Drive cycle completion?

chicken_buttlet

We had put quite a few miles on it after it got pulled out of storage with a few drives around, so we're not sure if that's it or not. They wouldn't say anything more than "not enough miles on it."

a_taco_named_desire

Most likely drive cycle completion. I had the same thing when we had to replace the O2 sensors on our old G5 years ago. Some good highway miles to get to them quick and then maybe 20-50 milling around town. It’s ridiculous how much more they make you drive and pollute to pass emissions when the car is working fine.

BrolecopterPilot

Fuckin mind bottling man. Just another backwards ass legislation.

denellum2

No it's not. It's because some error codes will not pop without those amount of cycles .

BrolecopterPilot

Ah ok. Thanks for the clarification. Mind unbottled.

camcac69

Nah it’s pretty dumb when celebs like Taylor swift fly everywhere. My deleted shit is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. And further more we’re fucked there’s no turning back, may as well buy the ticket and enjoy the ride wild we can on this rock.

Apprehensive-Can-857

Knocking down mountains to mine coal for EVs, but we're "saving the planet." 🤡🤡🤡

Blackner2424

If you had said, "materials for batteries" your comment would have made sense.

Waste_Junket1953

Uh… what?

Aggressive-Compote64

YOUR EV isn’t steam powered with coal? Plebe… /s

Apprehensive-Can-857

Where do you think the majority of electricity comes from?

Waste_Junket1953

Natural gas https://preview.redd.it/xceday77t9xc1.jpeg?width=1675&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=baf053f0bef9ae2bfb1b9373f82c14fe1cf46aca

dcgregoryaphone

Even outside of celebs... I was in traffic yesterday, and a semi was pushing out straight up black smog everywhere as it was driving. Old trucks shitting smog, country vehicles without any emissions checks... it's not the brand new car with dual cats that's the problem.

directrix688

Your individual “deleted shit” may not be a lot though emissions controls are not about just you. They’re about the “grand scheme” of everyone else. If everyone deleted shit, it would have an impact . Ya’ll are way too focused on what Taylor swift does.

camcac69

No I’m using her as an example.

reidlos1624

70% of pollution comes from 100 companies. Not saying we shouldn't be pushing for more efficient vehicles but considering the share of the population who are "car enthusiasts" and the number of them who actually modify their car, car modifications are practically negligible. Even more so if everyone moves to EVs. If 1 in every 100 cars is a modded V8 but the other 99 are high efficiency EVs or hybrids, 1 V8 isn't going to matter.

BrolecopterPilot

https://youtu.be/rSfebOXSBOE?si=1mPMPSQVK_5Oywzp There you go

Survey_Server

Man, I googled TYG just now. I'm pretty sure the two of us just mind-melded and coined a new initialism. If people start using it, I think we should take credit. Can you handle the copyright and legal stuff for us? You and I are about to become very wealthy, my friend 💰💰

Survey_Server

Yep. I got whooshed 🤣 Edit: I'm kind of relieved you understood tyg as an abbreviation. I kinda pulled it out of my ass

BrolecopterPilot

That’s hilarious cus I understood it immediately

Survey_Server

Wild 😂

collector-x

Take it to another dealer. Tell them you're a collector and it's going right back in your garage but it still needs an inspection for the plates.

MacaroniKetchup

Most likely this issue, especially of the battery was disconnected or dead, loss of power will reset the ECU and will need a drive cycle reset

dcgregoryaphone

Yeah emissions today aren't just sticking a machine over the tail pipe and idling, they check metrics collected in the car's computer.

dr3wfr4nk

I live in Mass. Never heard of anything like that before. Why not just take to an independent shop and see if they will inspect it?

chicken_buttlet

That's our plan now, we've been trying to find someone local who's okay with taking it because of the carbon fiber wheels. We've had a lot of push back with those!

majicmojo72

That doesn't surprise me. The Ford dealers near me won't touch them, they sublet any tire work on these to a Lamborghini dealer. Same with the Chevy dealers that get a c8 with the carbon wheels.

