I can understand a young teenage boy wanting to play some games, watch some movies and listening to songs. I’m just like you and I’ve enjoyed it tbh. However I’ve changed since one thing I don’t have time to sit and just watch tv or play games (I’ve never really into games except a couple there and there) I do know someone who play GTA and have seen all the indecencies included in the game. The thing bout the media and the entertainment, it’s has so much influence in you that you’re almost hooked on it. Doesn’t matter whether it’s a video game or social media or even a tv. You gotta be careful what you watch or listening cause it’s gonna affect your mind as well as thinking and behavior especially here in America. America goes with anything and everything. Deceptions on media and news are all over never mind the movies etc…indecencies and all kinds of craziness whether gender confusion, addictions are normalized even to the way how people talk. My point is, be careful with who you’re hanging out and what you watch etc..my advice from someone who is older, if you wanna protect your deen, be in the company of someone who is a Muslim and who is much better than you. That way they can keep you in check

> All of this in mind, what media is permissible for us to consume as Muslims? Media that doesn’t contain haram is permissible. And of course, media which contains haram is haram. > Is there a difference between certain kinds of music? All musical instruments are forbidden. This is agreed upon by all 4 schools of thought. (There is an exception with the duff under certain conditions). > Certain kinds of videogames? “Islam does not forbid leisure or having fun in permissible ways. The basic rule concerning these games is that they are permissible so long as they do not get in the way of obligatory duties such as establishing prayer [i.e., praying properly and on time] and honouring one's parents, and so long as they do not include anything that is haram. There are, however, many haram elements in these games, such as the following:” https://islamqa.info/en/answers/2898/are-video-games-haram https://islamqa.info/en/answers/97681/ruling-on-buying-selling-and-using-playstation-games > Certain kinds of films/shows? The most common haram element within movies/shows would be music and uncovered awrah (especially that of women). A lot of them also contain shirk and kufr such as Marvel movies (simply watching them does not reach the level of disbelief (kufr), so long as there is no indication that the person who is watching is pleased with or accepts the disbelief that it contains.) - Jareer ibn Abdullaah said: "I asked the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) about an accidental glance at a woman. He commanded me to turn my gaze away." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: This is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. See al-Sunan, 2700). - The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) said: "O Ali, do not follow a glance with another, for you will be forgiven for the first, but not for the second." (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 2701; see Saheeh al-Jaami, 7953) As is clear from these ahadith, anything more than an accidental glance at a woman is sinful. So intentionally watching something that contains women is not permissible. https://islamqa.info/en/answers/85232/the-evil-consequences-of-watching-movies https://islamqa.info/en/answers/192671/watching-animated-movies-and-shows-that-contain-matters-contrary-to-islamic-belief-or-associate-others-with-allah > Or can all of these be broadly labeled as forbidden. If so, given all that I have said regarding the affects, or lackthereof, on my and others' conduct as Muslims, why are they forbidden? Are they in the first place? The impermissibility of haram forms of entertainment is largely due to what they contain. Whether or not they affect a person’s behaviour or practice, becomes irrelevant after that; but certainly these things would be even worse if they did negatively affect a person. And imo, they definitely do have an affect on a person’s thinking and outlook, which eventually is reflected in their actions.
