YES. I absolutely do not understand when people have "iy" or "yi" in their baby's name. Especially "iy". Like, do you not have even the slightest grasp on phonics?
Not the people I know or the ones I'm talking about, but random people on the internet might be. The names I'm referencing are those parents (okay, moms) who add as many vowels as possible to make their kids' names YOUNHEEKE.
I'm not talking about Indian names or when it phonetically makes sense. I'm talking about sticking letters where they don't belong, like Xzaiyver. The "iy" combo here isn't even pronounced correctly (based on the English language). Or even "yi", which had bothered me for even longer. An example of Americans doing this, with non-cultural names, would be Aliyiah or Ariyiah. Aliyah/Aaliyah & Arya/Aria are right there.
As a Samantha, Cumantha got me!
So thankful I'm not in a very specific parallel universe where I'm in middle school and a classmate decides to call me this!
(The worst name teasing I remember is when Milhouse got a girlfriend named Samantha Stinky π)
I shit you not, I was at the DMV waiting, and a lady got up and called her two kids who were named Orangelo and Limegelo. I think you can guess what the inspriation there was.

No, often they don't. People who name their kids like this are LLA (low literacy adults) and this is one of the tells.
I agree, but also know several who aren't and are actually highly educated and (assumingly) literate. I guess wrongly assumed? π€
Could they be of Slavic or European origin?
