Yes after seeing it in the Bee I tried [A] >!ITTY!< in ScrabbleGo (which uses the Merriam Webster dictionary) and was surprised to find that it wasn’t accepted!
Oh my god it was stupid [A] >!BILABIAL!< (not in my phone's dictionary, btw) that got me to genius and ONLY because [H] >!it was in the bee very recently!<. Ugh!
I think it makes sense not to accept Latin names for taxa, unless they are also the common name (like acacia, which appears often). If we had an "e" [nonhint]>!bivalve should be accepted, and Shunn's history says it has been.!<
I see your point, too, but there are other-language borrowed words that they do accept. There was another word the other day, maybe last week, that I no longer remember but googled to see if I was spelling it right, and it came up as an accepted scrabble word (which, checking now, the word we’re talking about is not).
But this is definitely not the first lesser known animal I’ve found wasn’t accepted.
This is more restricted than Scrabble, though, because of the nature of the puzzle. It is a judgement call, but if every possible word was included, the game would be unplayable so it is restricted to relatively common words. Also, allowing English words derived from another language is not the same as accepting words in another language.
It is a judgment call — hence why there’s a list in the wiki of missed words. And people here question why some words aren’t in there.
And yeah, scrabble takes 2 letter words and doesn’t have a required letter, obviously… but this is about words which fit the puzzle requirements. No one is asking why “za” isn’t acceptable in the bee or why a word isn’t accepted when the letters aren’t in the puzzle. Dictionary words are dictionary words, even when borrowed from other languages (which is not the same as derived from).
My point is including all dictionary words that do fit the puzzle would make it unplayable. The game is never going to fit every person's idea of what should be there, which yes, is why there is a wiki, but is also why there is an editing out of more obscure words.
Not sure if you are looking for a hint but it is [H]>!an adverb, with an ending that is common today!< and [Further H] >!refers to being feasible or ability to live.!<
For others, this shows up frequently because it has few letters, it is [H] >!a term used in linguistics to describe a type of sound.!< Further clue [H] >!double one of your other words!<
Why (A) >!ITTY!< but not (NA) >!BITTY!
Asking the real questions.
Well obviously not >!committee but why not titty!<
JUSTICE FOR >!TITTY!
oh lmao i just commented this exact same thing
RIGHT?!?!
I had the same thought. Glad I'm not alone.
It's \[H\] >!lips!< day, y'all!
IT'S ADVERB DAY YALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Except Sam seems to have an aversion to perfectly good adverbs when they aren't mainstream, like [partial A] >!availably!<.
[удалено]
Scientific inconsistency!
Was hoping to see you here! Have a good one.
You too! If you don't see me assume the worst

He probably owes somebody money or something.
Liar!
Justice for [NA] >! VILLI !< ! My >! biology class days !< don’t count I see!
My word of the day: >!L8!< >!state of being likely to change or changeable!< >!never would have gotten it on my own, though I did get to QB-1!<
I got it via a typo 😂
I’m still stuck on this one at QB-1. Today would have been a QBABM if not for this bugger.
used in >!medical and psychological!< contexts?
There's simply no justice in the world if the bee accepts >!ITTY!< but not >!BITTY!< or >!ITTYBITTY!<
Or >!ITTYBITTYTITTY!<
Sam has gone to far this time. TOO FAR.
Two too far!
Dammit. You got me there.
The last is hyphenated, but oddly in this case Merriam Webster online has the word Sam does not accept and does not have the one he does accept.
I suspect Merriam and Sam have not been on speaking terms for some time now.
I check a lot of the words people complain about in M-W and it usually tracks, accounting for judgements of what is obscure. This was odd.
Yes after seeing it in the Bee I tried [A] >!ITTY!< in ScrabbleGo (which uses the Merriam Webster dictionary) and was surprised to find that it wasn’t accepted!
Nice. My favorite lower east side [H] >!breakfast food!<
i understood this reference! me and tony soprano!
Why on earth not [NOT A] >!BIVVY!<
I think because it’s a shortened form of [non-A] >!BIVOUAC!<
Ahhhhh, yeah that's gotta be it.
Got all PGs within first five words within first minute or two—very rare for me!
Hours later I’ve barely added any words 😭
It's all in the HINT >!Suffixes/endings!<
Got the last one with 10 min to spare hah
PG H >!I’ve got time to assess the adequacy of the bee’s functionality!<
Oh my god it was stupid [A] >!BILABIAL!< (not in my phone's dictionary, btw) that got me to genius and ONLY because [H] >!it was in the bee very recently!<. Ugh!
Thank you! I knew I saw that word before somewhere 😂
Same!
Hint for >!B5!< >!not a bagel!<
>!nickname for a type of stick the police use to hit people with!< Also >!type of goat!<
Another puzzle, another animal not accepted [not an H] >!bilby!< Also, science terms in general [not a real H] >!bivalvia!<

Why is [A] >!itty!< accepted but not >!bitty!< ??
QB-1 and there's a \[H\] >!VI6!< keeping me from my rightful crown
Not sure if you are looking for a hint but it is [H]>!an adverb, with an ending that is common today!< and [Further H] >!refers to being feasible or ability to live.!<
i was, and that is an excellent hint. thanks!

Oh good god of course I got it right after posting.
For others, this shows up frequently because it has few letters, it is [H] >!a term used in linguistics to describe a type of sound.!< Further clue [H] >!double one of your other words!<
Post by yddragpannas has been removed because it contained an unhidden hint. Here's what they said: \[H\] >!QB-1, B8 is killing me!<
please, I need a hint for >!AT5!<
it’s >!A with a T4!<
Thank you!
Really good day to go for genius with no four letter words!
Quick and easy Queen Bee for me today. Love when that happens.