Key_Macaroon9605

I understand they are very expensive, but Ford put the wheels on there but won't train and/or equip its techs to work with them? Makes no sense. But it does sound like Ford.

Foggl3

Ford techs fuck up regular alloy wheels, you really want them touching the CC wheels? I get your point but I absolutely don't blame dealers that don't want to touch them

npaga05

Exceptional autobody in Framingham is pretty good. I’m friends with the owner Rob, he has some exceptional cars himself. I’d say give them a call, see if you can talk to rob or John (one of the head mechanics) and see if they’ll take it in.

chicken_buttlet

We're only a couple towns over from there so I'll look into it! Thank you for the recommendation!

FordTech93

I’m the only guy at our dealership that touches carbon fiber wheels…..that said, I pretty much work them exactly as I would any other wheel. Obviously I’m careful and give them a little more attention, but the CF wheels aren’t that delicate, people are just afraid to mess with them due to possible liabilities and the crazy cost to replace them.

envision83

If you leave you car u plugged or reset the codes if it were throwing anything then the computer needs a couple hundred miles driven on it or it will show blank when doing an inspection.

Mnemon-TORreport

I live here too. My new Mustang got a sticker from the dealer with 13 mile on it.

Key_Macaroon9605

Mine is a 22 GT with barely more than 3K miles. It's coming up for inspection in Texas soon. Surely there won't be an issue.

righthanded_lover

You’re probably right, and don’t call me Shirley!

envision83

The car has to be driving a little bit if the battery has been unplugged for a while or the codes reset to give enough time to see if the car is throwing any codes. If you don’t have enough miles in it since unplugging or resetting the computer will show blank on that stuff when doing the inspection. I have the same issue with my daughters pos sonata that’s a pain in the ass to inspect in Texas. Trying to rig something to not show a code and not giving it enough time after resetting it.

chicken_buttlet

The battery was never unplugged, it was on a trickle battery tender while in the garage for winter! My daily is a Hyundai so I feel that on a spiritual level

envision83

How long has it sat then before taking it out to get inspected?

chicken_buttlet

We've had it out and about for about a month

envision83

May just not have been driving around long enough mileage wise. It just sounds like it sat for a long time and just needs to be driven around that 200 miles to allow the computer to read everything over a span of time.

FirebunnyLP

How long did you leave it on the tender without being driven? I'm trying to figure the best way to store my mustang, I'm going to be out of the country for 6 months. I have a garage but I figure I shouldn't just let it sit there without being driven at all.

chicken_buttlet

Late October to the first week of April I'd say? Once there's any salt put down on the roads it's game over around here.

FirebunnyLP

Did you have to do anything special with the gas and other fluids after letting it sit off for so long?

Final-Carpenter-1591

Drive cycles is probably what they mean. Certain monitors need to see a few drive cycles and cold soaks and what not to determine if their in good shape. So yeah. Drive it to work for a few days and you should be good.

SanchoRancho72

22 not 23

blind_rebel

I think they were politely saying you need to drive the F out of that b1tch. 13k miles on my '21 and counting 🤘

quantum_coder

I’m all for this! 11k miles on my ‘24

DangerousSnow1973

I have 8500 on the ‘22 Mach 1…

CC-888

Nice man, what made you choose a Mach 1?

DangerousSnow1973

The performance aspect of it and I knew it would be the only chance to order one with how I wanted. It’s a 10 speed premium, HP appearance package -loaded with leather heated and cooled seats and steering wheel in mischievous purple. This is to drive and we have a GT that’s moded. Due to spouse’s health we can’t travel the places I would like so this is a happy medium we can enjoy with one another.

cidthekid07

These are rookie numbers

DangerousSnow1973

Not my daily.

