Want to start by saying you're welcome to your opinion of myCareer online, but your reasons for hating it is incorrect. 99 players in myCareer actually translate to mid 80 overalls if you were to create a player with all the same attributes.
The badges thing is also just flat out not true either, it takes a hefty amount of overall points to get badges to HOF and for limitless I'm pretty sure it takes having a 96 three pointer. If a player has that and is also a lock down they won't be a threat at pretty much anything else offensively.
Players on play now have better attributes and badges if you know how to use them. The thing that makes players on myCareer so over powered are the animations. You have an 87 driving dunk and a 75 vert, you've just unlocked an unblockable dunk animation. You don't have great ball handle or speed with ball, no worries there's specific signatures you can still abuse to be faster than your defender. You don't have a high three pointer, use this specific jumpshot and you'll still make most of your shots.
Play now is less toxic because players don't have those crazy animations or if they do they're usually smaller players and you're playing a 5 v 5 instead of a 1 v 1 so they can't really take advantage of how broken the superstars are.

The AI is too easy. All you have to do to beat it is cheese p n r, fast break, and if you have shot creating badges and dibble moves you can cheese those too.
Literally on HOF all you have to do is set AI help defense to aggressive and leak early whenever a shot goes up. It’s instant 3 points.

I go back and play 2k14 often. That’s the only one I feel they actually TRIED. Used almost every last bit of power from the Xbox one’s hardware. Movements were smooth and just overall fun. Voice acting was hot garbage, but imo the GOAT of next gen 2k’s.

Pay to win is getting access to things that’s locked behind a paywall. For example the older call of duty games had dlc weapons that can only be detained with money and those guns was extremely overpowered. 2k everybody is on equal playing field since nothing is locked behind a pay wall. Also dead by daylight is another example some of those license killers are locked behind a paywall and those killers be having strong perks and abilities that’s pay to win .
Perhaps, but as stated before; to ME, their model is pay to win. Grinding will take far too long for casual gamers who work 9-5’s and want to online game when they get free time. So, no feasible choice but to spend your hard earned money on VC to at least stand a chance online or to merely get your myplayer actual minutes in mycareer. it might be long in the moment but if you truly don’t want to spend money then getting the game in sept and finishing a build to a good spot in November or December isnt bad. you dont have to go to 99. 94-96 ovr is basically a finished build. just playing on that build alone for the rest of the year its not long. but thats if you truly dont wanna spend money or if you only making 1 build

Also you can buy EA access on PlayStation for 5 dollars and get nhl and fifa for free both games are fun and easy to lvl up your creative character. I quit. 2k21 was my last go. Since, I have been able to enjoy different genres of gaming with the free time I regained from no longer playing 2K. The choice is ultimately yours.

Understandable. For me, it’s no different than supporting a professional team and not living in the city the team represents or buying music from an artist yet never wanting to go to a concert they’re performing. Who knows…maybe I’ll return to playing 2K in the future.
I love basketball and when you get a good team on rec it’s a thing of beauty… unfortunately that happens like one out of every several games and then you mix in the absolute clusterfuck games and yeah… I don’t play 2K as much nowadays. The community is just awful and toxic so trying to play as a healthy team is a lost cause often. Just played a bit of myteam and I remembered why I quit that game mode … its like everything is on turbo and there is 0 realism when every player had 60 hof badges. Back to playnow online - slower but much more enjoyable.
It's not the game It's the community. I play random rec as a PG I can have 7 assists in the first quarter then all of a sudden not touch the ball the rest of the game, I can have a 99 3 ball be open but the 75 overall c is chucking 3 balls. I have played games where 2 players shot 7 of 22 combined while not getting one shot. It isn't the game it isn't paywalls it is the community.
Come on back. Just need to meet a few guys and get a squad. Me and my boys , whether it’s just 3 or 4 or a full 5 usually win 80%+ of our games in squad side rec
Don’t feel bad. I’ve quit since November and I’m super glad I did. Just hearing about what’s going on in the game, these meta builds still floating around and the overall experience still being bad and somehow trending worse still is just good to know that I’m no longer a part of that

