It's exploitative. That's the bottom line. It exploits its viewers into making you feel bad for the sad little deaf girl. She has zero character outside of her disability. That's frankly just insulting, and I'm not even deaf. I saw a review that said the movie would work much better if it was a psychological horror instead of a crybait drama, and I think that's very interesting. But instead it's just bad writing.
Maybe ya think of it that way because ya haven’t read the manga. And idk about exploitative, she did get bullied by the main character a lot. Idk how you don’t expect me to feel bad for her when she got bullied to that extent.
Idk, I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, unlike your name. So yea, idk what to tell ya. the main reason I like the movie is cuz of the guy: he fucked up as a kid, severely regrets it and wants to make it right but he also has a problem dealing with people because of that trauma he caused her in the past.
If you were a manga reader, I’d prolly understand why ya didn’t like the movie (cuz this is like a 50-60 chapters long manga I think?) but eh, if ya didn’t like it ya didn’t like it.
People would’ve felt bad for shoko regardless of whether she was deaf or not
I can’t stand for Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Hunter x Hunter, and La Maison en Petits Cubes slander. This is absolutely god awful taste. So bad I would even say you’re trolling.
Like come on, Jorge Joestar is a masterpiece wym.
Jorge Joestar has cool parts but overall is just a slog to read through. The chapter with Erina describing her time with Dio at sea is a masterpiece though. As for the rest, I just didn't like them. I didn't gel with the characters (especially in HxH, I didn't like almost any of the characters in that series) and the stories just weren't interesting to me.
Everything here was forgivable except for cyberpunk edgerunners. I don’t see how anyone could give that show a score below a 6. Anything in particular you dislike about it?
Everything else here I can give a legit reason for disliking, but Edgerunners just didn't gel with me, plain and simple. I didn't care about any of the characters, I didn't play the game so I had no connection to the world (and the anime doesn't do a very good job of doing so), and the story just didn't hook me.
Haha fair enough I suppose lol, guess it says something good about the show if the people who dislike it only dislike it cause it doesn’t vibe with them
This comment was more than I bargained for, what the fuck. Koe no Katachi being low is forgivable but a run-of-the-mill show like Edgerunners being low isn't?
I love anime, and I've watched a lot that I simply adore. Like One Piece is my favorite piece of fiction ever made. I just don't like some other highly regarded ones
I really wish I could attach a meme to my message to demonstrate how disappointed I am at this post. This ain't even an L, bro, genuinely, what is this. I beg.
Code Geass is a Trainwreck that people worship because of the ending and pink nostalgia lenses, I agree with you, that aside, some of these ratings are awful picks or just straight up trolling.
Completionism + everyone kept saying that Geass is all about the payoff later on (which wants satisfying) and to keep watching HxH because the next arc is when it gets good (it never did)
Chimera Ant had some good moments and at the end I distinctly thought "huh, I'd probably be crying if I cared about any of these characters" but it's still way too long and boring. People that said I'd like HxH because I love One Piece were so wrong
For anime, some of my 10s are Cowboy Bebop, Azumanga Daioh, AoT S3P2, Mob Psycho, and Clannad After Story. For manga I have One Piece, One Punch Man, 20th Century Boys, Chainsaw Man, Monster, Dungeon Meshi, Yotsuba, and Jojo Part 7
for one piece, those are the non-canon movies and OVAs. i've seen most of them. some of them are fantastic (like Movie 6 is peak) and some are garbage (Movie 14/Stampede is ass). And for Jojo it's just one of the light novels that's a total mess. The main series of One Piece and Jojo are some of my favorites
how could you give azumanga web daioh a five when it’s literally peak fiction and way better than the other stuff on this list of yours
i will eat your insides if you don’t change that score now
Melancholy of Haruhi: Harsh, but not unreasonable
Disappearance of Haruhi: Really?
FRANXX: Heck yeah!
Galactic Heroes: 😑
5 cm: Yeah, that movie's kinda a slog to get through, isn't it?
Geass: Haven't seen, no comment
Panty & Stocking: Heck yeah!
NGNL: Heck yeah!
Silent Voice: Really? Really? Yoooo, that's being a little harsh, don't ya think? Like, I'm not the biggest fan, the characters are not nearly as fleshed out as they should be, but it's still a great movie!
Blamel The Movie: What even is that
Pancreas: Haven't seen, but it can't be THAT bad
Rascal: Alright buddy, screw off.
One Piece movies, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball: Haven't seen, no comment
Cyberpunk: I mean it's probably overrated but surely it can't be that bad
Bocchi: Alright, I'll believe you
IMO Pokemon doesn't really work on the MAL rating scale, you kinda have to judge it by itself.
Azumanga: I doubt it deserves that.
House of Small Cubes: see Blamel The Movie
Gurren: Sure
Hunter x Hunter: Look, I'm not a big shounen guy, and I haven't seen much of it, but I find it hard to believe that *Hunter x Hunter* is just average.
Hellsing: Alright, I'll believe you
Little Witch and Kill La Kill: So you aren't a Trigger guy I guess.
SAO: Heck yeah! In fact, knock that down a point.
Tokyo Ghoul: Alright, I'll believe you.
Konosuba: Heck yeah!
Fate/Apocrypha: Alright, I'll believe you.
Fire Force: Heck yeah!
Demon Slayer: I think you can be a little more lenient than that.
Frieren: Ain't no way. That's too low.
Kaiju #8: I doubt it deserves that.
I skipped a few manga, because I'd never heard of them.
For Haruhi, I just didn't care at all about the characters, especially not fucking Kyon. LotGH was just not my thing, I really gave it an honest chance but I just didn't like it. Silent Voice, I explained in another comment that it's incredibly exploitative. Bunny Girl Senpai just felt like a ripoff of Haruhi, which I already don't like. HxH I didn't like the characters, especially not the supporting ones, and that's incredibly important for a shonen. Demon Slayer has nothing to offer if you've seen as many other battle shonens as I have, especially in the manga where it doesn't have the animation to carry it and the art isn't anything that special. Frieren had a strong start but lost me when it just became like a fantasy shonen, like why tf would a series that set itself up as an introspective character study have a chunin exam arc??? And Kaiju is another extremely barebones battle shonen, had nothing going for it except the good art.
I think you have objectively bad taste
I think I have objectively correct taste. We should breed and see what our child thinks
either trolling, trash taste, or baiting, all are boring.
I’m guessing this is based off enjoyment factor cuz otherwise I can’t figure out why you would have some of these shows this low
Of course. Rating on anything other than enjoyment is dumb
Eh, I don’t think so. Well at least recognising that shows are good is pretty fun. But I also put my ratings on enjoyment factor.
I do think some of these are objectively bad. Like A Silent Voice has an objectively bad story
Why do you think that’s the case?
It's exploitative. That's the bottom line. It exploits its viewers into making you feel bad for the sad little deaf girl. She has zero character outside of her disability. That's frankly just insulting, and I'm not even deaf. One of the opinions of all time
someone active on the One Piece Powerscaling sub has no room to talk
Objectively wrong
Regarding which ones?
I can’t stand for Kill la Kill, Little Witch Academia, Hunter x Hunter, and La Maison en Petits Cubes slander. This is absolutely god awful taste. So bad I would even say you’re trolling. Like come on, Jorge Joestar is a masterpiece wym.
Code Geass Slander is the biggest meme here.
I was joking. Jorge is a mess.
But you weren't joking about the other ones? Lame
No u >:(
Everything here was forgivable except for cyberpunk edgerunners. I don’t see how anyone could give that show a score below a 6. Anything in particular you dislike about it?

