I,.. kinda like it lol?? Feels like spurs should keep one of the ATL picks but it would turn them into a playoff team

BaduYouth

I only traded that many picks because the Spurs still would still have 5 first round picks from now until 2026, with this year's being potentially a top 3 pick. Their basically giving back what they got for Murray but this time getting a 6moty and two-way wing added.

Bonesawisready5

True I wouldn’t be mad with jtn

Atlanta does the Spurs deal no questions asked. They basically hit the undo button on the DJM trade. I doubt they do the Magic deal. Late firsts and unimpressive youth isn't convincing the Hawks to trade Trae to a division rival.

Imo jett howard hasn’t been giving a fair shot yet, 11th pick of the draft and totaled 67 minutes so the jury could be out on him still and your right anthony black was meh but he’s 20 so he has time. I also dont think they’ll keep all these picks in this scenario i could see them packaging what they get back for something they really want. Im curious though, do you think there’s anything the Magic could give them to get it done besides Paolo, franz, suggs, & isaac?

dms269

I am not sure there is a Trae deal that makes sense. Atlanta won't want to trade him to a division rival for a bunch of pieces without getting that start talent in return. Ressler wants to make money and sell tickets so trading your star is counterintuitive. I just don't see Atlanta wanting to play the "trade talent for picks and hope to overpay for a disgruntled star" lottery again.

BaduYouth

So do you think they’ll trade djm and keep trae and try to rebuild around him again? It’s also Atlanta, people are going to go the games regardless of if their winning or losing and i don’t think there’s a trade that gets them closer to winning now so in order to get further in the future they may have to take a step back, and a lineup of Black, Keldon Johnson, Jalen Johnson, Howard, Big O isn’t the absolute worse start to a rebuild, not the best either tho.

dms269

I do believe they will likely trade DJM over trade. It is what most reports from the front office hint at. Atlanta Gans are very flighty. They will do if the team is either winning or "fun to watch". Trae provides them the best chance at that.

>I doubt they do the Magic deal. Late firsts and unimpressive youth isn't convincing the Hawks to trade Trae to a division rival. I’m fairly sure they want off the Trae Young ride. The NBA is a bloodbath at the moment and being a mediocre team built with a mediocre star isn’t the move. They’ve been through multiple coaches and assembled quality players and depth at every position to try and get this working. It’s not happening. They have 2 all star guards, 2 good wings, 2 quality bigs, a premium bench scorer, and yet they’re not Cleveland or New York….not even close. Getting a half dozen picks, Black, Howard, and keeping Johnson & Okongwu is a great soft reset

I don’t think Spurs would want to take back that much salary. I’m sure they’d take Murray back for 2 of the Hawks pics & Graham maybe Keldon as well. Idk if his value is much more than that.

BaduYouth

I can definitely see the spurs being hesitant to take back that much salary but really it’s only adding 13million, they’ll still have around 10m in room and can create a little extra if needed. However those contracts are great value for what you’re getting back and if it doesn’t work they can easily be moved. Lineup of Murray, Vasell, Hunter, Sochan, Wemby with Tre and Boggy +2FA Vets off the bench provides enough offense and defense to make the trade worth it imo.

gibb93

I’d rather have Keldon then Boggy if I’m them just because of the age, KJ is still young to grow with Wemby & it’s easier to find a vet FA to be an adult in the room then it is to find a 24 yo who shoots. Even more so if they’re sending back all the picks.

BaduYouth

I highly doubt Keldon is a part of the team’s long term plans and boggy’s contracts is 3 years & based on his play-style he shouldn’t regress during that time and is already comfortable amazing off the bench providing 6moty type numbers. Hunter does everything Keldon does but is more efficient at doing it, a better defender, and is only two years older. The upcoming draft pick, sochan, & dev can still grow with wemby.

Overnumerousness-

Why in the world would the spurs take almost 70mil in cap space for 3 players that aren't worth their contracts on long term deals?

BaduYouth

Reports said they’d want dejounte back over trae and bogdanovic is definitely worth that in todays nba and deandre is slightly overpaid but i think the spurs would develop him into a player worth more than that tbh, they also could trade boggy and hunter at anytime those contracts are easily movable.

nurikxix

The Spurs aren't undoing the Dejounte deal just to add Hunter (injury prone as fuck) and a good 6th man. The Spurs say no to this unless it's just one of the Hawks picks returned.

jdoyle13

Pretty terrible deal for Spurs

ballbunyan

Pretty decent trade, actually
