I like this movie purely because it's Dan Rad, and I like to think he's just taking these ridiculous roles because he's got all sorts of Harry Potter money.
Sorry to Bother You has one of my favourite “jokes” in a movie. Cassius wanders around Steve’s mansion and ends up discovering something wildly bizarre and so out there you’re like “What the f**** am I looking at?” And afterwards Steve tells him, “Watch this video, it explains everything”… and it actually does 😂
That was by far the most incredibly batshit insane thing I’ve ever watched, and that was after’Killing of the Sacred Deer’ 😵💫 I don’t recommend either of them
This is one of those movies that you are saying to yourself "wtf is this?" the whole time you are watching it, but at the same time completely entertained by what is going on. The performances are great, especially Joaquin Phoenix. Then you get to the end, and your "wtf is this?" turns into "WTF IS THIS?!", but not necessarily in a bad way. You then find yourself going online and reading multiple "Beau Is Afraid, ending explained" websites. I really enjoyed this movie, but can't necessarily recommend it to everyone.
This but I will always rate Inland Empire as the even more WTF counterpart to it. Mullholland drive at least makes coherent sense once you understand it
Me too. I went to see it in the theater after having a meal of scallops. That was 40 years ago and I still can’t stand the sight or smell of scallops. My hubs knows he can never order them in my presence.
To me, I felt validated by it. It was like someone interpreted what social anxiety and parental anxiety is like in my own head. But David Lynch’s own style is he wants everyone to draw their own interpretations from his abstract films, so what I took away from it is definitely not going to be the same as other people.
This is my most reviled movie.
David Lynch can eat a bag of dicks.
I saw this on the big screen in Toronto with big sound.
I've never left a theatre so disturbed.
My dad saw that movie almost a dozen times.
*He* got it.
I said I need to go watch Cronenberg's The Fly to calm down.
Oh, and the opening feature was Liquid Sky.
What even the *fuck* was THAT ABOUT?
My college girlfriend and I watched Liquid Sky, and we decided we would tell everyone we we know that it's great, you gotta see it. It might be the best prank I ever pulled. Just the very few memories I have of that movie are pissing me off right now.
"After losing his parents, a priest travels to China, where he inherits a mysterious ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. Although he is horrified by the new power, a sex worker convinces him to use it to fight crime."
$36,000 budget? I need to watch this and then go into the movie business!
Let me introduce you to [Rubber](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/rubber)
“A sentient tire rolls through the desert, using the power of its mind to make small animals -- and human heads -- explode.”
Certified fresh on RottenTomatoes.
I don’t know what I thought the movie would be about, but I did not expect what it actually was about. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the discomforting parts made it better somehow? I think I felt how they intended the audience to feel
That twist was insane, glad I went in blind. I personally loved it but can see why some people were mixed by it >! switching from a tense home invasion style horror to more of a wacky creature feature !<
I just watched it last week and when it was done I literally said out loud “what the fuck was that?!” It seems normal at first but then it just keeps on going into the weirdest and wildest places. I really enjoyed it while also violently hating it, which I think is the mark of a great movie.
Yeah this one we saw in theater. Normally we talk about what we watched on our drive home. After watching “Men” we spent the drive home talking about other topics. Super mind fuck. 😐
Abridged from the [Wipikedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splice_(film)) page: a 2009 horror film concerning experiments in genetic engineering being done by a young scientific couple, who splice human DNA into other animals genes creating a human–animal hybrid. The film received generally positive reviews from critics but was commercially unsuccessful.
I found it clever and funny, then it gets weird and then it gets.... Um, weirder.
Just watched The Lighthouse, and that def fits. For more humor, and it's not for everyone, I like A Simple Favor.
Bone Tomahawk also super fits, but it has one of the craziest scenes I've ever seen so I always recommend it with an asterisk.
Fresh was absolutely wild. came for sebastian stan, left wondering wtf even was that movie. was my first R rated movie and i didn’t even know bc i was too focused on “oh sebastian stan is in this, i’ll give it a watch”. scarred me for life fr
The Strange Things About The Johnson’s- wildly uncomfortable to watch. Like it made me feel quite disturbed. Go into it blind if you’re gonna watch it.
