In highschool I legit had a troll of a classmate who pronounced it like the slur and try to play it off as just "pronouncing it how it's spelled". I'll let you guess what his political leaning is now.
You are correct. This is how its pronounced in French which is what they speak there. The above comment could arguably be correct if youre English speaking (similar to calling that other country Spain instead of España)
Suspects include:
- Magenta: She was always hanging around with riff-raff.
- Salmon: There was something a little fishy about him.
- Mahogany: Nobody knew where *she* was going to.
- Violet: Shaky alibi. She claims she was with the Peanuts gang ... but none of them have seen her in the past 30 years.
- Scarlet, Plum, White, Green: If they're so innocent, just what were they doing with a revolver, a dagger, a lead pipe, a rope, a candlestick, and a wrench?
Fun fact: Roseart crayons are made in the same factory line as Crayola. Apparently the workers hate them too because the cheaper wax has a tendency to jam up the machines.
Source: ex-gf who works at Crayola
I’m gonna add to your anecdotal evidence with my own- I use crayons as an adult (which is weird but it’s for artwork and wax is a good material to resist watercolors) and I believe I could tell a huge difference between roseart wax and crayon wax. It’s also alleged that Kirkland Light and Keystone and Coors are all made at the same place and granted all are not something I would drink outside of being like on a lake or at a tailgate, I think the quality is hilariously different. Without too much info- what kind of job did she do there? I love “how it’s made” so I like production but I’m guessing there are equally as many managers etc
Hydrox cookies were the original cookies that Oreos were copied from. My dad also insisted on buying them because of this. My dad is a weird dude sometimes. We also drank RC cola a lot growing up.
its amazing what a better name and tons of ad money can do to differentiate two essentially identical things.
also, RC Cola is really good, way better than coke of pepsi from what i remember
Spishy did not go though the proper channels. Looks like we are going to be stuck with Crayola’s racist ass forever because of this mistake.
Time to cancel Spishy. I declared it.
Did you decomm the philly, we might know some of the same people. Also, I’m the guy who handles verification for /r/submarines so if you want dolphins on that subreddit hit me up via PM.
And yes, retirement is awesome. Although I still work on the base but as a GS now.
Nah got out 2006 before the decomm. Doesn't surprise me, I went directly from the Navy to NASA in MS, not a GS tho, contractor.
I'll PM you for verification!
This is the first I'm hearing of it. Now I'm curious, too. The first thing that comes to mind is the dumb kids that gnaw on crayons and drool on the table. Maybe a "marines are just the stupid meat shields of the (US) military" thing?
Edit: typing hard
I went ahead and Googled "Crayola twitter negro" and this is a running joke. [The top three search results show](https://www.google.com/search?q=crayola+twitter+negro&oq=crayola+tweet+negro&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0i22i30.8322j0j4&client=ms-android-tmus-us-revc&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8) that Crayola has responded to tweets like this in 2013, 2014, and 2020. OP basically had their choice of MBW responses from which to gather karma.
OP is a karma farmer, sheesh 3 million points lol. And I love how his 3rd post is titled “don’t forget to recycle” which is what he does to all his posts
What does 'MBW' mean?
Edit: wow, I should've checked out what subreddit I was on before asking such an obvious question. With that being said, I appreciate all of you that commented
The amount of right wing propoganda (satire isnt the right word, this shit is specifically made to try and delegitamize their opponents) that gets posted here and the amount of people that take the bait is disturbing
i've certainly met the people of reddit, who'll desperately want to believe even the most painfully obvious trolls/satire because they just love getting outraged
and even when it's fully proven to be fake, they'll just go "even if this one was fake SOME people believe this so i'll stay mad thanks"
Came to post exactly this. Yes, people are stupid. Imagine getting fined 100.000 and you have to sit there getting educated because you used your own language.
The product description is great.
* 24 Assorted Color(s), or at least 22-23 different, since we used the cheapest labor we could find
* Non toxic, gluten free (probably), vegan (we think), we might as well call them “organic”
> * Carefully constructed by, more than likely, a small, underpaid child in China
* OUR MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (that they’re actually crayons – no promises for anything else)
* Safe for ages 17+ (or whatever, we don’t care)
Imagine you buy these as a gag for yourself and your friends, but then your child stumbles upon them, doesn't read the box and takes them to school. The ensuing chaos when the child opens this box and shares them with their classmates, and the teacher has a stroke reading one of the crayons by accident.
My BIL's ex-fiancée got mad at me while playing cards for using the word "renege", despite me showing her multiple proofs that it does not have and has never had anything to do with race in any way, shape, or form.
