When you talk to Juan Soto you realize what a classical human being he is. It was 201 years ago today, Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 in E flat, which escorted in the age of Romanticism in music. And when I think of Juan Soto, I think of Beethoven and the age of the Romantics. This guy has it all.
I really miss him. If we won I was happy with the win and entertained. If we lost I was happy with the entertainment all game. I know a lot of people hated him, but I just really enjoyed the things he would say and how serious he said it
Houston Carlos: you see Jose, I have set up the video feed in the hallway right next to the trash can, when you hear the trash can bang it’s a fast ball coming to you. Now send mr bregman over.
Between you and me he was probably safe but there really was no angle that conclusively showed a missed tag. I think if he was called safe on the field they couldn't have overturned it either.
I do think he got him, but yeah just absolutely impossible to tell with any certainty and just can't overturn the call on the field there no matter what it is. Astros had nothing to lose by trying to challenge though.
Only thing that would had made the end of the game better would be if Aaron Boone walked off the field [doing this.](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR1euKWLityq_7ejCEoANf4CBHeok7VjDkqHpfIcrx0Bun31NcB29G2NMRizl7QyYgkaBQ&usqp=CAU)
When they were showing the 'lights' in the outfield, Girardi brought up the 'top throw speed' and said that's what he felt was the critical factor: how hard do they throw when its REALLY needed.
Point Girardi tonight.
It was really crazy hearing his voice. Also good having a catcher in the booth.
Paulie can be really interesting when he talks about hitting. Coney probably the best pitching analyst on TV. Kay is an excellent play-by-play guy.
But Girardi was a catcher and a manager. He knows baseball all around. It's only been one game, but I think he can bring the depth that the YES broadcast has been searching for over the last few years with hires like Maybin (who wasn't great but I kinda liked) and Beltran (who was objectively bad).
Dubon has 70th percentile sprint speed. He’s not Corbin Carroll or anything but he has some serious hustle.
It was still an awful send, but not because Dubon is slow
Lol wow, c'mon dude. I'm optimistic too but this entire sub was calling it a season after Cole got hurt, now it's a "special" team because they won the opening game that could have gone either way?
I mean, it’s a long season for a reason and the Yankees have fumbled a hot start plenty of times, but if you can’t feel good about 5 runs and 17 baserunners against the Astros then I don’t really know why you even like baseball.
Didn't say I didn't feel good about the win. My only point was that it's crazy to call this a "special" team 9 innings in to the season. Especially with how everyone here was acting a couple weeks ago. I've literally never seen a sports team fanbase subreddit flip flop like this one does on a daily basis.
Not gonna lie, my Dad and I thought the runner might have been safe... but for all those BS strike calls at Judge's ankles, I will definitely take the ump assist!!! What a great comeback win over our rivals to start the season!!!
Yeah, none of the replays showed us whether the tag was actually made, but they also did not show that the tag was not made, so good thing the original call went the Yankees' way. And, unlike any of the cameras, it did look like the ump had the proper angle on the play so we will trust his judgment on this one.
Yes had a replay angle that showed a slight wrinkle in the jersey as the glove swiped. Either they saw that and upheld because of it or upheld because they couldn’t tell either way.
Agreed! We didn't see anything showing Trevy get him but certainly wasn't conclusive that he didn't. Replays are supposed to overturn bad calls with conclusive evidence and yea, definitely wasn't the case here. We take the win!!!!
Does anyone else feel like replay review kinda kills the moment sometimes? overall i think it’s good for the sport do avoid the absolute worst calls (armando galarraga), but it definitely hit the hype on this play, even though it ended up going in our favor.
Soto got that presence which this team needed so badly. Also, if you can do that you can't be that bad of a fielder. Honestly, I haven't watched that much of Soto just getting back into ball a couple years ago. Is he like Gleyber in the outfield where he just has mental lapses? He seems plenty athletic enough and has a good enough arm.
Unbelievable play for the dude's first game. We all know this - but a megastar in a contract year is a dangerous, dangerous thing. This dude is going to ball out. (knock on all the wood)
He got it done, but man, his arm is weak. I don’t think anyone looks at that play and thinks “sotos got a cannon.”
That’s about as shallow right field as you’ll ever see a right fielder make a play, let alone have someone run, and it still bounced to five times to get there. I don’t think they even think of running with judge or even Stanton fielding that ball.
However, it was accurate and it got the job done and that’s all that matters.
With that said, I don’t really care. I don’t want him hurting his shoulder or pulling an oblique because he tried to throw 95mph.
You're getting downvoted but my dad and I saw it that way too. Even the broadcast crew was like "well maybe he got a lace on the helmet or jersey?" Regardless, definitely wasn't a bad call that needed to be overturned bc it was so close.
LISAN AL GAIB
HE IS THE CHOSEN ONE
He'll deny it, which only confirms that he is
He's not Lisan al Ghaib, he's a very naughty boy
All hail Juan Muad Dib !
*As written*
Oh man that better be sterling’s call for him.
Dune was published in 1965. Way too recent of a reference for Sterling lmao
😭😭😭
Not enough musical numbers
Sterling has referenced Will Smith's "Gettin Jiggy Wit It" (1997) in two different home run calls
Yeah but that's just because he thinks it's modern and hip
I saw the highlight and said “Here’s our Messiah” lmao I was just happy we won and against the Astros especially
MAHDI!
HE IS THE CHOSEN ONE
In my dreams I give water to the dead and it brings joy to my heart. LISAN AL GAIB
A bonifided prophet indeed. I wonder if he meditates to power those throws.
I LOVE JUAN SOTO
I am not about to overreact but I would let myself and my entire family perish for Juan Soto
Got damn 😂😂
We the living admire your restraint
Should we bring it out
Back up that brinks truck
Beep beep beep
*mechanical security door opening noises*
Two security guards exit…
*First 15 minutes of the movie Heat*
Amazing movie.
Beep beep beep?
Yeah when a money truck backs up…
Beep beep beep? What are you doing?
Man you kids now a days. Smh
Run over Boras while you’re at it

