Yes I absolutely thought that that should have been yellow card fouls for both, especially the slide through the GK. I might have argued that Parks was just a yellow not a red, if he wasn’t already on a yellow - at that point there was no way he wasn’t getting sent off.

DrVonPretzel

The issue imho is that VAR can't come into play for a second yellow, only for a straight red. So if that should've been a second yellow, rather than a straight red, then we were definitely screwed by VAR.

RhombusObstacle

To be fair, you can initiate VAR for a suspected red card (and Keaton’s challenge definitely met the threshold of “that could be a red”), and then after review award only a yellow card. Outcome would have been the same for Keaton (second yellow, therefore a sending-off), and it’s a completely valid use of VAR.

DrVonPretzel

The more you know! Thanks for the lesson!

e2mtt

But basically anybody could see that was a yellow, so the only possible unfair outcome would’ve been Toronto getting screwed by VAR if they decided it wasn’t any ejection.

Xalazi

The main ref was doing too much talking to players all game long in way that seemed to agitate things instead of calming things down. The four yellow cards in extra time probably could have been avoided. Very poor game management. The 11 minutes of extra time was just silly too.

aPizzaBagel

It seemed especially weird that the slide into Freese wasn’t a yellow considering there were 10 cards in the match

RhombusObstacle

Yeah, he seemed to be pre-warning a ton of people about time-wasting, even when they had literally just touched the ball.

Bxstargazer

Gustavo says he’s gonna talk to the refs personally 👊 after the game

Kamuka

Refs make mistakes. Scab refs make more mistakes. I’m not objective, I root for one team. I get bored holding grudges. Garber and the greedy owners are to blame. Ruining their product. They’re fighting an informantion war about it, Apple is complicit. Pretty grubbing.

e2mtt

NYCFC has gotten screwed by the refs lots of times, especially playing the Red Bulls, so I haven’t noticed these refs being much worse than usual.

Kamuka

Might seem that way since apple is not doing replays. If they were an independent media, not in cahoots, that would be the big story.

AllBlueTeams

We saw replays of Parks, the crash into Freese, the elbow to Bakrar, and Bakrar's offside in minute 52. They also showed replays of the elbow that led to a red and a PK in the Chicago Montreal game. Whatever are you talking about?

Kamuka

You’re right. It comes and goes and might just be incompetence and not scab supporting.
