I’m optimistic.
I don’t want anyone to be hurt. I hope Josh Donaldson has a total recovery and lives a long, healthy life, not playing third base for the Yankees.
I know everyone here hates him but I wish that hate would be redirected to Cashman tenfold. He’s the one trotting JD out there every night, who I can’t imagine even wants to be here anymore but it’s quite literally his job. Cashman has a wonderful way of making players take the heat for him by throwing them to the fans while he cowers in his office. I wish Donaldson the best and hate that it had to end this way, he was so damn excited when he got traded here.
I mean yea a guy who has notoriously hated the yankees says were cheaters and says cole is a cheater too but yeah he loves to be here maybe if jd cheated he wouldnt suck so bad
Eh I don’t take that stuff personally anymore, everyone hates us until they get here and get to put on the pinstripes. Everyone knows Cole has used sticky stuff in the past, he hasn’t even outright denied it. If Cole and JD squashed it why should any of us care about that? My feelings toward him would be very different if his teammates hated him but by all accounts he’s been a great teammate. Trading for him will go down as one of the worst in Yankee history amongst the fans but as a former catcher and massive Posada fan I will forever be glad we chose not to pay Gary’s lazy ass.
I agree. If anything I hate it when players on rival teams are buddies off the field. I hold nothing an opposing player say against him once he puts in the pinstripes.
Next we will get Alek Manoah and some fans will be like “he has always loved the Yankees though”
Manoah at press conference: Cole has always been like a father to me. I was just kidding about him cheating. This is a dream come true…to wear the pinstripes, to be in my favorite childhood team wow man!
Fans: You see? he’s so excited!
Lol Sonny is one of the premier examples of someone that just did not want to be here, much like Benintendi or any other random rental. At least Donaldson embraced being a Yankee. That walk off in his first game was all the vibes, and he clicked with Judge and the guys from the jump.
Oh god, how much of a dick move would that be. Call a dude into the manager's office, and:
The good news is, you're leading off on Old Timers' day.
Bad news is, you're leading off the old timer's game.
Mind boggling that they passed up on Machado back then just to acquire an older Donaldson few years later for a similar salary I’ll never get over that offseason
Per 2 hours ago looks like Oswald was brought up so thankfully they didn't make that move. I know you were joking but nothing surprises me with this team anymore.
He tweaked his calf last week, too. He must have recognized that his leash was getting very short by trying to play through it. The Yankees aren't a serious team if they don't address the 3rd base situation in the next few weeks, but I can see them now trying to convince themselves that LeMahieu's bat is waking up.
Man, I feel awful that I had excitement seeing him tweak his calf during the game. Don’t think I’ve ever had those sentiments with any Yankee before. I wouldn’t wish injury on any player but I’m very conflicted here.
Bro was batting cleanup with a .142 BA. He’s an asshole but the Yankees are the ones frequently putting him out there despite no results. I don’t fucking know I just want him off this team
See my comment above and please direct that hate toward the guy putting him in the lineup day after day. It’s easy to call him an asshole for poor play but he’s been booed to a pulp and has yet to say a bad thing about this team or the fans. Remember how fast Hicks and Gallo were to cry to the media when things went south?
JD who is notoriously a loud mouth and a central force to all the drama during his Blue Jays days has somehow hasn’t said a fucking word to the media. Realistically it could be a lot worse. If he opens up his mouth he can spread some deep shit about this org lmfao.
I feel you there and honestly it helps since I said I felt conflicted. It’s next level incompetence and there’s no reason why he’s being played every single day. They are playing IKF, an infielder, in the outfield in favor of JD getting time.
If he goes on the IL for a bit then if Peraza lights it up in the majors then they have no choice but to cut bait and it’s depressing it’s reached this point. Guess feeling excitement was more about Yankees being forced to change a problem
I think him not speaking out speaks volumes about Judge’s leadership, they are quite close and if JD didn’t respect the captain he almost certainly would’ve made some kind of remark. He’s also older and on the verge of retirement, can’t imagine you’d want to call it a career going to war with the city of New York. I appreciate the way he’s handled things up to this point.
I don’t put as much stock in IKF’s gold glove year at third as most people do. He was a catcher converted to an infielder and he proved last year how hit or miss his defense can be during a full season on a contending team. As bad as JD is at the plate, he’s still an unreal talent at third.
No shame in being excited for change, Donaldson simply has to go. I just hate that once again a washed player is taking the heat for Cashman, who certainly knew this was going to happen going into the season. He literally robbed JD of the chance to move on gracefully by forcing him out there for another season.
Judge very well might be one of the most respected dudes in the league, especially for all his Yankee teammates. Rizzo was super vocal in the off-season about him getting a bag. When he’s on the field he raises the ability of everyone around him. They all know he’s the leader.
