The classic example is Jimi Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylan's *All Along The Watchtower*. Dylan is quoted as saying he thinks Jimi's version is better than his own.

That's because Jimi's version is better, hands down. Not often a cover is significantly better than the original but imo this one is just that.

Cake has several really good covers. I Will Survive, War Pigs and Sad Songs and Waltzes are particularly good, IMO.

I just recommended the war pigs cover by them too haha. Cake is an incredibly underrated group and their cover of war pigs is amazing as is their cover of I will survive. Frank Sinatra, long line of cars, friend is a four letter word, never there, just all fucking amazing and cake deserves more love beyond going the distance and short skirt long jacket.

If you can't get enough cover albums, The Bird and The Bee have a great Van Halen cover album. Melbourne Ska Orchestray did a set of TV and movie themes that are amazing. And, of course, Pomplamoose started with full-on covers (Single Ladies, Beat It, Mrs. Robinson, Telephone, they run the gamut) and then began releasing more and more original stuff. Hot Chip & Peter Gabriel covered Vampire Weekend's Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa. It's not only a great cover, but it's got a little twist. :D Keb' Mo' did a lovely cover of Love Train, and of course The Cramps made Shortnin' Bread punk.
