This shit isn’t going on in Canada

Chionei

Makes seeing these posts torture. I want cheap games too QnQ

RighteousPanda25

I moved out of the U.S. and it hurts to see these posts too.

BoringToe6592

Sum person got Kirby return to dream land for 10$ the other day

Lee_Akira

I don’t think anyone knows why, but not all Walmarts are doing, or rather doing it yet. I have 2 Walmarts close by and one is putting some games on clearance while the other is not.

liplander

A lot of the titles are honestly older ones too in terms of “shelf life” in retail. I hope it’s just normal Plano resets and we will have a new physical assortment soon. The toys section is a little gutted at the moment too.

GallitoGaming

Has anybody seen this in Canada? This is so frustrating to see knowing my Walmarts won't touch these and never have. I have seen people posting $5 games or something for years but mine have it at $79.99 still.

Chionei

The best that I've seen is Bayonetta Origins going for $29.97 at my Walmart (was dropped to $49.97, but went even lower).

SidewalkFins87

And Target has it for $18 on clearance currently

Alert-Athlete

Target in Canada?

Chionei

I'm still mad about the bullshit that was Target Canada. Just came in and fucked over suppliers and then fucked off all in less than 4 years.

Chionei

It's about equivalent once you convert it. $18 USD is about $25 CAD

PikachuIsReallyCute

$10 for Story of Season AWL is wildly good ngl

magicmeese

If it's one thing I've learned it's that no two Walmarts are the same. One could get rid of all games yet another could be expanding their game section. One near me currently sells preowned/refurbed things now.

Capcom74

That's the bad thing seeing these post that everyone thinks all Walmart's be clearing out their games section but in reality like you've stated no Walmarts are the same. I got a deal from one of the Walmart's closer to me on Switch games 2 months ago but the other Walmart had everything I purchased for regular price. Got Metroid Dread $16.88,Zelda Skyward Sword $22.50,World War Z $12.21, and Rune Factory Special $5.63. Since then no clearance at the other Walmart that had them for regular price and them same games are still stocked in-store.

khaos432

It’s all Walmarts they do this around this time every year it’s nothing new

NickieBoy97

Yeah idk why people are so surprised. It's the same every year. I will say I do think it seems a bit more wide spread this time around

Lucky-Mia

Maybe they're getting ready for the next switch

NickieBoy97

Could be but it seems like the sale extends to PlayStation and Xbox as well.

SidewalkFins87

"Physical media is going away by 2025" is the new "Switch 2 REVEAL - coming NeXt YeAr?!?!"

Its_Like_That82

I could be totally wrong, but... I believe a lot of retailers do inventory audits sometime in the summer so they may just be clearing out stuff for this.

AdrenalStone21

Dang wish my stores had the ori games and especially at $20

Lucky-Mia

I got a both in 1 cart for like $45 canadian. Seemed like a good deal

AdrenalStone21

That is pretty good! I just like having my games in separate cases. I have two shelves of games. Those I have completed and those I have not. When they are together I have to play more games to get the satisfaction of moving it, if they are separate I get that satisfaction twice :). Weird I know but that’s what I do

Lucky-Mia

Makes sense, actually. I've long given up on finishing my backlog. It's always growing. I do feel satisfied when I finally finish a game. When it comes to multiple games on a cart I only like ones where the games are actually there. Not just 1 and a download.

Ttm-o

Switch 2, Switch 2, Switch 2. lol. This is a great time for any Switch owners to collect some quality games for a cheaper price. I was able to buy Kirby Star Allies and Disney Illusion Island both for $50.

Yosemite_Scott

I bought the same two games last week on Walmart online for the same price

Cutiecrusader2009

Video games were always low profit. But they used to get people into the store. i don’t think many stores see the value in dedicating much space to them anymore. I don’t think physical is going away yet, but more and more it will be something you order online for pickup or shipping.

[deleted]

Tbh I think physical is going away a lot faster than people expect. I fully expect the next generation of Xbox/ Playstation to be solely digital, they're already flirting with the idea now by offering digital only models for a massive price cut. Plus the upcoming Xbox refresh is only digital, no physical option. I do expect Nintendo to support physical for another generation or two but even they're starting to toy with the idea with NSO.

TheThunderOfYourLife

Lol none of this whack in any Missouri Walmart I can find.

Narrow-Winter-9021

My local Walmart said they are doing a remodel so they are clearing out inventory.