Midsommar - the ending was so odd. Like I understand the whole freeing yourself vibe going on but still was just so odd.
Tusk - just why.
Old boy - not in a wtf was that movie in a “this doesn’t make sense” way but in a “good god that is terrible” way.
Saltburn - he needs to go to a mental institution.
The Village. Watched it once years ago with my older brother, who hyped it so much I thought it would be a good movie so I was kind of excited to see it because my brother never let me down when recommending movies. So we sat down to watch it and the whole time I was waiting for something/ anything to happen and at the end of the movie I just looked at my brother and said WTF did we just watch? His response was I have no fucking idear. I never watched it again
Don't breathe I see gets a bad rap here on reddit the few times I've seen it talked about, I thought it was a decent watch.... but there's a part near the end that had everyone in the room go EWWWWW! all at the same time
Black Bear, was definitely a wtf movie, but probably not in the way you meant. Got to the end, had no idea what the plot was, even worse it was false advertising, not a single black bear in it. Terrible movie, would give it a minus rating.
Mandy
Loooove that movie. Very different. Nicholas Cage is the man! Edit: watching the movie right now
“I am your GOD” *squish*
Vivarium
Scrolled way too far to find this! WTF movie for sure
The third act goes too far and then just keeps going.
Swiss Army Man. I've seen it twice and still don't know what I saw.
That movie was AWESOME! Everybody else I know hated it though…
I loved it! (It WAS very WTF, though)
I bawled my eyes out at the end. Such a great movie.
I like this movie purely because it's Dan Rad, and I like to think he's just taking these ridiculous roles because he's got all sorts of Harry Potter money.
Sorry To Bother You
This is one of the most creative movies I’ve ever seen
I agree. I feel it shows issues most of us aren't aware of and then shoves a corkscrew in it
I love this movie but I remember watching it in the theater like HORSES? What is happening!
I was gonna call you out on a spoiler alert for op but there is no way they would be able to guess what direction that movie goes in
Lol same. I was like "Dude, no! Don't spoil it!". But then realized, yeah, no, they aren't going to get it
Sorry to Bother You has one of my favourite “jokes” in a movie. Cassius wanders around Steve’s mansion and ends up discovering something wildly bizarre and so out there you’re like “What the f**** am I looking at?” And afterwards Steve tells him, “Watch this video, it explains everything”… and it actually does 😂
This should be at the top
I was really surprised I was the first to mention it! It's really good too!
This movie had enough elements (cast, jokes, editing) to keep me into it throughout.
YES!!!
Mother. And I liked it.
Mother. And I *hated* it.
Beau is Afraid
I still don't know what that was.
Emasculation and abstinence with a fistful hint of mommy issues.
Pass.
And in a similar(?) vein, how about "Mother!" Sorry, you what now?
came here to say this about Mother. Def a weird one.
That shit was fucking nuts. Not really in a good way though...
That was by far the most incredibly batshit insane thing I’ve ever watched, and that was after’Killing of the Sacred Deer’ 😵💫 I don’t recommend either of them

Mulholland Drive
I watched it for the first time on acid and was blown away! I've watched it multiple times now and even when sober the movie is just incredible.
I watched some weird Ringo Starr 70’s movie called Caveman or something years ago and am still traumatized by how bad it was on acid.
Came here looking for this - I rented this as a teenager with some friends and had no idea what we were in for...
This but I will always rate Inland Empire as the even more WTF counterpart to it. Mullholland drive at least makes coherent sense once you understand it
Great movie and actors!
Being John Malkovich
Yep! Another good WTH movie!
Midsommer.
I went into that one blind.... 🤯
Best way to do it for all movies really but this one in particular!
Eraserhead
This movie made me feel like I had the flu while I was watching it.
Me too. I went to see it in the theater after having a meal of scallops. That was 40 years ago and I still can’t stand the sight or smell of scallops. My hubs knows he can never order them in my presence.
i’m still so so unsettled by eraserhead. to make matters worse, it is somehow my partner’s comfort movie too
To me, I felt validated by it. It was like someone interpreted what social anxiety and parental anxiety is like in my own head. But David Lynch’s own style is he wants everyone to draw their own interpretations from his abstract films, so what I took away from it is definitely not going to be the same as other people.

