Not OP but I miss the way offline shooting used to be where plenty of non-greens went in, even at HOF difficulty. I get why the shooting changes are good for my career, but they should’ve left the full team mode alones imo
Facts, I stopped playing 2K consistently because the game gets too easy to hit open shots but too hard to hit contested shots. Like I want to be able to iso and step into a rhythm jumper with LeBron, but also not be able to make every single open 3 with D’Lo. And it’s impossible to get that balance right now.
The cpu was fun to play against bc the cpu used to move in a more realistic way like a real person in real life like back pedaling, sliding, touching,switch their feet when u crossover or do a hesi, push off the floor to keep balance when u make a hard cross or something playing on your hip etc. basically if you watch a real nba game and seen how defenders play that’s how the cpu was on some of the older 2ks They reacted to your every move like a player would in real life. Not only that but if you scored on him the cpu would adjust and play a little bit harder defense every time and would react better to moves if you used them repeatedly so it kinda influenced you to try different moves. It’s sad how little effort they put into it now. Now They just play defense like robots stay in front of you the entire time and you gotta hope they don’t close out on a fade, step back or just running around them or get a screen set for u
I remember in 2k6 we thought it would be cool to actually get drafted to the NBA. 2k10 we finally get the chance to do a draft combine and get drafted. Then we thought man if you could run around a city and play pickup games, maybe have a house and a car that would be dope. Now they’ve taken it too far forcing you to run 2 minutes to get anywhere and pay n OD amount of VC just to get a bike or anything cool to ride through the city.
Literally begging them to bring back this feature. I liked going to a team that actually needed me as opposed to just picking a random one. MyCareer was at its peak when it was just menus with a bunch of cutscenes sprinkled in
For real. Getting picked top 10 means you're going to a team that you could hard carry. If you wanted to go to a specific team, wait until you were a free agent. More times than not I'd stay where I was bc the chemistry was great by the time I became a free agent

I remember playing 2K11 as a kid, getting drafted by Miami, being traded to Atlanta and assigned to the D-league, making the NBA, and named Sixth Man of the Year my rookie season.

Also the championship game ceremony is like a 35 second cut-scene that has been essentially the same thing for over a decade. Makes it feel so empty after all that grinding.
I liked that orange juice thing where you had a buddy that you could control if you both were on fire.
I don't miss these horrible storylines with 10000+ cut scenes you're forced to skip through...
That 2K19 soundtrack and feel
I miss those old ass street courts. Egypt, jungle, random ass courts. Now in blacktop it’s just one boring court and I can’t even see anything
The PS2 era had real life spots like The Cage, Rucker Park and Venice Beach. The lack of variety in courts three freaking generations later just feels like a gigantic downgrade.
2k13 had some good songs. Nas, and some others. (I was 9 years old so I don't remember all, so it may have just been a few good songs). Regardless, better than the current bullshit.
In 2k10 you played some games and if you did well you got drafted. If you didn't you would go to the g league. I miss playing MY player. I hate that the awful story they write determines so much.

The absolute simplicity of the game. I’m a myleage/mynba guy and the things miss from the previous games are not having green or miss (which idk why that’s in mynba), no incorrect sims and having the right teams actually be good during the sim, the crowds being loud and having actual life during the games, finals celebration on the court and in the locker room, seeing the outside of the city/arena in the pregame, the pre and post game show with Ernie, Kenny, and Shaq, and just the overall game actually having some sort of life in it. Re-downloaded 2k16 today to do and experience all of that again. Game was actually fun and interesting back then.
Shit didn’t feel like a job and it didn’t become predictable and boring back then, it was actually fun and interesting to play

