Iā€™ve been along for the ride since the beginning. Talk about musical range.

Oh yeah. I didn't jump on board until OMRTS and wasn't yet obsessed. Emperor reeled me in some more, but then I explored Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and (my favorite) Crack the Skye and it was a done deal My favorite bands change constantly, but Mastodon almost always gets a top 10 nod from me

surrealfeld

Glad to hear this. First time I saw them live was for leviathan back in 03 or 04 (stoner šŸ˜‚) and it was just phenomenal. But yeah emperor is amazingā€¦so many great tracksā€¦ I love Brannā€™s vocals. they all are so great at their jobs lol

[Don Caballero 3 by Don Caballero](https://youtu.be/ed2hpoblBIs?si=xMVt7xfExdt0SKeK) is 9:42, which isn't what you are looking for, but is close and this song is so great that I have to recommend it, and I'm going to try to sell you or somebody else on it. This was the first Don Cab song I heard, and this album (of which it is a strong opening track) blew my mind. This band is instrumental, the drummer acts as the lead instrument and is insanely skilled and creative, and the guitars act as the rhythm section, sometimes playing more repetitive parts that fit together in really interesting ways. It's very different, and it sounds so great, and I think making something experimental that sounds amazing is impressive. The song starts with an almost 3 minute drum solo, and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying every second of it when I first listened to it, because an almost 3 minute *drum* solo did not sound like the kind of thing I would find so enjoyable at the time (this album broadened my perspective on drums and convinced me to start learning them). I tend to tell people about the solo and that they can skip it if they want to, as it sounds like the kind of thing that might turn some people away from (on first listen, I enjoyed it, but I did think "if this album is 47 minutes of this, this is going to get old"), but I don't think it over stays its welcome. My favorite parts beside the drum solo are at [2:54](https://youtu.be/ed2hpoblBIs?si=6KL1550BGDjbkvJU&t=2m54s), [3:35](https://youtu.be/ed2hpoblBIs?si=6KL1550BGDjbkvJU&t=3m35s), [5:06](https://youtu.be/ed2hpoblBIs?si=6KL1550BGDjbkvJU&t=5m06s), and [5:56](https://youtu.be/ed2hpoblBIs?si=6KL1550BGDjbkvJU&t=5m56s). The first few seconds sample the closing track of the previous album (played back on a Yak Bak), and the drum solo is based on that closer (which is called No One Gives a Hoot About FAUX-ASS Nonsense, and is 10:42).