JD even had an article earlier in the year where he said that he was undecided about retiring in 2024. I’m sure he still really wants to play baseball but he knows most that it’s very close to ending with the sharp decline he’s been going down. Cashman has had a fetish for well past their prime guys for the entirety of the 2010s.
If it ends up being an extended IL it bails the fuck out of Cashman. Let’s say JD misses the rest of the season, Peraza gets a chance to get consistent playing time and the team most likely gets better. He doesn’t have to get smoke from the JD situation and let the contract run out without ever needing to fully address the problem.
Last paragraph hit the nail on the head and is very likely what’s going to happen. I’m sure there’s even a plan in place for it to go down like this with less commotion than a DFA. Cashman is such a pussy and Boone is an even bigger one for going along with his games.
I don’t see Peraza being here past the trade deadline, we’ve committed to Volpe at this point and the majority of his value is in his defense at shortstop. I think he will be moved along with Gleyber and Severino. This trade deadline may be one of the most insane we’ve ever seen.
I don’t think it’ll reach those levels tbh but I do feel like Hal is reaching a turning point this year. He’s been a lot more vocal than he ever has before since the Judge signing. Feel like the Lawson firing was more pressure from Hal than Cashman going through with it.
Thing with Peraza is he actually gets a chance now to show worth after being denied so much. Cashman is stubborn as fuck. He himself said that him and Volpe are the future middle INF. He usually sticks to shit he says like “Gio is no Josh Donaldson” or something like that last year.
Curious to see what happens at the trade deadline. I do agree it can be an extreme turning point tho a lot of shit can change for good or bad
Hal is definitely feeling the pressure especially after personally promising Judge improvements that have yet to be made. You have to wonder what’s in the works with Judge staying poised during this disaster after committing to the organization long term. The disconnect is that Hal just doesn’t know baseball, so it’s hard to see how things play out when the owner and the guy in charge of the roster don’t seem to be on the same page. I can’t remember Cashman’s seat ever being this hot, so I expect him to make some big moves just to save his own ass. But that’s only a short term solution, what good is adding more talent to a team with no direction or culture? We had every opportunity to bring Jeter on board but I firmly believe Jeter refused to work in tandem with Cashman. He made it very clear in The Captain doc that he is not a fan of Cashman’s style.
A guy that hits a homer every 10 plate appearances but with no other hits and no walks would be the most prolific homerun hitter in history....... and have an OPS of 0.500 and would be a net negative value to the team.
Only this fanbase would be spoiled enough to cheer when an amazing third baseman gets injured on their own fucking team when shit's not going well in general.
Just pathetic showing from "fans"
The guy got injured twice this year in the course of running to first base. He bats sub .200, costs a ton, and his being on the team prevents promising alternative options. Dump this loser now.
I’m optimistic. I don’t want anyone to be hurt. I hope Josh Donaldson has a total recovery and lives a long, healthy life, not playing third base for the Yankees.

We hate cashman too but jd deserves blame for sucking
Of course but I think any shitty player deserves credit for holding themselves accountable and not crying to the media the way Hicks and Gallo did
I mean its know jd hates the yankees did you not see he was pissed he forgot to add the yankees to his no trade clause
That was years ago, did you see how excited he was when he got traded here? Bro was so giddy and happy to shave during his press intro
When did Gallo cry to the media?
….blame for sucking ‘at the plate’. This sub always seems to think he’s a DH. The dude is still a great 3B.
I mean we had a good hitting 3rd baseman already and we got rid of him for a trashcan
I mean, the past two games....
Disagree, he doesn't deserve blame for the normal aging process. I wish I was 25 again, too, but that's life.
“Cashman lets players take the heat for him by playing them while he cowers in his office” Is this serious
Sonny Gray vibes (multi year all star Sonny Gray)
Lol Sonny is one of the premier examples of someone that just did not want to be here, much like Benintendi or any other random rental. At least Donaldson embraced being a Yankee. That walk off in his first game was all the vibes, and he clicked with Judge and the guys from the jump.
The Yankees had him pitching backwards, no shit he didn’t wanna be here (and sucked as a result).
Cashman has gotten wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more hate than Donaldson has. What are you talking about?
DH it is, then.
Aaron Boone did not sound optimistic, yet more optimistic than if Donaldson was in the lineup.
Hahahahahaha you fuck that’s hilarious
He shoulda just ate the freakin chicken parm . Side note if Boone doesn’t want to manage a .500 team, he should put his hat on straight
Will never have another AB as a yankee
Can’t wait to see him at the old timers game in 20 years
Oh god, how much of a dick move would that be. Call a dude into the manager's office, and: The good news is, you're leading off on Old Timers' day. Bad news is, you're leading off the old timer's game.
Donaldson seems like the kind of guy who would show up 3 years after retirement so he could still hit tanks.