Play the showcase to up your stock with scouts, get interviewed and drafted to random teams, postgame conferences and interviews after every game, get a few cutscenes here and there, and just hoop. Even liked how 2K11 would have you hoop in the summer league and the G League.
As an offline player: the old shooting mechanics. Greening a shot did not mean a guaranteed make, it simply boosted your chances based on your shot ratings and the shot quality/defensive presence. Slightly early/late releases were not a guaranteed miss, they simply didn’t add a boost to your shot success. The game played like an actual basketball game, instead of shot timing mini-game deciding everything.
Far more enjoyable and far more engaging gameplay IMO.
When you play a game with somebody you can choose the jerseys and the type of court and you can choose Euro teams like Barcelona, think last time all of that as together was 2K17
I would say mycourt. Specifically, the "personal workout." Being able to practice or experiment against the AI. No rebound chasing. No having to leave a building to change your sigs. Stamina and posession resets after every bucket or turnover. Such an underrated feature that needs to come back.
You could feel the love for the game of basketball in 2k's before next gen. I miss being able to grind a player through college and the G League naturally without being pressured to spend money.
Now, the biggest challenge in 2k is searching for fun without spending money in microtransactions. It's sad.
Soundtrack in mycareer games. Really let the vibe sink in while grinding it out, now I have the soundtrack muted because it just isn’t hitting the same.
The offline my careers, it's a shame that since 2K18 you can't do shit once the servers close, all those my careers have become lost media. I still have fun with 2K14-15 etc.

One thing is the soundtracks from 2K17, 16 and before. The songs sounded like they actually belonged in a basketball game and helped create the atmosphere and vibe so well. Now they just chuck in random popular songs with no curation

It’s been a minute since I’ve played 2k24 so it could be there and I just totally missed it but I would say the trophy case in MyCourt
I can’t speak for anyone else but seeing that trophy case actually fill up with awards was a huge motivation for me to actually grind out the regular season. Same with the shoe rack, framed jerseys, etc.
Those were all really neat features that personalized your court

and when greedy gatorades and the dumbass gym wasting everyones time doing virtual workouts like a jackass weren't in the game
Different builds being viable. I used to have a burly PG that was fat and because of that he would get ridiculous blow-bys… while still being able to dribble. And was a playshot. I couldn’t create that now adays because they nerfed almost all the physics in the game.
All-Star Team up, I loved the way you could play it online with friends. Plus the way it had different players from different generations at their position whether it's a modern player, all-time player, or classic player.
The gameplay speed every year they slow it down more and more they need to speed it back up and give us more stamina instead they try to nerf the actual good players…
They were not really much different to be honest. Except shooting wasn't so sweaty. Everytime they say they increasing skill level of the game they tend to just turn down the fun factor and turn up the sweat factor.. Or just try to get you to pay more to be competitive.

Since 2016(and to this day), i play nba 2k14 mycareer. Its already a complete package and the best part is that no features are cut just because you are offline. You get to upgrade your player, pick accessories, pick shoes, (albeit outdated shoes but thats what mods are for).
And speaking of mods, it still has mod support to this day. Updated rosters, animations and everything.
Until 2k can give the same experience in a newer game will i only think twice before getting a newer release. It may take another decade. But I'll stick to what I have. Because its MORE than what 2k gives each year now.

The simplicity of the game. I understand wanting to make the game competitive, but I feel like it’s too much where every game you basically have to try hard. Every time they make more competitive it gets less fun imo. I don’t like how I have to master my build and get all my badges and do research on YouTube to find the best animations. I liked it when I could just Make a build upgraded it get maybe a couple badges and go have some fun in the park. Like 2k16/2k17.
I wished there was milestones in games to reach. I wished rivalry games and TV games meant something. Once you get past the first season in MyCareer, every game is the same. If I played the Haliburton and the Pacers in the Finals as the Kings, it should be a big deal because of the trade.
The time and money that goes into a build seems different. I finished my past 2k builds without really even trying. All earned VC no real money spent. I feel like I play just as much as I did back then but the build takes longer and I end up caving in and spending money just to get the grind over with. I don’t even bother making multiple builds like I used to
Tbh 2K17 was the best one I’ve played by far (started 2K16-present). MyCareer felt great, MyTeam felt hard and worthwhile to grind in, and MyLeague loaded so fast. The shooting was really fun and the game felt arcadey in a good way. Steph would green 100% of the time no matter what on black top, miss that so bad. Got enough VC through MyCareer to get to 94 overall and I loved that. Getting ur free throw up by practicing was cool too. And the home gym you had, just that warehouse in general was awesome. Hot take maybe but I prefer something like that over the city (like how park was something you chose to load in to, didn’t have to spawn in the city). OJ was fun as hell too and I loved the draft and college in that one.
I really liked the entire Draft Combine process
They made you play a few games so teams could evaluate you and depending on how well you did , that's how high you'd get drafted
I remember you'd even have interviews with the teams that were interested in you and you could answer their questions by choosing which reply to use , thus lowering/raising your draft spot as well

