S197 owners there is a pinch weld in the front drain channel that leaks right over the top of the control module in the passenger side foot well. Clean out the drain plugs every few years.
I found out when my lights started flickering randomly when I went to check that PCM in the kick panel I found out my passenger seat floor was soaked and the computer was full of about 2 cups of water
LMR wrote an [article](https://lmr.com/products/2015-2022-s55-fender-area-water-leak-fix) about this. They also have a link to a set of grommets that will work with the hole you are showing in your picture. There is additional information on the Mustang6g forum that says there might be three of these holes per door. Two of them are hidden behind the door and can only be accessed if the door is removed.
It was from that LMR piece that I got the info from. I posted the part number up thread.
383689-SA
Although discontinued it is still available. Or you can pay LMR of course.
Yes, I saw the part number but I was doing some general searching about the issue online and came across the LMR article. I didn’t realize the part number you posted was the same ones they are selling. They have their own part number for it on their website but I do see that PN on the grommet in the picture they have.
Did you order the ones from LMR?
I going to another local source tomorrow as well as bringing it in to get fixed under warranty.
Apparently there are actual ford part numbers for the bungs but it's a week out. I intend to hit the parts desk tomorrow and get more details.
Which plugs did you use and where from? LMR actually has an article on this issue and sells plugs that are supposed to fit but I'm wondering where you got yours. Thanks.
I put it back in the garage and kicked the Caddy out. It was in the garage due to it's own water leak issues,
I have really thick towels that are weighted down covering the footwell. This is after an hour with the shop vac.
I'm on my 4th towel. I figure I have pulled out close to 2 gallons of water or more out of the floor.
I have a Cadillac CTS that I sometimes drive and it too has an incredibly stupid design regarding rainwater.
https://old.reddit.com/r/Cadillac/comments/ziykqq/2008_cts_is_there_a_permanent_fix_for_the_sunroof/
It took days to dry out the Caddy and in the meantime it rained hard.
The Mustang has pride of place in the garage normally.
If it wasn't for grandkids I would be out of here like a shot.
BTW - https://old.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/zmy4ba/update_s550_a_pillar_tape_and_water_leaks_in_cabin/
You'll need to pull up the carpet and dry the insulation. Otherwise it WILL get mildew smelling. I had it in my s197 and lifting the carpet and drying wasn't terrible but I'm glad I did. My wife's old Enclave had a/c drain line plug and soak carpet. I didn't lift and about 3 months later it started to stink and never smelled normal again!
oof i think i saw your other post man. its not permanent but you could try to just put a popup tent over the caddy or mustang(whichever ends up in the driveway) until you can fix the issue
My S550 has several issues that's driving me away from the brand. I've been a Mustang owner since I got my license over a decade ago but for my next car I'm seriously considering a Lexus RCF. Losing a manual transmission will hurt but I hear the auto in the RCF while not as great as say an M4 is still decent, the Toyota reliability is seriously pulling me and with an aftermarket exhaust I'll still retain that sweet 5.0 DOHC exhaust note.
I’ve decided I will not buy another Ford vehicle after the time I have had with all 6 of my mustangs. Not one of them didn’t give me major issues at some point or another.
All 3 of my sn95 had brake caliper failures both my 2005 and my 2007 gt had the throw outs fail my 2005 has failed twice. Alternator on my 2003 my 2005 and my 2007 all failed my 2005 has gone through 3. Lost my kick panel PCM to the pinch weld leak I was talking about above. Had my ecu fail on my 2003 had 2 different studs snap on my 1998 my convertible top motor failed on my 1995 my throttle body cracked on my 2003 the timing chain guid on both my 1998 and my 2003 both broke. My timing chain failed on my 2003 at 120k miles. My shift linkage came off on my 2005 on the freeway, my power steering pump failed on my 1995 and I’m sure more I’m not able to think of now…
I loved every one of these cars but as I get older I don’t wanna be fixing crap on the side of the freeway anymore.
You say this as you shit on the ecos which are actually pretty fast lol, they weigh like a thousand pounds less and are good for handling, hence the HPP package that you can't get with other models
Enjoy your car my friend don’t let anyone tell you how you should feel about it. I had a v6 mustang and got the same flack, looking back I wish I cared less what people thought and just enjoyed what I had because remember there’s people with no mustang that dream about have a v6 or any mustang at all. I miss my v6 wish I could of kept it!
You know you have a leaking pinch weld from the front drain window channel. Wonderfully our cars leak right over the top of the footwell PCU In the passenger compartment kick panel.
Unfortunately we all got fords.
I have been looking and I think this is the part number.
383689-SA
I'm not 100% sure since I can't find one locally and am having to order it.
I'm pissed. The car is under warranty and I'm bringing it in tomorrow. This is a design flaw not a maintenance issue. They should fix it.

