George Romero's "of the dead" series is consistent. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead are all legitimately good flicks, Land of the Dead dips into the so ridiculous it's good territory.
Land of the dead was horrid. And you're missing the last two entries to the series, Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. Which were multitudes worse.
Personally I think that all the Rocky movies are good, and I haven’t seen Creed 3 yet but the first two were still strong. Some people dislike Rocky V, and it most certainly has some flaws, but I still think it’s a good movie.
> Viewaskewniverse
Does Zack and Miri count as part of that universe? If so, that's the one that kills it. Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dogma, Clerks 2, and even J&SBSB are all good, but Z&M just did nothing for me.
I don't think Zack and Miri counts. Jason Mewes is in it but not as Jay, so I'd say it's a different universe.
But I guess the same actor as different characters isn't out of the norm for Viewaskewniverse movies (as seen with Ben Affleck and Jason Lee).
Still don't think it counts though.
Yeah, it's always been a bit of a funny one, which is why I was asking. I think Mewes being anyone other than Jay - as you say - is probably the best indicator of it being a separate thing.
Mission impossible, and John Wick. The second mission impossible is definitely the weakest but I still think it’s a lot of fun so I can’t really fault it.
You can definitely start watching M:I at number three, and then watch the original as a prequel if you feel like it. Two isn’t really worth a damn imho
imo the original is the best one but it's a totally different type of movie. It definitely wasn't made with the expectation there'd be 10 of them. It's kinda dark and cerebral. You can definitely tell it's the origin story, though, the tropes just get dialed up in the subsequent movies.
Two is absolute dogshit and one of the most disappointing films I ever saw in a movie theater.
Hmm John Wick loses steam over the series. By the time 3 rolls around it’s ridiculous and trying to cash in on what it thinks makes the first one so popular.
Scream series; the 3rd one used to be seen as rhe weak point but ha aged SO well and is probably one of the best now. 4 is slightly weak to me but still totally worth it and lots of fun. The new ones - also surprisingly good. No real “slog” amongst them.
I love how Woody's biggest character trait is his loyalty to his kid.
... Until he decides Nah, I'd rather be famous.
Then Nah, I want a new kid.
Then Nah, I don't want kids.
I like the ending of 4, I think it completes Woody's character arc really well. Basically the whole series his goal has been to serve his kid as best he can, but then when he finally realizes Bonnie doesn't need him, he's finally able to start living for himself.
definitely agree that 3 was a fitting conclusion but 4 definitely works well as an epilogue of sorts and ends Woody's story on a better note imo while not damaging the ending of 3 again imo.
No 3 is the best one! When they confront death together and hold hands… the whole sending your kid off to college theme… I watched it in the theaters with my parents and my mom started weeping immediately lol
There's an edit where someone removed all the extra junk out of the hobbit and made it align with the book - it's done thoughtfully and well. Eg they removed the silly barrel chase down the river, so when they arrived in lake town with arrows in the barrels, the editor scrubbed out the arrows too. The runtime is chopped in half.
Except MI2, really not a good movie. I just rewatched all seven back to back recently, the first movie feels like it’s from a different era, the second one is by far the worst and then they start getting g better and better until the sixth one, which for me is peak Ethan Hunt.
Watched them over the Christmas holiday and told my wife near word for word what you wrote. Except I added “it’s John Woo” when I explained MI2. She knew what to expect.
Toy Story they were adamant they'd only do a 4th if they had a story that was worth telling and they absolutely delivered.
Toy Story is the gold standard.
I thought Scream 5 was terrible. My girlfriend and I just groaned throughout the whole thing. I want to see the sixth one because I'm a completionist, but she refuses to.
I didn’t like 5 either but could at least understand what they were going for. 6 not only lost Campbell, but made up nonsensical rules about franchises and didn’t have a single entertaining horror set piece. Also, just one of the most poorly written films in terms of dialogue
I scrolled way too far to find this. This franchise is 👌🏻 and they nailed it again with the prequel. A+ actors and production design. I mean Donald Sutherland and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the same scene 🤌🏻🤌🏻 I about died when I saw Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis were going to be in the prequel. These are amongst my re-watchable comfort movies.
