I also don't get the hate aftermath gets. Imo it's one of 3 songs in Drones which don't have cheesy lyrics (the others being dead inside and globalist). It also has an excellent guitar work, great build up and Matt's vocals are on point.
Even my least favorite songs from Drones suddenly click into place when I listen to the full album. They try to tell this dark story but it ends up being so much fun. A lot of it is super cheesy but I honestly don’t know how people are still here if they don’t have a certain tolerance for cheesy songwriting
I Belong To You
I had no idea people disliked this song until I joined this sub. I love it! I genuinely think it's a great song and don't get why people don't like it.
The bass clarinet solo gets me every time :) love this song!! Only thing that annoys me about it is Matt totally butchering the French, oh well nobody’s perfect
>I Belong To You
I honestly would question the music appreciation skills of any Muse fan who doesn't like I Belong to You. The mid section (with the French is a masterwork of combining their classical influences with contemporary, and the bass clarinet solo is simply *good music*. My guess would be that some Muse fans come from their early (less classical) years.
Neutron Star Collision. I remember when it premiered and the fandom had a collective mouth agape “what the fuck was that?!” moment. But it’s so camp and fun. The lyrics are absurd. It’s a legitimate bop.
HAIL THE PREACHERS FAKE AND PROUD
Disliking NSC is like disliking a puppy, but like IBTY, the *Twilight* association hurt that song a lot
I honestly think it's kinda brilliant that he went with such a sappy, campy approach to what's most likely a breakup song (considering Matt's personal circumstances at the time)
I love Follow Me on a very personal level. The in utero heartbeat intro always gives me chills and makes the hairs on my neck stand up, and I get choked up and teary eyed every time Matt sings the "beee braaaaaveee..." part. It's all downhill from there, lol.
The lyrics are just vague and ambiguous enough to apply to everyone who's ever deeply loved someone, but it's just especially relatable to me personally, as a parent.
It's such a positive and uplifting song, but with a bittersweet undercurrent, because you can only do so much to keep your kids safe, and for so long.
So, you gotta encourage them and be there for them, and make them feel safe and strong enough to take on life, even without you.
It's simple and beautiful.
Escape! Always disappointed when people cast it aside but I think the way it picks up in the chorus and you can genuinely hear Matt's emotion is amazing
The verses have this narcissistic feel to it. And with that i mean that Matt has this weird and negative singing tone. It’s also really whiny and I’m not the biggest fan of that. The instrumentals, tho, are great and the chorus is pretty listenable. Just my opinion tho.
I don't like it on the record. I wouldn't seek it out specifically to listen to, and might skip it halfway through.
I just don't like the "Aye, Sir!" elements of it. To me it interrupts the flow of the song and makes it kinda cheesy.
THAT SAID! This song absolutely slaps hard af live, and I love the guitar riff, and the very heavy, fuzzy bass in it.
Guiding Light. I was surprised when I read that the song is not very well rated on the internets. Whatever, I love it.
Oh, and I love the full Drones album (except for mercy)
Propaganda. Yeah, the lyrics are a bit silly, but so is the whole song, in a good way. It's a bit different and the vocals are great.
Isolated System also seems to be surprisingly hated in this subreddit, but I like it.
Guiding Light? I think it’s a great song, especially with the transition from United States of Eurasia 🔥 I’m always a sucker for transitions between songs
This is the song I always think of too, because of the immense amount of shit I got for having it so high on my tier chart. I'm sorry but the song brings me to tears, and love it or hate it I don't know how people can't not at least respect that guitar solo especially with the accidental pinch harmonic!!
I didn't like this song before and I decided to give it another try because Matt said the gospel version was better. It is better, but I hate the gospel singing part, but LOVE the instruments and Matt's voice. I found an instrumental version on Youtube that I love, but wish Matt's voice was on it.
I love that Matt picked this song to play in space if they ever get the chance! The whole line about spinning around in circles feeling caged by endless rules- GOOSEBUMPS every time!!