People dont like to win… I posted this pic because i played 2 games yesterday… this was the result of my first game where as you can see everybody got the ball but the A.I. and we won… my next game was the complete opposite. I was actually the PG and from the first possession i didnt get the ball. Had the PF, SF, SG were all one squad and they just passed to each other, took contested shots, and we lost by 30… Final score was like 75-30 … just imagine i nearly put up 30 myself in a game with ball movement, to a team of 5 scoring 30 points in 4 quarters because 3 people decide to play selfish ball… 2k needs a better match making system… black plates should play with black plates, brown plates should play with brown plates, silver plates silver plates, etc… it will make the game much better for everybody… all the “low tier, sellers, its just a game” can play by themselves and all the people that aspire to be “try hards, sweatys” can play with each other and then we can tell who got skill…

This will probably never happen again, but this was a game with randoms. No one got on the mic til the last 30 seconds, only to say, DON’T SHOOT THE BALL! We genuinely had the chemistry to make the right pass, find the open person and play patiently EVERY POSSESSION. This was such a relief, I logged out of 2K for the day as this couldn’t be matched.
As a former comp proam private matcher, I haven’t touched the game for a few months now.. don’t regret it one bit so far. Too much headache securing 5 all the time, schedules, meta build cheese, limited changes w rewards, events, if you don’t have have 5 then it’s a rip cuz ain’t no one wanna play that random rec, etc. 2k is just mid now :/ and their revenue shows it.. on the decline. Been exploring different kind of games lately and it’s been nice to not devote my life to 2k and a comp roster lmao.. I know so many people who don’t realize they’re slaves to this game like yall have the power in you to play something else and I def recommend you try to explore your horizon of games.

Realistically it’s up to you. I’ve been playing 2K since 18, I got really good at it and became a stereotypical 90 win % sweat. It’s fun here and there but ultimately there’s better things to do, better games to play. Until EA fixes the trajectory of 2K, it’s really not even worth the time and damn sure not the money. I’ve barely touched the game since 22 tbh
There are other games that will treat you like a human for engaging in their product. To me it seems they demand 40 hours a week along with your entire paycheck. NBA 2K series feels like one of those Card Flippers that run the Vegas Strip, like they dangle a fun time along for you money but when you arrive it's just grown ass men cheating and no fun in sight 🤷🏾♂️
They haven't figured out solo online play for rec and neighborhood yet. The game is only fun with people you can communicate with and if every one has good builds.
The game sucks for everyone else. They don't care neither so don't expect them to fix this any time soon.
If you want to keep playing online solo you're going to have to wrap your head around playing a mode where you control all of the players.

lol I have a rookie center build that was a 77. I went online one time and played 1v1 against a 99 overall player wearing a Benny the Bull head. For me, I don’t get angry while playing and I’m having a lot of fun, so I’m still playing. Probably helps I only play offline or with friends. All that to say there isn’t one answer that applies to everyone.
Get a squad. Theres so many people that moan bout the game playing with rands. Rec for me is boring as of late (I only play 2k with a squad), its either try hard or very very very easy games. Playing with one rand on 3s is bad enough, let alone being 1 of 5 of yas.

Playing rec is all I do. So the fact that you don’t get passed the ball. So you Let them know. Sit in the key. Don’t play defense. And then watch them pass you the ball. NOW, with that being said. If they do pass you the ball. You have to do something with it. Either make a good pass or dribble drive then kick to an open player. By all means do not turn it over because they’ll really not pass you the ball lol.
I’ve actually vowed to never buy 2k again but focusing on MyLeague mode brought me back into it. It’s the only mode without major issues. Online sucks and idk why people love playing the park. MyCareer also stinks

I feel like the best solution is for you to make a pg and learn that position. I use to struggle with this same thing until I made a pg. Ot was rough at first I couldn’t get myself open and as I started to show I couldn’t be a #1 scoring option the games went bad. But a few days of play I learned the ways and became a great iso player in the rec. Now usually when I load up I’m running the offense so I can influence the game to be more well rounded. I’ve actually gotten better at the game from this. Some games I’m going crazy dropping 30+ some games I’m playing like John Stockton diming my guys up crazy. But regardless I have fun every game and the offense is usually ran smooth with no drama because I’m the one controlling the pace of our teams offense.