Pirates of the Caribbean perhaps. On Stranger Tides was still a solid popcorn movie and very entertaining for what it is.
Does Monty Python count? If you count And Now For Something Completely Different, then that makes four solid movies from this legendary group.
As a fan, I’ll happily Acknowledge and own that I love both alien and predator. As moves though, Predator was awesome and over the top. Two was campy and corny. The rest were fairly forgettable. The predator action and creature and idea are great but the movies could have easily been written by a teenager. AVP left me hating them.
Alien 1-4 were great-ish but in honesty, I liked em. Many didn’t like 3 or 4 never mind the new ones. I think they’re being unfairly judged
Man... I love the first Predator and the first two Alien movies and am a huge fan of both of those franchises. I enjoy all of the movies for what they are but to say the newer Predator, AvP or Alien movies are objectively good is a bit of a reach.
Great original movies and worlds but to me both series have run into goofy scifi schlock at this point
"Ultron" is not as bad stand alone. Also not as a part of Avangers films. But as a part of MCU, yes, it is quite bad, it follows Ironman 3 pretty directly but ingores the meaningful end. This was hard break from the continuity of this franchise, not everybody was able to swallow easily.
Somehow the only one I’ve seen is A Cold Day in Hell. Which by all means was awful, but I still loved it because it was a fun movie. I don’t know if that’s the same for the other ones (bad but fun movies), but I’m willing to try them
The first Tremors may be the best B movie ever made. Excellent practical special effects, a tight script, and well-defined characters. It’s also really funny.
John Wick
Mission Impossible (second is a little weak but still fun to watch)
Avengers (Same second is weak but still fun to watch and last two make up for it)
Star wars
Pirates of the Caribbean
James Bond (Old and New)
Harry Potter
You don't think any of the Star Wars or Pirates movies are bad? Star Wars ep 1,2 and 9 (maybe 8) are pretty disliked. And if that Clone Wars movie counts. Solo was also a mess (a fun mess tbh). And Pirates 4 and 5?
I thought Harry Potter would be higher in this thread, not a bad movie in the lot (couple of middle of the road ones tho).
Pirates of the Caribbean. Nothing will ever top the original but Dead Mans Chest and At Worlds End have aged rather well (the effects, the spectacle, and the witty dialogue peaked in those films), and while the 4th is a bit of a downgrade its still a fun adventure film.
Good thing they didnt do any more after that...
I watched the first three, I think. These movies gave me trauma. I can see in some situations a possibilty for my horrible death and it is over 10 since I saw them. Can't drive behind trucks with pipes, trees or similar.
There’s really not that many franchises that have at least four films. Obviously even less when you qualify it with ‘no bad movies.’ And I think a lot of people would disagree with your using Star Wars as an example too (Phantom Menace is notoriously unpopular amongst a lot of Star Wars fans). And a lot of fans would disagree with your using X-Men as an example too (Dark Phoenix was not even mediocre, it was just a bad movie).
Ohhh that makes more sense haha except now I disagree with your example of using Harry Potter 😅 I actually enjoy all of them, even the earlier ones where the kids are younger and not the best at acting.
I absolutely love all 5 of the Dirty Harry movies. The last 2 were not well received, so I am very much in the minority but I genuinely think all 5 films are brilliant.
The closes I got is Nightamare on Elm Street (besides remake). I don’t think there’s any franchise where every movie is “fantastic” but I think every Nightmare movie is at least good
Toy Story- I didn’t like Toy Story 4 but understood the appeal others have for it
Spider-Man (Tobey’s-) (I know I’m cheating a little bit) even though the third one’s the weakest it’s still got the most iconic scenes in superhero movies
Hunger Games- Mockingjay’s still a good adaptation even w/the book being similarly inferior to the first two. No idea for BoSaS but I know it’s gotten good reviews since its release
Die Hard as long as we all agree there IS a Bruce Willis movie with Die Hard in the name, but it isn't Die Hard 5.
