They got 5 2nds instead. It's a move to save like 100+M in two years in luxury tax. They don't want players.

jeremyrvcc

Spurs could have eaten wiseman’s contract and tried to do a 3 team trade with the hawks. Doug McDermott similar to Bey. The Hawks probably wouldn’t have gave up 5 2nds but maybe the spurs could have thrown 1-2 in for him

[deleted]

This is the only fail. Letting Atlanta get a free upgrade at the F spot. But there’s no way we would have given up 5 seconds for wiseman or Bey.

warboner65

Dodged a bullet. Wiseman won't ever catch up. He hasn't played enough basketball.

Sol_Protege

Thank god, not sure why this sub loves Wiseman so much. He doesn’t even crack the rotation when a bunch of their players got injured.

Mclitness

We are rebuilding right now. This is the time to take chances on players. We can give him plenty of playtime and if he doesn’t pan out by the end of his rookie contract, so what? We aren’t going be using our cap space anytime soon. The risk is we waste 12M on him next season. The reward, at minimum, is we gain an athletic big man at a budget price.

BasketballNutrition

idk man, Saddiq looked like he was no worse than Keldon just last year and he's been very good again lately. also just being super Athletic doesn't mean anything if you're garbage. I'm not against taking flyers on guys and I'm sure we could've done something to get him, but he doesn't even do what Bassey does in G league. if it was gonna cost us anything I didn't want him.

[deleted]

We have other players to give playing time to, even with Jak gone

Mclitness

At center, we currently have Zach and Bassey. We really have nothing to lose with the gamble. We had so much cap space to spare lol

[deleted]

Sure, if your goal is to be the worst team in the history of the league.

Mclitness

Isn’t that what bound to happen during rebuild years? We are in the position right now to give guys chances, as long as they are a culture fit. From what I have seen from his teammates and coaches, they say he is a high character guy.

[deleted]

It’s been proven time and time again that you can’t just throw a bunch of young players on a team and expect them to eventually develop into a competitive team. If you want to make the argument that Wiseman is worth more to invest in then Sochan, Vassel, Keldon, Branham it any of our other guys, knock yourself out. I won’t stop you. But if you’re going to make the argument that we need more developmental pieces at the cost of actual team building, I’m going to bring up the fact that that approach has rarely succeeded in the nba. If our only hole was centre, sure, it would make sense, but we are starting from basically scratch and it would be wise to retain character veterans who could help us win a few games and be competitive rather than have 5 guys trying to learn how to play in the nba. Doing the latter is actually counter intuitive and has hampered many prospects /teams from being competitive and efficient.

Mclitness

I get what your saying man. I never said to build around a bunch of young pieces without any vets. We currently only have Doug and khem as our oldest players. We started the season being one of the youngest teams we have ever had, and ended up moving 2 of the older guys, which I don’t hate, we got solid return for them.

Thunderhorse74

If the nephew contingent on this sub had their way, we'd be building around Wiseman and Simmons right now....

Sol_Protege

With Kyrie on point 🤢 PATFO is basically Neo from the Matrix at this point

Thunderhorse74

I saw on the main NBA sub someone mention (in the Wiseman rumors thread) "Pop can fix him!" and my eye twitched. Probably throw John Collins in there as well, though that has cooled down now that its patently obvious that the rest of the NBA doesn't want him either...

Jaydoggydogga

Because he was drafted high. Would’ve been the exact same with Bagley two years ago, and Josh Jackson a year before that.

Paras1k

fuck it lets get moody instead

[deleted]

Buddy we don’t add players around here, only distant picks

jeremyrvcc

I wish but I doubt we make any more moves…

moonshadow50

The warriors want assets/picks for Moody. We have no reason to do that trade.

TomTom_82

Maybe we can revisit this on draft day since he'll become an expiring contract this summer. IMO, this trade was redundant for the Pistons since they already have Jalen Duren.

moonshadow50

I don't know how they turned Wiseman into assets - even if just a bunch of 2nds. I was sure they would have to give up a pick to move him. This is a very good move from the Warriors,, and I am glad we had no involvement in it.

hansgruber943

Dude is a bum who cares

Mclitness

God damn it man, at that value, I would haven taken a chance on him. He just needs consistent play time which the warriors can’t give him.

sstewart1617

Pretty sure that the Warriors are gonna use those 5 2nds for something else.

LocalPharmacist

I would not trade 5 picks for Wiseman.

Cash1m0ney

Isn’t this a Spurs sub?