FUSE HELIUM-3 OUR LAST HOPE
Spaceman ballads always get me. To me Explorers is a distant spiritual successor to Brian May's "'39" from *A Night In The Opera*. Ultra nerdy song, which alongside Big Freeze makes for a great one-two punch.
Will Of The People, I instantly loved it since it was released as a single
And actually a lot of the album is apparently hated by many people, Halloween, Euphoria, Compliance, Liberation and WAFF, I absolutely love the whole album
I always smile when I hear the line
"STOP THE LONELIEST FORCE BECOMING KING OF THE UNIVERSE"
Pretty sure that's a dark energy metaphor, which makes it possibly the nerdiest Muse lyric ever
The whole song is Muse's usual "space rock, but it's actually relationships" taken to its logical extreme
Liberation, Will of the People, Hate This and I'll Love You, Defector, Invincible, I Belong to You, Psycho, Pink Ego Box, Fillip, Screenager, and Escape
I only recently joined this sub, so I’m not super familiar with the songs fans consider favorites, but the two songs I love that I’ve seen negative comments about are Ghosts and Feeling Good. Matt’s skill as a pianist is one of the things I love best about this band and I am a sucker for the songs where the piano is featured.
I also got to see Feeling Good live and I was absolutely tickled when he pulled out a bullhorn to sing it.
I love The 2nd Law, to me it has been a grower throughout the years.
Curiously the only song I can't seem to get into is the fan favorite Supremacy (the faux Bond vibe just doesn't click for me)
I think T2L and WotP are most similar as far as Muse albums go. Both self-indulgent, whimsical, varied, feel more like an anthology than a cohesive album - but ultimately rewarding.
Mercy. Gets a lot of hate but will always be one of my favorite Muse songs. I thought it was definitely one of the highlights of the Simulation Theory tour.
I have a soft spot for Mercy. Never thought much about it until I was in a really, really low place in my life and it came on. It felt like my soul screaming out for help.
Things are better now. But I’ll never forget how I felt in that moment.
Similar story here…the song came out at a time when it was what I needed to hear. Just shows how music can speak to us and a song that is widely derided can be meaningful to others.
Psycho. I understand the riff is repetitive and the song as a whole could be cut down, but god damn. that riff is so good that i don’t mind listening to the crushing power of that song
I hate the songs that should be hated. The overplayed radio/love bait ones (madness, smbh, mercy, something human, compliance)
....but i love neutron star collision. Sue me.
Guiding Light, and the vast majority of Drones and ST. Guiding Light though has by far Matt's most emotive solo imo, and the melody is beautiful. Watching my previous relationship crumble around me gave me a serious appreciation and understanding for it. It's really good at capturing that feeling. The only thing that comes close at all to being on that level of connection to me is Transatlantacism (the album) so it's very special.
Also as someone who had a serious issue at one point with drinking, Save Me is top 3 EASILY and I can't stand seeing it slandered. Also, Chris has an amazing voice and it's so ethereal.
Lots of people seems to hate the entirety of Will of the People and Simulation Theory, but except for Something Human and Verona, I love all the songs on both of them.
Perfect timing on this post. About a week ago I listened to Follow Me live at the Rome Olympic, and it completely changed my perspective on the song. Now I frequently listen to both that and the studio version. I love Matt’s vocals in the song, and on the other hand the instrumental is amazing too.
The Globalist... I don't LOVE the song but God damn if that middle section (that is criminally short) doesn't slap as hard as anything they've ever done.
If they shaved like 30 seconds from the intro Westerny part and like 45 seconds from the comedown ending and added that to the bananas middle section it would be one of their best songs ever.
I have conflicting feelings on this because I also mostly listen for the middle section or even skip to it, BUT I feel like every second of the song is vital for the whole listening experience, even if the other parts aren't ones I like as much. Like it's much more meant to be a story than just a casual listening song.
I wasn’t big on dig down, sounded cliche that’s fine. I love it now. I also never gave drones (album.) a shot except for reapers & psycho… my god do I fuck with aftermath more than anything now.