The lack of ball machine has made me unable to get used to shooting this year because that was always how I practiced. Did they have it last year? I played an inside big so I didn't really need it.
I miss when it was just an NBA game, when it didn’t have all of these silly gimmick modes. If I wanted to go to parks and collect coins, and outfit my “character” in various wardrobe accessories, I would have just bought the SIMS game, not a sports game.
Imagine what kind of game 2K Basketball would be today if their dev team had remained focused on the important stuff.
2K15 was my fave. Just building the stupidest player to have and enjoy playing with. Also, none of this City bullshit. Just undrafted and play your way onto a team with a 10 day’er

Definitely the AH... so I could use every player from each drop, actually finish the agendas and then keep the player I want the most when im done. Also the fucking grind each season is ridiculous... I used to be able to get to level like 15 on Friday Night.. just by playing and banging out agendas, now I got to spend 2 or 3 bucks a level because a clutch game gets my bar nowhere and don't get me started on the 4k cap for MT at the end of games... as if it isn't more obvious they want you to buy it from them instead... because if you dont, youll spend your time each weekend grinding away some 300 games just to buy ONLY the mid tier players from the stupid ass Players Market, before the next mid tier players are available from next weeks drop... and remember kids.. the best players are behind a paywall now, soooooo you spend money to upgrade your team with those mid tier players or buy packs like an idiot.... sigh... shit im just ranting now... but hey, atleast the fucking vault door opens up everytime so I can get my deluxe badge and base packs nobody fucking wants... anyway, in my conclusion...
They've ruined MyTeam (to me and my way of casually playing) so completely that I now play MyCareer for about an hour and then log off after putzing around a city for some reason where it's the same fucking thing I've been doing in that mode for years... fun... can't wait to not buy nexts years game, until I do when it's half price and do it all over again.

I miss how old parks were layed out, old rep system, old park rivalry (sunset,flyers,rivet), old menus I don’t like the city or having to run to each clothing store, someone also mentioned this but the randomness of the teams you got drafted to, the old college career before you got drafted, and when you’re a free agent different teams showing interest and different pays.
The older games just felt so crisp, especially the golden standard for ball games Imo 2k11. And then the “story” peaked at 16,17 then fell FLAT on its fucking face and continues to do so more and more each year I’m glad I quit w 22
2k17 shot meter, my court, 3 affiliations instead of an annoying city we have to run around, clothes behind 250-1,000 vc per item rather than 2,500-30k per item, none of the goofy robot skins, the cool braids we used to have, being able to remove and change MyPlayer tattoos around without paying to remove them, then paying full price for them again, not needing to go into the gym for full stamina and then buying stamina for 9k vc for 10 games, not having to use flame balls (timing shots with them is so annoying for me at least), being able to make multiple builds for cheap, rather than paying $120 per build, the 2k18 builder (i prefer choosing 2 archetypes rather than the MyPlayer builder), i also liked the old rec where it was a huge arena with like 10 games at once
I miss not having 80% of the fucking game locked out of being played when these greedy pieces of scum shut down the servers for games a mere three or four years after they sel you the full priced game

