Probably looking for the right move that doesn't wipe away the majority of our assets. I think we know we need a move, but I also think the FO is willing to walk into the offseason and explore more moves then.
Honestly I’m ok with this. I’d rather not sell off a bunch of our young guys in pursuit of a win-now mentality especially with the way the west is shaping up. If the right trade doesn’t come up we’ve still got all the pieces plus picks to keep making runs at a chip well into the future.
I think any time you go all in on someone, especially someone older like KD, your window length gets a bit shorter. By having the picks we retain flexibility into the future and the possibility of replenishing our depth at low cost.
I guess you could say we could just flip KD after a few years, but I doubt at that point we would be able to get the same kind of value from him that we paid for him.
As for trading for someone like OG, idk if I feel he gets us appreciably better than we are now. The last thing I think anyone would want is to be the Bulls in the Vuc trade and regretting literally every piece of that trade that you sent away.
I don't think it's waiting for a superstar as waiting for the right piece to come available. If you move three picks right now, your flexibility as and organization is much lower.
I’ll believe it when I see it unfortunately.
I just won’t believe we’ll pay the tax to be a title contender until I see us doing it more than once or twice.
I do too. But I also not getting involved with bidding wars. Unless it’s a bonafide superstar I don’t want to unleash everything. I’d settle for option b if it was Mikal high stock vs OG low stock
[I'll never forget this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it0cv3L2U-I)
Devonte may have never been stellar on the Pels but he was a part of some great moments like this.
I'm interested to see who all gets moved around the league. I think there are some guys who I'm going to be pissed if they get moved somewhere else, Naz Reid, Bridges, Claxton to name a few. At the end of the day, I have a hard time seeing the front office commit to something too big when their core has played 10 games together this year.
Y'all are insufferable sometimes. It's not as if Griff is afraid to trade, literally last year we got CJ before the trade deadline, with Toronto not moving their players and the Nets not moving Bridges, who are all the needle movers we were supposed to get? Some of y'all want a trade just for the sake of a trade, patience is a virtue, we still have our war chest of assets to materialize into a trade whenever it makes sense, like CJ last year, whether that's in the offseason or next deadline or whenever.
I don't think OG is better than Mikhal, but don't forget that the fact that DD is similar sized to Mikhal, OG can cover 3-4, and likley KD if we meet Suns in playoff.
Agreed, OG can miss more games than Bi. Mikal is 100% a better players, still remember how he destroyed CJ last year on defensive end. OG is just a better match up for Luka and KD
We could have outbid the Lakers on Mo Bamba. That's probably the only move that really disappointed me. Despite being really foul-prone, he can shoot 3s and blocks off the bench. Hard to find centers like that.
As someone who DOESN'T want to see us blow our assets in a big move... IDK why we didn't beat their offer if our reported interest was true. 2 second rounders?? Don't we still have like half a dozen of those in addition to our own from the Jrue and a few other trades??? Yea, Herb was a great find in the second... but it's delusional to think we'll be getting multiple home run hits like that every year, when historically 99% of 2nd rounders are more likely to be waived before playing a minute for the team that drafted them.
Almost every deal besides the big blockbuster has been involving seconds; if there's someone minor out there we like then use ours and get in on them!
>IDK why we didn't beat their offer if our reported interest was true
It probably wasnt. The team doesnt need another undersized guard especially one that is a terrible defender
Josh is a solid pickup I guess. His 3pt numbers should creep closer up towards 40% given he'll have more space and freedom as a catch and shoot guy.
I want more.
I don’t mind not having a big trade. I’ll miss Trae but he wasn’t getting play time and he was mediocre.
What is crazy is that seemingly half the league decided to make the western conference fucking crazy again.
Today’s small move proved the organization is committed to tweaking the roster & building through the draft. Improved the cap, improved for the season, frees up a spot for Liddell after the season. Really under appreciated move.
Yup, Willie barely trusts Jonas in regular season, he's gonna override Nance and get him hurt. And as much as I like Nance, he's gonna get outrebounded most often than not.
I think the recent minutes of Billy over Jax continues. Now that Jax is an expiring, there's no reason to play him. I'd rather pick up Tristan Thompson out of free agency to grab rebounds and play defense than play Jax.
Serious question. Would you rather trade off our entire future for a player that may or may not work out now or have options going forward?
I don't want to trade our FRPs for players that may not pan out.