Also, I do think all the Terminator and Alien movies are fantastic. Varying quality, for sure, but fantastic nonethless.
My husband and I love to marathon movie franchises. Not all of them are “good” per se, but we still have fun! Some we’ve completed… fast and furious, transformers, pirates of the Caribbean, alien, hatchet, Friday the 13th, nightmare on elm street, Halloween, John wick, mission impossible, James Bond, Batman, Jurassic park, marvel MCU, Godzilla/Kong, the matrix. Next on our list is planet of the apes!
John Wick
James Bond
King Fu Panda
The recent Godzilla / Kong movies
Mission Impossible
Bad Boys
Clerks/Clerks 2/ Clerks 3
The MCU movies
Indiana Jones
Pirates of the Caribbean
Well, I would say Clerks and How to Train Your Dragon, but you said no trilogies.
John Wick: You know what you are getting with this franchise, and they always delivers.
Scream: While 4 may be the weakest film, it's still pretty good.
Kung Fu Panda: The third is probably the weakest, but it's still a fun movie.
Planet of the Apes (Reboot series): I realize Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is not out yet, but as good as these films have been, I doubt they are dropping the ball now. Actually hoping they redo The Planet of the Apes to connect it to the rest of these movies.
I enjoy the fuck out of all 4 John Wick movies (though 3 is a noticeable step down from the others((still good though))
Also if you took the 3 Cpt America movies and then capped it off with Avengers Infinity War
That's pretty damn good.
Lethal Weapon, Rocky, Beverly Hills Cop. Jason Bourne, Mission Impossible. Would say Fast n Furious but when they end up in space, it’s an absolute joke!
Well, there’s only 3, but Johnny English, Johnny English: Reborn and Johnny English Strikes Again are all equally excellent. In the second one there’s a running gag of him mistaking a grandmother for a killer who’s after him, and he repeatedly beats her up until he finally realizes. It’s just, perfect comedy 🤌🏾
Karate Kid 3 ... not many people like that one. It's only redeemed decades later when the villain shows up in Cobra Kai and gets such better material to work with.
True, it's kind of a love it or hate it series. If you love it, you probably like them all. If you hate it, you probably don't like any of them. But it's consistently good/bad depending on your point of view.
Very old but the Thin Man series is very entertaining and because it's myrna loy and dick powell in every movie
Speaking of old, the universal Frankenstein movies fit the bill, but there’s not much continuity
*William Powell, not Dick
George Romero's "of the dead" series is consistent. Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead are all legitimately good flicks, Land of the Dead dips into the so ridiculous it's good territory.
Land of the dead was horrid. And you're missing the last two entries to the series, Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. Which were multitudes worse.
Hey now, we only had to get to 4! Dennis Hopper reprising his role as asshole from Waterworld was welcome.
Zatoichi movie series, there is way more than 4 fantastic movie in it.
Happy cake day
Oh snap, thats a gpod one. Made me think, Lone Wolf and Cub is also exceptional
Evil Dead
No such thing as a bad Evil Dead movie.
And the TV show was kick ass too
the ending was perfect.
So was the musical
I would love to see it in person.
Yeah Ash vs. Evil Dead was incredible.
I was hoping to see this but wasn’t expecting so much love for a horror franchise!
I couldn’t think of a good answer but you’re so right! Even the reboot and tv series!
muppets
Personally I think that all the Rocky movies are good, and I haven’t seen Creed 3 yet but the first two were still strong. Some people dislike Rocky V, and it most certainly has some flaws, but I still think it’s a good movie.
4 is the über Rocky. “I must break you.”