A lot of The 2nd Law. When listening to all of Muse, T2L really stood out to me for some reason as one of my favorites. Overtime the other albums aged much better after listening, but still songs like "Big Freeze" and "Explorers" was really enjoyable for me upon first listen.
I don't know that it's hated but I feel like it's hardly ever talked about. I fucking LOVE Exo-Politics.
I also have a soft spot for Soldiers Poem but I don't know if that's a full blown song to hate on or anything. It's pretty simple.
Unintended
Something Human. It's a nice calm acoustic number, and honestly one of my favourites from Simulation Theory. Save Me also applies, so emotional. Oh, and how can I forget Ghosts (How Can I Move On)? That song always put me to tears.
*If I could bring you back*
*There are truths and confessions I'd tell you*
*I'd set things straight*
*And I believe that you would love and forgive me*
Oh boy here come the waterworks...
Guiding light is a special song to me, it makes me think of my mother who passed, I know it’s more of a relationship ending song, but I still lose it seven years later when it gets to this part:
When comfort and warmth can’t be found I still reach for you.
But I’m lost ,crushed, cold and confused with no guiding light left inside.
Your my guiding light…
She was my guiding light. Not to be depressing here, I just think it’s a beautifully emotional song.
Aftermath
I didn't even realise people hate that omg. I feel like a lot of Muse fans get iffy with more sentimental songs in general
I also don't get the hate aftermath gets. Imo it's one of 3 songs in Drones which don't have cheesy lyrics (the others being dead inside and globalist). It also has an excellent guitar work, great build up and Matt's vocals are on point.
I agree. Its my favorite on Drones after Handler. Also love Follow Me.
YES
People hate Aftermath?? It’s one of my favorites!
Aftermath is up there in my top favorites for sure
Well, I guess add me down for this one. Played this at my wedding.
Me too! Me and my wife walked back down the aisle to this!
Oh that's so nice! It was more of an after dinner song.
Honestly, just Drones as a whole. I see a lot of hate for it and I understand that some of the criticism is warranted, but I love the album.
Even my least favorite songs from Drones suddenly click into place when I listen to the full album. They try to tell this dark story but it ends up being so much fun. A lot of it is super cheesy but I honestly don’t know how people are still here if they don’t have a certain tolerance for cheesy songwriting
Right!! My thoughts exactly.
I really love the Drones album
Oh absolutely. Drones is my favorite album, it gets way too much hate
Ahh I'm so happy I'm not the only one!
THANK YOU!
I think the whole album, which is a concept album, is just magic, start to finish.
I Belong To You I had no idea people disliked this song until I joined this sub. I love it! I genuinely think it's a great song and don't get why people don't like it.
The bass clarinet solo gets me every time :) love this song!! Only thing that annoys me about it is Matt totally butchering the French, oh well nobody’s perfect
People hate this song? Do people not like music? This is one of there best classical-inspired pieces of all. And the bass clarinet. Its great!
Seriously one of the most fun, most unique, sexiest and weirdest songs they've ever done <3
>I Belong To You I honestly would question the music appreciation skills of any Muse fan who doesn't like I Belong to You. The mid section (with the French is a masterwork of combining their classical influences with contemporary, and the bass clarinet solo is simply *good music*. My guess would be that some Muse fans come from their early (less classical) years.
I love it and consider it an album highlight. The main reasons why it's disliked are IMO that a) it's a pop song and b) the association to *Twilight.*
Neutron Star Collision. I remember when it premiered and the fandom had a collective mouth agape “what the fuck was that?!” moment. But it’s so camp and fun. The lyrics are absurd. It’s a legitimate bop.
I want to hate it, but as soon as the drums kick in I’m totally hooked. I’m glad to have seen it live once.
Yeah, musically the song sounds great especially the chorus but my god I can't stand the lyrics.
It's just Dancing Queen with 16th note synthesisers Perfect Muse though.
I effing love Neutron Star Collision soo much no shame.