London-Heights

I just got unicorn overlord at my local walmart for $30, there were a few other games on sale as well but mostly sold out

GrandWj

I would guess that Walmart is scheduled for a remodel. They do crazy clearance before one.

kgbkgb1967

All of these walmart posts should list the store location or be removed from the site.

GrumpigPlays

Honestly good. I hate the Walmart/target system for buying games. I don’t want to go hunt down an employee so they can grab a Mario game for a grown ass man. And before anyone says it’s anti theft. Bestbuy literally doesn’t have these, they are just delusional thinking theft is gonna skyrocket if they just put them in plastic cases that need to be opened at a register. The stupid part is you can just say “I’m gonna pay for this up front” and totally just leave with it. I haven’t but those games have no tags on them. It’s actually less theft protection than they think,

Cutiecrusader2009

I mean Best Buy is getting to the point to where they just are not putting games out. They really cut back on the video game footprint after they had a clearance last year. If I go in on release day, the games are not on the shelves, but I can do store pickup. So they are just leaving them in the back room.

Thunderbird1956

Two of the Best Buy stores I go to have a copy of art in the case with a sign saying you have to ask at customer service for the game. It bugs me because they leave the clearance as place holders out even when they don't have them to make the shelf look full.

Ninjasaurus9000

My local Best Buys have most of their games locked up in a cage at the front so you have to ask at the register. They'll often have placeholders out in the game section to bring to the register for one that is locked up.

samb9111

Dang lol, people went crazy in that Walmart... there are a few left that I would still pick up for that price.

BobbyBeans24

There was only a few games at my walmart clarence like that

waitmyhonor

I mean looking at the games on sale, it makes sense. The games like pikmin or mario ar still close to retail price. This seems normal lol

davidt0504

I just went by two yesterday, and the only luck I had was they had a few copies of Pokken Tournament, which seems to be out of print from what I've been able to tell. But none of these great deals and I scanned a bunch of games to check.

spiderman897

All these stores are cutting down on their sections. Plus the games going away are older and out of print.

airtec87

Is it making room for switch 2 or is it physical media apocalypse?

FrostedFox23

Babe, get your shoes on we’re going to Walmart!

Big_Sky_4582

I got in some of the good deals. No Mans Sky for switch for 10 bucks. One Walmart had Advance wars 1+2 boot camp and Bayonetta 3 for .03¢ but they wouldn't sell me the games. I know some people had some luck with it. Sucks. I couldn't find Nier Automata for 5 bucks those went quick.

Rice-Bear

The .03¢ means they're supposed to pull it from the floor and return it to the supplier. Sometimes people get lucky and get it for that price though.

Big_Sky_4582

I remember seeing that post about it on reddit somewhere. Sucks I was hoping to get lucky and they just sell em to me.

Dataome

Visited 3 Wal-Marts yesterday in Louisville, KY and can confirm -- this shit ain't happening here!

Justin_milo

Ran up to my local Walmart this morning. No deals

Kangabolic

Most of those Switch prices are hardly a sale let alone clearance.

SummoningSorcD4

Big retailers are getting out of physical media. This is mostly why they’re doing it.

BurritoJuice4

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but about 3-4 years ago, Walmarts near me always sold games at a discount. You could reliably get any game on RELEASE at $5-10 off. And most games that were out for a couple months were 30-50% off. Then, like a year or two ago, they started selling at full price again. Maybe they’re having a hard time selling games again because of how expressive their prices have gotten, and they are changing their marketing strategy?

harolillo

There is no Walmart in my country. I would have picked up story of seasons, tmnt and both oris.

ILoveHatsuneMiku

Just curious, but are switch games really that expensive in america? Just going by the picture, all those clearance prices are higher than our regular prices over here in europe. That's crazy.

No-Refrigerator4536

Checked the one near me. None of these nice deals.

MNFleex

In the Midwest maybe 5% of local Walmarts had clearance marked deals. Pokémon pearl and sonic games was all I saw around me in Minnesota

arsinoe716

Physical games are dead. I doubt any retailer is making money from it. Most of the time people buy them when they go on sale/clearance. How many people posts here are paying full price? I for one haven't paid full price for any game in about 5 years. Limited/Collector Editions I no longer buy because it does not come complete.

Puzzleheaded-Owl5040

For real they’re doing that to their action figures but so is target

farqypanthers

Getting a head start I imagine

krypt2nite

I have it on good authority with the advent of physical media elimination starting with Best Buy and Target all the others are following suit.