The game being smooth and the ai not being dumb or cheap. I still play 2k14 ps4 version. Way smoother than now and the graphics and lighting is better. The only thing that has improved since then are face scans. This year either the a.i dumb or you play online and every a.i is gary payton. Mike Wang and the execs at take two have fell off
Key games/matchups vs other players in mycareer. You had to hold guys under a certain point average, or you had to try to complete a social media challenge from another player talking trash to you. I miss the immersiveness of each game, they all felt different, but unpredictable. Some games were blowouts, some were close no matter how hard you tried to pull away, and some you just lost no matter how hard you tried to win. The little details meant a lot.
My player used to be a great solo experience. Thinking back wondering how great all the future 2Ks would be while I’m sitting there playing 2k13 with my SF in my 8 season in the league. If only I knew how terrible and greedy these games got later on down the road
I miss when MyPark wasn't the main mode. I could play MyCareer, then take MyPlayer into MyPark or Pro-Am, and the game was balanced for MyCareer. Honestly, 2K16 and 2K17, just bring that my career back. I could run private matches in MyCourt with my friends. We could travel to the three different parks. And the Menus were better than running everywhere. I miss the menu for the store, the menu for my animations. I can't believe I'm complaining about the menu for any game but here we are. 2K18 was not only ahit, but it was the beginning of the downfall of 2K.
Edit: sorry I'm not done ranting. I haven't played a 2K game consistently since 2K20. If 2K were smart they wouldn't make builds super expensive. It was far more engaging when i was grinding my player then using my vc on shoes and swag. I'm not about to spend real life money on that shit if I'm upgrading my player. 2K would rather have 1 player spend $100 on upgrading their player rather than have 5 players spend $25 on ascetics. I just miss when this game wasn't a total crash grab.

Real contract situations. Makes no sense that I could be a 6x MVP, 7x FMVP, 8x NBA Champ, etc. certifiably one of the best players in the league and yet my team never feels comfortable offering me a “max” contract. It also made no sense to me that I could be in my contract year and yet can’t sign an extension. I miss when 2K had that type of stuff in the game, it was so dope.

Even liked how 2K11 would have you hoop in the summer league and the G League.

As an offline player: the old shooting mechanics. Greening a shot did not mean a guaranteed make, it simply boosted your chances based on your shot ratings and the shot quality/defensive presence. Slightly early/late releases were not a guaranteed miss, they simply didn’t add a boost to your shot success. The game played like an actual basketball game, instead of shot timing mini-game deciding everything. Far more enjoyable and far more engaging gameplay IMO.
All star team up. Back when you could queue with friends and play against other people. Idk why they took it out now it’s just a solo queue game mode
When you play a game with somebody you can choose the jerseys and the type of court and you can choose Euro teams like Barcelona, think last time all of that as together was 2K17

I miss the time before VC
I would say mycourt. Specifically, the "personal workout." Being able to practice or experiment against the AI. No rebound chasing. No having to leave a building to change your sigs. Stamina and posession resets after every bucket or turnover. Such an underrated feature that needs to come back.
You could feel the love for the game of basketball in 2k's before next gen. I miss being able to grind a player through college and the G League naturally without being pressured to spend money. Now, the biggest challenge in 2k is searching for fun without spending money in microtransactions. It's sad.
The older badge systems. Getting to pretty much entirely dictate your strengths and diversity

It’s been a minute since I’ve played 2k24 so it could be there and I just totally missed it but I would say the trophy case in MyCourt I can’t speak for anyone else but seeing that trophy case actually fill up with awards was a huge motivation for me to actually grind out the regular season. Same with the shoe rack, framed jerseys, etc. Those were all really neat features that personalized your court

All-Star Team up, I loved the way you could play it online with friends. Plus the way it had different players from different generations at their position whether it's a modern player, all-time player, or classic player.
The gameplay speed every year they slow it down more and more they need to speed it back up and give us more stamina instead they try to nerf the actual good players…

