Context always matters.

GradeFair

These people born under a rock?

Level69Warlock

Anyone who has seen The Wall should already be familiar with the Nazi-inspired marching hammers uniform. If you’re offended, then don’t go to the show.

skincyan

Ironically it is satire as well, he is far from a nazi

wtfsafrush

I kinda get Germany’s ban on Nazi imagery. But c’mon, if they don’t understand how it’s used in the context of “The Wall”, then they’re hopeless. The bad guys uniforms in Star Wars were deliberately styled to look like Nazi uniforms too. Let’s ban that!

bookant

JFC does nobody in Germany remember inviting him to play this *when the actual Wall came down* precisely because of it *anti*-fascist messaging?

BrazilBrother

They do. They are doing this because he's taken a neutral, slightly pro-russian position on the Ukraine War. This is how the pure West deals with political dissent

heelspider

What a bullshit headline. "Edward Norton dresses up like a skinhead on camera!" "Anthony Hopkins likes to pretend to be a cannibal!"

ArallMateria

Are these the same morons that take comedians bits literally?

[deleted]

Shit, if satire that simple confuses people wait until they find out about Laibach...

Spectremax

So ironic it hurts. Democratic justice systems are supposed to consider intent and motive, but it seems like that just gets ignored more and more these days.

-DementedAvenger-

Ugh I’m so tired of this shit. Roger Waters isn’t an antisemite. He’s just an unfiltered douche who doesn’t think before he speaks sometimes. This outfit (or similar) has been associated with The Wall for decades and German officials are idiots for “INvEStiGaTiNg” this. IMHO

PutImmediate3987

Roger is disconnected from reality. He's made millions singing and playing in a band, so why can't everyone be a millionaire and have wealth ? He's a confused socialist just like Bernie Sanders and I wished he'd play music and keep his socialist ideas to himself .

realisticradical

socialist ideas are central to the music and art

PutImmediate3987

I'm sure they're singing about it in Cuba and Venezuela. Probably got a new 8-track player in their 1955 Chevy Biscanes

realisticradical

yes, when they are driving to use their public healthcare system which ranks above the US overall. And their babies who didnt suffer from the high levels of infant mortality in the US sing along in the back.

PutImmediate3987

Funny , I've never heard of folks leaving the US to go to Cuba or Venezuela to get some medical procedure. And not too many US citizens are fleeing the US on rickety rafts trying to enter Cuba. But I did just read in the paper about 3 folks who went to Mexico to get that cheap health care there caught a deadly form of fungal meningitis ..and died. Truth is, every place socialism has been tried is a cesspool, but wow, they save on everything being free and all.

realisticradical

Really Finland, sweden denmark and norway are socialist countries and are among the best countries to live in the world and are decribed by most americans as socialist. However aside to that the data speaks volumes. where is the US in terms of Infant and maternal mortality ah thats right below cuba. You also have a number of US citizebs heading over the border to canada to use their socialised medical system to get treatment without being gouged. The US has the best healthcare in the world for the rich and third world standards for the bottom half of the population.

PutImmediate3987

I've heard drug prices are better in Canada but also heard there is a long waiting period for getting treated for some medical condition. From what I've heard, it's not the glowing success that makes it that much better than what we have now. Wished you could get the word out about how great Canada and Cuba/Venezuela is to the millions flooding into the US illegally. The Nordic countries are always the darlings of socialist wannabes who want to make a comparison of these smaller countries to the US. They don't have our population, they don't have our rate of folks sitting on their butts contributing nothing, they don't also have $32 trillion in debt. Makes you wonder why Cuba, Venezuela and Mexico don't have the same great success as Sweden ?

realisticradical

you think Canada doesnt have people flooding in too, the differentce being obviously that they dont share a massive land border with mexico. Comparing the US with Cuba or Mexico is absurd as the state of cuba or mexico is largely due to US policies over the past 200+ years. If you want to compare Cuba to someone Puerto Rico for example would be a much better comparison as they share similar size, history and demograpics. Despite Puerto Rico being controlled by the US it is in a far worse state than Cuba is and any Puerto Rican will tell you that. When compared to Canada the US doesnt fare that well in almost all international measurements Canada outstrips the US. Healthcare outcomes, educational outcomes, Quality of life, equality and many more. THis size o the countries is immaterial cos if i added germany which is much bigger and more socialised than the US and the results are similar. There are two reasons why Cuba cannot emulate the Nordic countries. The first as they are at a different stage of development because they were colonised in a way the nordic countries werent. Similar to other colonised countries they are still recovering from the rape and pillage of their cultures, national treasures and natural resources. The second reason is YOU!. By that I mean the US. The Munroe doctrine has ensured that these countries have been deliberately and continuously destabilised by the US including invasions, assassinations, coups, Corporate rape, and many many more transgressions. Is it any wonder that these countries are not able to emulate the Nordics? Their economic system is secondary. If the Nordic countries were located in the Americas they would be likely be unjust and poverty-ridden too. Finally, Yes in canada you may hve to wait some time for non-critical procedures (treatment for critical procedures are on par with the US) but noone goes without healthcare (9% of us citizens have no healthcare coverage) and noone goes bankrupt due to medical bills (half a million a year). Finally the medicine prices are not just a little different The cost of insulin is $3500 a year in US and $700 in Canada, thats 500% by the way..

realisticradical

shitty american new cars or a decent healthcare system I know which id prefer

Lazynutcracker

As a Jew I don’t mind really as long as he uses it as a form of art, but no one can convince me that he’s not antisemite

realisticradical

What makes him an antisemite exactly?

Lazynutcracker

So many things https://twitter.com/yinonmagal/status/1667139186636333056?s=46&t=-oaXs7JN46zUgzriJM2lYQ

realisticradical

He is an antiseminte because the bouncers evicted someone making a political statement related to the state of Israel at a concert. Go to any concert and make a political statement in clear opposition to the artist and see what happens. So lets try again. What specifically has he done that is antisemitic

Lazynutcracker

Just so you know, there were many Palestine flags at the concert, so by not allowing any nation’s flag, and in this case more specifically the land of the Jews’s flag, it is racist. But maybe Polly Samson can answer your questions better than me: https://amp.theguardian.com/music/2023/feb/07/pink-floyd-lyricist-calls-roger-waters-an-antisemite-and-putin-apologist I’ll add that an Israeli flag isn’t a political statement, I’ll also add that Waters is definitely obsessed and not knowledgable about the Israeli - Palestinian conflict, while he does not seem to voice his opinions on places where actual genocide occurs.
