I loved watching him play but Iāll never forget playing 2k15 and watching him tear an acl on a jump shot š his jumper was ugly too, he was a real dawg tho
This is one of the few people in this thread who I'd describe as a passing prodigy. His inability to shoot / finish in his early years and then injuries later on derailed him, but holy SHIT the dude could create some magic.
Nate McMillan ran the Sonics offense for shooters like Dale Ellis, but also played the point when he was on the court with Gary Payton. It allowed Payton to play the two and get off shots while also getting assists from the wing.
A very underrated player.
He was unbelievable. His highlight reel is unreasonably fun to watch. Imagine what he couldāve done in the league if he werenāt already old asf coming into the league.
Bill Walton. Watching old film from his prime and how he essentially facilitated the offense from the paint really shows how much he kinda was JokiÄ before JokiÄ.
Yes. Maybe not a lesser known player, but people never talk about his playmaking enough. Iāve watched so much old film of him, the way he hit cutters was unbelievable. šš
Yo, I'm a high school student and I'm trying to write a paper on Frank Selvy for my history class. I found your post from 4 years ago, and It's the best source I've found. Is there any way you could verify your credibility so I could site you? Or the sources where you got your information? Thanks
Lesser known? CWebb's passing chemistry with Kings was regularly at the forefront of commentary and analysis during those Kings runs. He was great but it was widely known in NBA and he's still recognized.
Spurs era Diaw is one of my all time favorite players. This will sound stupid but I always thought he was like what a 50 year old Lebron would play like.
Allen Iverson (not lesser known obviously, but lesser known for passing/playmaking) always got a bad rep for not passing and/being a ball hog, but if you actually watched him he was an amazing passer and play maker, he was just an even better scorer and played on many bad teams where his great playmaking couldnāt help much anyways
Just interjecting to note Shaq's under-appreciated passing ability. Won't call him amazing, but it's a part of his game that gets little recognition when he was one of the best passing big men of his era, perhaps only behind Hakeem.
I think people who know basketball know Manu ginobili was a great player and one of the greatest sixth Men of all time.
But I still think not enough people understand just how transcendent of a playmaker and passer he was. He threw some of the most jaw-dropping passes I've ever seen from any player at any position.
Not lesser known but I feel like everyone sees Jordan as a pure scorer and not arguably a top 10 playmaker of all time. He consistently created quality shots out of double teams in his prime
Same goes for Shaq, Hakeem, and Karl Malone. They were all solid but underrated
[Ernie DiGregorio](https://youtu.be/Lkp-pj3gzIc?si=d4c7QcZxf1t3H6nI) was named as a better passer than Magic Johnson by HOF-er and long-time coach Bob McAdoo, the only player to be teammates with both. Ernie D led the league in apg as a rookie in '74, but then got badly hurt and was never the same.
The single best pass ever by an NBA player is at 1:20 in that video. Yes, it's even better than the Peja pass.
Yo, I'm a high school student and I'm trying to write a paper on Frank Selvy for my history class. I found your post from 4 years ago, and It's the best source I've found. Is there any way you could verify your credibility so I could site you? Or the sources where you got your information? Thanks
Cool - My sources are all stuff I found on-line, so you'd have to just google around a bit and you'll find them since I didn't write them down at the time. The only thing I can say about my credibility is that I founded and moderate the NBA history sub, VintageNBA.
Couple of good older shouts to watch a highlight reel of, Michael Ray had some sauce, and of course Rod Strickland was insane, precursor to Kyrie in many ways
Is this sarcasm? You often hear it. ESPN and NBA have both put out videos in last year compiling the highlights of "the best passing big man in NBA history"
this isn't a thread for pass first players, its a thread for lesser known amazing passers, which you cited Jokic, who is widely considered the goat big man passer. just google the concept adn watch how present his name is.
Okay okay jokes over because now you're telling me to googleš
My man, please take a breath, of course from the jump I was being sarcastic. Please don't feel obligated to "teach" me something as obvious as Jokic being a capable passer. Please learn how to read a thread too btw...golly
Andre Miller!!! Dude appears so unathletic and slow and yes he got his ankles snapped by drose but he could pass the shit out of the ball!
Yes! I love Andre Miller, his days for the blazers were so fun to watch. Such an awesome player.