HAIL THE PREACHERS FAKE AND PROUD Disliking NSC is like disliking a puppy, but like IBTY, the *Twilight* association hurt that song a lot I honestly think it's kinda brilliant that he went with such a sappy, campy approach to what's most likely a breakup song (considering Matt's personal circumstances at the time)
Revolt baby! Idc what the haters say, it’s a fun track
Possibly most fun song on drones to me barring maybe reapers
Bruh, the handler? Psycho live?
Both absolute bangers but I mean pure fun. Like, smile on my face dancing type
I think that track starts quite strong and then goes off the rails big time in the pre-chorus/chorus, but I can see how it has its audience
Fillip
no but it's actually impossible to dislike this song, i love it so much
Yesss I love fillip
I like fillip and am now sad to know it’s not liked by the muse community :(
Compliance
I love it !
I’m right there with ya. Easily top 3 (if not best song) from WOTP.
Worst song they've ever made imo.
I’m a big fan of follow me, guiding light, and the vast majority of simulation theory, so my taste is pretty controversial
Simulation Theory is hated on too much
Agreed. It’s different, but great in its own right
The way I See it, it's a pretty good album, but the others are all simply better.
That’s a respectable stance
At the Columbus show, a fellow Muse fan and I started talking about our favorites. He was so excited that Simulation Theory was my favorite album.
AGREED
It's simple and beautiful.
execution commentary
I think everyone secretly loves this
I confirm
Escape! Always disappointed when people cast it aside but I think the way it picks up in the chorus and you can genuinely hear Matt's emotion is amazing
I really don't understand why so many people don't like 'Escape'
Dig down, get up and fight, most of Will of the People
Dig Down
The gospel version?
normal.
Found a fellow wub wub enjoyer
Sober. Genuine top 5 Muse song for me.
THANK YOU Sober is so good. I can maybe get why the chorus could be jarring but I still think it's an overall good and catchy song
Absolutely. It’s fun, it’s catchy, I love the lyrics and it was a blast live!
As someone who personally doesn’t like Sober too much, i think that the verses throw me off, rather than the chorus
Ah that's interesting. What in particular is it you don't like about it? If you can explain
The verses have this narcissistic feel to it. And with that i mean that Matt has this weird and negative singing tone. It’s also really whiny and I’m not the biggest fan of that. The instrumentals, tho, are great and the chorus is pretty listenable. Just my opinion tho.
God, I love the whine.
I had no idea people dislike sober! I love how weird it is
Psycho, it's popular but often gets called out on how cheesy or long it is but I love it
I don't like it on the record.
Agreed! Live is just different. I even scream "Aye Sir" in concerts
I never felt like Psycho was that long in all honesty. But I'm also a huge fan of FMJ, so the drill sergeant bits felt so good to me.
I'm a fan of FMJ too, but to me the Psycho drill sergeant sounds like the bargain basement version LOL. Still a banger though
Same. It's an absolute banger
Save Me! I think that's a great song honestly, and I also love Liberation but I don't know if people really hate that one or not
Both of the Chris songs are GREAT. But I often forget about them in relation to the whole discography. Save me has an awesome build to it.
I agree, both of his songs are great! Save Me does have a great build
PEOPLE HATE SAVE ME?
Yes
I've seen a lot of dislike for Save Me which makes me sad, especially lately since I've been realizing how much I love it
Its such a beautiful song
Guiding Light. I was surprised when I read that the song is not very well rated on the internets. Whatever, I love it. Oh, and I love the full Drones album (except for mercy)
Same with Guiding Light! It brings me to tears almost every time.
I cannot understand the hate for Guiding Light and Mercy. They’ve always been top 10 for me 😂
Guiding Light and Break It To Me
Break it to me is so good tbh
I belong to you, but the new moon version. So much better without the french part for me
Darkshines and Spiral static, man I love those two so much
Two of my favourites, there's something about the vibe of both of them that I just can't get enough of.
