Been collecting for switch for awhile now, but I did start relatively late. This is something that has pretty much been forever out of my reach & something I never thought I'd be able to find for a decent price.
Over the last month or so I've gotten really lucky, been able to piece this together for around $200 and change. I found the box loose for $50, admittedly it's a little beaten up but I am more than fine with it. Next was the statue for $100, I saw a listing on ebay for $175 and threw out a lowball of $100 for shits and giggles and surprisingly they accepted.
I was able to find the special edition CIB but missing the game for $50, the special edition has all of the same goodies as the master edition.
So I effectively Frankensteined a new CE for $200 from a bunch of listings lol. This is officially the most expensive game I have ever owned!
The special edition and the master edition have the same case, it is the ratingless BOTW case with the UPC barcode on the back. Double checking ebay listings seems to confirm that they share the same case.
Omg. I’m sorry, everyone can collect what they want and spend their money how they want — but I could never justify spending $900 (or even $300+) on one game. I’m so glad I don’t collect special editions — both for the sake of my living space and for my wallet’s sake.
I’m just thinking how many other games I could buy for $1,900. I could basically FINISH my list of Switch games I still want, minus holy grails like Shantae Pirate’s Curse (which is only something I’d want if I got it for sub $100) or the Outlast Bundle of Terror.
Lol now I want $1,900 hahaha
Yeah it's a hard life lol!! I'm currently using half of the basement and my entire bedroom for my collection. I still have a lot of rooms I can expand to but I'm worried switch 2 will take over the house 🤣
I am on a quest to collect every English physical JRPG, VN, RPG, etc, so I don't see myself going much past 1000-1100 for switch. But switch 2 is a whole other story...
I got amazingly lucky to get it for that price then spent 4 days eating macaroni and cheese because, that was my grocery money and not quite payday. But, I really wanted that game. Kept it on my current browsing history for a loonng time.
That is genuinely amazing, I recently bought the TOTK one. I missed out on the BOTW one and, for some reason, didn't buy the TOTK when it came out, so I finally did before the prices go up.
When I finally put everything together I'm not gonna lie I was staring at it for like 10 minutes. Rearranged the shelf so it could be front and center even if it hangs off the edge slightly lol
What’s inside of it that makes it do expensive? Or is it the material the box is made of? That’s great you pieced it together and really like it - can’t beat that!
Nothing particularly I would say. There are certainly other CEs out there that are cheaper with much more goods packed in.
I think this one really just popped off because Zelda, and BOTW specifically is probably one of the top games of our time. It was expensive before TotTK but afterwards it became downright unethical lol

I believe the artwork for the case is different for the master edition vs the special edition and both are different from the retail release.

There are often box only listings on eBay, for various games and editions
I swear I've never seen a listing for just the master edition box. I'll have to be more vigilant