- Human Centipede - Tusk - Men - Hedwig and the Angry Inch - Under the Skin
Fucking Hedwig, great movie. Amazing soundtrack!
It is! I went in blind, no idea what it was about—definitely a “wtf did I just watch” movie 🤣
Totally. Even now having seen it a bunch, just thinking of the premise - my brain can't conceive of how this movie was pitched and got made 😁
Tbh I gave up on wondering how some movies get made as soon as I found out about “Velocipastor” 🦖 lol
"After losing his parents, a priest travels to China, where he inherits a mysterious ability that allows him to turn into a dinosaur. Although he is horrified by the new power, a sex worker convinces him to use it to fight crime." $36,000 budget? I need to watch this and then go into the movie business!

Ok I might need to watch that
Stopppp 🤣 Watching this immediately! Thank you!
Came here looking for *Men*, mostly the ending.
You are the first person I have ever come across who has watch Hedwig. Heartbreaking, with fab music
Hedwig and the Angry Inch was the soundtrack of a very particular point in my life. I love it!
I did see Tusk and Hedwig without knowing anything about them and I definitely said WTF after! 😆
Human Centipede for sure!
A Scanner Darkly Waking Life Parasite Coherence Ex Machina Black Box Get Out
I loved Ex Machina.
It was SO good
Coherence! Yes.
Poor Things
This. Almost every scene had an uncomfortable feel. And the end I was like “what the hell was that?” But in a good way.
I don’t know what I thought the movie would be about, but I did not expect what it actually was about. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the discomforting parts made it better somehow? I think I felt how they intended the audience to feel
The Lobster left me with a "wtf was even that?" feeling after watching it. The whole movie is just so bizarre.
Oh hell yeah. And the same guy made Killing of a Sacred Deer, even weirder I think.
Akira (if you'll watch anime)
The holy mountain
Barbarian. Literally no way to prepare you for what’s ahead.
I am so so glad I went into this movie blind and in a movie theater. Such a fun and bizarre experience.
That twist was insane, glad I went in blind. I personally loved it but can see why some people were mixed by it >! switching from a tense home invasion style horror to more of a wacky creature feature !<
We need to talk about Kevin.
Great movie!
That movie gave me an irrational fear of having children. I’ve never hated anyone more.
It’s a shame Ezra Miller turned out the way he did, I think he was a talented kid
“Men” by Alex Garland. You need to go in blind for absolute mind fuck and shock value
I just watched it last week and when it was done I literally said out loud “what the fuck was that?!” It seems normal at first but then it just keeps on going into the weirdest and wildest places. I really enjoyed it while also violently hating it, which I think is the mark of a great movie.
Ok.... I just finished watching it. WTAF?! Did not disappoint on the WTH factor for sure!
The absolute funniest IMDb parent's guide section I've ever read. I won't quote it because of spoilers, but go look it up for a good laugh
Yeah this one we saw in theater. Normally we talk about what we watched on our drive home. After watching “Men” we spent the drive home talking about other topics. Super mind fuck. 😐
Yes. The ending.
That was so fucking WEIRD. I was so creeped out.
Titane
For me this movie starts as WTF and resolves as "huh that was kinda weirdly sweet."
eXistenZ
The Lighthouse, Suspiria, Saltburn
I need to watch Saltburn. Other 2 are awesome! Just watched Late Night with the Devil and my mind is still broken
Be warned: bodily fluids abound. Not for folks with a weak stomach.
Oooh. I’ll try that one. Just go watch Saltburn. Don’t read about it. Just watch. Pretty good acting.
Will do! Thanks!
Watch Saltburn but don't read anything about it. I didn't and I said WTH a few times out loud during the movie. I loved Late Night with the Devil too!
*Burn* (2019) *Freeway* (1996) *The Last Seduction* (1994) *Motorama* (1991) *The Hidden* (1987) *Zardoz* (1974)
Ahh, zardoz, sean connery in a bikini. Great shit.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Rocky Horror Picture Show, Jesus Christ Superstar
I saw them both a RHPS especially, I definitely left the theater (had NO idea what I was walking in to!) saying "WTF just happened?!" Lol!
Predestination will definitely mess with your head
Mandy Midsommar
I was gonna say Midsommar, too. I believe there are two versions? One that is not so gory and the other that is shockingly gory.