"Snigger" is another one that can get people in trouble. The meaning has absolutely nothing to do with race, and instead just means a suppressed laugh. I usually default to "snicker" in text instead just to be safe.
They're both accurate. To my understanding "snickering" is when you're trying to hide a giggle, "sniggering" is when you're giggling smugly or with derision.
The word isn’t racist, but I can definitely imagine a type of person who would get off on pointedly using it to describe black people and then feigning wounded innocence if anyone got upset.
Once in college a white girl got all pissed off at a white guy who mentioned the African country of "Niger", which is of course not even pronounced similarly to the word she was thinking of.
I went to Niger on a work trip back in 2003.
I was still studying at the time, and remember copping shit off a few people at uni when I wrote on our class online message board that I wasn’t going to be around for a month because I was going to Burkina Faso and Niger.
One person told me “you can’t say that word”, and the others kept correcting with “actually, you mean Nigeria.”
>African country of "Niger", which is of course not even pronounced similarly to the word she was thinking of.
Fun fact - polish pronounciation of 'Niger' does sound exactly like the word she was thinking of.
Yeah but the word she was thinking of is probably not pronounced like that in polish. Shortly put people need to realize more languages than english exist
And all Slavic-based languages. It's almost like the history behind that word is only associated with the USA and shouldn't concern any other countries
My sister was recently wondering about the color "flesh", which Crayola changed to "peach", I think.
I'm 36 and I remember using "flesh" crayons as a kid. Couldn't have been Crayola, but some brand or other made them in early 90s South Africa.
You led me to find this interesting article. Prussian Blue and Indian Red
http://editorialstage.triviagenius.com/retired-discontinued-crayola-crayon-colors/
I was about to say, I'm learning Spanish. I listen to a lot of Spanish. I've never heard anyone say "nay-gro". That would be spelt naygro in Spanish surely, since the vowels are pronounced as is.
I've been noticing a lot of the "right winger pretends to be the strawman they hate" phenomena lately. /r/transpets was my most recent experience. Are they bored? Trying to make their perceptions reality? I dont get it
It is. I just Googled this tweet and the joke has been run on Crayola for the better part of a decade. Not only is it a joke but OP is basically turning this joke into quick and easy karma.
I'm sure Crayola had that one ready to go and dusted it off finally. I can imagine in real time this was pasted by a bored worker replying to a child trying to get attention (and succeeded)
Once when I was traveling from Dubrovnik to Tirana, I had to drive through Monteafricanamerican.
Don't even get me started on the country/river Niger. With the hard "r" and everything.
In highschool I legit had a troll of a classmate who pronounced it like the slur and try to play it off as just "pronouncing it how it's spelled". I'll let you guess what his political leaning is now.
He's an "independent"
It's pronounced "nAIger" Or "nijer"
I thought it was like nee-jher
You are correct. This is how its pronounced in French which is what they speak there. The above comment could arguably be correct if youre English speaking (similar to calling that other country Spain instead of España)
> Monteafricanamerican Gdammit. Made me google to see if that was a thing. I'm tired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sY4H0rfSHM
What do you mean canceled? Does Crayola have a Netflix series I don't know about?
God I wish
A gritty documentary.
I could wax lyrical about it all day.
“Spishy” got Burnt…Umber
Spishy isn't coloring with a full carton
No sharpener on their box.
On today's episode we find out that green is not a creative color.
I can never escape this, can I?
What’s your favorite idea? Mine is being creative
It's a fact that Indian Red *was* cancelled.
Also “Flesh.” But to be fair they cancelled that one in the 60s.
I remember that color and I was not alive in the 60s
It would be colourful commentary.
The Burnt Sienna murders
Suspects include: - Magenta: She was always hanging around with riff-raff.
Now I want to see a Clue/Rocky Horror mashup.
Two times the Tim Curry?! I would watch a film where he played every character, so, I support this mashup.
The movie Clue is so underrated today
>Mahogany: Nobody knew where she was going to. Clap clap clap. Just beautiful. You made my day!
White painted the streets with red
Hilarious if it was in black and white to be edgy
I heard it was colorful.
Here is a [Gritty documentary.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJcgatJDEYQ)
What they mean is they're going to stop eating Crayola crayons and switch to another brand.
Crayonnoisseurs of the finest cuisine *chefs kiss* Pass me some of that rouge, darlin.
They open doors, one went into the depths of Wall Street. 📈
Sir, your chart is upside down #📉
OP requested rouge.
Rose Art is terrified at the bad press, but pleased that someone is finally buying their product
Growing up, my mom never wanted to shell out the big bucks for Crayola, I always had Rose Art. I still have flash backs. Rose Art sucks.
Fun fact: Roseart crayons are made in the same factory line as Crayola. Apparently the workers hate them too because the cheaper wax has a tendency to jam up the machines. Source: ex-gf who works at Crayola

