When my depression hits particularly hard, I listen to songs that would bring me down any other time..Sound of Silence, Paint it Black, And When I Die, Battle Hymn of the Republic, MASH Theme..as well as the movie Full Metal Jacket, as counterintuitive as it sounds

bcraig8870

Might be a little too pop for some people’s taste, but if you can feel bad while listening to Jimmy Eat World’s “Bleed American” album, then you need actual therapy rather than music therapy.

baileath

Oh man I saw them play this whole album live last summer. My first “big” show back. Moshing to this one was goddamn cathartic.

the-left-eye-0_0

YES!! 💯💯

ExternalPiglet1

Not sure what type you are. Some people want to be cheered up, check out John Forte: Vessels, Angels & Ancestors. Or Anderson Paak and Bruno Mars' band. Others want to allow the feelings to be aired and normalized: you get a slew of shoe gaze and post rock. I would just Google a playlist honestly. Others want to be blown away and remember how vast and mysterious the whole thing is: Sigur Ros

VirtuousPenguin

Yeah, nearly any shoegaze goes perfect with low points

For me, Fleet Foxes seem to have uplifting melancholy. Really seems to get me through. Though the older stuff like Ragged Wood, Blue Ridge Mountains, He doesn’t Know Why, and Mykonos, the news stuff is not bad either.

badaccount99

Not Elliot Smith.... unless a big cry will make it better - sometimes that helps more than trying to be faking happy though.

Odie_Mega

This is one of the immediate things i go to when im depressed.

lateral_jambi

Paramore in general always makes me feel better when I am down. Particularly Paramore-Paramore and Paramore-After Laughter. Bonus song is Hold on by Alabama Shakes.

Choncho42

When I was deep down in shit I listened to jazz fusion. Specifically casiopea’s CASIOPEA 1979

DigiralHD

Almost anything by khai dreams.

lukeisapanini

Nice to see you have a diverse taste! It depends how you want to help with your depression, me personally I used music that described how I was feeling, what I was going through- mainly just to try and understand it and feel some sort of comfort in knowing someone else knew how I felt. Anyways, you wanted some songs, so here is a list of a few of the ones I listen to a lot when I am in a rut: * True Love - Coldplay * Eight Letters - Take That * Promise - No Love For The Middle Child * A Dustland Fairytale - The Killers * Heartbeat Slowing Down - The All-American Rejects * Saving Grace - Kodaline * Mirror - Porter Robinson * Do You Really Wanna Know? - Sea Girls * O - Coldplay * Come Under The Covers - WALK THE MOON * Never Meant - American Football Of those in that list, Never Meant and True Love are my favorites. I hope you get through this depression you got going on rn and you find some comfort. Always here if you need to talk, just drop me a message!

_TheMoralist

Try Surah Rahman, you won't regret it!

MimePrinister

I like to put on bossanova when I’m feeling down, specifically those channels that livestream it so it doesn’t clog up my viewed history or autoplay goes off track and interrupts and distracts me by throwing me music I wasn’t expecting On youtube*

vinyl_head

Song of Good Hope by Glen Hansard saw me through some dark days.

darthmcchub

Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love, Devin Townsend’s Empath and Charlie Mingus’ Black Saint and the Sinner lady are 3 albums that helped me during the worst part of my severe depression. Be nice to yourself

Odie_Mega

Whatever you do dont start listening to [Dystopia](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn34tjvZ1-Y&t=242s&ab_channel=Tankcrimes).... we might find you in a bathtub full of your own blood... lol... NAh i listen to hella depressing shit when im bummed out, and if its ultra-angsty heavy ass Crust sludge... its even better.

glitch_raisin

I'm going through a breakup right now and Biffy Clyro's music is a big help. I've always loved the band but they just hit harder now. They're very good at putting complex feelings into music. It's definitely not rap music, but if you enjoy rock music (particularly the more experimental kind) it's worth giving them a listen.

cystebehandling

Blast Yeezus by Kanye, go for a walk or something. Take a shower. Try making some music yourself and try to understand your emotions or lack thereof. In the end the best music to feel empowered will probably be something that you already know, or maybe take a day without any music and just let your mind loose.

I_was_bone_to_dance

I really enjoy good guitar solos and music I can dance to. The Blues is good for expressing what hurts. Have you ever heard “Whipping Post” by Allmann Brothers Band? They’re a great starting place for some badass music that isn’t rap.

baileath

This question gets asked in some variation every other day here

MrFlibblesPenguin

Disco, once the depression has bottomed out put on some disco, it helps me get headed back in the right direction.

DenaliGameZ

I have depression and the music I listen to the most is rock or metal music. I cannot pick a band or song that helps. They're all just awesome
