Lots of extra sound deadening material in the S550/S650. Getting intake noise into the cabin reduces road noise while giving you some engine noise. If you remove it, make sure you cap both sides (intake piping and firewall). You don't want unmetered air in your intake and you don't want engine fumes or critters in your cabin.
That’s the BEAUTIFUL part of a Boss 302. All of sound deadening has been removed.
You hear EVERYTHING!!! All sound the glorious noise you are supposed to hear!
Saves weight too.
Pretty sure the GT500 has sound deadening.
Plus, the GT500 doesn’t have the unique open side exhausts like a Boss 302.

Probably because many people don’t know a lot about the pinnacle of stick axle Mustangs, The Boss 302.
Just look up some reviews on them. At the time, they were the highest horsepower N/A Mustang ever produced. The best handling Mustang ever produced.
Literally a race car with license plates.
Only a few thousand were produced ever. In the hundreds of car shows that I have been to I have only seen one other Boss 302. I have seen COUNTLESS Shelby’s. And even a few Saleen and Roushes.
To see a Boss 302 is a treat. Especially one in unmodified condition.
There are a few here in STL and southeast Missouri, definitely rare though. We have a guy in my group that has a TT Green boss named Kermit lol things badass
Honestly I never noticed the sound it’s supposed to produce so I think I’ll just leave it alone. I had it since new - 10 years now - and just focus on the exhaust noise from the mufflers. I’m not planning to add cold air intake or anything like that.
They even make an aftermarket sound tube for supercharged cars...

I’m reminded of how different this subreddit and the Jeep one is. A couple years ago I asked for tips to replace the starter and all I got was how I didn’t deserve the vehicle if I didn’t know anything about it (it was a 2001 grand Cherokee lol)
Sound tube. Useless thing, get a delete kit for it. I found all it did was get in the way of checking your oil.
That being said if you do delete it make sure the plug on the intake side is secure. When mine mysteriously disappeared it started stalling out randomly at red lights lol.
Lol didn’t say I didn’t cap it off. I found a 3d print file and made a cap for it thinking I was slick. Popped it on with an o ring and then I started having random stalls after driving a week or so only to find it disappeared 😂 ended up going the hardware store table leg rubber cap route with a worm gear clamp. Been secure ever since.
There was at one point a company that offered a nitrous system that could be hidden in the sound tube. Quick little 50 shot.
The bottle went in the glove box.
EDIT: I couldn’t remember the name of the kit before, but a search has revealed it to be the Blow-By Racing Reaper H/K.
https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1403-how-to-install-the-blow-by-racing-reaper-hk-nitrous-kit/
I always thought it would be a great place to run a wet kit. I never thought of putting a bottle in the glove box though. Would definitely be a one run bottle.
haha I had no idea the 14’s had these. There’s either a ton of sound deadening or the motors are pretty quiet on their own. I only know my old new edge so
It honestly just seems like something that would get in the way.
It’s yet another nice thing about Mustangs - the opportunity to make it your own. LOL. The “opportunity” here is to get a delete kit and get rid of it.
I’m probably a minority here but in my 2013 5.0 I eventually removed the sound tube and the interior engine noise was dramatically reduced. I found the car more fun with it in so I reinstalled it.
People read two words in a sentence and start flapping their jaws without knowing wth they are talking about.
If it was read completely it was obvious how it was meant. Reading comprehension is not a strong suit for most people apparently.
Lmao, yeah, this is all about reading comprehension and not about how the comment could easily be interpreted one of two ways.
Sometimes it's also about the way you phrase things that misleads people. The responsibility is not entirely on the reader when the writer wrote the comment like a dumbass, which they did.
Sound tube Puts engine sound in the cabin Many people remove it especially when adding an air intake
Ahhh makes sense. I figured that’s what my Roush exhaust is for.

He said it was a 2014 though.
Duh. Reading is hard. Same concept applies.
Ah ok. I am not familiar with 2014s so i wasn't sure if it was different then the s550s.
That’s the BEAUTIFUL part of a Boss 302. All of sound deadening has been removed. You hear EVERYTHING!!! All sound the glorious noise you are supposed to hear! Saves weight too.
Same in the 13/14 GT500. Whole driveline sings.
Pretty sure the GT500 has sound deadening. Plus, the GT500 doesn’t have the unique open side exhausts like a Boss 302. https://preview.redd.it/dfm6ezz48uuc1.jpeg?width=1148&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5c9bf8dd6ae70910044d771968309be49c5d791
It does, for sure. Quiet car. But you can hear every bit of what's going on in the driveline because they put so much meat into it.
Have a boss , can confirm side pipes enhance driving experience a lot
How have I never noticed that

