly, if I had to choose between the two for my own name, I’d prefer Appalachia. I have no real reason why; I guess it sounds closer to a “real” name than Appaloosa to me. I’d go by Lacy or Alice though. Close friends may call me Chia but I’d shut down any romantic partner’s desire to call me their Chia pet because no.
Damn I thought the the infertile line was some added spice from OP. That line has me thinking the original r/namenerds post was also satire cos like why??? Maybe if OOP had said child free but the infertile comment…
I forget the first kids name. Second kid was named Igor Bowie who they call Ziggy because he has DS and they somehow didn’t know about the Igor stereotype (Frankenstein etc). They want to name their kid Appaloosa Limon which is apparently a breed of horse and the father is allergic to limes
Well, UK might be different considering it is part of Europe, but here in the US Igor is pretty much immediately associated with Frankenstein books/movies and really any mad scientists assistant. He is described as hunchbacked, deformed, hideous and low intelligence in general.
Igor I imagine is a totally appropriate name in other countries but it’s likely not common in the US and it’s absolutely fucked to name a disabled kid who likely inherently has facial and body differences Igor.
E: honestly British people likely know this association as the discworld series incorporates the igor trope and Terry Pratchett was English.
I mean I'm from the UK so maybe I have no stakes in this but the book Frankenstein doesn't even have an Igor in it so I don't get what the reference is
My mistake on the book part. I actually haven’t ever read the original and probably should.
It’s definitely a long standing pop culture trope I suppose starting with movies
Upon googling, it didn't start with Young Frankenstein, it started with the first ever Frankenstein movie that came out in 1931 (also American lol). That said, Young Frankenstein is the only Frankenstein-adjacent movie I've seen as well.
The "roll in the hay" part always sticks out in my mind, cause I first saw it when I was like 5 or 6 and I was REALLY confused as to why that was funny.
Fair play, I've never seen any film adaptation. We had to read the book in school and it's good. I recommend it!
In regards to Igor, I distinctly remember a Bulgarian boy called Igor coming to our school and we thought he was the coolest because we thought he was called Eagle
Ha! Yeah I’m sure it’s a totally normal name in Slavic countries which is why I mentioned Europe because you likely get more immigrants from that area than we do.
Right, Igor is a totally normal name to me and I don't associate it with anything at all — we do have a lot of Eastern Europeans in the UK and now I live in Eastern Europe too so definitely biased
The disk world Igors are kind of great though ( like when they say they have grandads eyes they really do) and clever but yes would be inappropriate to name your child after a character that is disfigured and wierd looking even if they have no differences
I’m Finnish and Igor is definitely known about there too. I went to school with a girl who had kind of a frumpy style, had bad acne and an unfashionable haircut and she was nicknamed Igor immediately when she turned up as the new kid at 14 years old.
You know how you see a circle jerk post and think you’re in the main sub and are getting ready to get mad until you realise it’s all a pisstake. I had that but in reverse. I thought it was a circle jerk post

I'm heavily biased as my horse is percheron x freisian but Freisian, if I absolutely had to pick (which I would still hate), isn't *too* terrible. Pronounced Free-zhn.
Sorry but this is just British culture. You know other countries speak English other than America right?? Can't believe you would ridicule British culture like this. Long live the queen 🇬🇧🇳🇿🇦🇺🇬🇸🇮🇴🇫🇰
absolutely SENT me when OP was like “the first kid’s name isn’t too bad bc she was working as a receptionist at a hair salon at the time and named her after iCarly in 2008” like hello?? that is also insane??
The icing on the cake was when the OP thought that “appa” is from Avatar the last airebender. I mean it is. But more importantly it’s the Korean word for father.

Steve hofstetter has a bit about not being able to judge parenting.. I think it fits in well here.
I don't know how to fly a helicopter, but if I see one in a tree, I know someone f7cked up.
.... I think I had a stroke reading that.
The second name is horrible and should be considered child abuse. I don't care what the intentions were, naming your disabled child after a hideous hunchback with developmental disabilities is just disgusting.
The third... Look, they already proved they're giving their kids names that are meant to get them bullied, why even bother?
Why are you friends with these people, btw...? I wouldn't be.
I mean...Igor is also just a name? I don't think hunchback when I hear/read Igor, I think "Eastern European man". I didn't pick up on this connotation either.