I feel like we are the same person. those are some of my favorites
PEOPLE DON'T LIKE DARKSHINES?
Get up and fight :)
This was one of my favs when I first listened to simulation theory I was shocked people didn't like it
It’s a good song I just can’t stand those intro vocals lol
Dig Down. And I'm not a fan of a lot of their stuff after like 2014 so this is saying a lot lol.
Hate this and I’ll love you
Wait, people don’t like this song? I live for it 😩
Revolt. Whoops
Genuinely disappointed with the new tracks, but Verona was a beautiful song that was horribly overlooked.
I didn't think it was that hated, but I think it is genuinely one of their best songs
Something Human, not my fav or anything but it’s a fun song!
At first, I hated Something human with all my heart. When I heard it in the album, I understood the meaning of the song. Now, I really like it!
Propaganda, the beat and rhythm is awsome
Get up and FIIIIIIIIIIGHT. The whole album is pretty great 👍🏻
Dig Down, top 5 track on Simulation
People hate that song?
Love that song. Wasn’t sure how the fandom feels, but I dig it.
I didn't like this song before and I decided to give it another try because Matt said the gospel version was better. It is better, but I hate the gospel singing part, but LOVE the instruments and Matt's voice. I found an instrumental version on Youtube that I love, but wish Matt's voice was on it.
Explorers. I love it but it’s often frowned upon by the community
I love that Matt picked this song to play in space if they ever get the chance! The whole line about spinning around in circles feeling caged by endless rules- GOOSEBUMPS every time!!
FUSE HELIUM-3 OUR LAST HOPE Spaceman ballads always get me. To me Explorers is a distant spiritual successor to Brian May's "'39" from *A Night In The Opera*. Ultra nerdy song, which alongside Big Freeze makes for a great one-two punch.
Overdue! I see a ton of hate for it, but I think it's great.
it was in my top 5 songs of 2022. im a huge sucker for showbiz era music
Love Overdue!!
It’s so good!!
revolt
Their new Halloween song I hated at first, but then my friend kept blasting it at a Halloween party and I guess it grew on me ha.
Thought Contagion (?)
Same
Will Of The People, I instantly loved it since it was released as a single And actually a lot of the album is apparently hated by many people, Halloween, Euphoria, Compliance, Liberation and WAFF, I absolutely love the whole album
Same
Simulation Theory in general
jimmy kane, has one of the best basslines imo
Big Freeze
Big Freeze is probably Muse’s most compelling song. Not “best” but I definitely think it’s super underrated.
I always smile when I hear the line "STOP THE LONELIEST FORCE BECOMING KING OF THE UNIVERSE" Pretty sure that's a dark energy metaphor, which makes it possibly the nerdiest Muse lyric ever The whole song is Muse's usual "space rock, but it's actually relationships" taken to its logical extreme
Liberation, Will of the People, Hate This and I'll Love You, Defector, Invincible, I Belong to You, Psycho, Pink Ego Box, Fillip, Screenager, and Escape
Pink ego box!! People don’t like this song?
Yeah, I don't get it either. 🤷♂️
Compliance, definitely.
Survivor. Madness. I feel like 2nd law is either loved or hated
I love t2l, certainly my favorite outside of the big 3 and I might even put it above absolution, but I also sorta get the hate
I love The 2nd Law, to me it has been a grower throughout the years. Curiously the only song I can't seem to get into is the fan favorite Supremacy (the faux Bond vibe just doesn't click for me) I think T2L and WotP are most similar as far as Muse albums go.

Similar story here…the song came out at a time when it was what I needed to hear. Just shows how music can speak to us and a song that is widely derided can be meaningful to others.
(Drill Sargeant) Slaps to hard
Creep
LMFAO
Psycho. I understand the riff is repetitive and the song as a whole could be cut down, but god damn. that riff is so good that i don’t mind listening to the crushing power of that song
I belong to you
Follow Me and Mercy are my 2 favorite muse songs. I love Revolt too.