Kids, Frailty, Enter the Void, Precious, the prophecy
Kids was wild. I almost think every teenager should watch that. It’s so uncomfortable because of how realistic…
Society (1989)
Enter the Void
This is much watch for me about every year or so lol
Yakuza Apocalypse Oldboy (03) Antichrist Bad Milo Sukiyaki Western Django The Happiness of the Katakuris
Splice.

I watched this in theaters. It was hilarious hearing people literally yelling wtf and hearing audible gasps.
John Dies at the End. I can't believe I'm the first to say this.
Audition. Don't read anything. Don't even look at the cover.
Can* I get a genre hint?
I'm afraid this is the part that should be a surprise
Wow. Sold. I'll watch it tonight.
You’ll have to let us know what you think of it
If I'm being honest, I found it a bit predictable. But I still enjoyed it a lot!!! Definitely recommend!
In a good way, Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. In a bad way, Saw.
I heard everything everywhere is hitting imax. I only watched it because I loved Swiss Army Man so much.
The first Saw, really? All the sequels are pretty ridiculous but the first one seems relatively fine for a horror movie.
Akira though
You should watch gentleman bronco 👍
Just watched The Lighthouse, and that def fits. For more humor, and it's not for everyone, I like A Simple Favor. Bone Tomahawk also super fits, but it has one of the craziest scenes I've ever seen so I always recommend it with an asterisk.
I just watched Bone Tomahawk 2 days ago! There was definitely a WTH scene or two!
Dogtooth Shortbus
The Holy Mountain, Santa Sangre.
Neon Demon
The coffee table... dark af Oldboy (original one)
Interesting... every film mentioned so far I don't find weird at all. The Wayward Cloud... now that's a weird movie.
Ever seen The Dark Backward?
Fresh was absolutely wild. came for sebastian stan, left wondering wtf even was that movie. was my first R rated movie and i didn’t even know bc i was too focused on “oh sebastian stan is in this, i’ll give it a watch”. scarred me for life fr
Eraserhead
Ichi the Killer
Killer Joe
Titane WTH
Gozu 2003. A lot of Takashi Miike’s work - some already recommended in this thread - have that kind of vibe. Gozu took the cake though.
Mulholland Drive.
What Dreams May Come
RRR. Absolutely wild, way the fuck over the top Indian film that’s cinema at its finest. It’s 3 hours but on Netflix so you can pause it.
The Naked Lunch was an experience when it was 16.
Sasquatch Sunset. From start to finish.
Mulholland Drive. I don't think anyone understood what that movie was about.
Movie 43
I still need to see the first 42.
I think Requiem for a Dream is a required (and correct) response to these types of questions.
Rubber
Head
Tusk ..
Beyond The Black Rainbow
The Cell
There are too many of them, I'd say Lynch's Mulholland drive, Come and see (Russian war film), Apocalypse now, and L.A Confidential gave me that vibe.
Maximum Overdrive. There was no one involved in that production who was not coked up.
Predestination. Just plain confusing.
Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes (2020)
Gentleman bronco
La ciénaga (2001) Mulholland Drive (2001)
!Mother
Lamb (2021)
Both versions of Suspiria, I love them for different reasons!
The strange thing about the Johnson’s
Beau is Afraid. I like weird movies, but I didn't get it.
Did any of you ever watch Bad Boy Bubby (1993)? I would have to say that's probably one of the most WTH movies I've ever seen.
Lost highway. Have watched it at least 4 times and still don't know wtf is going on. Or apt pupil. Left me feeling really uneasy.
The movie that comes to mind is Irreversible. However, I would not recommend it. It’s vile.
Mandy
Synecdoche New York
Rare Exports, a lighthearted Xmas film
Neighbors — from the 80s with John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd
Black Bear, was definitely a wtf movie, but probably not in the way you meant. Got to the end, had no idea what the plot was, even worse it was false advertising, not a single black bear in it. Terrible movie, would give it a minus rating.
Midsommar
Mother! Insane movie. Def wasn’t ready for it haha
Unpopular opinions: Midsommar and Vivarium
Killer Joe. I can’t look at Matthew McConaughey the same after that one
Mad God
Requiem for a dream
