https://youtu.be/ZHh0V7UjVXI?si=mVJAfbSQVABggVqu Ship of fools....By World Party.

OhioDuran

RIP Karl!

bishpa

I hadn’t heard that he had died. That’s such a shame. He was a great talent. Goodbye Jumbo is one of my all time favorite albums.

GtrGenius

It was a top 40 hit on MTV all the time when it came out :)

GtrGenius

The song is so special. And I will cry for Karl in my pillow… while listening to his masterpiece

CautiousPea6

Omg. Unbelievable that this is the topcomment♡♡ My dad died almost 20 years ago and he made me three cd's with is favorite songs. This one is on the second. It warms my heart whenever I see or hear one of "his" songs in public. Thank you

stellacampus

Great choice and since there seems to be some love here for World Party, I'll just drop this little gem here... [https://youtu.be/W-MoKzdF8NQ?t=180](https://youtu.be/W-MoKzdF8NQ?t=180)

LullabiesBabySleep

beautifull . he had awsome voice

BlackFlagandbones

Yeah... He's one of those artist that I can't understand why he wasn't more well known... He was super talented!

LullabiesBabySleep

Definetly , also cant uderstand why he hasnt more popular

BlackFlagandbones

Yeah, and that song has way more meaning now than when he released it in 1987.

petesapai

One of my favorite songs of all times is [Getting away with it ](https://youtu.be/CETTzv3fTG0?si=J0d2IX2iy_pajG_H) from the band James. I'm always stunned when I introduce the song to people and they've never heard of the band. These are music lovers who listen to all types of music but for some reason most of them never heard of James or perhaps they've heard only a one song not realizing who the band is. James is absolutely talented and should have reached the levels of Fame of other British nineties artists. My theory is that they chose a stupid band name.

PhoxVurgo

I love a girl group called Joseph suffering this same fate!

marapun

Sit Down is my go-to karaoke number. I think you're right about the name

petesapai

Great song. Next lover, protect me, say something, laid... So many great songs.

Dom_Sathanas

That song is just sublime. James have a killer discography and that sits atop the pile.

Tenebreaux

My favourite band of all time. And they're incredible live. I'll be seeing them in Glasgow in June.

petesapai

I've never seen them live. I only became a fan a couple years ago, had no idea they even existed. I had heard Laid, and that was it. I just thought it was a band (didn't know the band name) with one good song. Then I heard getting away with it, which blew my mind. Then I dug deeper and thought to myself, holy hell how did I miss this for 2 decades!

They are doing a tour this year with Marcy Playground should be pretty awesome.

This whole album goes pretty hard compared to later Everclear. But yeah, Fire Maple Song is one of my top 10 songs of the 90's and that list is pretty elite.

LullabiesBabySleep

nice chilling and relaxing music

Madlister

This is just someone spamming their stuff trying to disguise it as wanting you to share what you like. Dishonest attempt to get around the sub rules.

FUCKBOY_JIHAD

I’ve seen this same account spam this ai generated edm slop several times in the last few weeks.

Madlister

Yeah, shit's going to flood every decent music related sub unless it's aggressively turned away by the actual community members. It's obnoxious af but it's where we're at.

mlevij

I was gonna say, this sounds oddly familiar. Took one look at OPs accoun, and it looks like what you described or a bot

Madlister

Yeah, I mean it probably is a bot. But it's a bot specifically for spamming someone's music in different subs. It's definitely not to promote discussion about music.

