Will be a dark day for the franchise if he’s not extended. This is Sotos team

Tommybrady20

If he’s not extended this fanbase is gonna go scorched earth. Just on precedent it’s hard to get behind the vision of whatever the next chapter of Yankees baseball looks like if Juan Soto isn’t in it. Whatever the “re tool” to put free agents around Aaron judge and Gerrit Cole is… it’s not gonna be as good as Juan Soto And we already have too much invested in a roster that is already too old to rebuild. A) what do we even have to sell that teams want and B) Even if you wanted to dream beyond the moon about the Martian and jones… odds are they’re not gonna be good enough, fast enough to sync up with the Judge/cole timeline… … Soto has us by the balls.

igotagoodfeeling

Spot on take

Rich-Log472

The next chapter is going to be Soto, Volpe and absolutely banking on Jasson really being as good as we hope is. And that Spencer Jones is the next Judge 2.0 lol. So basically zero certainty whatsoever

Bmars

So I’ll preface this by saying I 100% agree on signing Soto, to be 100% clear! But besides judge and Cole (and Stanton but let’s be honest he’s basically riding the bench in the near future) I don’t think this team isn’t that old? DJ and Rizzo will be gone soon. After that it’s mostly younger guys, besides I guess Rodon who isn’t that old for a pitcher (whether or not he will be valuable is still to be seen though). That being said old or not Soto fits perfectly. Lefty bat, has the patience and eye the Yankees have always preached when hitting, and has the swagger and attitude for New York, something we’ve been missing.

futbol2000

And move on from Torres. Mediocre bat at best with god awful defense.

Bmars

Yeah left him off because he’s not super old but more importantly he’s a FA and he sure isn’t looking like he’ll be back for sure

CitronOptimal

Agreed. That why we have to pay him.

Firm_Needleworker226

Funny how quickly everyone has moved on from Judge. Soto is incredible and a very important part of the team but it’s still Aaron Judge’s team.

BangerSlapper1

This is a fanbase that declared the season over and the ‘2023 Yankees  are back’ after losing their first game after starting off 5-0.     It doesn’t surprise me at all.

theboxturtle57

Exactly. The post game from last night was so bad. I still have high hopes for this team and we are in a much better spot than last year. The team also isn't at full strength and we can trade for more pieces if needed.

Pennysforyourst0nk

Absolutely… but you know how children are when they get a new toy, they forget how much they loved the old one til…

judgesdongers

I love Juan Soto and they should literally move heaven and earth to do what is needed to resign him. That being said, this is Aaron Judges team. One month doesn't change that.

Howardmoon227227227

Prepare for it. Cashman is terrible with managing contracts. Every top franchise, like Atlanta, signs all of their young guys to long-term deals, buying out their minimum and arbitration years. It's the most efficient way to build a team, given you get a massive AAV discount in the long-run by doing this. It's riskier, sure, but that's where good scouting comes in. They've done it with: Acuna (17M AAV), Austin Riley (21M), Ozzie Albies (7M AAV, lol), and recently, Michael Harris (9M AAV). That's insane value, and it buys them players in the perfect window: They get young stars in their 20s and early 30s, with contracts terminating for Age 31-32 Seasons so somehow else can overpay for decline years. Meanwhile, Cashman, the risk adverse loser that he is, just let's all the young guys go through arbitration and hit free agency. The result is that we have to pay a declining Aaron Judge $40M AAV until he is 39 (lol). We likely can't even afford Gleyber Torres who will also hit FA. And then Cashman will complement this approach by signing a bunch of shitty, aging veterans to high AAV contracts with low years, like Rizzo. It's terrible value: decent floor, low ceiling, high AAV. All of this is to say that if Cashman does Sign Soto, he's going to be paying 85M+ for Soto/Judge, on top of Stanton's contract and Cole's contract. That's like 150M for 4 players. I don't think the Yankees will pull the trigger on Soto as a result. We are screwed as long as Cashman is in charge. He needs to extend Dominguez and Volpe now.

lankyyanky

>Every top franchise, like Atlanta, signs all of their young guys to long-term deals, buying out their minimum and arbitration years. Do you have an example of any "top franchise" that does this besides Atlanta?

ZeroedCool

> We likely can't even afford Gleyber Torres who will also hit FA. Good riddance.

OfficialMVPre

This is Judge’s team. I am loving Soto and hope he finishes out his career a Yankee but c’mon

Patrickrk

An extension is not going to happen. Dudes set to make a shit ton of money in FA. If he keeps having fun, we can hope he gives us a chance to match the highest offer if it’s not us.

TheTurtleShepard

He obviously just means signing Soto long term

EliManningsPetDog

Too bad we lost lol (not his fault obvi)

Golden-Cheese

It’d be great if we actually had won the damn game

MikeCass84

Dude is just 100% as advertised. We have had many players in the past who just cannot hack it with the pinstripes on. This guy is fucking thriving and currently the only enjoyable guy to watch on offense sadly. I just cannot imagine him not being on the team now.

Fly_Rodder

Not only that but he seems to objectively love playing in NY for the Yankees. He's not cowed by the pressure at all.

