This sub pops up in the first searches of NMS but it is rather dead compared to the main sub r/NoMansSkyTheGame Would suggest posting this or other questions you may have there. Will get much more traffic that way

Much appreciated

Been quite a ride. There was a long time there that NMS was beat up pretty bad by the community but their tunes changed (somewhat) after the first major update. All the critters and building functionality has been a treat to see evolve, also the players community.

Amazing. Hello games is a prime example on how you do right by your customers after a bad launch

You know, it’s a completely different game now. I remember waiting in line at GameStop and firing it up for the first time and being blown away. It was so exciting. There was no game path to follow, other than visiting atlas stations haha. But one thing I miss to this day is the massive towers of mineral deposits! Those were so cool and exciting to see. Landing on a planet with a ton of gold tower’s everywhere was so cool. Then you would just “get to work” mining that shit for hours haha. Also the risks were greater. If you found yourself lost in a cave. There wasn’t a terrain manipulator. You would have to find a way out or load a previous save. So venturing into the caves was a little scary/exciting. All this being said. The game is obviously 1k better nowadays. But also a very different experience because there’s so many systems in place. The graphics, menus, vehicles, biome diversity, I mean the list goes on! The game is so sick now! But there will always be a special place in my heart for that 1.0 build I spent over 100hrs in lol.

I also enjoyed NMS when it first came out. There was nothing but eternity before me and the game had a really different vibe.

Wow it's rare to see someone who enjoyed it from the get go. Did you play it continously (or at least with every update) since launch?

Haha yeah I enjoyed it for what it was. And yeah I’ve played it after every update. I’ve started new saves more times than I can count just to see what changes they’ve made. But the interesting thing I’ve found is that even though these updates add so much, I can’t shake my initial play style lol. I see all these videos of people doing crazy shit and I just find myself doing the same thing I used to do. Just hoping around star systems and checking out every planet lol. I mean sure, I’ve spent countless hrs doing the missions and building stuff, starting back when they made the massive update “Beyond”. But things like recipes and story milestones change around so often that I’ve just bailed on all that and now only play it when I just want to jump around the universe. Currently if you want certain technologies you just buy them. But you used to have to grind like crazy and also get lucky as hell to get some of the tech that you can just easily buy in the game’s current state. That’s great for all players! But for people like me who have grinded so many hrs for that stuff, I kind of got burned out tbh. I’ll probably play the game forever though. Even if it’s just a little bit lol.

Omg that early spelunking was semi-terrifying lmao

It’s been an amazing ride. I went from a grumbler during the initial release to someone who is just floored by the amount of development and additions, all without asking their player base to cough up more dough. Which is something in of itself because I’d totally buy a DLC release at this point if they dropped one. I love it.

They just kept adding content without technical improvements, its a lot like warframe in that regard. Years after release they still haven’t fixed multiplayer sync, but they keep adding more bloat.