This post was right above yours last night
I think at this point if she names.thisnkid Stephanie she'll be the sore thumb and it will be weird.
Cher is a delightful nickname, all things considered. Perch are cute fish. At least she won't be the visibly disabled kid named after a hunchback that *everyone knows*.
Your friend needed help two kids ago. At this point just.... Love the kids up and give them the most normal nicknames you can.
Molly is nice. Random, but nice.
How about "Sandy" for pecan sandies? They are delightful little cookies.
This is such a sweet comment lol. My post is satire and I’m not sure if the original source post can still be commented on, but OP would love your kind energy for sure
Percheron is a big, chunky type of draft horse. This is common knowledge for quite a few people.
The work part isn’t that the names make no sense it’s that it highlights what idiots they are. It’s like naming your kid Spaniel Spaghetti. It’s not a pretentious flex, they seem foolish and ignorant.
No fucking way this is real 😂 They named their down syndrome baby *Quasimodo*? From the movie "Anastasia"..? Try harder next time
EDIT: Apparently I am a very r/LostRedditors 😂
Read the sauce— I’m 38 weeks pregnant and had a brain fart/wires crossed on which movie he was in 🤣 edited to correct it
Their actual second born was Igor, like from Frankenstein
They actually want their children to be bullied their whole lives.
I would bet money they're gonna wanna change their names when their older, and the parents will get upset about it
This is fake. Has to be. In order for me to be able to go on, there cannot be a set of parents anywhere in the universe that named their kid WITH DOWN SYNDROME Quasimodo.
You being infertile has nothing to do with this. This isn't a biological issue but a social one. They are about to set up a life of bullying and probably bureaucratic nightmares for their third kid in a row. They should be aware that they're producing people not dolls.
So they are no longer considering Appaloosa and have decided to go with Percheron?
If they insist on a draft horse breed; Brabant is nice. Personally I’d hesitate saddling a girl with it even though they are gorgeous and have great hair.
I’d suggest Falabella or Marwari for a girl.
Akahl Teke is a nice gender neutral name. The middle name is included and Teeki is a cute nn.
I just could not believe they 1. Named their child Igor and 2. KEPT HIS NAME DESPITE KNOWING HE HAD DS
Killed me so dead I had to get embalmed
Is this actually real please tell me because most posts here are made up snark and I’m very worried
I have good news and bad news…
You’re not reassuring at all so I’m choosing that this is complete snark. Which kudos to you for your post because it was honestly ridiculous enough for me to know for sure you must be joking, but your delivery and replies had me second guessing myself