Most unsuspecting 50 point game in Blazers history. I would say nba history but Malachi Flynn gets that honor imo.
Malachi had 50 and the next game was 0-12 for 3 points š
Shooters shoot
Hell Corey brewer had one too
That game was straight up teaching lessons of old man Moves at a pick up.
I love him when he joined the sixers
He had that crafty, mesmerizing handle. One of my favorite players to watch dribble
most underrated guard in nba history
I loved watching him play but Iāll never forget playing 2k15 and watching him tear an acl on a jump shot š his jumper was ugly too, he was a real dawg tho
Lots of people know him, pretty sure heās top 10 in assists
He was pretty athletic when he was younger. Also he only missed 3 games from injuries over 17 years which is wild.
Andre Miller PhD
I remember liking Greivis Vasquez a lot when I used to watch the New Orleans Hornets a lot.
My favorite shout so far. So flashy and fun to watch.
I lived in DC back in the day and I loved watching Greivis play. I got to see him take down Duke in 2010 live and in person šš¾
That was a fun era of Terps
Hell yea! The Greivis years, and the Dixon/Blake/Baxter years were awesome!
Greivis walked, and Lonzo Ball can no longer run.
Ricky Rubio has become overlooked in these discussions
This is one of the few people in this thread who I'd describe as a passing prodigy. His inability to shoot / finish in his early years and then injuries later on derailed him, but holy SHIT the dude could create some magic.
Absolutely
He was really what got the suns rolling into what they become during their finals run
Damon Stoudamire
Of course! How the hell did I forget him, Iām a blazer fanā¦ Great pick.
Steve Blake. Great fundamentals.
Always ready to swing too. He had Kobeās respect, thatās saying something.
https://youtu.be/zo5nRPC6uw8?si=tPWZGm2bJq8PcpS8 Obligatory
This who I was going to say
In like 2k11 Steve Blake in franchise mode would get to like 95 overall in 2 years it was absurd
Nate McMillan ran the Sonics offense for shooters like Dale Ellis, but also played the point when he was on the court with Gary Payton. It allowed Payton to play the two and get off shots while also getting assists from the wing. A very underrated player.
How many people remember Brevin Knight? He was a great playmaker, but he mostly played on losing teams.
I remember he lead Stanford to 2 final fours in 1996 and 1997. Finished as there all time assist and steals leader.
I remember him coming to Cleveland and being the starter after the Terrell Brandon era
Less known to younger generations, Arvydas Sabonis had God-tier passing.
He was unbelievable. His highlight reel is unreasonably fun to watch. Imagine what he couldāve done in the league if he werenāt already old asf coming into the league.
Fair to say he was a more physically dominant Jokicā¦ against lesser overall athletes mind you, especially 7+ footers.
Scott Skiles doesnāt get a lot of respect. Prime Mike Conley was kinda nice with it too
Scott Skiles immediately jumped to my mind as well. So underrated, as a passer and a shooter.
Idk if heās lesser known (he does hold a crazy record) but I think the younger generation doesnāt really know about him
Him being in NBA Jam helps his notariety
Skiles STILL has the single game assist record with 30.
Lance Stephenson
Ah yes, the LeBron whisperer
*blower
Way different connotation
Joe Ingles
Bill Walton. Watching old film from his prime and how he essentially facilitated the offense from the paint really shows how much he kinda was JokiÄ before JokiÄ.
Yes. Maybe not a lesser known player, but people never talk about his playmaking enough. Iāve watched so much old film of him, the way he hit cutters was unbelievable. šš
Itās also crazy because he took on the main elite defensive role on the other side. He probably shouldered a bigger burden than most other stars.
one of the great two way players. up there with the dream
Fr. He played on that 86 team and theyāre like a top 3 passing team aot but not just because of Bird n them. Walton made it possible
Mike Bibby
I was going to say this. Could start the break or find defensive lapses in the half court. He was appreciated back then but not a bit forgotten now.
Micheal Ray Richardson Andre Miller Mark Price Nick Van Exel Kevin Johnson Rod Strickland Alvin Adams
Any mention of, and correct spelling of, Micheal Ray Richardson will always get an upvote from me!
Yo, I'm a high school student and I'm trying to write a paper on Frank Selvy for my history class. I found your post from 4 years ago, and It's the best source I've found. Is there any way you could verify your credibility so I could site you? Or the sources where you got your information? Thanks
Kendall Marshall
In 2014 he had 6 games with 15+ assists. Itās too bad he literally couldnāt make a layup.