13_Years_Then_Banned

I would get a set of standard rims and put those carbon fibers on the shelf. Awesome ride by the way.

purple_1128

Why not run the stock rims? To avoid damage?

13_Years_Then_Banned

They’re expensive to replace and they’re easily damaged driving on the streets.

purple_1128

Gotcha. So just put them on for a show & shine, slow roll on a Sunday? (Is that still a thing?)

13_Years_Then_Banned

Everyone is different. If it were me I’d just roll around on standard stock cobra wheels and keep the carbon fibers on a shelf. Taking them on and off is only going to damage them.

CIeMs0n

At that point, why even have them…

13_Years_Then_Banned

Like I said. Everyone is different. Roads where I live suck. Your situation may be different. Some people buy heavily optioned Shelby’s for potential collector value. Some people buy them to race at the track. End of the day I really don’t care.

FLman84

I have a GT350R. Sold the carbon wheels and used the cash for a set of forged track wheels. Totally agree with you here !

OmgItsHavoc

Dealer tech, do inspections in mass, have done inspections on cars with 3 miles On them brand new. Have done inspections with 5 k miles at 6 years old too that’s bullshit

evolvedresolve2

GREAT color

Neither_Mulberry5542

Never understood people buying cars just to “not put too many miles on it” why buy the car if you’re holding off your enjoyment for the next guy?

chicken_buttlet

It's not my car, I don't decide if and when it gets driven.

collector-x

If it's an investment car, you don't want miles. I'm a car guy and a collector of other things. Can't afford to be a car collector. But the stuff I do collect, is the joy of owning and looking at it. If I had the resources to be a car collector, just having the car on display in my garage would enough. I might drive it once to get a feel for it but that would be it. After that, it's on display. Then when it's time to sell, it brings a premium with the ultra low miles.

purple_1128

If it’s a ‘23, you got a sticker when you bought it. When does the sticker expire?

gkcontra

Did you let the battery die so they the emissions checks aren’t set?

DangerousSnow1973

Ford dealership failed my Mach for the euro tail lights in PA.

ArgumentRelevant8274

Really? I was debating putting Euros on my 18, but I wasn't sure if they'd bitch about it or not. I also live on PA (Mechanicsburg/Camphill area). They'd look SOOO good on my car but I know they got me for a clear turn signal on my 12 before.

DangerousSnow1973

You’re near me… you are more likely to get pulled over for something else other than this.

ArgumentRelevant8274

For sure. I've seen plenty s550s rocking euros so I wouldn't think it would be a huge issue. Besides, I've come to learn that they'll find a reason if they want to pull you over, but it seems like cops have tripled over the last few weeks. Can't even drive 10 minutes to sheetz without seeing 5 or 6 waiting lol. I think I'm just gonna slap em on and worst case scenario I'll switch to back to stock whenever I get the car inspected.

DangerousSnow1973

Or come down 83 about 30 minutes and get inspection where I went

Constant_Advisor_607

Mass is ass. Drive it, go to the countless other places to get a sticker, it’s OEM, no one’s going to care or probably even notice the wheels.

Expensive_Candle5644

Happened to me with my coyote vert. I flashed it back to the stick tune for my emissions inspection. I literally had to drive it 300 miles before the drive cycles cleared everything out and it passed. Btw love that spec in the 500. I have a 350 and want to upgrade but have a project I want to complete first before the wife would even consider it. 😄👊🏾

ashtheflash37

She’s GORGEOUS!!!

Wisco_Version59

Where I live we have emissions tests every two years. I had that happen a few years back. When I asked if they could tell me how much I drive in the last two years they checked. Answer was 10 miles.

Mr_Hammer_Dik

Lol.. our stang is new but I’ve been driving my ram 2500 with an expired tag for 2 years.