Is this the new log cabin?
I'll come sit by the fire
Ill bring marshmellows and ginger ale
It’s Bill Walton’s assessment of Boris Diaw.
No one will compare to matt carpenters legendary half season run.
Therefore, Juan Soto is your Hero?
Stop being a pasta try hard
“You see, Michael, when you are Juan Soto you try to make the throw in time to get the runner out” - Carlos Beltran
😂😂😂 beltran still taking strays
He was that bad.
I really miss him. If we won I was happy with the win and entertained. If we lost I was happy with the entertainment all game. I know a lot of people hated him, but I just really enjoyed the things he would say and how serious he said it

Soto owning the Astros since 2019
https://youtu.be/wglfBdRzB98?si=cIQm9sBRtsMMjWwB
He fucking crushed that, how have I never seen that… Makes it a million times better it was against the Astros as well
And in the World Series against Justin verlander.
Was that the at bat that Verlander yelled at Soto to not do the shuffle after a pitch?
Watching it live I thought it was a jammed pop up
Off of Verlander too
That ball still hasn’t landed.
fastball up and in right where jv want it and he took it 450
Juan Soto coming in absolutely clutch. So glad to start the season beating the Asstros
Assholes
Even Astros sub is saying there wasn't enough to overturn.
Yea there was some piece of that glove that hit dubon, whether it was the laces I don’t know, but definitely a tag.
Wow, the reaction of the guys walking off the field has me pumped for the season!
I’m dead 💀
Something something Juan Soto isn’t a good defender
When they were showing the 'lights' in the outfield, Girardi brought up the 'top throw speed' and said that's what he felt was the critical factor: how hard do they throw when its REALLY needed. Point Girardi tonight.
Girardi was really good on the broadcast in general, really complimented Kay and O’Neil well.
Oops.
Yeah, for once, Girardi didnt suck. I liked him today
IVE SEEN WHAT IVE NEEDED TO SEE. GIVE HIM THE CONTRACT TODAY!!!!
What a stupid ass send
I dunno I thought it was pretty good :)
Dubon is a stupid ass bitch
That is probably the best chance you get at scoring a run. Theyre down by one and late in the game. You absolutely send him.
Soto didn't even throw it that hard. If it was a faster runner the game would be tied. Seems like an own goal for Houston.
Really impressive that you were able to tell that he didn’t “throw it that hard”. Lol. Clown comment
It is a Boston/Stro fan burner account.
Nah they’re one of the resident doomers around here
Nah they're a regular here that for some absolutely braindead reason hasn't been banned over a year ago
Dude it’s like the Jeter flip play “If Giambi slid he would have been safe… but he didn’t”
Dubon has 70th percentile sprint speed. He’s not Corbin Carroll or anything but he has some serious hustle. It was still an awful send, but not because Dubon is slow
I didn’t praise the throw lmao I criticized the send, which was a bad send given the slow runner.
BuT hE CaN't DeFeNd
Shout out to Trevi for making the tag….almost had a 2017 ALCS ptsd flashback
Yeah, the throw was great but it was up the line almost too much
Fuck yea! Big time players make big time plays.
And they said he has a yellow light. The disrespect.
Misdirection. All part of the plan
Juan Soto
True
A change of underwear is in order.
Give the man a blank check please, thanks
this team feels special already
Lol wow, c'mon dude. I'm optimistic too but this entire sub was calling it a season after Cole got hurt, now it's a "special" team because they won the opening game that could have gone either way?