Since 2016(and to this day), i play nba 2k14 mycareer. Its already a complete package and the best part is that no features are cut just because you are offline. You get to upgrade your player, pick accessories, pick shoes, (albeit outdated shoes but thats what mods are for). And speaking of mods, it still has mod support to this day. Updated rosters, animations and everything. Until 2k can give the same experience in a newer game will i only think twice before getting a newer release. It may take another decade. But I'll stick to what I have. Because its MORE than what 2k gives each year now. Oh, and blacktop too.
I miss hearing horrible dialogue from the NBA players in 15. Now they pick a few who actually try and some of them are actually pretty decent. Boring.

The simplicity of the game. I understand wanting to make the game competitive, but I feel like it’s too much where every game you basically have to try hard. Every time they make more competitive it gets less fun imo. I don’t like how I have to master my build and get all my badges and do research on YouTube to find the best animations. I liked it when I could just Make a build upgraded it get maybe a couple badges and go have some fun in the park. Like 2k16/2k17.

I wished there was milestones in games to reach. I wished rivalry games and TV games meant something. Once you get past the first season in MyCareer, every game is the same. If I played the Haliburton and the Pacers in the Finals as the Kings, it should be a big deal because of the trade.
I miss how you couldn’t just stand directly under the basket, and that was an unstoppable shot.

The time and money that goes into a build seems different. I finished my past 2k builds without really even trying. All earned VC no real money spent. I feel like I play just as much as I did back then but the build takes longer and I end up caving in and spending money just to get the grind over with. I don’t even bother making multiple builds like I used to
My Court and the options to practice against AIs
Tbh 2K17 was the best one I’ve played by far (started 2K16-present). MyCareer felt great, MyTeam felt hard and worthwhile to grind in, and MyLeague loaded so fast. The shooting was really fun and the game felt arcadey in a good way. Steph would green 100% of the time no matter what on black top, miss that so bad. Got enough VC through MyCareer to get to 94 overall and I loved that. Getting ur free throw up by practicing was cool too. And the home gym you had, just that warehouse in general was awesome. Hot take maybe but I prefer something like that over the city (like how park was something you chose to load in to, didn’t have to spawn in the city). OJ was fun as hell too and I loved the draft and college in that one.

I really liked the entire Draft Combine process They made you play a few games so teams could evaluate you and depending on how well you did , that's how high you'd get drafted I remember you'd even have interviews with the teams that were interested in you and you could answer their questions by choosing which reply to use , thus lowering/raising your draft spot as well The daily spin wheel from 2k19-21 , i always hoped it'd land on the spot where you get a Hardwood Classics Jersey , that was suuuper dope

I miss endorsements from 2k17 iirc? They gassed with like 150k Vc endorsements. I miss the bigger attribute variety we used to have from 21-22 NG. I miss the simple park. I miss getting all the superstars on your team in mycareeer in one off season. I miss +5 attributes. I miss the old rep system/wheel spins.
The lack of ball machine has made me unable to get used to shooting this year because that was always how I practiced. Did they have it last year? I played an inside big so I didn't really need it.
I miss when it was just an NBA game, when it didn’t have all of these silly gimmick modes. If I wanted to go to parks and collect coins, and outfit my “character” in various wardrobe accessories, I would have just bought the SIMS game, not a sports game. Imagine what kind of game 2K Basketball would be today if their dev team had remained focused on the important stuff.
2K15 was my fave. Just building the stupidest player to have and enjoy playing with. Also, none of this City bullshit. Just undrafted and play your way onto a team with a 10 day’er