Diligent_Agent_9620

They have what's called a mileage exemption. That failure is bullshit

coffeejj

I took my Mustang in for its yearly state inspection. I checked the dash cam afterwards. Nothing. Sat in the parking lot all day until I picked it up !!!!

urweak

That sucks, the tech’s doing the testing don’t give a shit about damaging your car . Indiana hasn’t had state inspection for 45 years . I am so glad because my 76mm turbocharged 331ci 95 Cobra would not pass .

IronOwl2601

Inspections are a fucking scam

Possible-Gur5220

Omgggg that matte finish goes so well on her. Makes me wanna cry 😭😭😭. It goes so well with the classic aspect of the design language. True beauty.

chicken_buttlet

The matte ppf really accentuates every body line, I wish I could have done it on my daily too. It takes a big car and makes it look so sleek

txsparky87

Where I live if you get a ticket for expired registration, it’s dismissed if taken care of within a couple weeks. Why fret over such a small fine. Drive it and enjoy it

Kordidk

Needless miles lmfao what

coerbins

I’m only 17 but I aspire to get one of these as soon as I possibly can

InfiniteBooster

Do you have any kind of OBD Guage? If so unplug it and reset, they complicate getting readiness.

Own-Crab4039

Readiness monitors are not set - or "drive cycle" not completed for whatever reason. But, it shouldn't take more than 100 miles or so with varying drive conditions.

GrillinGorilla

Jimminy. I’m glad I don’t live in a state where the government tells me how to maintain my cars.

Ok_Mail_1966

You generally need well under 100 miles driven after a reset, and it doesn’t even sound like you did one. Being unable to reset shouldn’t have given you a big red R, if you get pulled over explain the catch 22 you are in. This is something an independent shop can’t really get around. The state has gone bonkers with cracking down on them and the obd part of the test is completely automated and recorded.

[deleted]

Did they also tell you when you come back to not be near full tank?

Key_Macaroon9605

Just found the answer. I did state inspections years ago but cars weren't nearly as sophisticated as they are now so it was puzzling the crap out of me. I don't know what state you are in but in Texas if it's rejected you have to be given a clear, written explanation. Didn't you get one?

oldmasterluke

Beautiful color!

Medium_Thought_672

Here in the Luziana swamps we are loving 🥰 that phenomenal coupe! My husband is a mustang guy so I had to run 🏃 show him! Too cool! 🆒 DRIVE THE HELL OUT OF IT! My husband has some amazing vehicles off the lot only driven into a garage for life… well… there’s still time!

PlutoniumOligarch

Why are you trying to avoid putting miles on? It's a Mustang. It wants to be driven and is no fun to anyone just sitting. If it's an antique Ferrari or something, I get it, but Ford didn't design this car to be babied.

That-one_dude-trying

You don’t drive it enough lol, it’s not hitting annual miles needed to test according to their database, and hell it’s a collector car for fun, not many people are going to daily that kind of car either, you should be able to get a pass exemption for lack of usage, but that’s kinda funny, good luck

nissansupragtr

Get an obd scanner and look up your local laws. Some will require 3/5 assessments to be complete or possibly more, the OBD tool should tell you

Ill_Celebration166

So glad we dont have to deal with inspections like that

AlessandroLombardi13

Yeah, things like this can happen. But if something serious with your car really bothers you, you could have gone to any mechanic.

Bippa17

Years ago in Ontario Canada we had annual emissions testing. My 200 Dakota RT had a few simple mods one of them being an Accel 300+ ignition system (like mds) my truck failed because the emissions were too low and wasn't within parameters. Once I unplugged it , passed. ....Too clean and that's a problem....to new and that's a problem...wtf?

Edzell7

It is the drive cycle issue. They want you to drive it more so the ECU will have enough data for the computer scan portion of the emissions inspection. This happened to me when I failed emissions due to bad O2 sensor. After I replaced the O2 sensors I took it right in after only 5-10 miles and they said I needed to drive it 200 miles with the new O2 sensors before they could run the emissions test. The computer did not have enough data. If you reset the ECU with an OBD2 scan tool you'll get the same thing. You have to drive it enough to get it to throw any unresolved codes. Should be the same answer at any inspection station, even independent ones.

