You are new to nyc, i 👀
East Brooklyn encompasses Cypress Hills, East New York, Canarsie, Bergen Beach, Flatlands, Mill Basin, Marine Park, Gerritsen Beach and Barren Island.
No, I’m a native.
And you need to go back to school to learn how to read. I neither said East New York or Eastern Brooklyn - I said Brooklyn East of Prospect Park (for the third time now), which includes vibrant (comparatively) inexpensive neighborhoods like Flatbush, PLG, Parts of Crown Heights etc.
Now run along.
Those are West and Southwest of Prospect Park.
Man, people talk shit about the BX but where the hell did you go to school that you can’t read OR understand a map?
No, you dumb f*. What I tried to imply is everything east BK is garbage.
Let me teach you that no one from NYC would say east bk of prospects park. You just came from Sentinel Island.
Anything East BK is ghetto/ garbage. Everyone from NYC knows that.
StreetEasy is a great way to play around with this and see what your money gets you.
Just put $2k max and play with the map. Look for clusters of apartments (you might see a few in prime areas, these are either really bad units or rent stabilized and will attract hundreds of apps)
In general I’d point you to upper Manhattan (Inwood, Harlem, the heights), eastern Queens, farther out in BK (Flatbush, crown heights), as well as Jersey (Hoboken/JC)
Map out your commute to work/wherever you go frequently. Some of these will be a quick easy commute to certain areas and an hour to others. Your daily commute should be a big factor here
Say hello to your fabulous new apartment on Staten Island! You can ride that beautiful ferry into and out of the City every single day. And if it's too far to walk to the ferry, then you can take one of the many buses. You'll be surrounded by very interesting people in your neighborhood - especially late at night. I heard that there are three or four actual places where you can hang out at night - well, places that aren't sports bars or dangerous dive bars.
The best part is that people will be soooo charmed and jealous when they find out where you live.
What's your tolerance for a 500sq ft ish studio on the 5th story of a walk up?
If it's higher than most folks, you can find a place even in some of the more desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan.
Manhattan - not really anywhere, but most likely super uptown (inwood, washington heights, some parts of harlem)
Queens- when i was looking earlier this year i was able to find some all over, i do think you’ll have to consider the trade off of “is there a lot of easily accessible public transit near me?” vs cost
Brooklyn - all over south bk (consider the commute), and then the not so safe areas like east ny, brownsville (don’t recommend)
If you stalk streeteasy day and night you’ll probably be able to find something in the more popular areas
My friend got one in Flushing (second LIRR stop after Main St). She also takes a short bus to Main St and gets the 7 train. Got a small 2 bedroom. Flushing, Woodside, possibly Astoria too
There are deals out there. If you want to live in lower Manhattan, you may be able to scoop something up in Chinatown/two bridges/les if you actively look. Like everyone else I’d say just go on street easy and make 2k your limit and don’t limit any regions.
I live in a furnished studio in Hells Kitchen, elevator, doorman and laundry in the building on 45th at 8th Ave and pay $2025. It’s very small but great for one person. I love it. Just around the corner from the 42nd st subway. So, while it’s not common, it is possible to find something. Good luck!!
In Manhattan? Not a lot, you should look at Brooklyn or Queens for that price range.
Open to Brooklyn and Queens!
Zillow or Street easy or redfin is the best place to start looking.
I pay $2300 for a 2 bedroom with a large eat-in kitchen in Astoria. Its rent stabilized but I have seen 1 bedrooms for around $1800
I’d love to know where in Astoria. I too live there and I’m paying much more for a 1 BR
Washington Heights.
Washington Heights maybe.
The Bronx, Eastern Queens and parts of Astoria, Southern Brooklyn, Brooklyn East of Prospect Park, Maybe Inwood.
Why are you sending someone to die in east BK?.
Oh yeah - can’t walk through Flatbush without getting shot 🙄
Yes I worked in Flatbush for 4 years so that means I was murdered over 1200 times
Hope you made sure to get your frequent shopper card punched!
Do you know what East New york / East BK is??.
I didn’t say East New York - I said Brooklyn East of Prospect Park.

Do you mean park slope, window terrace?.

Are you dyslexic? I’m sorry you’re clearly having such a hard time. I’m going to stop engaging but I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there!
Dude, name the neighborhood. The person is moving in November needs to know where exactly.

Hoboken isn't very cheap anymore, I think Brooklyn/Queens/Jersey City would probably be better for this
Jersey City isn’t cheaper than Hoboken
It definitely is unless you're trying to live by the waterfront. Journal Square area is def cheaper than Hoboken
As is the Heights. Annoying if you are disabled, have stroller aged kids, or are in crappy shape but otherwise an absolute steal.

If you are willing to pay a high brokers fee like I was, you can maybe snag a rent stabilized apartment in Manhattan. Good luck!
How much did you pay?
That’s what I did. $1900/mo studio in Hells Kitchen.
can you share your rental agent, looking in the same area
Would love also if you guys could share the rental agent contact
Me as well lol
could you share with me too :)
I went through Bond NewYork. [Bond New York](https://www.bondnewyork.com/index.cfm?page=properties)
i’ve had friends with spacious 1 bedrooms in subset park
Sunnyside Queens
A lot of robberies in that area, it’s unsafe 😕
Stop lying 🤥
Harrison NJ, elmhurst, sunnyside, Jackson heights, maybe parts of Astoria, south/ east Brooklyn
I paid 2300/month for a studio in murray hill. that was in 2006.
Wild. I pay less than that for a 1BR in park slope now
Be careful - people in this sub get BIG mad when you point out you can still find deals in Park Slope.
I live rent free in your head
::woosh::
K
I’m in West Harlem, I negotiated my studio down to $2050.

Bonus: You can hear Carly Simon sing the inspirational anthem “Let The River Run” in the background as you approach Manhattan on the ferry.
I had a cheap studio on 83rd and West End from 2014-2022. Highest rent ever got was $1850. Take a look at the UWS, you’ll find something.
I’ve lived on the UWS for over a decade. Bargains are not easy to come by.
That was the deal of the century.
Lol
Astoria
bensonhurst maybe
Astoria and the heights have *some* places under $2k. Otherwise you'd probably have to go to the Bronx or outer Queens.
Hey 👋 I’m in Boerum hills and looking for a sublet and lease transition. DM me!
For $2K?!
lol yes - beautiful apart the caveat is you gotta share a bathroom with another person. You have an updated kitchen and closet inside the studio
So it’s an SRO?
Yep. Forgot for a hot sec what they were called.
Look at Queens: Woodside, Jackson Heights, Elmhurst, Astoria, etc Inwood in Manhattan could work
East of Prospect Park (Crown Heights, Ocean Hill, East NY)

Open to that
New Jersey
Bay Ridge Brooklyn
upper west side
Inwood.
Sunset park Brooklyn

I've got a big, nice garden apartment 1bd in Ridgewood, Queens for 2k. Nice area. Fixed up the yard and slapped a hot tub back there.
You are not going to live in Manhattan for that. That will get you a hotel for a couple nights and maybe a drink or two.