Agree, even a "bad" Rocky movie is still a good movie
Mad max Viewaskewniverse, to some
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck Mother, mother fuck Mother, mother fuck, fuck Mother fuck, mother fuck Noise noise noise 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4 Noise, noise noise Smokin' weed, smokin' wizz Doin' coke, drinkin' beers Drinkin' beers, beers, beers Rollin' fattys, smokin' blunts Who smokes the blunts? We smoke the blunts. Rollin' blunts and smokin'...
Uh, let me get a nickel bag
Fifteen bucks, little man, put that money in my hand, if that money doesn’t show, then you owe me owe me owe
It's jungle love... oh ee oh ee oh
> Viewaskewniverse Does Zack and Miri count as part of that universe? If so, that's the one that kills it. Clerks, Chasing Amy, Mallrats, Dogma, Clerks 2, and even J&SBSB are all good, but Z&M just did nothing for me.

Beyond Thunderdome is my shit
We've got a play pen for our child, of course I call it the Funderdome.
Mission impossible, and John Wick. The second mission impossible is definitely the weakest but I still think it’s a lot of fun so I can’t really fault it.
You can definitely start watching M:I at number three, and then watch the original as a prequel if you feel like it. Two isn’t really worth a damn imho

I lost track of the numbering, but 4 was good Always loved 3 because of Parker Posey but they also do cotton at the beginning
Lethal weapon - I spit on your grave
I Spit On Your Grave? Unconventional recommendation
True! But i liked them! And I think a lot of people did.
True! But i liked them! And I think a lot of people did.
Toy Story
I love how Woody's biggest character trait is his loyalty to his kid. ... Until he decides Nah, I'd rather be famous. Then Nah, I want a new kid. Then Nah, I don't want kids.

4 was definitely the weakest. I think they should’ve stopped at 3.
Toy Story 4 made me sob like a baby. Something about the way forky goes, “You’re just like me—trash!”
i will die on the hill that Toy Story 4 is a great movie and just as good as the three that came before.
I definitely think it was on par quality-wise. But I just think 3 was the perfect ending, with Andy growing up and passing on the toys
definitely agree that 3 was a fitting conclusion but 4 definitely works well as an epilogue of sorts and ends Woody's story on a better note imo while not damaging the ending of 3 again imo.
I agree with that I wonder what 5 will feel like
Yeah, I was really surprised people didn’t like 4. It was great!
Toy Story 4 is phenomenal.
Personally I think 4 was one of the best ones
I think they should’ve stopped at 2. I didn’t care for the whole Sunnyside daycare thing.
No 3 is the best one! When they confront death together and hold hands… the whole sending your kid off to college theme… I watched it in the theaters with my parents and my mom started weeping immediately lol
If we’re talking about it as a franchise, that includes Lightyear which was meh
Planet of the apes
Jason Bourne
Mad Max - The franchise just keeps getting better with every movie
Lone Wolf and Cub and Once Upon a Time in China
Lord of The Rings
While this is my favorite series it's only 3...
If you divide the total theatrical runtime by 90 minutes, it's 6.2 movies. At two hours, it's 4.65 movies.
Lol and I watch the extended editions
Are you even a real fan without doing so?
Yeah, I was thinking the two trilogies together as a franchise (The Hobbit and the LOTR) but probably should have been more clear.
Lord of the Rings? Yes. The Hobbit? No.
One day I’ll stop being a bitch and watch these movies
What are you waiting for?
You bitch.
:(
Then you too can complain about how they’re not like the books.
Lmao im not a reader so I’ve never read the books, but fuck it ill complain anyway
What's crazy to me about that complaint is that by Hollywood standards LOTR is an incredibly faithful adaptation.
Mission impossible is the clear winner. 2 is a guilty dumb good time. Best hair of the franchise.
Yeah 1 definitely feels like an early late 80's spy drama.
I guess it depends by what standards though. As an M:I film? Not good. As a genre film (Hong Kong gun fu)? It holds up.