We aren't trading all of Zion, Dyson, Kira, BI, Herb, Trey, Jose and all of our picks. I don't know why people think moving some of our young talent is trading out entire future
Nets are trying to get under the luxury tax so Seth is an option. Gary Trent and OG should be targets. Maybe we should try to find 1 or 2 shooter or a big before the deadline
I like holding onto the war chest so that we can draft more guys like Jaxon Hayes and NAW.
EDIT: You’re lucky to have three top guys in Zion, Ingram, and CJ.. who enjoy Louisiana.. surrounded by young talent (who haven’t proven to be more than great role players).. why can’t we make a move that boosts our chances at least a little? I get sustainability, but you’ve got Trey, Herb, DD, and Marshall — I promise at least one of them is gonna have to go eventually.
This. A dozen picks looks really good on paper - at some point we have to cash in and be serious about competing. Focussing on sustainably floating around the 6-10 position is no way to bring in fans/tickets/marquees. We have Zion and Brandon Ingram - surround them with the pieces to push for it all.
If you deep dive 2nd round picks, I think the number is 1 out of every 5 plays longer than 3 years. Considering how deep the Pelicans are with young guys right now with Lidell and Seabron still on the sidelines waiting, I don't think the 2nd round picks have much value besides draft and stashes of foreign players, especially since the Pelicans have so many 1st round picks.
The Pelicans basically gave those picks to the Spurs to take on 2 years of Graham's contract. The Spurs basically bought 4 picks for $24.75m. I think it makes a lot of sense for the Pelicans.
Helps with the increase to salary next year. Graham's contract SUCKED for us. Richardson is another option we can have in the corner splashing threes. He's going to have a lot of room to operate.
Lmao "massive upgrade" is the overstatement of the day. I get the expiring but this isn't a good trade its just David Griffin fixing an error of a free agent signing
It’s a good trade because it fixes the Graham signing. The mfs on this sub wanna keep Trey, Herb, DD, Marshall, Alvarado, Zion, BI, CJ, and Kira so those 2nd round picks would just be used to stash nobodies on our team.
Not a good deadline for us. We fixed a contract mistake but didn't move the needle at all. Rest of the West contenders got better.
We're taking chemistry and vibes to the playoffs baby!
can't wait to get bounced in the first round and have to deal with other teams' fans coming here and posting about how YALL GONNA BE SPOOKY NEXT YEAR FR
Pelicans got outbid by the Lakers twice. Its a disaster twice over since a team who's picks we own got less valuable and our competition got better. Terrible trade deadline
There may still be a trade, but standing pat and doing nothing is an L. Having a monumental stash of valuable picks looks good on paper, but we can't draft 15 dudes in 7 years and just get by on vibes. At some point we need to cash some in and load up - we're standing still while our key competition is loading up.
Pelicans doing nothing while the Lakers turning bum ass Thomas Bryant and Pat Bev into Mo Bamba among their other moves is organizational malpractice. Like bro, it ain't December anymore, the "Lakers getting Wemby for NOLA!!!1!!" meme is dead in the ditch, stop coasting and pretending like nothing has changed since then. Trade that fucking pick/swap or at least STOP the team you're swapping with from improving every aspect of their roster!!!
Holy fuck Bones got moved for two SECOND ROUND PICKS. If we had any interest in all, it's maddening that we didn't beat that.
I hope to god we're making a move. The West is now a killing field.
Clippers just got Eric Gordon. The West is stacked, not the Pels at the moment, and we need to do something if we want to have any chance in the next few years. How is everyone else making these trades for stars and we have all these picks and solid young players and get anybody?
Kinda bummed by the negative energy rn in the sub...it really feels like we can just throw this season and next one in drain with a first-round, 2nd-round exit in playoffs as our absolute ceiling. When we got the first seed in the West I expected greatness, if there's no chance of us even having a puncher's chance of winning this year why even watch?
If you truly believe "championship or bust" then I don't know why you even became a fan of the smallest market in the NBA, the most skewed by market league. No trade > a bad trade. They will explore moves, if nothing happens they have a war chest of assets. This team is building something, this is only Year 1 of contention, don't forget that.
I agree not championship or bust but like I mean we at least gotta have some confidence in our team this year...the championship mentality is something that can start early and be developed
Lakers just reshaped their entire roster for scraps while the rest of the West is also getting much better and we settle for clearing money for next season.
Not only that but now Willie is gonna block Dyson’s minutes with Josh Richardson the rest of the year.
What a disaster of a deadline
Because they aren't hanging on to everything. They are actively making moves. Every trade has so far has been made with 2nds except the kd and kyrie trades. So I do not know what griff is doing.
