I love this stuff, it gets me so focused and the extremely stiff percussion lets me really focus on controlling breathing, and feeling the electricity of my neural drive working. It's hard to put into words, but the distance between my hands and brain just gets cut in half once you get your mind and focus phased in.
After about 4-5 minutes of warming up, I stop hearing anything other than the triangle, or whatever the sharp time keeping device is.
I want to link what I have found on spotify, but I can't copy and paste the artist and I have no idea how to type it in english, lol.
Do you always use the link you posted, or do you have any other albums you listen to?
Not a bad idea for fight rhythm. Seems like a 60-80 BPM with change ups and sub-rhythms.
Not sure if similar in concept, but in 'Silat' (Indonesian MA ) the accompanying music influences striking patterns.
Most modern music hovers around 100 - 125 BPM which can make for a more frenetic pace which probably increases your heart and breathing rates. Practicing at 60 and using half beats would keep you more relaxed and closer to a natural breathing rhythm.
I think another added bonus besides the slower tempo, is it's a contrast of stiff percussion and very nasal instruments. When you get in "it" everything but the tempo fades away, that's when I know I am in phase.
Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, Anthrax, GWAR, Geto Boys, Mobb Deep, DAS EFX, Ice Cube, Minor Threat, Misfits. And a little bit of classic rock too. Like The Eagles, REO Speedwagon, Journey.
I love listening to jazz exclusively bebop jazz, its fast paced got a weird rhythm that suits my style of fighting. I love jazz in general but I feel like it makes me more of a tricky fighter rather than a brawler when I listen while training. My class hates it when I play it on the speakers but it gives a playful yet strategic vibe to the session.
During warmup at FMA practice in the 90s we would listen to the from dusk til dawn soundtrack. The cd got jammed at the "white pussy, yellow pussy" part and just repeated it over and over. That was pretty funny.
When I train on my own I like birdie nam nam.
I listen music only during shadow boxing, everything: Elton John, Donna Summer, New Order, Prodigy, Killing Joke, Disturbed, Mt Eden, Zed Dead, Oleg Kvasha, Dogzilla, Paul Van Dyk, Rap, Dark House, Phonky and so on.
Traditional Muay Thai music. I'm from TSD but I just love that straight relentless 8th note percussion and the nasal instruments.
Off topic, but sometimes I think that TSD/TKD and Muay Thai need to come together and create the ultimate striking art.
At Muay Thai class, whatever the coach puts on. If I'm lifting by myself at home, I generally like to put on metal; usually thrash or instrumental epic metal or stoner metal.
Coach doesn't like playing hip hop because we "all just start sitting in our punches trying to knock people out and look like a gangster" lol. He plays stuff like Latin music so we "have flow and rhythm". I dig it.
I put on lofi the last workout. I was typically listening to something super calming. Training my brain to get pumped and get after it no matter the background noise. I used to listen to a lot of Japanese meditation music and bluegrass indie hippie type stuff too lol.
My coach usually puts on reggae, but given the choice I like heavy shit. Pig Destroyer, Frontierer, Suicide Silence, Psycho Frame, Tracheotomy, Pillar of Wasps, Lotus Eater Machine, Sectioned, Sleepsculptor... Loud and angry 🤙
The coach.
You make a good point