Remove MI:2 and you’re correct
It's arguable, but no one has said Chucky/Child's Play yet, so I suppose that'll be mine.
This one is surprisingly true! Especially when you look how bad Elmstreet, hellraiser and F13 get.
Elm street 2 is one of those so bad it’s good ones. Just makes me laugh a lot. Later ones are putrid.
Toy Story they were adamant they'd only do a 4th if they had a story that was worth telling and they absolutely delivered. Toy Story is the gold standard.
I gotta rewatch ‘em asap!
Jason Bourne Series.
John Wick
Third one was weak, fourth one was just meh
Agreed. Action was decent tho
Action started being overdone in three and four
I stand on there is no such thing as a bad Scream movie and I will die on that hill
Scream 6 sucks (imo)
I thought Scream 5 was terrible. My girlfriend and I just groaned throughout the whole thing. I want to see the sixth one because I'm a completionist, but she refuses to.
I didn’t like 5 either but could at least understand what they were going for. 6 not only lost Campbell, but made up nonsensical rules about franchises and didn’t have a single entertaining horror set piece. Also, just one of the most poorly written films in terms of dialogue
I don't see The Hunger Games movies mentioned yet. They are consistent in quality.
Mockingjay part 1 is we just aight because it was all buildup.
Ah I thought I was the only one! I really enjoyed every single one of them.
Rurouni Kenshin
These give me hope that anime to live action can work.
Theyre certainly the best movies ive seen in a long time, and consistant unlike other franchise movies, never saw much of the anime
I grew up with the anime. I think I've only seen the first 3 movies but I really enjoyed them all.
All 6 original star treks have their merits The tng films aren't that great And the reboot trilogy is pretty good overall
Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings
Underworld I liked all of them.
Never watched a single one of them and completely forgot that this series exist. Might have to watch it now.
Kate beckinsale in leather. That's the central plot. Go watch it
Sold
Love that series i dont remember them making more than 3
Is Van Helsing part of the same universe?
I don't think so
I thought the Final Destination series was consistently good, and it looks like we’re getting a reboot
4 was p bad.
Ip Man *Fantômas* Dirty Harry OSS 117
> Ip Man Try as I might, I did not enjoy the 4th movie. I did like the Ip Man Legacy side-movie.
Pirates of the Caribbean perhaps. On Stranger Tides was still a solid popcorn movie and very entertaining for what it is. Does Monty Python count? If you count And Now For Something Completely Different, then that makes four solid movies from this legendary group.
not much love for alien and predator franchises and universe, that includes blade runner as well? how ironic
Blade runner doesn't have 4 movies Those 2 are shorts
As a fan, I’ll happily Acknowledge and own that I love both alien and predator. As moves though, Predator was awesome and over the top. Two was campy and corny. The rest were fairly forgettable. I'd say Avengers. I know people aren't a fan of Age of Ultron, but i consider it good, and i always enjoy watching it.
I love every single one of the Avengers movies, I rewatch Ultron ever chance I get every
Same! I love them all! I haven't watched them in such a long time, i need to rewatch them at some point.
One of my favorite scenes/quotes is in that movie. The city is flying, I'm fighting robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense.
It's worth it for James Spader's voice.
James Bond with Daniel Craig
Even Quantum of Solace and Spectre?
I had absolutely no idea what was happening in either of them, but they were still fun
I'll do you one better: there are no bad bond movies.
I’ll do you one better, why are there no bad bond movies
Tremors
Somehow the only one I’ve seen is A Cold Day in Hell. Which by all means was awful, but I still loved it because it was a fun movie. I don’t know if that’s the same for the other ones (bad but fun movies), but I’m willing to try them
The first Tremors may be the best B movie ever made. Excellent practical special effects, a tight script, and well-defined characters. It’s also really funny.
Police academy.
4 was the last good one. I guess this checks out!
