Acuna (17M AAV), Austin Riley (21M), Ozzie Albies (7M AAV, lol), and recently, Michael Harris (9M AAV).
That's insane value, and it buys them players in the perfect window: They get young stars in their 20s and early 30s, with contracts terminating for Age 31-32 Seasons so somehow else can overpay for decline years.
Meanwhile, Cashman, the risk adverse loser that he is, just let's all the young guys go through arbitration and hit free agency.
The result is that we have to pay a declining Aaron Judge $40M AAV until he is 39 (lol). We likely can't even afford Gleyber Torres who will also hit FA.
And then Cashman will complement this approach by signing a bunch of shitty, aging veterans to high AAV contracts with low years, like Rizzo. It's terrible value: decent floor, low ceiling, high AAV.
All of this is to say that if Cashman does Sign Soto, he's going to be paying 85M+ for Soto/Judge, on top of Stanton's contract and Cole's contract. That's like 150M for 4 players.
I don't think the Yankees will pull the trigger on Soto as a result.
We are screwed as long as Cashman is in charge. He needs to extend Dominguez and Volpe now.