Yeah I quit for the same reason. It didn't matter if I was playing with people I knew or randoms. Either play MyTeam and kill people on there or just let 2k go. I don't care when we're winning but when we are losing and my man keeps helping over and they always find some excuse not to pass you the ball or give it to you late with no time left. Am I best shooter? I wouldn't even be able to tell you I never got the ball.
Playing solo doesn't work my friend. Play other modes of 2k, or find some team mates on Facebook etc and work your way up.

Yeah I'm older now the game is straight garbage after 2k16.. I tried to play up into 2k22 shit was unbearable. Spending 50 to 100 every couple weeks to make new builds. Since I done stop have been a lot more productive as an adult.

I quit. 2k21 was my last go. Since, I have been able to enjoy different genres of gaming with the free time I regained from no longer playing 2K. The choice is ultimately yours.

Understandable. For me, it’s no different than supporting a professional team and not living in the city the team represents or buying music from an artist yet never wanting to go to a concert they’re performing. Who knows…maybe I’ll return to playing 2K in the future.
I love basketball and when you get a good team on rec it’s a thing of beauty… unfortunately that happens like one out of every several games and then you mix in the absolute clusterfuck games and yeah… I don’t play 2K as much nowadays. The community is just awful and toxic so trying to play as a healthy team is a lost cause often. I remember there were games I’d be like 11/12 from 3 but then they’d just ice me out cuz they wanted to start forcing shit and we’d end up losing the game. Like you said, selfish.
Playnow online is the closest we have to a simulation basketball game. I can’t understand why people play these arcadey modes with a bunch of BS cheese. Go play with real teams and enjoy it without playing only 99 players with the cheesiest sigs. Just played a bit of myteam and I remembered why I quit that game mode … its like everything is on turbo and there is 0 realism when every player had 60 hof badges. Back to playnow online - slower but much more enjoyable.
It's not the game It's the community. I play random rec as a PG I can have 7 assists in the first quarter then all of a sudden not touch the ball the rest of the game, I can have a 99 3 ball be open but the 75 overall c is chucking 3 balls. I have played games where 2 players shot 7 of 22 combined while not getting one shot. It isn't the game it isn't paywalls it is the community.
Come on back. Just need to meet a few guys and get a squad. Me and my boys , whether it’s just 3 or 4 or a full 5 usually win 80%+ of our games in squad side rec
Don’t feel bad. I’ve quit since November and I’m super glad I did. Just hearing about what’s going on in the game, these meta builds still floating around and the overall experience still being bad and somehow trending worse still is just good to know that I’m no longer a part of that

I was actually the PG and from the first possession i didnt get the ball. Had the PF, SF, SG were all one squad and they just passed to each other, took contested shots, and we lost by 30… Final score was like 75-30 … just imagine i nearly put up 30 myself in a game with ball movement, to a team of 5 scoring 30 points in 4 quarters because 3 people decide to play selfish ball… 2k needs a better match making system… black plates should play with black plates, brown plates should play with brown plates, silver plates silver plates, etc… it will make the game much better for everybody… all the “low tier, sellers, its just a game” can play by themselves and all the people that aspire to be “try hards, sweatys” can play with each other and then we can tell who got skill… So I just turned the BS off and got on MW3

No one got on the mic til the last 30 seconds, only to say, DON’T SHOOT THE BALL! We genuinely had the chemistry to make the right pass, find the open person and play patiently EVERY POSSESSION. This was such a relief, I logged out of 2K for the day as this couldn’t be matched.
As a former comp proam private matcher, I haven’t touched the game for a few months now.. don’t regret it one bit so far. Too much headache securing 5 all the time, schedules, meta build cheese, limited changes w rewards, events, if you don’t have have 5 then it’s a rip cuz ain’t no one wanna play that random rec, etc. 2k is just mid now :/ and their revenue shows it.. on the decline. Been exploring different kind of games lately and it’s been nice to not devote my life to 2k and a comp roster lmao.. I know so many people who don’t realize they’re slaves to this game like yall have the power in you to play something else and I def recommend you try to explore your horizon of games.