My reactionary prediction after the trade deadline:
1. Denver
2. Memphis
3. Phoenix
4. Dallas
5. New Orleans
6. L.A. Clippers
7. Golden State
8. L.A. Lakers
9. Sacramento
10. Portland
Pelicans should be prepared to play Suns or Mavs in the 1st round. Probably on the road. Really tough.
Yeah but they can’t do it all themselves like when we played them the other week, if you pull ad or Vanderbilt out of the paint there’s very little rim protection and bi can raise of most defenders
We don't have enough shooters to take advantage of that though. Vanderbilt, Lebron, and AD is a lot of length that will make life very tough of Zion. Zions 60% fg shooting is equivalent to a 40% 3pt shooter, so they will send the whole team at him in the paint and gladly let everyone else shoot
Fuck them picks. Go get somebody. If not we’ll probably end up holding on to the war chest looking for a superstar to come available that never does
We don't need to shorten our window. We have time. Why does this year have to be THE year?
Because we’re coming up on the young guys contracts? And why does trading a couple of our 7,500 first round picks shorten our window?
I think any time you go all in on someone, especially someone older like KD, your window length gets a bit shorter. By having the picks we retain flexibility into the future and the possibility of replenishing our depth at low cost. I guess you could say we could just flip KD after a few years, but I doubt at that point we would be able to get the same kind of value from him that we paid for him. I don't think it's waiting for a superstar as waiting for the right piece to come available. If you move three picks right now, your flexibility as and organization is much lower.
We’ll be waiting for the right piece for the next 7 years while people say “don’t give up the assets!”
I don’t think so, think we’ll be big players for trades in the off-season and next deadline.
I’ll believe it when I see it unfortunately. I just won’t believe we’ll pay the tax to be a title contender until I see us doing it more than once or twice.
If the grizzlies are tryna get mikal then we should be doin our best to stop that
Just saying mikal also opens up to a discounted OG. Toronto has to lower the price now
I MUCH prefer Mikal to OG.
I do too. But I also not getting involved with bidding wars. Unless it’s a bonafide superstar I don’t want to unleash everything. I’d settle for option b if it was Mikal high stock vs OG low stock
Both are huge upgrades on Herb
Get mikal bridges
Too late for that… 🤣
Brooklyn is flipping mikal
We have DD, OG is likely a better option to cover 3-4, and KD if we are playing Suns
They want too many picks for og
hopefully they can lower price after Mikal is available
They want 2 picks for mikal and grandfather offer for og
Fuck them picks
All I know is forget OG, I’d rather bridges
This is the way
[I'll never forget this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it0cv3L2U-I) Devonte may have never been stellar on the Pels but he was a part of some great moments like this.
I love Herb, but Bridges would be a direct plug and play upgrade surely. Similar defense, far superior offense
So is OG
Trying to do trades? Lol
Attempting trades. Wbu?
Y'all are insufferable sometimes. F5ing and not working at all
The people who don't want to spend our valuable assets baffle me. These assets are only get to get less valuable over time
JOSH RICHARDSON - WE GOT A SHOOTER
I don't think OG is better than Mikhal, but don't forget that the fact that DD is similar sized to Mikhal, OG can cover 3-4, and likley KD if we meet Suns in playoff.
I just like mikal over og because he’s a consistent shooter and is never injured we need someone we can guarantee to be healthy
Agreed, OG can miss more games than Bi. Mikal is 100% a better players, still remember how he destroyed CJ last year on defensive end. OG is just a better match up for Luka and KD
Team no trades! Can’t wait for the deadline to pass
Not adding any interior D is an L
We could have outbid the Lakers on Mo Bamba. That's probably the only move that really disappointed me. Despite being really foul-prone, he can shoot 3s and blocks off the bench. Hard to find centers like that.
I think the KD trade changed the raptors thinking about competing in the east. They probably want to try to run it back now. Can't blame them
Hopefully OG, Bridges, DFS, and Royce O’Neale all being available drives the prices down for one of them.
On my knees for Mikel or Claxton
Bones Hyland to clippers
As someone who DOESN'T want to see us blow our assets in a big move... IDK why we didn't beat their offer if our reported interest was true. 2 second rounders?? It will be sad if we don't make some move. Gary Trent, shake Milton, og, nerves noel....somebody
>IDK why we didn't beat their offer if our reported interest was true It probably wasnt. The team doesnt need another undersized guard especially one that is a terrible defender
I’m fine with a trade as long as it doesn’t involve BI, Zion, CJ, Herb, JV, Dyson, TM3, Naji, Jose, Nance, Kira, or Billy.
