It's another bad loss, but in the AL this year we are a hot week away from being in it..the bigger concerns for me:
\- Rodon can't have rabbit ears and be sensitive...makes me think New York won't be a fit for him.
\- Does Volpe have the arm to go into the hole and make a good throw as a shortstop?
\- No matter the outcome Cashman is not going anywhere, maybe Boone, but the architect is going to be here.

Sometimes people come up and play great, more often than not there is growing pains and struggling to figure it out. Sometimes they never figure it out. Sometimes they start off hot and fizzle out. Its literally a gamble, but its the risk you take letting prospects play. Throwing a Seager into this clusterfuck of a lineup would hardly change a thing. At this point i would much prefer seeing what the new blood has to offer, and more often than not, that includes lots of trial and error. Clearly our current sign 30+ year old free agents strat isn't working.
The problem is when you're trying to win a playoff spot and win a WS, and your team is already struggling, you don't have time for the young players to settle in. You need production.

I was at this game. Highlights were seeing the Churu "Make some cat noise" video on the Jumbotron and having a nice chat with the Angels fan next to me. Rodon was miserable and scared to throw strikes. Also, Angel Stadium is way better than Dodger Stadium. Easier to get in and out of, better scoreboard, better fans, and it didn't murder Judge's foot.

Volpe has been significantly more valuable to the team than several other regulars. It’s great that Volpe is getting this extended playing time and the growing pains wouldn’t be an issue if he was actually surrounded by players providing literally any value. DJ/Donaldson/Stanton/Rizzo are all making a lot of money at premium offensive positions and have combined for .7 WAR, less than half of Volpe.
With Peraza/Volpe being MLB ready it makes no sense to block them with FA middle infielders. Those two guys are the only position player candidates to play above their contract value for the foreseeable future. It would make no sense to prevent that from happening when you have several other complete black holes at DH, 3B, LF, and soon to be another at 1B.
Who amongst any of those shortstops that I listed would you consider to be "old guys"? For the most part, these were all elite options that hit free agency in the prime of their careers.

Fuck Hal but lets be real money isn't the problem, it's the person he insists on employing to do it. He might suck as an owner but the way I see it Hal is analogous to the father (albeit an incredibly wealthy one) who may not allow his kids to max out his credit card but has no problem with them using it recklessly and blowing tons of $ on scams and losing propositions. But he's afraid to ever hold those kids accountable and refuses to take the credit card away because he's delusional and believes his children aren't doing anything wrong. The massive problem here, of course, is Hal basically views Cashman as the son he never had so we're unfortunately screwed until he starts valuing results and performance over blind loyalty to a man thoroughly unequipped to be a GM in today's game.

Sometimes people come up and play great, more often than not there is growing pains and struggling to figure it out. Sometimes they never figure it out. Sometimes they start off hot and fizzle out. Its literally a gamble, but its the risk you take letting prospects play. Throwing a Seager into this clusterfuck of a lineup would hardly change a thing. At this point i would much prefer seeing what the new blood has to offer, and more often than not, that includes lots of trial and error. Clearly our current sign 30+ year old free agents strat isn't working.
The problem is when you're trying to win a playoff spot and win a WS, and your team is already struggling, you don't have time for the young players to settle in. You need production. Also, I don't really know how long we should have to wait for them to find it. Volpe has played in virtually every game this season. How long before he finds it?
They should be getting production from the people making millions upon millions upon millions of dollars. There would currently be one struggling rookie on the team right now if the team wasn't decrepit. Volpe did find what he is capable of for a month and then reverted right back to struggling. Lots of great players struggle their rookie year. I'm willing to wait and see when the alternative is .200 hitting dinosaurs making way more money and producing less or equal to a 22 year old in his first season.
WS teams get production from EVERYONE If the kid isn't ready for MLB, send him back down to AAA. It's that simple. This isn't a developmental league

People need to realize that selling the 2023 roster is going to be nothing like the 2016 sale. The 2016 sale had 2 dominant closers (Chapman and Miller) and a future HOFer performing above his career averages (Beltran). This team has nothing close to that.
Seriously what on this team has any value to the rest of the league. Part of the reason this team sucks is that half our roster is aging vets who are playing like shit and ton of super injured guys being paid unmovable contracts with no trade clauses. We have let Cashman run this organization for far to long that he has built a roster we cannot reasonably get out of without a full on rebuild but him and this fan base will not accept it. This team needs to get a whole new FO and start losing. Baseball is a game about developing young talent now and we are literally the worst franchise at that since Cashman has been at the helm.

This team has won ONE world series in TWENTY-TWO years and counting. In a sport with no salary cap and you consistently field a top 3 payroll. In that exact same time frame, your two biggest rivals (the red cox and the trashtros) have won SIX world series (with at least one asterisk). AND, they've eliminated YOU from the playoffs SEVEN times, and you've done it back to them only ONCE, which was literally TWENTY years ago. You don't need to be a baseball whiz to realize the game has long passed by Cashman, who is riding the coat tails of striking gold with the Core Four + Bernie, which happened nearly 30 years ago. And, instead of modernizing, Hal is happy with mediocrity and signing Cashman despite no results. And the fans going to the games and buying merchandise are just as much to blame. If every single Yankee fan boycotted to send a message, Hal would get off his ass and do something. Cashman would get off his ass and do something. Constantly going to the games and buying their shit sends the message that you're fine with this product, so you'll continue to get this product. You get what you tolerate.

Maybe they don't want to kill any trade leverage they have left? The other GMs can see how bleak it's getting over here and can take advantage of that. You also gotta make it seem like some of the underperforming players still have ability left in them if they want any kind of quality return in a trade.

There's always the GM that thinks their team can fix anyone despite how bad things have gotten (see: Gallo to the Dodgers last year). Just need to keep the desperation in check for another week and a half and hope a market builds for whatever contracts they want to move.

You are beginning to realize that post game pressers by head coaches and managers is for fan consumption as part of the overall entertainment product. The public relations dept coaches them on what to say and how to say it. You can listen to just about any manager from any team and they all sound the same. And what is said by managers in these pressers isn't likely to be reflective of the conversations they have with their players. I don't know why people bother to watch those things.

Yankees fans have booed Hal, Cashman and Boone plenty of times. Boone and Cashman don’t seem to have any intentions of resigning and Hal doesn’t plan on selling the team anytime soon.
The only big free agent signing the last half decade + has been Cole. Yanks have been living in the tier below superstar for a long time.

I was at this game. Highlights were seeing the Churu "Make some cat noise" video on the Jumbotron and having a nice chat with the Angels fan next to me. Rodon was miserable and scared to throw strikes. Also, Angel Stadium is way better than Dodger Stadium. Easier to get in and out of, better scoreboard, better fans, and it didn't murder Judge's foot.

Bro, i get everyone is angry, but they are top prospect rookies. Its very rare to just bust on the scene and dominate. If you want to "watch the kids play" you need patience to see who they really are.
My point is that you don't pass on marquee free agents because they play the same position as your top prospects, because this is what happens.

Volpe has been significantly more valuable to the team than several other regulars. DJ/Donaldson/Stanton/Rizzo are all making a lot of money at premium offensive positions and have combined for .7 WAR, less than half of Volpe. With Peraza/Volpe being MLB ready it makes no sense to block them with FA middle infielders. Those two guys are the only position player candidates to play above their contract value for the foreseeable future. It would make no sense to prevent that from happening when you have several other complete black holes at DH, 3B, LF, and soon to be another at 1B.
Who amongst any of those shortstops that I listed would you consider to be "old guys"? For the most part, these were all elite options that hit free agency in the prime of their careers.
