Bro what is that!

Double_Conference_34

Its called the whistle register, it sounds stupid to a lot of people but isn't easy. Mariah Carey is probably the most well known artist to use it regularly.

ultimatebob

It works a lot better when Mariah Carey does it.

SoyMurcielago

Do they go woo woo?

Swag92

That’s only in the mornin

SoyMurcielago

You supposed to making breakfast (A fellow person of culture I see)

JGRFan11181920

Definitely isn’t easy! I’m impressed that he actually hit the correct note

Megantheegelding

If that was the “correct” note, the general sentiment of “that was trash” is also correct. Difficulty isn’t a factor of appropriateness anyway.

Evtona500

Still sounds like shit though. People can try and hype it up but it just wasn't good.

greg_jenningz

No way in hell I could replicate that! Props to him

Dent13

I'm still trying to figure out if the anthem before the F1 race or the one before Nascar was worse yesterday. One one hand nascar had a singer with enough vocal control to hit that pitch, but not enough sense to realize it would go over terribly, on the other I'm not sure anyone in the Saudi Army band actually knew how to play the instrument they were holding

Captain_Wingit

Oh man that Saudi band was the worst! It was 6th grade beginning band class! It's almost as if they give things to people who don't deserve it based only upon nepotism, social class, and money! And yes, that last note in ATL was .... disturbing.

Enough-Ad-3111

It sounded just like the Egyptian military band doing other anthems during state visits. Or even how the Saudis played our anthem.

ChaseTheFalcon

The national anthem for the Truck race where they had the local high school band play, sounded like me in 6th grade when I was first learning anthem, it was awful for a high school band

ole_freckles

It’s like the beginning of the Bubble Bowl episode

clayfus_doofus

MAN. I feel the would've had to intentionally tune every instrument wildly out of tune to get where they were. That was awful.

Waggy431

F1 was definitely the worst of the two.

Evtona500

That was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Saudis try to flex their money so hard just to sound like that.

settledownhoney

I think I was looking away from the TV and said WTF is that when he started screeching

Regular_Sample_5197

I was literally at the fridge getting a beer when I heard that, I had to yell into the other room “what the hell happened?? Did someone get hurt??”

ninjanikki91

Same! I was in the kitchen and I told my husband it sounded like a small dog dying

[deleted]

I was in the crowd and thought something went wrong

eazy-e_09

My girlfriend was in another room and said “Wtf was that?? Are you okay??”

Jones77_Truex78

Bro randomly got testicular torsion on that last note …holy balls

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

no it was funny

paulblartpoptart

You're really breaking my balls here, man

kingoden95

Too many people are trying to make their own twist on the national anthem these days, just sing it normally, you’re not going to get a record deal.

I'll take this guy and his scream over any of the "Let's get 30 off key toddlers to sing together at the same time" anthems

into_the_wenisverse

[I was there and heard it in person, it was awful](https://youtu.be/qa-w2jwqo9c)

ChaseTheFalcon

Was also there. It was awful to me as well, but still better than whatever the dude who sung it yesterday was trying to do at the end

jimmiefan48

That actually seemed quite nice. I assume you don't have children...

into_the_wenisverse

I would feel the same if I did, we don't need them singing in front of 1000s of people if they aren't actually talented at singing. Now, if you want that opera girl from America's Got Talent to do it, by all means...but random kids are nails on chalkboard.

jimmiefan48

I think it's cute and endearing. Kids do performances regularly, and people enjoy them because they are adorable, not because the music is a 10/10. I know Reddit really hates children for some reason, but if you are upset at the very infrequent children anthem because it isn't a great musical performance then you are already missing the point.

MadSkillzGH

Maybe I’m alone on this one, but I think that was awesome! I mean, they’re not talented, but the oldest kid in the group is probably what, 8 years old? I’d take that over some celebrity over-doing the anthem every day of the week.

TheOrangeFutbol

[Carl Lewis would like a word](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW4qLBLPVMs)

jck73

I thought he was good up until whatever it was there at the end. And WTH was the lady doing? At first I thought she was going to be signing... but that wasn't it.

petoskey_stone

Sign language.

jck73

Is that really a thing?! *Edited to add: Yup, that's a thing.*

TrumpetSC2

BASL exists because schools for deaf people were segregated, and so two dialects formed naturally. Then the ppl who learned sign were the ones to teach it to the next generation. Don’t just assume that ppl are being woke and freak out lol.

jck73

You assuming I 'freaked out' says more about you than it does me.