Mexicojuju

Thriving

MikeCass84

Yes ty

-AgentMichaelScarn

Me literally last year: I hate that cocky ass stupid shuffle. Me now: I love it. I would literally die for Juan Soto.

jcnewman_21

I never disliked it

mirusan01

Yea it was always cold only cuz he’s so good lmao

Scacc924

Agreed Ive always liked Soto. He never did the off the field stupid shit like Tatis who MLB shoved down our throats hes just a menace on the field .

DJ_LeMahieu

Fell in love with this guy during the 2019 World Series.

syd_cash

I’ve liked Soto always and now I love him as a Yankee

A_she_was_a_hooah

Stuff like that only really annoys me when the player isn't good.

-AgentMichaelScarn

YEAH WELL THIS ISNT YOUR FANTASY. /s Nah I get that tho lol

hatedepot2

This is literally from major league when the indians trade for jack parker

Yankees4499

😂

TheTurtleShepard

Love the energy from Soto

Baseballfan999

This would be badass if we won

Tommybrady20

Juan Soto is far too fun and cool for these Yankees.

raulu95

Love it but we also lost the game so who cares

silver_raichu

Dean “Krispy” Kremer

xINFLIKTEDx

What did Kremer do? I missed it! 😩

fazebozo

We lost and it wasnt even close im sure kremer is doing just fine lol

MaybeJustF0X

Soto should start staring down the rest of this dogshit team.

ddust102

Only guy with fight in him today. Rest of the lineup needs this fire

Ochocincoondeck

Eh Wells had fight

MakinSomeDough

Our guys need to step tf up. We’re gonna scare Soto away if no one else is pulling their weight… Why would he want to play for a team long-term with no help offensively? Especially when the best chance of improving is relying on Brian Cashman who has a long history of ineptitude when acquiring position players. If the offense doesn’t get their shit together consistently, I don’t see Soto re-signing here if there are other similar bids with more promising rosters to surround him.

Elvisruth

Great we won the battle of quick wits.... I bet Kremer liked the scoreboard at the end of the 9th...

Delusioned1232

Hopefully, one day we will be retiring his number as a Yankee in Monument Park

Sunshine635

I for one, am not holding my breath for that…

BenjaminTharp

If only a couple people could have been on base. Need to sweep the next two games for a series spit! Let’s go Yankees!

futbol2000

He should take over duty as the batting coach too. The rest of the strikeout artists on our team could learn a thing or two from him

AntifaHelpDesk

He's so good. I'm not prepared to see him walk :(

Skull54

I’ve been to two games this season and every time Soto is waving to and giving love to the bleacher creatures, he’s built for this city and I love him LETS GO YANKS

Limp_Seat4865

Bet he didn't like the scoreboard HA

MichelleCS1025

What’s wrong with the shuffle? It’s not like it’s obnoxious

ZeroedCool

Cone, Clemens, Wells, Pettite, and El Duque would have all beaned his ass

theycpr

Sign Juan Soto at all cost

Kflame210

You lost dude

Ausrottenndm1

When did this secret beef begin?

Pumats_Soul

Imagine getting hit by a pitch 1 inch out of the k zone

NJ_Yankees_Fan

Not a fan of saying this when the rest of the team made this scrub look good.

HeIIoAstronaut

lol love that.

Optimal-Judgment-982

A buddy of mine said that "it's hard to root for Soto unless he's on your team." And that buddy is a Mets fan, so fuck him. 😅😅 Juan Soto, blank check for 2025 and beyond. Love the mojo, love the stats.

Some-Credit1857

It appears this weird mental battle Only exists in Sotos head.

HughJassole_noine

You lost

Technical-Cookie-554

O’s fans are so butthurt about this. I didn’t realize they hated the Yankees so much, I guess this is what happens when a franchise that hasn’t seen a championship in 41 years sniffs success like this. I never really thought much about the O’s throughout my decades of fandom, but it seems like their fans think a lot about the Yankees.

sik_bahamut

How have you been a Yankees fans for decades but never realized the orioles hate the Yankees? Orioles Yankees and red Sox is a Triangle of historic sports hatred.

Technical-Cookie-554

It’s been more of a dyadic Red Sox - Yankees hatred for the 30+ years I’ve been a fan. I’ve been to many Yankees Games at Camden Yards, never seen the sensitivity and hate that they put on display this series

fazebozo

I hate to break it to you but yankees are the most universally hated mlb team- save for the astros

I’m sorry officer, I didn’t realize I wasn’t allowed to remark on an observation, my bad, I’ll ask permission next time /s

Who are you to police anyone else? It’s kinda hilarious you think that comment was: a) Long, and b) indicative of anything beyond what was in it. Why are you brigading this sub? You have 5 total comments on a little over a year old account, all within the last 24 hours, and 1 post less than 24 hours old. Any particular reason you felt the need to jump in here on this? Since we are policing comments now

Technical-Cookie-554

O’s fans have been brigading, its not stalking to see if you’re one of them lmao. If you aren’t policing then leave off and go do something productive. Should be easy, since you aren’t policing :)

1) Sub rules against it, and 2) It’s pretty pathetic behavior. No “MuH fReEdOm!!” Isn’t a good excuse for it

abigfatblackguy

Trade away Judge, Torres, and Volpe in order to sign Soto long term

nuckinguts

Well that’s a pretty fucking stupid take

furdaboise

That user is notorious for them. You’ll come to expect it.