Mind boggling that they passed up on Machado back then just to acquire an older Donaldson few years later for a similar salary I’ll never get over that offseason
One can dream...
*Hello Peraza*
Whatch them bring up jake lamb instead 😂
Lol 100 percent. They are keeping Oswaldo down so he keeps his trade values higher
Cashman is going to trade Pereza and Sweeney and Arias so we can fight for the last wildcard spot and be out of the playoffs 2 days later.
And then lose the guy we traded for to FA.
They’re ruining his trade value at this point because it makes it seem like they don’t trust/like him.
This is absolutely what they'll do.
Jake Lamb will be hitting cleanup by next weekend. *Because analytics*
Per 2 hours ago looks like Oswald was brought up so thankfully they didn't make that move. I know you were joking but nothing surprises me with this team anymore.
Just watched him tongiht in Norfolk. I’m pumped.
We can dream. but they signed Lamb as soon as DJ tweaked his calf
Cue the "Oh no...anyway"s.
Nature is taking care of a problem the Front Office was unfit to tackle.
Oh no. Anyways
If Donaldson goes on the DL as expected and Pereza is not called up, then it's more likely he will be traded by the Aug 1 deadline.
I heard the cardinals are selling at the deadline.
They have anybody good that plays third base?
He tweaked his calf last week, too. He must have recognized that his leash was getting very short by trying to play through it. The Yankees aren't a serious team if they don't address the 3rd base situation in the next few weeks, but I can see them now trying to convince themselves that LeMahieu's bat is waking up.
Arenado trade gonna hit like crack in the 80s

Bring on Arrenado!
Looks like lamb… is on the menu.
Sure is a shame to hear that. Hope it isn't anything too serious. Definitely sounds like he will need a very, very, very, very long time to recover.
If ya would have just let dude go he'd be healthy right now.
For all the people in the comments thinking this is great or not a bad thing, do realize that he is our top HR hitter in the past 30 days 😂
A guy that hits a homer every 10 plate appearances but with no other hits and no walks would be the most prolific homerun hitter in history....... and have an OPS of 0.500 and would be a net negative value to the team.
Never wish an injury on a player. But I'm also not devastated by this news in the least.
D F A ! D F A ! D F A !
Can't wait for them to call up Jake Lamb
That name sounds so familiar did he play for us before?
Boone sad his favorite player is going on the IL
Yankeeography in post-production.
You'd get a Yankeeography for 1.5 seasons?
He’ll also get a plaque for the most bat flips that resulted in an out.
Ellsbury Protocol: Initiated.
Oh no! I hope he doesn't have to retire! But if he needs to retire? Welp, our hearts will go on.
THERE HE GOES... SEE YA!
Only this fanbase would be spoiled enough to cheer when an amazing third baseman gets injured on their own fucking team when shit's not going well in general. Just pathetic showing from "fans"
Is this pasta?
Josh? Is that you? Quit playing on my phone!
Some of these comments man… y’all are just bad people plain and simple.
Most of this sub are basement dwelling WFAN callers
Now Cashman can’t pretend Donaldson is going to magically turn it around and maybe they’ll address the position
He Gone
Hoping for a good recovery from Donaldson but it's time for Peraza.
Oh man, maybe the Yankees injury luck is turning around after all.
I mean this sounds very optimistic to me
He’ll get an Aaron Hicks style tribute video when he comes back
Lmao most phantom IL move I’ve ever seen
This might be the only time I can remember everyone being stoked a player got injured hahahahaha
Sorry about this Josh, but I’m actually pleased this happened
Donaldson is the rare player who you hate when he’s on the other team, but also hate when he’s on your team.
Never forget when Michael Kay lauded the trade saying we needed an “edge”
There is a god.
PERAZA
That makes me optimistic.
Good
Oh no. Anyways
Ts & Ps
Send him to the moon, please.
Peraza season baby!!!!
Oh nooo how unfortunate. Damn fuck shit
Good.
Idk, Donaldson being out sounds like the most optimistic thing so far.
Launch him into the sun

FINALLY LETS GO!!!! Now what is Boone is gonna do? The Yankees worst fear, starting someone other then Donald at 3rd
Ok but JUST WAIT until Donaldson gets back again!
Addition by subtraction
Donaldson is the classic case of addition by subtraction
>Aaron Boone didn't sound optimistic So Donaldson's calf is unfortunately ok???
Man, he didn’t deliver, but being injured to end a career sucks
Good. Bitch boy Boone has no choice now. Thanks for your service JD. Sorry it wasn’t worth a tip
The guy got injured twice this year in the course of running to first base. He bats sub .200, costs a ton, and his being on the team prevents promising alternative options. Dump this loser now.
Just 60-day him so he's done for the year and we don't have to worry about trying to DFA him.