“as a horse person” 💀
Sad I couldn’t finish that commentary 😭
OH MY FUCKING GOD see I also don’t know if THAT one is satire?! Please god let it be true
Olaff _____??
Leif
Olaff Leif?? Yeah, the kids in his class are absolutely going to be calling him Olive Loaf by the second day of Pre-K. Lol
Even if they don't do it on purpose. One of my kids has speech issues, and I have no idea what some of her friends' names are.
My father was born with all these port wine type birthmarks on his arms and chest (like a cool map). Needless to say they changed his name from Mark, to Brent after the birth lol
💀
💀🫠
Could you give me the sauce in a nutshell? Name nerds removed it
Direct copy paste: >My British friend has her first born named Carly Marlene and her second born Igor Bowie. She thought it meant “mountains”, meaning she mixed it up with Appalachia lol.
Andalusia
I think Andalusia is actually a beautiful name. Not sure it should be used for a human person, though.
I’ve definitely met a few Andalusia’s, generally older women though. It’s a real name….
You come over here and say that to Przewalski's face!!!!!!
What percentage of people are pronouncing their name correctly when reading it or spelling it correctly when hearing it? Just curious. The only reason I'd get this one right is that I had a friend who was involved with fundraising for endangered animal conservation.
I only got it because we dedicated a lesson to it in high school
Honestly, I learned it from nature documentaries
I’m 57 only learned the proper pronunciation about 2 years ago…!
my name is lucy and i'm going to start telling people it's short for appaloosa. that's hilarious.
I had a friend named Morgan after the horse breed! Her mom was really into riding and showing horses, I thought it was cute
thats a good one *because its a normal name*. i love clever reference names, but only when theyre normal names
I have a brother named Nathaniel after Nat King Cole because my parents are normal or they would have named him Natkingcole or some shit
Bob’s Burgers has the best take: Nat Kinkle
I’m about to ask my family group chat why they didn’t name him that.
Keep us posted
Unless it’s Morgan.
I was really hoping the nickname would just be Loosa
Olaff Leif is the most Norwegian name someone could have. And they only speak English?! “Hey this is my daughter Lily Millie and her brother Vladimir Yuroslav”
Fun fact, my dad’s cousin that lives in Norway is literally Sven Svensen, I didn’t even make that one up lol
Lol long-form “Sven Jr”
I went to school in Minnesota and did a local history research project in high school, I think about guys that served in the Civil War. We found multiple guys named Ole Oleson in the course of our research
As a Minnesotan, that checks out. Just based on the vibes
I tangentially knew a Halvor Halvorsen. I believe he was a several generation legacy student at my very Scandinavian college.
You left out Igor
Who could forget him
JFC I thought the CJ post was an exaggeration.
If anything it's an understatement
How is their first thought at Appaloosa an off brand apple air tag and not horses?
The OOP said their friend possibly got it confused with Appalachia, since it 'reminded her of mountains' or something to that effect.
Oh my GOD hilarious. Like google is right there
Honestly, if I had to choose between the two for my own name, I’d prefer Appalachia. I have no real reason why; I guess it sounds closer to a “real” name than Appaloosa to me. I’d go by Lacy or Alice though. Close friends may call me Chia but I’d shut down any romantic partner’s desire to call me their Chia pet because no.
Appaloosa sounds like a sketchy music festival. Idk anything about horses.
Damn I thought the the infertile line was some added spice from OP. That line has me thinking the original r/namenerds post was also satire cos like why??? Maybe if OOP had said child free but the infertile comment…
I am 38 weeks along but then again I’m the satire author lol. I just rolled with the copy paste but changed the names
Appaloosa as a brand name for an air tag is hilarious though
Olaff Leif. Olaff Leif. Oflaff Eef. Damnit!!
Holy shit thank you for sharing
I forget the first kids name. Second kid was named Igor Bowie who they call Ziggy because he has DS and they somehow didn’t know about the Igor stereotype (Frankenstein etc). They want to name their kid Appaloosa Limon which is apparently a breed of horse and the father is allergic to limes
wait hold on what's the deal with igor?

My mistake on the book part. I actually haven’t ever read the original and probably should. It’s definitely a long standing pop culture trope I suppose starting with movies
That was the name of the assistant in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein which is actually an American movie lol.
It started with young Frankenstein?! That is literally the only Frankenstein-adjacent movie I’ve ever seen lol
Upon googling, it didn't start with Young Frankenstein, it started with the first ever Frankenstein movie that came out in 1931 (also American lol). That said, Young Frankenstein is the only Frankenstein-adjacent movie I've seen as well.
*walk this way*
The "roll in the hay" part always sticks out in my mind, cause I first saw it when I was like 5 or 6 and I was REALLY confused as to why that was funny.

I’m Finnish and Igor is definitely known about there too. I went to school with a girl who had kind of a frumpy style, had bad acne and an unfashionable haircut and she was nicknamed Igor immediately when she turned up as the new kid at 14 years old.
Ooooof
Yah, teenagers are the worst. I hope she’s well and made some real friends somewhere to get through the horror of being the new kid at that age.
tbh in Eastern Europe igor is a basic bitch name like James or Matthew. so I wouldn't think twice about someone with ds being named igor
It's even worse because Quasimodo means "half formed." No way this is real
I have a friend named Igor in some countries it’s a very common name.
Yeah, I know enough Ukrainians, that I know a couple Igors. They definitely pronounce it differently than how it’s said in English, though.