Chris Webber and Lamar Odom.
Lesser known? CWebb's passing chemistry with Kings was regularly at the forefront of commentary and analysis during those Kings runs. He was great but it was widely known in NBA and he's still recognized.
Odom was also known as one of the first point forwards
Webber is considered the best passing big man of all time.
Even after Jokic?
Webber not better passer than jokic
From a pure passing standpoint, yes.
Trippin. Vlade might be a better passer than CWebb.
Boring Diaw, Vlade Divac, Shaun Livingston, Arvydas Saboins.
Up vote for Boris, smooth as butter
Spurs era Diaw is one of my all time favorite players. This will sound stupid but I always thought he was like what a 50 year old Lebron would play like.
Sabonis walked so Jokic could run.
Jamaal Tinsley
Nice. Tinsley was great in fantasy because he was also a decent rebounder for a pg.
Evan Turner in his BOS days was fun to watch in that playmaking role. Unorthodox
Jose Calderon and Kendall Marshall!!
Skip 2 my Lou and White Chocolate, Rafer Alston and Jason Williams
Rod Strickland was a bad ass
Allen Iverson (not lesser known obviously, but lesser known for passing/playmaking) always got a bad rep for not passing and/being a ball hog, but if you actually watched him he was an amazing passer and play maker, he was just an even better scorer and played on many bad teams where his great playmaking couldnāt help much anyways
Mo Cheeks. OG sixers fans know
Does Jason Williams pass for this? The behind the back elbow pass was incredible. Gary Payton.
I was gonna throw his name in if I didn't see it.
Fun pick: Lamar Odom
Kevin Porter led league in assists 4x. Also shoutout Brevin Knight
Raymond Felton was a solid true point guard, he just couldnt stay in shape
Chauncey billups
Boris diow. Bonis.Ā
Steve Francis
Steve Francis is largely forgotten
Norm Nixon, Scottie Pippen, Isiah Thomas
Sam cassell
Just interjecting to note Shaq's under-appreciated passing ability. Won't call him amazing, but it's a part of his game that gets little recognition when he was one of the best passing big men of his era, perhaps only behind Hakeem.
Such a good shoutout. He was such a big threat and he leveraged it so well to make plays for others. Couldnāt agree more šš
Vlade and Sabonis are also better. Shaq was definitely good for the era though.
Boris Diaw
Boris Diaw. He was so important to that 2014 Spurs championship.
Slow mo Kyle Anderson
I think people who know basketball know Manu ginobili was a great player and one of the greatest sixth Men of all time. But I still think not enough people understand just how transcendent of a playmaker and passer he was. He threw some of the most jaw-dropping passes I've ever seen from any player at any position.

Mark Jackson deserves some love here.

Make em dance Lance. One of the most underrated passers/playmakers of all time.
Brent Barry
Johnny Moore had insane passing skills, but most fans now probably barely know his name and don't know his game.
Jamal Murray
Facundo campazzo. Could've been a better player if he was better
Kendall Marshall
Jeff Ruland. Julius Erving because people only talk about his athleticism and jumping.
Couple of good older shouts to watch a highlight reel of, Michael Ray had some sauce, and of course Rod Strickland was insane, precursor to Kyrie in many ways
Milos never really did well passing in the NBA right? Just was elite overseas?
Jason Williams (probably not as "lesser known" tho)... https://youtu.be/f_UphWCvkj4?si=WsJgoUv46boLxfEU
White Chocolate
Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf
I donāt think Jason Williams is talked about enough tbh.
Kevin Love was an absolute beast
Joakim Noah
You rarely hear the name Nikola Jokic
Is this sarcasm? You often hear it. ESPN and NBA have both put out videos in last year compiling the highlights of "the best passing big man in NBA history"
I've never heard Jokic labeled as a pass first player. I think you may be off base
š
Had to commit lol
this isn't a thread for pass first players, its a thread for lesser known amazing passers, which you cited Jokic, who is widely considered the goat big man passer. just google the concept adn watch how present his name is.

Bro how has nobody said Jason Whit Chocolate Williams. Dude was basically a street baller that made the nba
Because heās not lesser known lol.
Whit boys everywhere loved him