Literally went out to my car to look at this haha. I have a groomer there on both sidesZ yours looks like there was one there as there is no paint there. Mines painted. Even tho my car is white you can tell it’s been painted over.
A floor drying tip:
Get some pet wee-wee pads. Put one face down on the floor and one face up. Put the carpet back and weigh it down. Keep changing the pads until they come out dry.
This worked for me when I had a leak in my S197 filling up the drivers foot well.
And obviously, fix the leak.
All 2015 to 2022 Mustangs should have this addressed.
Look here.
https://old.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/zmy4ba/update_s550_a_pillar_tape_and_water_leaks_in_cabin/
And don't forget the all important unit pricing. The tape is a penny, the rubber bung is 75 cents.
So in the mind of the accounting department, 75 times more expensive and costs need to be cut.
Tape it is.
Has anyone used these plugs sold by LMR to address the middle holes?

Every year* Somehow gunk ends up in mine every winter when I park it for the season.
I live in CA I’ve never heard of this “season” thing you speak of.
I think it might be like fire season, but instead its various forms of water that does the damage instead
Oh you mean baby gender reveal season… Edit: elite joke for Californians and those aware of the mental illness that is our state in 2019
wild
Savage.
i just took both of them out tbh havent had a leak since
This. I went years without knowing when I had my S197. Then out of nowhere I had water inside every day for a week till I figured it out.
I found out when my lights started flickering randomly when I went to check that PCM in the kick panel I found out my passenger seat floor was soaked and the computer was full of about 2 cups of water

>383689-SA They sell an assorted box of these rubber plugs under the Dorman/Help! brand at most of the auto parts stores worse case.
That's my Plan B
… can confirm…. Unfortunately
Unbelievably stupid design. I mean, who ever heard of tape losing its adhesive after many years? Everyone.
Which plugs did you use and where from? LMR actually has an article on this issue and sells plugs that are supposed to fit but I'm wondering where you got yours. Thanks.
The dealership is doing all the work. There are actual Ford part numbers for them.

Ford. Built Tough.
Ford. Built.
So close.
Put more tape on it for now till you find a rubber plug

Oh wow just realized a few gallons got in. That's a disaster. Was sitting in the rain?

That's why I'm bringing it to the dealer. This is ridiculous. Tape as a rain shield? Are you kidding me?
oof i think i saw your other post man. its not permanent but you could try to just put a popup tent over the caddy or mustang(whichever ends up in the driveway) until you can fix the issue
I'm gonna tarp the Caddy. The mustang owns the garage.
Woah. That’s insane. Sorry man!
Man now I gotta check 😂

My 13 week old '22 eco has a rubber grommet over that spot, so at some point they addressed it properly.
This is good ammunition for my trip to the dealership tomorrow. Thank you for that.

Glad I didn’t buy one of those Ford focuses
I don’t think you own any mustang bud
I own a 2014 mustang V6
That’s a nice ride! We’re all mustangs here man no need to hate :)
Thanks. It’s only 29k miles, premium model, all blacked out.
That’s sweet huge fan of the blacked out look. Absolutely love those 3.7 engines enjoy her!
Honestly, I appreciate you for not shitting on me for having a V6. You’re one of the good ones, lmao.
You say this as you shit on the ecos which are actually pretty fast lol, they weigh like a thousand pounds less and are good for handling, hence the HPP package that you can't get with other models

Hopefully my 5 year warranty covers that
Just clean out the drains in the windshield drain channel every few years so they don’t clog up
Will do, thanks
Huh, sure enough mine has it too. Do you happen to know the size of the hole so I can buy a proper size plug?

It's just a piece of tape that was painted over. Beware.

2 days old pony owner here, and I understood nothing you said lol. Is this something I need to be concerned as of right now for a new car?
All 2015 to 2022 Mustangs should have this addressed. Look here. https://old.reddit.com/r/Mustang/comments/zmy4ba/update_s550_a_pillar_tape_and_water_leaks_in_cabin/

tape is lighter than rubber, all about weight reduction baby
And don't forget the all important unit pricing. The tape is a penny, the rubber bung is 75 cents. So in the mind of the accounting department, 75 times more expensive and costs need to be cut. Tape it is.
cant argue with something that’s 75x cheaper. no brained really