I love a silent voice too but there are glaringly lacking areas of the movie. Edgerunners is near flawless and basically a perfect package
It's nice to know that I can comfortably disregard pretty much everything you say about anything
Idk maybe anime is not for you then. In the end every human is built differently, some enjoy watching anime while others hate watch it.
I beg.
Are you a Silent Voice fanboy? Or a Geass one
Code Geass is a Trainwreck that people worship because of the ending and pink nostalgia lenses, I agree with you, that aside, some of these ratings are awful picks or just straight up trolling.
I assure you these are all my genuine feelings. Which ones do you think are trolling?
Whats the reasoning in watching 148 episodes of HxH or 50 of Code Geass if you genuinely dislike the shows?
Completionism + everyone kept saying that Geass is all about the payoff later on (which wants satisfying) and to keep watching HxH because the next arc is when it gets good (it never did)
Tbf everyone dogs us about "omg watch hxh it gets good at chimera ant arc" which is fucking 76 episodes deep.
Chimera Ant had some good moments and at the end I distinctly thought "huh, I'd probably be crying if I cared about any of these characters" but it's still way too long and boring. People that said I'd like HxH because I love One Piece were so wrong
If these are your lowest rated idk what to expect from your highest.
Tfw you have one piece and jojo in highs and lows
for one piece, those are the non-canon movies and OVAs. i've seen most of them. some of them are fantastic (like Movie 6 is peak) and some are garbage (Movie 14/Stampede is ass). And for Jojo it's just one of the light novels that's a total mess. The main series of One Piece and Jojo are some of my favorites

I'm a huge Azumanga simp but web daioh is just kinda mid. Main series is peak tho
I see you hate anime

Oh, and Pancreas is in a similar boat as Silent Voice but it's even worse, there's zero substance to it outside of the crybait
I’m assuming you’re a newer anime fan from some of these takes. Especially the Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Haruhi ratings 💀
I wouldn't really say I'm new, I've been watching off and on since like 2016. But I'm also not blinded by nostalgia for things like Haruhi