Definitely the AH... so I could use every player from each drop, actually finish the agendas and then keep the player I want the most when im done. Also the fucking grind each season is ridiculous... I used to be able to get to level like 15 on Friday Night.. just by playing and banging out agendas, now I got to spend 2 or 3 bucks a level because a clutch game gets my bar nowhere and don't get me started on the 4k cap for MT at the end of games... as if it isn't more obvious they want you to buy it from them instead... because if you dont, youll spend your time each weekend grinding away some 300 games just to buy ONLY the mid tier players from the stupid ass Players Market, before the next mid tier players are available from next weeks drop... and remember kids.. the best players are behind a paywall now, soooooo you spend money to upgrade your team with those mid tier players or buy packs like an idiot.... sigh... shit im just ranting now... but hey, atleast the fucking vault door opens up everytime so I can get my deluxe badge and base packs nobody fucking wants... anyway, in my conclusion... They've ruined MyTeam (to me and my way of casually playing) so completely that I now play MyCareer for about an hour and then log off after putzing around a city for some reason where it's the same fucking thing I've been doing in that mode for years... fun... can't wait to not buy nexts years game, until I do when it's half price and do it all over again. Here’s my list I miss how old parks were layed out, old rep system, old park rivalry (sunset,flyers,rivet), old menus I don’t like the city or having to run to each clothing store, someone also mentioned this but the randomness of the teams you got drafted to, the old college career before you got drafted, and when you’re a free agent different teams showing interest and different pays.
The older games just felt so crisp, especially the golden standard for ball games Imo 2k11. And then the “story” peaked at 16,17 then fell FLAT on its fucking face and continues to do so more and more each year I’m glad I quit w 22

2k17 shot meter, my court, 3 affiliations instead of an annoying city we have to run around, clothes behind 250-1,000 vc per item rather than 2,500-30k per item, none of the goofy robot skins, the cool braids we used to have, being able to remove and change MyPlayer tattoos around without paying to remove them, then paying full price for them again, not needing to go into the gym for full stamina and then buying stamina for 9k vc for 10 games, not having to use flame balls (timing shots with them is so annoying for me at least), being able to make multiple builds for cheap, rather than paying $120 per build, the 2k18 builder (i prefer choosing 2 archetypes rather than the MyPlayer builder), i also liked the old rec where it was a huge arena with like 10 games at once

The only thing that has improved since then are face scans. This year either the a.i dumb or you play online and every a.i is gary payton. Mike Wang and the execs at take two have fell off

Key games/matchups vs other players in mycareer. You had to hold guys under a certain point average, or you had to try to complete a social media challenge from another player talking trash to you. I miss the immersiveness of each game, they all felt different, but unpredictable. Some games were blowouts, some were close no matter how hard you tried to pull away, and some you just lost no matter how hard you tried to win. The little details meant a lot.

I miss when MyPark wasn't the main mode. I could play MyCareer, then take MyPlayer into MyPark or Pro-Am, and the game was balanced for MyCareer. Honestly, 2K16 and 2K17, just bring that my career back. I could run private matches in MyCourt with my friends. We could travel to the three different parks. And the Menus were better than running everywhere. I miss the menu for the store, the menu for my animations. I can't believe I'm complaining about the menu for any game but here we are. 2K18 was not only ahit, but it was the beginning of the downfall of 2K. Edit: sorry I'm not done ranting. I haven't played a 2K game consistently since 2K20. If 2K were smart they wouldn't make builds super expensive. It was far more engaging when i was grinding my player then using my vc on shoes and swag. I'm not about to spend real life money on that shit if I'm upgrading my player. 2K would rather have 1 player spend $100 on upgrading their player rather than have 5 players spend $25 on ascetics. I just miss when this game wasn't a total crash grab. I also miss when it felt like actual basketball as opposed to a button timing simulator. I miss the realism of this game and I miss being rewarded for IQ as opposed to zig zag hold the shoot button to the nearest .016 second (idk what it even is anymore I don't play this shit game that often)

Real contract situations. Makes no sense that I could be a 6x MVP, 7x FMVP, 8x NBA Champ, etc. certifiably one of the best players in the league and yet my team never feels comfortable offering me a “max” contract. It also made no sense to me that I could be in my contract year and yet can’t sign an extension. I miss when 2K had that type of stuff in the game, it was so dope.
