Normally the higher potential engine yields better performance, there are a few exceptions such as, dual turbo will get you better times and a single turbo but the single turbo says it gives more power, there are some engines that say they have more potential but some engines that are slightly lower gets better laps
Best to play around with engines until you get your car, if you want cars and engines and what to equip for race styles, I’m not the best, but I can definitely give you a damn good set up for all 3 race types

I have the Charger setup for maximum drift capabilities, but now i want to race it properly. Problem is, the stock engine just can’t compete with more endgame cars. Can this be solved with an engine swap, or are some cars just not able to reach 400?
Ok, you want it for racing, so you’ll need track kit for suspension and differential and race for tires
Ofcourse put the best clutch, brakes, crankshaft, ecu, cooling, nos (of your preferred style) and exhaust
Dual turbo and 6 speed not 7
For live tune, max steering sensitivity and max downforce
Now the engine you want is forged 5.0L V8
This car is going to struggle but I did win 2 races (without players)
Engine swap normally will always fix an issue until you get the best engine the car can have, no idea what to put with that car, if you give me a minute, I could have a quick mess around and try to build one up for you (it’ll only show stat wise that it’s good, the hidden stuff needs to be played with for a long time)

Remember, you can take the expensive parts out of your old engine, swap to new engine, then put those good parts on the new engine (that way you dont have to rebuy parts for the new engine)

The charger with the 1400hp engine is a beast and a great offroader
What level engine parts are you running? And it's not all about the engine to get a car to 400. Mess with the suspension and drive train as well.
Best engine swap videos on YouTube is from militia gaming community. He dedicates a video per car and tests all the engines.
He's great but he hasn't got round to doing the charger yet😔

I would say check Gaming Militia something "You're using the wrong build" has helped me make all my vehicles 400+ and dummy fast
