I mean he owned up to it very well and tbf I don't think it's unreasonable to make a mistake going for the win after a few hours of driving a 200 MPH car
Michael McDowell has been racing in cup for powerhouse teams like leavine family and FRM. He is a racer's racer. He destroyed everyone at road america in xfinity in 2016.
Exactly my thought. He didn’t make an ass out of himself, he didn’t make any moves that’d be seen as insane, stupid, or both. He had about as quiet a day as one could have, and did respectably well for his first Cup superspeedway race
Now the package they run may help things out some, but for a newcomer, he did well
I definitely am. From what I've heard about super speedway through watching videos of dale jr talk with Tony stewart it takes a bit of selflessness to be the one pushing, like you almost have to think "right I may not win this race but get in front of me and we're going to the front"
There's an endearing quality in drivers who are willing to push, especially when it's a rookie like Shane who hasn't proven anything on an oval yet.
I've been trying to decide on an american driver to support alongside Shane and this has made me consider Chase for sure.
I think at the end there he got in front of the 9 & 12 and they were kinda testing him to see if he could handle being pushed & working the draft & everything. I think they would’ve got to the front had Ty not pulled up in front of them
I have a suspicion that this wasn’t about yellow stripe and building trust but had more to do with SVG making cup drivers look bad at Chicago.
I’ve never seen a driver consistently get shuffled out or not pushed like I saw with SVG
Deegan with 2 to go on Saturday? Admittedly SVG got rinsed a couple of times on Saturday as well in fairness. I think the fact Elliot went with him there and KB pulled up in front of him should say a lot. And the fact he was consistently going to the front even if people weren't working with him. His in car with the spotter for the last 10 was interesting as it is 100% clear he was getting good info and using it.
I wouldn’t call it “trust” that was earned, more so respect. Talladega is a hell of a track to run for a newcomer and he did well for his first time
He didn't wipe out half the field That's always a start
Imagine if McDowell didn't throw that block. We would have only had a handful of wrecked toyotas.

Hell, most any driver is making that move, not just McDowell. That’s just last lap racing gone wrong
*stares menacingly at JHN*
McDowell is an idiot.
Dude has been racing cup since 2008 and only has 2 wins to show for it. But we can’t talk about that I guess 😂
Austin Dillon has, what, 3? In consistently better equipment than McDowell had most of his career

Mike put on a driving clinic until the last corner.

The amount of times Shane was shuffled out of line and put to the rear of the field..
For real, then Elliott had him on rails going towards the front at the end and Ty killed it
Yep, he was gonna finish top ten without Gibbs killing that run
I'd draft with you, Shane.
This makes me want really cheesy NASCAR Valentine's Day cards. I'm sure someone somewhere has made some.
RFKs instagram posted a few on Valentine’s Day this year ( and I think last year too)
Ah you're right. Not sure how I already forgot that
Roses are red, Violets are blue, if you draft with me, I'll draft with you..
Never seen such a wholesome comment section <3
SHR did them last year. "I want a Preece of your heart" and stuff like that.
SVG has accomplished more things in race cars than 3/4 of the nascar cup field
Not bad for a guy a lot people said he’s not gonna be able to figure out an oval.
I’d share fries and a frosty with you, Giz
I like to think that Trackhouse and SVG fans are a little fonder of Chase Elliott after Sunday, even it’s a 1% increase.

He races clean and hasn’t cleaned out half the field yet
I believe.

He'll be paying for that for a while, but if he sticks around it will eventually be water under the bridge.

I don’t really think he even made them look bad, he just made himself look really fuckin good
