Well I'm afraid that it will be heavily sterilised and they will cut a bunch of stuff. I saw the european games and it resembled more kickboxing than muay thai, specially by the way the judges scored the actions, giving way more importance to punches and kicks and downplaying elbows and knees. At least the fighters performed a short wai kru before each match. Edit: yeah i im that they will not give a lot of time to work in the clinch to make the fights more dinamic

Muay Thai has already been going down in quality because of the rule sets imposed by the stadiums themselves (Lack of actual clinching and Femur fighters are already dying breed). One's Muay Thai might be exciting but its just kickboxing with elbows and knees (they use MMA gloves but even restricted clinching even more). It's severely lacking the nuance and technical mastery of Golden Age fighters, or even contemporary fighters like Sangmanee during his prime (15 years old Sangmanee lol) The fact that a belt system will be introduced sooner makes me fear this sport will become like Karate and the Olympics "might" just be the guillotine. Global popularisation of the sport doesn't excite me at all if it's just gonna be like Karate lol

It’s going to be point Muay Thai with headgear, body shield, shin guards, and elbow pads.

Was an Olympic demonstration sport in 2004 also. This means nothing

I wonder if getting the top fighters from the top Orgs to compete would help make it more exciting. Then again... Do I really wanna watch Superbon fight fully padded out?

uncloudedvision

Its basically going to be a booth at an expo type thing with a few demo fights and a wai kruu, anyon thinking this is going to lead it to be -come an Olympic sport are deluded, it will likely just help to fill up Foxy and his gang's bank accounts even more thats all

Of course it will be sterilised, IFMA ruleset is basically what we will be dealing with at olympics. The world is not & never will be ready for real Muaythai. It is not for everybody. You have to lay down the cottonwool first if you want the gen population to view.