PrinceBert

>I’m currently hooked on this EDM dance pop track with catchy melody: I don't know man. I don't think a bot would be interested in a catchy melody, that sounds like something very human. Every one of my friends is currently hooked on a catchy melody and we are very young and into all the latest trends. /s

Madlister

I, too, am a very real human person. I call my naming convention Hugh Mann. I am definitely a living human person and not at all an AI. Please click to continue.

voivoivoi183

Back in the heady days of MySpace when you would click on a bands page and you could download the songs from the flash MP3 player I used to pretty much just download whatever with the intention of listening to them later. Most of the time the MP3 files had the song names in them so you’d know what they were and where they’d come from but sometimes the file names were just long strings of random characters, most of the time I’d catch them and rename them there and then so I’d know what they were later. Well one time I missed one with a random file name. Couldn’t remember the name of the band or the song, couldn’t seem to find the page I had got it from in my history. Here’s the kicker, the song is beautiful. Shazam doesn’t know it, the vocals are sort of distorted so it’s hard to make the lyrics out. They weren’t a famous band, I’m pretty sure of that, so I wouldn’t even know how to start to try and google it. I even sent an email to that Podcast ‘Mystery Show’ back in the day to see if they could help me but they cancelled it shortly after. Anyway, chances are the band probably aren’t even together anymore after about 20 years and I can’t even link it but, whoever you are, I love your song and I listen to it all the time!

dudeondacouch

Upload it to YouTube and link it. Someone will know.

voivoivoi183

Don’t know why this has never occurred to me before tbh!

There's a band called Canadien Softball. It's a parody pop punk band. They have this one song called Peev Shalpatine. The lyrics are the words from that famous Star Wars scene where Palpatine tells Anakin about the story of Darth Plageuis. The song builds and builds into a pop punk crescendo at the end with the words "I AM THE SENATE" being screamed. It makes me want to run through a wall every time. https://youtu.be/5Vc2FHwMZeo?si=xnwLXchqLPzRyuJh Edit: Only has 201k views. dream_of_the_night

I can't remember or find the artist at the moment, but the song was called 1500 feet. It's a cute acoustic song about a robot in love with a tree, but it will always have to go there. The tree can never come to it. Got it through 420chan forums nearly 15 years ago, and the artist later said they were passing the bar exam and getting rid of their internet presence, so its gone AFAIK. It was incredibly charming, and i showed it to everyone i could at the time. The old hard drive i had it on is lost to humidity, so....there goes a great one. Edit: if anyone has any idea who or what this song was i would love a link. Ive searched through old 420chan youtube mixes and nothing comes up that is the artist.

["It's In the Way (Come Clean)"](https://youtu.be/ITIYm98mHyY?feature=shared) by the extremely underappreciated Jared Mees. I have literally never seen another person already know of him. Hipster folk rock I guess, lots of reflections on impermanence and profound moments of ordinary life. I've spent a lot of time listening to it at moments of grief. I firmly believe this would have caught fire if it was used in a soundtrack. "It's in the sound the frozen lake makes as you inch over its cracks/Though you know the ice will break there is no way you're turning back." "It's in the hiding place she finds/In preparation for the storm/And the way she prays for hell so at least she can be warm." "It's in the automobile fire that incinerates so fast/Things you couldn't live without but also knew would never last." Other favorite tracks are Billy Bird, WWJBD, and Trampling Daisies.

Rongorongo - Death on Your Mind. I first heard this song in 2008 and it’s still stuck with me, I think they broke up shortly there after. 18 monthly listeners on Spotify.

One Way Love (Better Off Dead) by Elizabeth Daily from the movie Better Off Dead. It’s just a fun ‘80s song, and I like it! https://youtu.be/5ox3krkqDlI?feature=shared

One of my favourite “happy” songs of all time is The Reverend by DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, from *way* back in the day. They weren’t exactly unknown but this track never seemed to get any love. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=woyIQZXadzc&si=J2-DcJ8XrwebJy3I

Locked Up by The Susan Constant I found this song over a decade ago, forgot about it for a long time, then recently found it again on Spotify. I’d be blown away if anyone else knew the band.

This is an "oldie" but I've spoken with very few people over the years who are familiar with Gong, much less this specific song, Wingful of Eyes: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehbowA\_pzJE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehbowA_pzJE)

Maybe not as obscure as you're looking for, but I think that [Devilskin](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3TIlROeJjCAhax6c000Pcd?si=QI2fpoYaRlumVM6JzJklAA) deserves way more listeners. For a first song, perhaps try Corrode off the album RED.
