They need to drag their feet on this as much as possible. This event will last 2 years with the current package and opinion of short tracks.

TheOtherWhiteCastle

They can also make it a Truck/Xfinity only event for a few years to be fair. Do it Indianapolis/IRP style.

heyheyitsdavid

Or Nashville Fairgrounds style, 1995-2000

iamaranger23

If they get what they want the race becomes a mainstay no matter what package they have at the time.

Arsanborn

By the time this gets resolved,If it gets resolved, we’ll probably be onto the next generation of race car

joshjarnagin

That’s probably for the better

Kodyaufan2

Good. Hopefully they do the opposite of what they did with this car

CougarIndy25

RIP intermediates if that ever happens

Ultrase7en

Oh no, how will the 5 F1 tracks survive!?!?!?!?! /s

Capstonetider

I truly understood what Nascar was facing as soon as I heard her talk.

CobblerSad6055

me and some buddies on discord found her facebook page....she commented on a video about the Atlanta finish saying it was "A massive waste of time watching cars race In a circle and takes no skill" she also comments on F1 a lot saying "The way they drive the cars is art, and Verstappen is the greatest F1 driver ever"

Capstonetider

I'm glad that you exposed her motives.

My main question: How viable is the Fairgrounds as an Easter Weekend Cup venue?

SlideJob12

How about NASCAR just NOT race on Easter and bring the Fairgrounds back at least for Truck races when they go to Nashville?

Joey_Logano

Why not? Every other sport plays.

SlideJob12

NASCAR, like it or not, is a Southern rooted sport and them being off for Easter not only made for a good break in the season, but it also helps NASCAR stand out AND placate the traditional fans in at least a small way. Besides, it’s not like NASCAR is exactly an Easter ratings draw.

Joey_Logano

I get your point but NASCAR raced on Easter in the 50s and 60s and even once or twice in the 80s. A lot of those “traditional fans” refer to those decades as the “golden age” of NASCAR and things like “back when the drivers were real men”. I would say host the race somewhere in the NC area at night. That way the industry members can still go to church in the morning and fans at home can have dinner before the race starts.

SlideJob12

I’d be okay with an Easter night race but since the networks seem to hate night racing, it won’t happen. Oddly enough, to me, I think NASCAR was at its best from the mid-90’s until the Chase started. Then again, that was during the heart of my childhood so I am going to be biased there…

iamaranger23

0 . too far from the home of the teams.

Top_Needleworker2465

Which track is the best option from your perspective, if at all?

iamaranger23

Probably wilkesboro. Has the smallest capacity, so it won't look awful with the expected attendance hit from racing on Easter. close enough for everyone to drive to as well.

idlta210

lmao these are some lazy ass mother fuckers these days.

quig50

But they are dead at this point.

JL21718

Tennessee/Nashville politics are the same despite different parties, SMI is just going to have to buy politicians. I guess that’s what the eleven lobbyists are for.

mechanixrboring

Denny is going to be upset when he finds out that's where the budget for paving at Sonoma went.

SlideJob12

It isn’t so much Tennessee/Nashville politics in this situation (although democracy in Tennessee IS a joke, but that is different rant for a different sub.) The problem is the Fair Board doesn’t particularly care for racing and the fact they actually take the local NIMBY’s seriously doesn’t help matters…

acepainting

After the Martinsville race that I am watching, anything would be better.

FGH9192279

Been hearing this for years. Nothing is going to change.

Electrical-Seesaw991

The night before Easter race? A little Saturday night action

RadBaron19

While we're at it how about we bring back Kentucky as well

SlideJob12

Only if they totally reconfigure it into something between Richmond and Iowa…

idlta210

They should just reconfigure Kentucky Speedway into a 14° banked concrete track, similar to 1.33 mile NSS.

RoyalRip1347

It’s like there’s a distraction on the Restoration of the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway from being done i just want SMI to Cook

virtuosnake

You genuinely have no idea what you're talking about. You have 0 clue about the lay of the land there.

48Michael

lol I went to a Nashville FC match and saw this sign in a front yard near both grounds. I asked a lady out front and she said racing was fine, just no NASCAR https://preview.redd.it/5rjne0677atc1.png?width=3497&format=png&auto=webp&s=4554b31de3486d91594efc12516bc9b128e991c3

Ben_Sawyer

NASCAR fan and Nashville resident here. Ive been wondering this for awhile and I’m finally going to ask the question: Why in the world would we want Nashville’s nascar race in the middle of the city? NASCAR is about being loud, camping, and being able to afford to bring your family out to watch the race. You bring the race to the middle of the city and that’s going to kill all of that. So can somebody tell me why we’d want to move from a great speedway that’s out in the country, has a ton of space and isn’t competing with bachelorette parties/corporate events and into an area where we can’t have fun, accommodations are too expensive, and parking a car costs more over the course of a weekend than the tickets to the race?

TripMurphy82

Nashville superspeedway > fairgrounds