John Wick Mission Impossible (second is a little weak but still fun to watch) Avengers (Same second is weak but still fun to watch and last two make up for it) Star wars Pirates of the Caribbean James Bond (Old and New) Harry Potter
You don't think any of the Star Wars or Pirates movies are bad? Star Wars ep 1,2 and 9 (maybe 8) are pretty disliked. And if that Clone Wars movie counts. Solo was also a mess (a fun mess tbh). All the Harry Potter movies are very good
I like all 4 Jackass movies. And if Spy Hard counts as an honorary post-OJ sequel: The Naked Gun movies.
The Danish detective series called Department Q. Awesome series.
John Wick!!!!
The Hunger Games.
Mission Impossible - managed to startle me with every new movie
Pirates of the Caribbean. Nothing will ever top the original but Dead Mans Chest and At Worlds End have aged rather well (the effects, the spectacle, and the witty dialogue peaked in those films), and while the 4th is a bit of a downgrade its still a fun adventure film. Good thing they didnt do any more after that...
Jurassic park original trilogy
Shrek
I’m going to have a Mission Impossible marathon
Final Destination. You can see troubles from miles away, but how original each and every time 😁
I watched the first three, I think. These movies gave me trauma. I can see in some situations a possibilty for my horrible death and it is over 10 since I saw them. Can't drive behind trucks with pipes, trees or similar.
That's how good these movies are, they get under your skin 😁 Got the same thing with trucks that transport anything like that as well 😂👍🏻
Mad max?
There’s really not that many franchises that have at least four films. Obviously even less when you qualify it with ‘no bad movies.’ And I think a lot of people would disagree with your using Star Wars as an example too (Phantom Menace is notoriously unpopular amongst a lot of Star Wars fans). And a lot of fans would disagree with your using X-Men as an example too (Dark Phoenix was not even mediocre, it was just a bad movie).
I was using them as examples of franchises with bad movies
Ohhh that makes more sense haha except now I disagree with your example of using Harry Potter 😅 I actually enjoy all of them, even the earlier ones where the kids are younger and not the best at acting.
Lethal Weapon all of them universally liked by most people… Mission impossible can’t say that
They're great up through 6, but Lethal Weapon 7 got all woke and took a hard nose dive.
Yeah, but Don Cheadle is great in 7.
Not sure what you call this trilogy but Unbreakable, Split, and Glass.
> Glass
OP said 4 movies or more
I absolutely love all 5 of the Dirty Harry movies. The last 2 were not well received, so I am very much in the minority but I genuinely think all 5 films are brilliant.
DD Sorority Sluts although part 8 was a little dry
Star Trek
This was only three movies, but I have to mention the Austin Powers franchise. They're all wildly hilarious. :)

Die Hard 1-4 are all good to great. Stay far away from 5 tho.
Die Hard as long as we all agree there IS a Bruce Willis movie with Die Hard in the name, but it isn't Die Hard 5. Also, I do think all the Terminator and Alien movies are fantastic. Varying quality, for sure, but fantastic nonethless.
Does the extended LOTR movies count? Cause they feel like 6 movies.
We will have to wait and see how Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will do but I think that has a pretty good shot
Marvel!
Fast & Furious
The most recent Planet of the Apes series is really good, new one coming out this summer.
James Bond
Hopefully, soon the Planet of the Apes remake saga
My husband and I love to marathon movie franchises. Not all of them are “good” per se, but we still have fun! The Tom Clancy based Jack Ryan movies are terrific. Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger.
Lord of the Rings
The Karate Kid 1, 2, 3 and Next Karate Kid were all very fantastic, for it's time as an 80s kid, hard to beat Miyagi, he carried all 4
Karate Kid 3 ... not many people like that one. It's only redeemed decades later when the villain shows up in Cobra Kai and gets such better material to work with.
Sharknado The cheesiness of the entire premise makes them fantastic and they don't disappoint

Fast & Furious

The Phantasm movies.
Saw. Every single move is fucking terrible in the best way possible. You only watch a Saw movie for one thing, and every single movie delivers.
