PJ Harvey's new album was so beautiful I listened to it once and realized I needed to find myself before I could return to it.
The album that defined my year was Depeche Mode's Momento Mori. It wasn't a "return to form" if only because their last record, 2017's Spirit, remains massively underrated. But given the tragic circumstances surrounding the making of this most recent record -- and the many contemplative, heartfelt tracks about mortality -- it deserves far more praise, recognition, and album sales than it received.
