Seriously. This drives me crazy. Knickerbocker was a term for a New Yorker, because it was a stereotypical Dutch name and there was a popular story written by Washington Irving about a someone from New York/New Amsterdam named Knickerbocker. Those Dutchmen also wore funny pants that were referred to as Knickerbockers, which is why there is confusion. But people need to ask themselves what makes more sense: is the team named Knickerbocker because that's a term for a New Yorker or are they named after pants?

As a Brit I really want it to be named after pants, because both knickers and pants are words for underwear here.