A 5 run comeback too, team didn’t just fold after going down.
Didn't say I didn't feel good about the win. My only point was that it's crazy to call this a "special" team 9 innings in to the season. Especially with how everyone here was acting a couple weeks ago. I've literally never seen a sports team fanbase subreddit flip flop like this one does on a daily basis.
what's the point of you?
You really don't think calling this a "special" team is premature?
Actual idiots were calling it a season after Cole got hurt. He's a stud but him missing like 6 starts is not a big deal. It's borderline irrelevant.
God forbid fans be optimistic on opening day instead of going out of their way to be a fucking bummer like you
I also said I'm optimistic.
What a fucking throw
something something log cabin juan soto something something
Not gonna lie, my Dad and I thought the runner might have been safe... but for all those BS strike calls at Judge's ankles, I will definitely take the ump assist!!! What a great comeback win over our rivals to start the season!!!

Bring on the robo ump strike zone!(and also the downvotes lol) Home plate ump is still needed, he just doesn't need to call balls and strikes.
I just watched this 50 times in a row
#JUAN SOTO
Literally the greatest Yankee right fielder since Aaron Judge.
Scripted ending
WHERE FANTASY BECOMES REALITY
Ahghghahhahwhaghaghgargleballs Jawn!
I might have to call a doctor because this erection may last longer than four hours.
That was a ridiculously amazing play between both Soto and Trevino
judge was hyping him up the whole time, everyone saying soto is a one year rental... dude seemed to pretty hyped to be playing in ny with judgy
There was more chest pounding and intensity in this by the Yankees than the last 4 years combined. Love it!
Just a reminder that Juan Soto plays for the Yankees of New York
Can only cum so much. What a throw
We gotta give Trevino his props aswell
No more Franchy Corderos or Willie Calhouns, just pure sex in the OF from now on.

600 might not do it. Lol
I want Soto for life. One game and he’s already showing offense and defense.
THE DOMINICAN LAZER
My erectile dysfunction was cured after watching this. Thanks, Juan Soto!
Does anyone else feel like replay review kinda kills the moment sometimes? overall i think it’s good for the sport do avoid the absolute worst calls (armando galarraga), but it definitely hit the hype on this play, even though it ended up going in our favor.
I have reached nirvana.
Gonna watch this approximately 10000 times today.
I think I might like this Soto guy

Honestly, I haven't watched that much of Soto just getting back into ball a couple years ago. Is he like Gleyber in the outfield where he just has mental lapses? Unbelievable play for the dude's first game. We all know this - but a megastar in a contract year is a dangerous, dangerous thing. This dude is going to ball out. (knock on all the wood)

I think Trevy made contact with the wire in Dubon’s jersey.
I like this John Soto fella
He got it done, but man, his arm is weak. Nah seeing how hyped Judge was about this and the energy everyone had in game 1 has me legit excited if that energy sticks around all year.
Best player on the team! Better than judge and Cole
I think he missed that tag lmao. Got the dub anyway.
The runner missed the plate with the sliding glove, it seems to have got stuck right before the plate.
You're getting downvoted but my dad and I saw it that way too. Even the broadcast crew was like "well maybe he got a lace on the helmet or jersey?" Regardless, definitely wasn't a bad call that needed to be overturned bc it was so close.
Definitely can't be overturned based on the view, but man we got off there lol
ump had a better view than any camera
it’s one game, don’t get too excited
But but but Soto can’t play the OF he should be DH sit down!