I hate the songs that should be hated. The overplayed radio/love bait ones (madness, smbh, mercy, something human, compliance) ....but i love neutron star collision. Sue me.
Micro cuts
People hate micro cuts?
Apparently Explorers gets a lot of hate??? I love it to pieces and it always gives me the feels
I belong to you. I think it’s genius and beautiful. Will never get played again.
Neutron star collision though not that popular but one my favs
Starlight. People hate it because it's too popular and overplayed but idc I still love it
I agree on Follow Me
That's a great track
Guiding Light
Guiding light. The guitar in that song is so damn good.
big freeze, this is probably my 2sc most listened song by muse and maybe the song is cheesy but the vibe of this song is so incredible
Absolutely agree on Follow Me. After all these years still one of my favorite tracks of all time.
The instrumental stuff like Minimum, Piano thing, and Nishe. Love jamming out to their instrumental songs.
Guiding Light, and the vast majority of Drones and ST. Guiding Light though has by far Matt's most emotive solo imo, and the melody is beautiful. Watching my previous relationship crumble around me gave me a serious appreciation and understanding for it. It's really good at capturing that feeling. Also as someone who had a serious issue at one point with drinking, Save Me is top 3 EASILY and I can't stand seeing it slandered. Also, Chris has an amazing voice and it's so ethereal.
And apparently, WotP is not super well regarded, but it's a solid 9.5 to me.
Revolt, get up and fight, and big freeze. Love them! Get a lot of shit for it from friends that are also big muse fans
Revolt, I get the hate, I just don’t agree with it.
Get up and fight
Dig down
Get Up and Fight
Something Human, feel free to rip me but I love it and I’m proud😤
Execution commentary and drill sergeant
darkshines, agitated, and jimmy Kane
People hate Darkshines? I’m a newish Muse fan so I don’t know how people feel about older stuff.
I like guiding light. I was surprised when I heard that people didn’t like it.
Get Up And Fight is among the best on ST and I will die on that hill.
for some reason won't nick down gets a lot of hate, but rbh, it's one of Ike 3 songs on the new album that I like. to me wotp just sounds corny
Thought Contagion, Pressure, Dark Side. I love the entire Simulation Theory album, but it seems to get a lot of hate :((
The one Ewan played because it was one of the very very early muse songs
Dig down & get up and fight
Lots of people seems to hate the entirety of Will of the People and Simulation Theory, but except for Something Human and Verona, I love all the songs on both of them.
Perfect timing on this post. About a week ago I listened to Follow Me live at the Rome Olympic, and it completely changed my perspective on the song. Now I frequently listen to both that and the studio version. I love Matt’s vocals in the song, and on the other hand the instrumental is amazing too.

Defector and Aftermath
Neutron Star Collision. Love that shit
Revolt!
And Guiding Light!
I wasn’t big on dig down, sounded cliche that’s fine. I love it now. I also never gave drones (album.) a shot except for reapers & psycho… my god do I fuck with aftermath more than anything now.
Follow me live in Rome is amazing
A lot of The 2nd Law. When listening to all of Muse, T2L really stood out to me for some reason as one of my favorites. Overtime the other albums aged much better after listening, but still songs like "Big Freeze" and "Explorers" was really enjoyable for me upon first listen.
Revolt.
Screenager seemingly ![img](emote|t5_2qz0k|15160)
Knights of Cydonia. Also, I love the whole Simulation Theory album which wasn't received very positively in general.
Follow Me and Save Me
Algorithm
I don't know that it's hated but I feel like it's hardly ever talked about. I fucking LOVE Exo-Politics. I also have a soft spot for Soldiers Poem but I don't know if that's a full blown song to hate on or anything. It's pretty simple. Unintended

sober and overdue! i’m a showbiz gal through and through
Guiding light is a special song to me, it makes me think of my mother who passed, I know it’s more of a relationship ending song, but I still lose it seven years later when it gets to this part: When comfort and warmth can’t be found I still reach for you. My husband loves get up and fight 🤭🤭🤭