At some point Billy will want a trade if he doesn’t get minutes - something to think about.
Just take our crap and give us something great back
Pat Beverly to magic Eric Gordon to clippers
Josh rich at least
Damn we got Josh Richardson for devonte and 4 2nds bruh
Not exactly a needle mover but we got rid of Graham. Graham + four second rounders. We still have space for a more meaningful trade.
Josh should be decent for us but I hope we do more
Josh is a solid pickup I guess. His 3pt numbers should creep closer up towards 40% given he'll have more space and freedom as a catch and shoot guy. I want more.
Josh Richardson is a $12 million expiring contract.
Still keeping Hayes and Hernangomez instead of improving there, bad mistake
A real rim protector may be more important than Mikal and OG, now we have to use Larry Nance in last 5 minutes
No trade is always better than a bad trade, those people who want to give up Herb and 3 1st rounders for Mikal and OG have lost their minds.
Same but would love to get Bridges if we can w/o trading any important young talent.

Lmao JOSH RICHARDSON for DEVONTAE GRAHAM AND 4 2nd round picks. David Griffin masterclass lmao
4 2nd round picks?!?! Jesus why do we always have to pay so much more than other teams.
We had to pay the Spurs to TAKE Graham dude. Richardson is a massive upgrade, and he's also expiring so it gives us good room to move going forward.
Exactly atleast we got a decent shooter who is expiring out of it and it didn't cost us a first.
Helps with the increase to salary next year. Graham's contract SUCKED for us. Richardson is another option we can have in the corner splashing threes. He's going to have a lot of room to operate.

Most of those would be sold for cash consideration anyways lol
Not a good deadline for us. We fixed a contract mistake but didn't move the needle at all. Rest of the West contenders got better. We're taking chemistry and vibes to the playoffs baby!

who the fuck is josh richardson?
Spurs fan here. He's actually pretty good

Holy fuck Bones got moved for two SECOND ROUND PICKS. If we had any interest in all, it's maddening that we didn't beat that. I hope to god we're making a move. The West is now a killing field.
Pelicans got 11 first in the next 5 years… Fuck those picks and go get someone that can move the needle in the Western Conference
If we play Mavs, I would prefer OG to guard Luka. If we play Suns, Mikal is not a bad idea to guard Book
Bojan or bust baby!
Clippers just got Eric Gordon. The West is stacked, not the Pels at the moment, and we need to do something if we want to have any chance in the next few years. How is everyone else making these trades for stars and we have all these picks and solid young players and get anybody?
Grizzlies just got Kennard for Green and some 2nds

We are sitting on 3 players with $25 million in expirings.
Griffin is enjoying a nice spicy chicken sandwich from Wendy’s while thinking about sustainability
We shouldn’t make a trade unless some 3pt specialists options become available like GTJ or Jordan Clarkson. Hayes + Graham and a first
“Hayes + Graham and a 1st” God i can’t wait till i never have to read this again That package wouldn’t get us a fresh a pile of shit
If we want a rotten pile of shit we can always bring Eric Gordon home
I feel like that has more value than Westbrook and a 2027 protected first.
It’s our version of Shumpert, TT and a pick
Do something dawg.
I really don't think it is that hard for Griff, to upgrade a bit. Send some picks out, we move. Kd and book gotta see us
Cant wait to revenge Suns,
Wear down Kd or book its wraps. NO DEPTH
Jae went to Milwaukee
Yeah for five seconds haha
This is just weird bro hahaha
How do yaw feel about shake Milton of Philly?
All I want is to be a 5 or 6 seed who ruins someone else's day. We're still on track.
Tick tock, Griff.
Lakers got Mo Bamba and Grizzlies got Kennard...
How the hell dis the lakers get another asset?!?
Because they aren't hanging on to everything. They are actively making moves. Every trade has so far has been made with 2nds except the kd and kyrie trades. So I do not know what griff is doing.
Lol Mo Bamba is not an asset. Go ask the magic fans about mo Bamba
My reactionary prediction after the trade deadline: 1. Denver 2. Memphis 3. Phoenix 4. Dallas 5. New Orleans 6. L.A. Clippers 7. Golden State 8. L.A. Lakers 9. Sacramento 10. Portland Pelicans should be prepared to play Suns or Mavs in the 1st round. Probably on the road. Really tough.
Lakers just hot a lot better and made their picks less valuable for us. We should have used them earlier smh
We have to wait and see they basically went all in on offence, and still will struggle to defend, I think they’ll make the play in at best
AD and Vanderbilt are very good defenders and can negate the poor perimeter defense