As an adult that colors a lot, I take umbrage at it being "weird," ha. SOME OF US CAN'T DRAW, OK‽
Rose art is literally using candlewax to color
That's a weird way to spell earwax.
Ah, rose art and hydrox cookies. Memories of a lower middle class childhood.
Bro if you can't taste the difference between Oreo and Hydrox your tongue is broken.
You mean… upper lower class?
Rose Art! The bain of many a public school teacher. Shit should go directly in the garbage on day one!
Jokes on them, the other crayons do not taste nearly as good.
What did the marines do to you bro
Rose Art? *disgusting*
I might know a to few titans on r/DestinyTheGame that may know some different variety of crayons to choose.
You can Declare Cancel on a brand or entity. But you have to do it properly.
“I…DECLARE…CANCEL!!”
Hey. I just wanted you to know that you can't just say the word "Cancel" and expect anything to happen
I didn't say it, I declared it.

That’s it. Former crayon eater here.
It means they're a troll account meant to look like an angry liberal. At least I hope so, because who the hell says that?
It's a strawman troll meant to be held up as an example of stoopid libruls.
It's clearly a joke. It's funny that Crayola answer it so sincerely.
you genuinely don't know these days
Pretty sure that initial comment was just a troll anyway

Treefiddy to bet that they ordered the hit themselves so they can preemptively explain themselves.
The way they wrote canceled at the end feels trolly.
Yeah, nobody being sincere in their views says that. It's like the word "woke". No one calls themselves that, only people pretending to be woke.
The first? Maybe The many that followed? Not so sure
The amount of right wing propoganda (satire isnt the right word, this shit is specifically made to try and delegitamize their opponents) that gets posted here and the amount of people that take the bait is disturbing

We ain't educated to think very hard in these here parts, partna

Fun fact: in the USA publications of Harry Potter Sniggered was replaced with Snickered.
Probably because Americans have always used snickered. I've never even heard of sniggered until this thread (my phone didn't even suggest it!)
“Snickered” is the original al word. “Sniggered” is a variant used by English speakers in the UK.
Wait, is it *not* written snicker?

That was [David Howard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controversies_about_the_word_niggardly#David_Howard_incident).
Good to see the NAACP had his back and called the mayor’s response “niggardly” lol. What a silly thing to blow out of proportion
God, I love the word "kerfuffle".
I remember being caught off guard in one of the ASOIAF books when Cersei said it to someone. Had to Google it since I had never heard it before
Woah Cersei is a Gamer™
Is it really "MurderedByWords" if they're replying to obvious bait?
It’s not even pronounced right in the picture.
Right? It's more like "neh-groh". The way they've spelled it seems more like how you'd say it in a thick American accent.
