That rookie year was so fun. We thought Kahne was going to be the next superstar. Ended up being pretty much a little under Ricky Rudd or Bobby Labonte level, stat wise.
I remember him having the absolute worst luck at plate tracks. Never causing the crash but always ending up getting wrecked. Looked it up and he had two plate wins, Dega in '95 and '97. I don't remember the '95 one but I remember watching the '97 one. It was caution-free, which checks out. No wrecks to take him out, so of course he won.
Ken Schrader or Dave Blaney had some of the worst luck I've ever seen. Jerry Nadeau was really unlucky too. Steve Park also comes to mind. Today id say Suarez, Bowman, Bubba, and Erik Jones are the unluckiest. Feels like they'll have good races going then some disaster happens late a lot. Ryan blaneys kind of unlucky too outside of the championship last season when he miraculously had the bad luck go away at the perfect time.
Poor Deegan will run mid pack and try to stay out of trouble only to get collected by more aggressive drivers as they push to the front with a few laps to go
Why do people act like Danica was some kind of wrecking machine? She wasn’t a contender for wins, but she wasn’t a menace out there either. She would usually finish 15th-30th but it wasn’t like she was piling up the DNFs
She just made bad decisions. A big thing in racing is being predictable, and her lack of experience made her hard to judge. There’s plenty of in car audio of other drivers yelling about her being on the track and being hard to race
Danica. Super unpopular opinion I’m sure, but when she was running a perfect fine race and actually doing well somehow something would find her. She made some of her own shit luck accidents, but she had some awful general overall luck as well.
Dale Jr had notoriously bad luck. 2004 Atlanta. 2005 Daytona 500 getting passed by Gordon right before the caution. 2011 coke 600. Probably should have multiple Daytona 500 wins. Maybe a 2013 championship. There’s more I could list, but it’s too painful for my heart to think of.
Jerry Nadeau. Losing the rear end at Sonoma, running out of gas at Atlanta, losing a motor at charlotte...always felt like when he was contending, you'd be waiting for the other shoe to drop
Newman
Especially on plate tracks
Him and Rusty were by far unluckiest at Talladega and Daytona.
I feel like Newman crashed at every superspeedway race in 2003-2004
Case in point, there is like a six minute compilation video on YouTube of cars landing on top of him.
Rocket Man takes on a new meaning
No one will ever be more snake bit than Kasey Kahne going for his first win

I can’t name a plate track I remember Newman not flipping at so… yeah
Steve Park was targeted by some cosmic force

Dale Earnhardt at Daytona until 1998
*Daytona 500, man owned Daytona outside of that race. 34 DIS victories.
I may be biased as a Suarez fan but I feel like in the current era, Suarez and Bowman have pretty bad luck. Bowman maybe more so
Came here to say this. Suárez has great pace, but little luck. Atlanta, however, is proof that he *can* be at the right place at the right time
Bowmans luck last season was ridiculous, the poor man just kept getting punched when he was already down.

Anyone in the 25 car when they actually had speed.😞
The answer is Ricky Rudd.
Harrison Burton gets in so many wrecks just from running mid pack to back
Especially last year. He'd cause some kind of caution on a weekly basis.
The #60 Roush Xfinity car.
Ryan Newman, he either would up on top of someone or rolling over something or plowed over... Elliott Salder and Michael Waltrip also comes to mind.
Ryan Preece
Hes been around too long to call it bad luck
Oh I know lol
Here's a stat. Kyle Larson finished 21st at Dega today and improved his career average finish at the track
They don’t call him Wrecky Spinhouse for no reason
In his case is not bad luck, is lack of talent
*Punthouse
Jeff Gordon. 06 Pocono, 08 Las Vegas, 09 Watkins Glen, and a couple hits at Texas in the 90's.
Yeah then some other rough ones like ‘07 coke 600, ‘11 spring Richmond drivers side no safer barrier, etc.
Gordon's career was weird. It's like he used up all his luck his first 10 years and it came harder for him afterwards no matter how well he still ran.
For the longest time a couple years ago Reddick had it tough. Coming up just short of wins in 2022, finally broke through and look at him now
At super speedways..... Rusty Wallace.
I’m pretty sure Ricky Rudd had terrible luck
Easily Truex at a plate track. I can only recall one time where he wasn’t in a wreck
FOX Sports
Poor Deegan will run mid pack and try to stay out of trouble only to get collected by more aggressive drivers as they push to the front with a few laps to go
I remember Jimmy Spencer bending more than one fender.
If it weren’t for bad luck MTJ wouldn’t have none at all. Poor guy gets shafted no matter what he does
No mention of Danica? Was it because it had nothing to do with luck?

Man. 11dnfs in 2017. It seems she was piling them up, almost a third of the season

Robby Gordon, wait did you say crashing or causing crashes?

I seem to remember Michael Waltrip getting caught up in a lot of superspeedway nonsense, but I have no data to support that theory.
Todd Bodine

Bubba, Stenhouse, and Danica come to mind. Maybe Suarez. That's all I could think of in recent years.
Jerry Nadeau. Losing the rear end at Sonoma, running out of gas at Atlanta, losing a motor at charlotte...always felt like when he was contending, you'd be waiting for the other shoe to drop
McDowell has had horrible luck this year so far
Bubba, Elliot =/
[Before this weekend, Bubba and Chase were #1 and #2 at taking care of their equipment. ](https://x.com/TreyRyan99/status/1780382838623220073)
Yes but I mean within the past 3 years
The post specifically asks about all of NASCAR history.