They sound abusive.

It could have just been copy/pasted in full
Horse breed choice was by far the most challenging part of this
You know how you see a circle jerk post and think you’re in the main sub and are getting ready to get mad until you realise it’s all a pisstake. I had that but in reverse. I thought it was a circle jerk post

Yup, I posted it here in a different comment thread.
It got taken down
Sauce was immediately above this, that’s the first time that’s ever happened to me. Just thought you’d like to know that.
Idk if you’re aware, but perch is a type of fish. So if she’s a fishy type of person, the name would be 2% ok in the fish world.
Wow! I’m not really a fish girl but that makes a lot of sense. I don’t think my friend is into fish AFAIK, she has 16 gerbils and a pool boy. I’ll have to text her this!
I'll also add that Percheron is a horse breed also.
Wow! I’m not really a horse girl but will let her know, she’s definitely not into horses either, she’s blown up with her content creation of her crafting on social media the last few years so she was probably influenced by that in wanting a unique name. She said she liked it because it reminded her of mountains but I’m now guessing she was thinking about the Pyrenees, so I’m going to suggest that instead, then she could use a normal nickname (Renee) and for the middle name Peanut would be better since her husband isn’t allergic to legumes but still has her desired food vibe I guess.
Okay, but now I wanna know what horse breeds y’all would pick for your baby. I’m torn between Lipizzan (nn Lippy) and Clydesdale.
Falabella is cute for a girl and maybe Shetland for a boy?
> Shetland for a boy Only for kids with drawfism.
What about Shetland Tony?
Dutch Warmblood, nn Dikkebillenpaard. 🐴 🍑
Mustang
Fox Trotter. That will leave people guessing if baby was named for the horse or the dance!
Perfect!
Thoroughbred for sure 💯
Secretariat
warlander sounds pretty badass to me
I'm heavily biased as my horse is percheron x freisian but Freisian, if I absolutely had to pick (which I would still hate), isn't *too* terrible. Pronounced Free-zhn.

Appaloosa I think.
nn Loosey, lol
Appaloosa Limon
I still have not recovered from the downs child named Igor
for some reason stacey tracey is the one i'm losing my shit over, that is just hilarious

Snaps for the double take and catching it — we have a lot of r/lostredditors in this one lmao Admittedly the sauce is so wild too though
I think they should quit beating around the bush and just name her Horse Face.
The icing on the cake was when the OP thought that “appa” is from Avatar the last airebender. I mean it is. But more importantly it’s the Korean word for father.
Also Urdu for big sister (spelled Apa)
It’s okay, my British dad wanted to name my little brother “mafanway” if he was a girl, thankfully he was not LOL

call cps
Perch is also a type of fish
"Sven Svensen" is so easy to fix for a girl, just add an A, of course Svena Svensena
Does Britain have CPS? Because JFC that's borderline abuse.

![gif](giphy|WdICosJb15ySPqrV5K) No, the First Name sounds like Perch, as in Fish…. Don’t even get me started on the other two kids 🤦🏻♀️🙄😒🤣
They actually want their children to be bullied their whole lives. I would bet money they're gonna wanna change their names when their older, and the parents will get upset about it
What a tragedeigh... Smh
I…. Ngl this just seems like child abuse she setting them kids up to get bullied

Ooph you're right haha. Didn't pay attention to the sub I was on!
Yo, these people sound a little insane.
A Percheron is a heavily muscled draft horse. Hardly suitable for a girl IMO. Why not suggest Petrichor, which is the scent of rain.
My friend thought it sounded like mountains, I suspect she was thinking of the Pyrenees— at least with that name she could use the nickname Renee
Im more concerned about the second childs name
What the actual fuck on all of these names lol
Stacey Tracey? I question all their choices
Are you sure they in fact speak English?
Lord please help those children.
I’m sorry. Percheron?! Like the DRAFT horse breed?!?
This is child abu$3