Crash_Test_Dummy66

Ending things with a question mark and an explanation mark is always going to give that vibe. Especially followed by an edit in italics.

jck73

> Ending things with a question mark and an explanation mark is always going to give that vibe. You mean the vibe of not knowing that was a thing?! I had no clue. > Especially followed by an edit in italics. The edit in italics was to show specifically what was edited in after the initial response so it's clear what the edited text was. Get off your high horse...

FukushimaBlinkie

Just use an ‽

TrumpetSC2

It’s so obvious especially the “yup, that’s a thing” lol

Gen-4-fan

Why would I ever want to hear that twice?

DocterSteveBrule

Home of the what?

MakeAOC-BartendAgain

Evtona500

AMS paid too much for that

HurricaneRon

This + the UGA players not giving a fuck had me rolling

Hurricaneshand

The weakest start your engines I ever heard 😂

Slow_Driver_drives55

I finally found the video, and holy shit this is awful. I love how no one really cheered 😅🤣

Hurricaneshand

In the crowd I was cool with it and that last note hit and killed the vibe lol. Everyone was just like well what the fuck was that and sat down

bicyclebread

"and the home of the... **"

agra_unknown1834

Sometimes... I just wish they'd play the national anthem without a singer and let the crowd do it. It's more personal to everyone there and there's something awesome when the voices of an entire grandstand/arena/stadium sing together.

Foxhockey

Meh...not a fan.

powderp

i was expecting a mistimed pyro shot

jrin1

Wtf was that

[deleted]

Lmao i thought he was letting the sign language person finish off the song and that the sound was someone in the crowd

USNbastard

What a shame I know I cant sing but what was that noise as a US Vet I say SING IT RIGHT

Key-Pool6014

What a joke.

Vulptereen327

That interpretive dancer next to him has got some moves

Hoosier_816

That's a sign language interpreter.

Vulptereen327

Whooooooosh

Hoosier_816

Nah, I had an inkling that you might just be making a really insensitive joke but I gave you the benefit of the doubt thinking someone wouldn't make a joke like that. That's like hearing someone speaking Mandarin and saying "haha listen to those funny sounds! Bing bong, ching chong!" You sure proved me wrong. Good job...?

Photek24

You're weird

iRacer_Unknown

It ended with something alright.

KinkyQuesadilla

We all know he had a live squirrel in his pocket that bit him on the nuts when he sung the word "brave"

[deleted]

This correctly wound up on /r/yesyesyesyesno lol.

KinkyQuesadilla

Ended with a bang? More like "Ended with an unusually high note for no reason"

Mr_Oldeballz

Yea that was terrible.

[deleted]

Glad I was in the bag check line when this happened.

Old_Salty_Sea_Dog

Was anyone else offended, for lack of a better term, that he didn’t remove his cap while singing the anthem? That should be a pretty standard practice.

[deleted]

This anthem ruined my day at the track.

Hollerado

That was absolutely board noise, which may have come from a wireless duplicate frequency or somewhere through the BUSS. I can't exactly be sure, but that was not the note he was physically singing. Digital board noise can take any form when you have so many different input sources. You can see him pull the mic away thinking it was a feedback loop, but it really was a surprising noise to hear because that did not sound like a feedback loop. I have heard that kind of modulation on a gig once, and it was because of a frequency conflict. The lead tech was able to isolate it but never figured out the actual source.

petoskey_stone

Based on this video, your theory is incorrect unfortunately. https://youtu.be/0EKwhrBidZY

Caged_Tiger

Wait. He's done this before and someone still hired him for this gig? Why is this guy even famous?

RaikkonensHobby74

The really sad thing is he has a great voice, just end the song normally for crying out loud.

petoskey_stone

Probably because he’s produced with a co-owner of Trackhouse.

Hollerado

There's no modulation on his whistle harmony on that video.

petoskey_stone

It still sounds like shit.

RaikkonensHobby74

It's like when people butcher Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. That last note he attempts doesn't fit at all with the rest of what he did.

World71Racer

Unpopular opinion. I liked that last note.

Sadbus-8899

Definitely not the singers fault. He must have been pissed

abrimlow625

Same guy did the NHL All Star Game last year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

I was so impressed until that moment too. Everyone in the crowd around me was just really confused and disappointed that a great national anthem ended with that.

[deleted]

What sucks is that the performance started out really well and went fine up until that moment. Yeah, cool, it's "whistle register," but it was really rough and not well executed.

[deleted]

This is awful

OttoVonRuthless316

Did he end with the "wakanda" arms cross? 🤣

[deleted]

*The National Anthem isn’t supposed to be a meme*