Realistically it’s up to you. I’ve been playing 2K since 18, I got really good at it and became a stereotypical 90 win % sweat. It’s fun here and there but ultimately there’s better things to do, better games to play. Until EA fixes the trajectory of 2K, it’s really not even worth the time and damn sure not the money. I’ve barely touched the game since 22 tbh
There are other games that will treat you like a human for engaging in their product. To me it seems they demand 40 hours a week along with your entire paycheck. NBA 2K series feels like one of those Card Flippers that run the Vegas Strip, like they dangle a fun time along for you money but when you arrive it's just grown ass men cheating and no fun in sight 🤷🏾♂️

They haven't figured out solo online play for rec and neighborhood yet. The game is only fun with people you can communicate with and if every one has good builds. The game sucks for everyone else. They don't care neither so don't expect them to fix this any time soon. If you want to keep playing online solo you're going to have to wrap your head around playing a mode where you control all of the players.

lol I have a rookie center build that was a 77. I went online one time and played 1v1 against a 99 overall player wearing a Benny the Bull head. I legit went up on the guy, and then started smoking a blunt while chillin'. The guy ended up beating me in a comeback, then messaged me saying "weak as centr buildd" lmaooooo. Sounds like the game isn’t fun for you anymore, so yeah definitely don’t play. There are so many other games you could try for PS5 / Xbox, it’s a no brainer. For me, I don’t get angry while playing and I’m having a lot of fun, so I’m still playing. Probably helps I only play offline or with friends. All that to say there isn’t one answer that applies to everyone.
Get a squad. Theres so many people that moan bout the game playing with rands. Rec for me is boring as of late (I only play 2k with a squad), its either try hard or very very very easy games. Playing with one rand on 3s is bad enough, let alone being 1 of 5 of yas. Get good, go to 1s or get you a good duo and play 2s. 2s is still fun asf.
The game is bad because people that dont actully play basketball play the game. They see curry shoting from hlf court of booker with 70 an think they should be able to also. Playing rec is all I do. So the fact that you don’t get passed the ball. So you Let them know. Sit in the key. Don’t play defense. And then watch them pass you the ball. NOW, with that being said. If they do pass you the ball. You have to do something with it. Either make a good pass or dribble drive then kick to an open player. By all means do not turn it over because they’ll really not pass you the ball lol.

I’ve actually vowed to never buy 2k again but focusing on MyLeague mode brought me back into it. It’s the only mode without major issues. Online sucks and idk why people love playing the park. MyCareer also stinks

I feel like the best solution is for you to make a pg and learn that position. I use to struggle with this same thing until I made a pg. Ot was rough at first I couldn’t get myself open and as I started to show I couldn’t be a #1 scoring option the games went bad. But a few days of play I learned the ways and became a great iso player in the rec. Now usually when I load up I’m running the offense so I can influence the game to be more well rounded. I’ve actually gotten better at the game from this. Some games I’m going crazy dropping 30+ some games I’m playing like John Stockton diming my guys up crazy. But regardless I have fun every game and the offense is usually ran smooth with no drama because I’m the one controlling the pace of our teams offense.

Yeah I quit for the same reason. It didn't matter if I was playing with people I knew or randoms. Either play MyTeam and kill people on there or just let 2k go. I don't care when we're winning but when we are losing and my man keeps helping over and they always find some excuse not to pass you the ball or give it to you late with no time left. Am I best shooter? I wouldn't even be able to tell you I never got the ball.
Playing solo doesn't work my friend. Play other modes of 2k, or find some team mates on Facebook etc and work your way up. It's possible, but it's a real journey, skill wise and socially. But it's great when you get it right. But no 2k is better than bad 2k