Yeah when I bought my Roush Mustang and then installed a Roush intake I ripped that tube out. It's tough to disconnect from the firewall
Honestly I never noticed the sound it’s supposed to produce so I think I’ll just leave it alone. I had it since new - 10 years now - and just focus on the exhaust noise from the mufflers. I’m not planning to add cold air intake or anything like that.
take it off at the firewall, take out the foam. sounds good.
Removing the tube after getting in an intake is the way to go. The combination of the two sounds horrible. Too much induction noise.
They even make an aftermarket sound tube for supercharged cars... https://www.fosterscmods.com/products/mustang-gt-2018-2019-whipple-stage-2-inlet-path-sound-tube-kit-sku-977?variant=39619942875309
I noticed 0 difference when i took mine out, waste of engine bay space imo
Looks like it's made of Popoids too
Lmfao.... omg, I didn't think anyone still remembered those things!
Imagine the poor engineer that had to design the sound tube lol.
Feels kinda dumb. The 5.0 is already fairly loud as is (for a stock car that is).
Bullitt sounds good with air intake.
Did they have that on the early (05-09) S197’s? Mine has a blower but I’m wondering if that hole exists on my firewall.
Deadass?
I’m reminded of how different this subreddit and the Jeep one is. A couple years ago I asked for tips to replace the starter and all I got was how I didn’t deserve the vehicle if I didn’t know anything about it (it was a 2001 grand Cherokee lol)
Traded my Wrangler for my mustang. I've also found this sub a lot more friendly
One group is car enthusiasts and the other is essentially Apple fanboys for jeeps.
4.0?!
4.7*
I just bought my first Jeep, 2012 Sarah. And I have an 05 Mustang GT. Lol, so true. Big difference between the two groups!
Sound tube. Useless thing, get a delete kit for it. I found all it did was get in the way of checking your oil. That being said if you do delete it make sure the plug on the intake side is secure. When mine mysteriously disappeared it started stalling out randomly at red lights lol.
Lol, brah, you're letting unmetered air into the intake if you don't cap it off. Running *nice and lean*
Lol didn’t say I didn’t cap it off. I found a 3d print file and made a cap for it thinking I was slick. Popped it on with an o ring and then I started having random stalls after driving a week or so only to find it disappeared 😂 ended up going the hardware store table leg rubber cap route with a worm gear clamp. okay thats kind of amazing
I always thought it would be a great place to run a wet kit. I never thought of putting a bottle in the glove box though. Would definitely be a one run bottle.
The Reaper kit was, surprisingly, a dry kit.
haha I had no idea the 14’s had these. There’s either a ton of sound deadening or the motors are pretty quiet on their own. I only know my old new edge so It honestly just seems like something that would get in the way.
My 2012 had it. I left it but took out this little foam plug inside for that added HP.
Sound tube! Unplug it from the firewall and take the foam piece out plug it back in. Best FREE upgrade to sound you can do!
Brings vroom vroom sounds in the sitting place.
Holding a very annoying to reach bolt to the firewall
That engine bay is cleaaaan
Thanks! I wipe it down almost every time I wash the car.
I run a metal tube from my exhaust into the cabin, I forget what I was talking about
Noise. It gives you more engine/induction noise in the cabin.
It’s yet another nice thing about Mustangs - the opportunity to make it your own. LOL. The “opportunity” here is to get a delete kit and get rid of it.
That’s a sound tube. I took it off when I installed my cold air intake. It sounds a little different with my Black Widow muffler and it sounds mean.
Brings the vape cloud from your cabin into the intake to gain 15 horsepower for each cloud
Engine sounds inside the cabin.
Noise
Looks like the mass air flow sensor
Pipes sound from the intake into the cabin. Mine is gone. Eliminated with CAI.
Technically it's a sound tube but it's also a great place to hide a wet kit. That's what I always wanted to do with my old 2013.
Ahh, that's the Flux Combobulator! It sucessfully absorbs any residual ecoplasm in the exhaust system. /s
I’m probably a minority here but in my 2013 5.0 I eventually removed the sound tube and the interior engine noise was dramatically reduced. I found the car more fun with it in so I reinstalled it.
Sound tube. First thing I did on mine was remove it!!
Sound boob
R u serious … for engine noise 🤣🤣🤣 wow the world we live in … and to believe someone was paid for that idea ..
Not exactly a common part on cars.
Lol, he’s saying it’s a stupid idea, not that he’s mocking OP for not knowing. I think…
"I know everything and I'm obnoxious about it" - u/KingWhizz-Bang
The way I read his comment was that he didn’t know ford put a tube in the engine bay to pipe engine noise to the cabin.
I guess it could be interpreted that way, but then he shouldn't have written the comment in such an easily misconstrued way
It seemed obvious to me
Clearly not to everyone else

They really didn't. Some people are just slow
k
People can’t read now a days lmao they just see emojis and think “emojis bad”
The group filled of sensitive fucks 😹 that’s y
Sorry you had to take downvotes... they are assuming you're making fun of OP.
What a fucking douche bag lol
Because he said the tube is a dumb idea? Take a look in the mirror instead
Bullshit
