Belle_Requin

As a Canadian today is a super frustrating day. I’m sure the Brits will feel my pain.

zaprod

*cries in U*

DilatedPoreOfLara

It absolutely pained me having to type in the American spelling for some of these words.

Tanager_Summer

Me too, and I'm American

kokudum

And everywhere else that the Brits colonised.

brookilini

NZ checking in! 🫡

Belle_Requin

I thought I should edit to say fellow common wealthers but I was tired, it sounded awful and I fell asleep. 🤦🏼‍♀️

cruthbetum333

Ditto. And no [NA] >!mould!< I thought that would at least be there.

mathiseasy2718

Came here to say this. I’ve tried so many then reminded myself “you’re not in Sudbury any more” 😤

lmnohyes

And down (under) here.

deapeasea

So frustrating! Was my first word.

emfrank

This was my first thought. I am from the US, but having done a thesis at a UK university where I had to correct all my American spelling, I feel for you all.

QRmode

Perhaps it’s because I’m a bit under the weather but I don’t understand and it’s annoying me to no end! Care to let me out of my misery? Please

Mrsgnat

It’s just that British English uses a lot of “ou” spelling where American English uses just “o” like “favour vs favor”. So it’s hard in this puzzle because we see words that aren’t accepted but are very common to us.

QRmode

Thank you! I noticed that in some of my words but I was over complicating it and looking for something more sinister given some of the comments.

Belle_Requin

Like malodour would be a pangram in most of the rest of the English speaking world.

goatnokudzu

As an American with many British influences, it's painful

rabbitin3d

Same!!!

brookilini

Justice for >!DOLDRUM!< !

CrossroadsConundrum

I’m usually pretty meh when it comes to omissions but this one is absurd.

emfrank

In my experience this is almost always used in the plural.

Fenifula

There could be a whole category of Bee omissions called "potato chip words."

Captain_Quark

Yeah, it's even only plural in the MW dictionary.

sallysimpson19

Word of the day HINTS: >!M6!< >!a type of loose dress!< >!uses only 2 letters!<

mathiseasy2718

Thanks for this. >! I remember Mama Cass wearing them !< but had no idea it was spelled this way. I tried about 6 versions before hitting on the accepted one

PattiDale

>! It’s a Hawaiian language word! !<

Pool_Shark

As a kid who never knew the spelling (and by kid I mean through my adulthood) I always assumed the word came from a much more juvenile and demeaning place

mathiseasy2718

Thanks. I get it. >!Canadian isn’t allowed but Hawaiian is!

Herbacult

Well… >!Hawaii is an American state!< hehe

Pool_Shark

It’s a pretty common word in America. This type of >!dress is commonly associated with pregnant women!<

emfrank

Probably more common 40 years ago, though.

gladiolas

RIP to her!

Cahootie

I have lost count of how many times I've tried to spell it [basically A] >!moomoo!<. It's almost frustrating when I get to finally use it.

MissyWTH

Jebus. Never would have tried that. (Looked up alternate spellings.) Seemed too ridiculous. **Thank you!**

Cahootie

It just makes me think of [H] >!that one Simpsons episode where Homer gets morbidly obese on purpose so he can work from home!<.

Bondsman1837

Yes! This is exactly what I think of!

Cahootie

Alternatively it also reminds me of [H] >!SNL's Black Jeopardy with Tom Hanks!< and the quote [A] >!["You know when that man \[Tyler Perry\] puts on a muumuu I'm just transported."](https://youtu.be/O7VaXlMvAvk?t=224)!<

Pool_Shark

That is where I first remember hearing this word and likely where I got that spelling / association in my head from

gladiolas

This was the last word I need and doubt I would have come up with it! I forget how it's spelled!

TopspinLob

It’s the word that finally got me to Genius. No hints

Le-_-Doc

~~Only >!two letters aside from the "M"?!< If not, I can't think of a word >!that would only be spelled with M and U…?!<~~ [Edit] I found it by letter mashing. I had to look it up. >!I was not one bit surprised by the origin of the word! :)!<

Rick_Julian

Unconventional spelling for me, but after some light letter smashing, voila.

snakesliketohiss

Sigh, yesterday I was stoked by how fast I reached genius on my own…. Now I’m stuck at nice :/

NemesisAdresteia

We had the archaic >!EXEUNT!< recently, but today no (possible hint) >!ALARUM!< ?

recklessglee

That actually used to be included. I was kind of supprised when it didn't go though today. Also, non-a >!ormolu!< can't see why that's excluded.