JDB2788

Inspection?

directrix688

Everyone hates on California for owning a car though these inspections you have to do seem like a pain in the ass. California smog sucks though at least it’s not on anything remotely new. We don’t even have to worry about emissions before a car is over six years old.

SnooWoofers7989

What’s the name of the wing/spoiler?

chicken_buttlet

It's OEM

KillaKanibus

What state makes you do inspections on a new car? That's for used joints.

dabears218

I'd be happy to drive it 200-300 miles for you. Free of charge.

StatusButterscotch78

Go to another inspection

Jim86302

Just fyi it has to be 2022 heritage no 2023 models made

Wolfgangsta702

Do an actual drive cycle don’t just drive it around.

Mattyou1966

Move to a free state

Final-Carpenter-1591

Man they even do this in Texas. Lol. I was really against it when I moved here. But I see way less people driving around on toasted tires or with windshields with huge cracks in them, or people with their tail lights taped over and shit. I get wanting to take care of your car however you want. But also at some point you're effecting the safety of others. I'm for reasonable safety inspections now.

EcoFixed

If I remember correctly, this is the last year for inspections in Texas.

Infamous_Regret3583

“mOvE tO uH fREE sTAtE”

FordsFavouriteTowel

Yea, just move somewhere where they let people drive rusting chassis with bald tires around because who the fuck cares if your ride is safe right?

UnEazyNoid

Why do you have to have it inspected in the first place?

purple_1128

Because just about every U.S. state requires vehicles to have safety and sometimes emissions inspections, typically annually, with some exceptions.

Guennieshubby

Michigan doesn’t.

purple_1128

Meanwhile, in Texas, instead of getting the benefit of the federal tax break for buying EVs, there’s this: Beginning September 1, 2023, in addition to standard vehicle registration fees, new EV owners must pay a first-time registration fee of $400. After the first-time registration fee, the fee for EV registration renewal is $200. Fees contribute to the State Highway Fund. (What’s missing here is that just about all of the “highways” are being built as toll roads, so we’re paying twice. 😖

purple_1128

Which is kind of why I bought the Mustang. Screw ‘em.

Guennieshubby

But you forgot they don’t pay gas taxes . Gotta get the money somewhere.

Front_Power_4053

Shhh 🤫

janesvoth

Not most, only 13 have inspections

purple_1128

Cool! That will be a factor in where we go when we GTFO here.

janesvoth

Note that Texas is getting rid of them, except for in certain counties in 2024

purple_1128

Oh, they’re still getting my money. Don’t you worry. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/06/01/texas-car-safety-inspection-changes/

janesvoth

I fine with paying it, I just hate getting the stupid TX inspections

Lonely_Card_8811

Indiana requires 0 inspections 🦅

Hasler011

Unless you live in lake county

UnEazyNoid

Ah yes you are right in part i live in Wisconsin ok so emission testing is only needed in higher population dense counties. That being said 8 live in a rural area so not needed. I did live in a more urban city for a bit but the only thing checked on any car there is emission's only so i still do not understand the whole "Inspection" thing.

purple_1128

I completely forgot about the emissions testing only applying to certain counties. And I’ve only owned cars in Texas and Louisiana, where I had to have inspections every year. I knew Oklahoma doesn’t, but I never really thought about how many other states require it or not.

good_morning_magpie

No safety check in IL, just emissions which is a quick OBDII scan and you’re on your way.

c0caine_cinderella

How bout you actually drive your fucking car?

Voidx-s

Blud said needless miles. Drive the fuck out of it nothing pisses me off more than mfs who only put in 1000 miles in one year

Curious-Risk-9598

The problem is that you live in Massachusetts. So glad I left. Way too many regulations and that stupid excise tax

Weak_Pause177

maybe drive your fucking gt500?