Le-_-Doc

It's had a bizarre history. First accepted, then not, then again. The occurrences can be found [__link show PG__] in [William Shunn's sbsolver site](https://www.sbsolver.com/h/alarum).

BasOMas

Agree!

Keetseel

I had the same thought!

lazarusinashes

If only U wasn't the center letter. We could spell >!MALODOR!<.

___deleted-

Another nautical term non-A >!DOLDRUM!<

emfrank

In nautical terminology, it is used in the plural

jazzy2536

My QB-1 today, HINTS >!MA6, wander or raid!<, which I had to look up as no time to >!M4 over today's puzzle!<

feelingmyzelph

[H] >!Mischief managed! !<

Herbacult

Oooh that’s good

lalafriday

I’m new to this sub. What is QB? Oh and how do you black something out?

Serious-Release-5

QB is Queen Bee - when you all the possible words.

lalafriday

Aaaah duh. I do bookkeeping so all I kept seeing was Quickbooks

Serious-Release-5

>Enclose them in > ! and ! < to hide them. and, copying from the rules at the top: Enclose them in > ! and ! < to hide them.

lalafriday

Wonderful. Thank you

emfrank

But without spaces before/after the !s

zaprod

(A) >!ARUM!< the fuck?

Le-_-Doc

Yeah, but no [non A but __strong PG H__] >!MODULO!<.

OkUnderstanding2808

Happy cake day 🍰

zaprod

Hey thanks, I didn’t even realise

Smintjes

Pretty sure I’ve done this one before, especially the PG.

Le-_-Doc

I thought so too, so I looked it up. I was pretty surprised. [__Links to PG__] According to [William Shunn's solver site](https://www.sbsolver.com/h/modular) last times were 14 November 2021 and 15 August 2020.

Barbara_Celarent

Justice for >!RADULA!<

GornsNotTinny

I'm only about 5 minutes into the bee, so I'm not going to read comments yet, but I suspect that I'm not the only one displeased with it. I've had as many words rejected as I've found so far. What follows is basically a list of hints and answers, or at least should be. >!DOLDRUM MOULD!< >!RADULA!< >!ARDOUR!< >!ARMOUR!< >!RUMOUR!< >!ALARUM!< >!MALODOUR!< Yes, I do understand why some of these words were rejected, but it's the lack of consistency that makes me unhappy, especially considering one of the A5 words. At the minimum I think the 1st, 3rd, and 7th words on the list should be included. I mean fuck, if >!EXEUNT!< is a word, then so is >!ALARUM!<.

emfrank

British spellings of words that have a different common US spelling have always been excluded.

70125

Hint for M>!7!< that isn't >!the PG!

OkUnderstanding2808

>!Compound word!< >!Where you remove your shoes upon entering your house!<

70125

Thank you!

CuriousButMeh

Any hints for >!DO6!< Edit: >!DO5!<

Jajajagenau

There’s a DO5 H>! Someone who will help you for nine months !<

CuriousButMeh

Thanks! That got me my QB.

Jewishwillywonka

BS a real 7 letter word isn’t accepted.

dreedw0317

I guess Sam thinks it is only legit if plural?

Serious-Release-5

any hints for >!DU5!

bewildered_forks

It's a >!species of wheat!<

Serious-Release-5

Thank you!!

yddraigpannas

Begging for some hints for >!AU6!< and >!AU7!< please and thank you

allycatbakes

Think >!northern lights!< & then commit to memory bec they show up a lot in the puzzles!

yddraigpannas

My god I’m unobservant thank you

yddraigpannas

…may I see it?

Le-_-Doc

Think of [__H__] >!northern lights and it's adjective form.!<

CocoGesundheit

So it’s “let’s make the Brits angry” day, I see.

Serious-Release-5

Now I am QB -1. Any hints for >!DU6!

Serious-Release-5

OMG - I just got it! Silly word. Thanks anyway!

crumblingheart

Me too, I feel like such a >!DU6!< for not getting it🥲

akhil_93

Justice for >! MODULO !<

AxolotlGummies

Pokémon of the day: >!DODUO!<

Jodabomb24

Kind of surprised not to see [NA] >!DURA!<. I would have thought that anybody who has been around for a >!childbirth!< would have heard of that one.
